Excuse me if I am behind the game, I just got my invite. I had a couple of quick questions, hoping someone could help me out.
1 - I've been uploading music via my pc... left it on all night and it's only uploaded around 600 songs. Is there a LIMIT to how may you can add? I never saw that specified.
2 - When I open the Google Music app on my phone, it only shows the music on my phone... I thought I would be seeing the music in the cloud. Is there something I am not doing? Isn't that the whole purpose?
3 - I'm sure more will come...
Thanks!
Not sure of the top of my head of there's a storage limit, if there is though I'd imagine it would be quite a bit. As for the android app, when you first open it hit menu and go to settings, the first option is to select your Google account. They should all show up after that.
EDIT: I was just checking out my setting on the website and it appears there is a 20,000 song limit. Keep in mind this is beta, so there may be more eventually, or there might be subscriptions for more space.

We are talking about Google here.... Its probably a glitch that will be updated. I downloaded the app but noticed it did not take the place of the music app 1.0 already on phone, so I uninstalled it. Can't you use dropbox for what you are talking about? The size limit probably is the reason you don't. I'm learning more & more by you guys. Thanks....
I think the limit is 20k. Also in settings try and connect your music app to your account. I had to do it manually.

Interesting, I got my Music invite yesterday, downloaded and installed the app this morning and have used it, but did not get a prompt from the app (nor an option under settings) to select my google account till just now.
Looks like all of my music is starting to show up on the app now. Very odd this did not happen when I first installed the app since I had accepted the invite and already began loading music before I got the app.
Off-topic/on-topic question.
This is really not that important, but does anyone know of a way to get a LESS ugly widget to use with the Google Music app?
I hate this thing, but I love the music.
:-( <-------Me pouting.
In my home network I have 3 DLNA servers that allow streaming of all myvids/music.
When connected to wifi on my S3, if i open the Gallery app it automatically searches and parses all files on available DLNA servers.
This drains a huge amount of battery life! and it does this every time the gallery is started.
So far I have not found a way to disable this search or even to limit the servers.
I am running stock everything.
I first thought it was the "All Play" service but disabling it did not help. I know believe it may be a part of the Gallery app itself.
Any thoughts/ideas on how to disable that functionality in the gallery app?
Note- this is not the same as DLNA file sharing. disabling that only disables sharing of files from the s3 to other clients.
This annoys me as well. As much as it is kinda cool functionality to have, every time I go to show a picture of something on the phone at home, it spins up the hard disks in my 2 NAS devices for no reason. An option to turn this off would be great...
I have the same problem. My WD MyBook Live, and media players in the network show up in the gallery and slow it really down. I hope somebody has a solution to this as so far I only can stop it selecting the option "View by" "Content in device" but that can not be saved.
Here is something i have found.
If you select "View By " from the Gallery options menu then choose "Content in Device" it disables the DLNA view.
BUT
only for that instance of gallery.i.e. if gallery app is killed then you will have to choose option again.
Still you only have to do it every time you reboot your phone.
there is another thread just like this that has opped up same section slightly different request.
Ill pop a link from this thread into the other and see if we can get an answer. Have you disabled the media scan function in the wi-fi section?

there is already a thread on the Q&A section about this problem found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704575
You should post in here to collate the information and of course use the search feature next time

The thread you posted was only started yesterday. This one here has been here for a week.
Either way ill jump on the other one and get the guys to jump over and get to answer I know you can remove the image cache but I'm not sure about the continual load because even if you remove the cache it will just keep updating it.
You can also root your device and manually remove the Allshare apk's. but that removes the allshare functionality of course.
I have done this on my S3 and gallery no longer searches for DLNA servers.
I've decided to use BubbleUpnP for DLNA streaming purposes instead.
Any luck?
Just got my S iii and am having same issue. I vaguely remember it asking about dlna upon setup, but I cannot find how to disable it loading pics from my PC every time I open gallery. Battery killer! Btw, there is nothing in the other thread mentioned about this. Has anyone figured it out?

I haven't seen any comments on here in several months, has this been resolved? (Aside from getting a replacement Gallery-style app.)
I'm new to Verizon and have the S3 (Verizon model of course) and have the same problem. I turned off all DLNA settings but the Gallery app still searches. I have Plex Media Server at home (Mac version), so Gallery gets extremely sluggish when I'm home and have WiFi turned on. It's sluggish to the point that I have to slowly enter Task Manager to exit it; no sense even trying to get the "Content in Device" option set because it never sticks and takes almost forever to get to because of the sluggishness.
I also went to the other forum link posted above, but that seems to be talking about WiFi always scanning, not this Gallery/DLNA issue, unless I'm missing something...?

on my rooted note 2 I used rom toolbox to permanently remove anything 'allshare' related, as I don't use that stuff. It resolved my issue with gallery slowing. I have plex installed, but it is not sharing photos.
Deleted.
I think I managed to solve this on my device.
I went into the "more settings" under wireless and network. And into "Allshare cast" when I turned this off my gallery suddenly started working again.
*edit*
Nevermind, it was just for a few minutes. The app started to slow down after I closed and opened it again.

Guys, this is an old post, but the same keeps happening with newer models, and i didn't want to use a third party app. I downloaded an app called DisableService (needs root) and disabled the service SystemService inside NearbyService. The nearby devices list has disappeared from the gallery's menu and the gallery starts up a lot faster. I have yet to try if the gallery will still spin up my nas but i'm very optimistic.

So I wanted to download this app to my nexus 7 so I could watch some movies. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hd.peliculashd
(app). So i downloaded it but to watch a movie it makes you download some app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLmhkLmZhc3R2aWRlb3BsYXllciJd. So i downloaded it however my av says its intrusive adware. I went and opened up the movie app and it now worked and it works good and has a lot of new movies for free. But as soon as i uninstall the player it wants me to redownload it. My question is, is it a big deal to have the app. Does it do anything at all? Can it in anyway damage my device?
Read the reviews. No bueno.
The apps permissions don't give it the ability to do much of anything other than connect to the internet and start when your phone turns on. All it probably does is stick ads in your notification bar, and android has an option to prevent it from doing that. There's (probably) nothing it can do to your phone.
The SG4 is my second smartphone - first was the Droid Charge, which nearly drove me crazy but I learned a lot.
I am aware of the possibility of rooting my phone, but having never done it.....I'm hoping to fine ways to make it work for me unless and until I find someone to root it with me - and teach me.
So, my biggest irritant is the app that says Play Music, and has an icon of a pair of yellow headphones, is playing music most of the time. I don't hear it unless I turn the media volume up pretty high - but ??? When I open it, it is called "Listen Now" and has images of the music that I had on my external SD card from the Droid Charge. The options seem to be to play my own music or all music. This is a Google app called Google Play Music. It is running all the time and when I force turn it off, it turns back on.
Story Album is also running along with an Amazon process (not the shopping cart - I think more apps)
Samsung Watch and Samsung Link are also running all the time.
I know about task killers but unless there are new and better ones (recommendations please), they turn most things back on pretty quickly and don't really accomplish very much.
BTW, Verizon, without my knowledge, switched my SD card from my Droid to the SG4. Is that ok? It seems to be working.
So I guess I'm asking for suggestions as to how to turn at least some of these apps off and avoid having to root, if possible.
Thanks for reading this and for any suggestions/recommendations.
Louise
You cant help yourself until u root.
To stop stock apps or google service, you have to either freez them or can also grinify them.but you hav to root. For now disabled the internet when u don't need it,it helps some apps stop working in background.Auto sync off also can help you a bit.but root must.

My daughter in very tech savy and at the same time is starting to take the wrong path as she hits her teen years. I have installed screentime and it let's me remotely view what she view, installs and things like that. But she is smart and figured out a way around that. And she has what seems like to me some google apps that hide messages and IMG in PDF and KLM using email, maps and other apps. I have taken her phone from her but I for the life of me can figure this out. Its like as soon as she logs into an account in android settings it sets it up. And her nexus 5 always has an update ready for download .. While she is still on 4.4 she has always refused to upgrade to 5.1. Anyone know of any apps like this?
