[Q] i9305 backup and restore to another i9305 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a scan through the specifics on Backup, but I would like to ask the question on the best way to backup my i9305 and restore to another i9305.
I am obtaining a replacement and would like to just duplicate my exact settings look and feel and ALL apps installed without messing about with different programs if I can.
Not all my apps are from the Play Store, some are separate APK file installation which I would like to be included in the restore.
I have paid for the My Backup Pro program, would that do everything I require??.
My device is not rooted as I don't want to root until Three-UK role out the 4g.
Appreciate any feedback. AJW

Perhaps a dumb question

I did a mild search and didn't find anything, so sorry if this is a repost.
I want to try new roms, but don't want to go through the headache of redownloading all the apps that I have, is there an easy way to back up my existing apps so I can flash a new rom and just "reload" my old apps?
Does Titanium backup do this? (i've never really used it)
Yes. Use titanium. But use it only to restore apps, never system settings

You can also use MyBackup Root (for both apps, data). The interface is very simplistic and straight to the point, if you don't want all the stuff packed into Titanium.
No dumb questions. Most roms will just auto restore your apps when you sign in with your gmail acct, but some do have the feature disabled so then I would recommend titanium backup. If your new to the root game I would definitely recommend the paid versions of root explorer, titanium backup, and ROM manager at the very least. With the paid version of titanium you can also run the market doctor to restore the market links for your apps if for some reason they do not show up I'm the market after you restore them. Good luck!
Awesome, thanks guys! I appreciate it.

Backup and restore the most comfortable way

Hello,
I am trying some ROMs here to have the best comparison and best choice exactly for me and to fit my needs and expectations ...
I stay on some ROMs for a while and install some of the applications. My question is now hot to make backups and restores the best wa possibles?
I have used programs like Titanium backup etc but I always have to install all programs again from Google Play and the restoring is very difficult when updating rom is needed very often and sometimes with full wipe.
So my question is how to do all this most comfortable, quick and best way possible step by step? I think man users appreciate this advices
Thank you.
The Application Backup tool in Astro File Manager has always been my method of choice. It backs up all the APKs to your sdcard so no more downloading from Google Play every time.

Nandroid and TB pro are what most use as as backup and restore .
TB restores all apps that you backup and you would only use Google Play afterwards to update apps that have been updated since your TB backup .
CWM Nandroid + TB over 500 roms tested and restored no problems for me .

Titanium just stucks on first restoring application on 0% and nothing is really restored when I tried only install from play and after I can restore app data not app+data together ... :-(
First run of TB on a new rom .
Open TB let it find and accept root .
Close TB reboot phone then use TB as normal .
Now 501 TB restores .

Retrieving previously purchased applications
Your application purchases are tied to your Google Account and can be installed an unlimited amount of times on any device. So, for example, if you remove 'My Favorite Game' to save memory, you can reinstall it at a later date with no charge by simply visiting My Apps. Note: free applications are not saved to My Apps after you remove them.
If you are being asked to purchase an application you have already purchased on Google Play on an existing or previous device, you might be using a different account than the one you were using at the time you made your purchase. Because the application is associated with a different Google Account, you are being charged to purchase it again. Additionally, if you are missing certain apps (free or paid), they might be registered under a different Google account. Fortunately, you can recover access to these apps by simply switching the account you’re currently signed into on Google Play.
The process to switch your account is dependant on the version of the Google Play Store app you’re currently using. You can find out which version of the Google Play Store app you’re using by going to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All, and selecting Play Store. The version is listed under the Play Store title. (On Android 2.1 or lower, you might need to select Menu > Filter > All to find the listing for the Google Play Store app)

If you paid for it run batch and back up all apps . On your new phone run the batch with restore apps plus data make sure you don't restore system or you will run into problems.

Trouble of transfer backups

Hey guys, I just got my S3 yesterday. I encountered some problems and I think should be no one met this problem, hope some of you can help me.
Previously I was using SGS, and I rooted and flashed a custom rom which is this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442169&highlight=doc+s+rom
So, I did Titanium Backup and GO backup (for spare) on SGS. On S3, I rooted it for installing Titanium Backup, I copied the Titanium Backup files and move it all into my S3 through PC.
Both devices running on same android version 4.0.4, SGS is on custom rom but S3 is still on stock rom. At first I think my files on SGS can be transfer and backup on S3, but eventually I did all the backups, but all the apps (only user apps) are still cannot open, such as LINE, Talkbox, Whatsapp and etc. Open the app and it will close it automatically.
And also, some of the apps such as LINE needs to register with the phone number. Previously I registered on SGS, now my number transfer to S3 and LINE cannot be open in SGS anymore. When I backup in S3 and it ask me to register with phone number, and I did, but it became a new app, no chat history, no added friends. Is it because I register on S3 and so my SGS does not recognize the LINE app?
What I concerned about is the chat history, I need it so much. Everytime I flashed a new custom rom, I did the backups on SGS, from GB 2.3.3 until ICS 4.0.4, and the backups are works. But this time, I really cannot figure out what problem I am having now.
I still using the same number, from a normal SIM to micro SIM,
1. Is it because does not working to transfer file from different devices?
2. Is it because my number use on a new device, and all the previous data cannot be transfer?
Any kind soul please give me some guidance?
I really NEED to transfer the old chat history into my S3, I don't want to lose it because it is my memories.
generally its not advisable to restore a backup of one device to another device, but as you said its working for you earlier. try restoring the apps alone in TB and later restore the data of the specific apps you need.

Thanks for reply. Yes is working only in SGS.I tried restoring the app alone in TB and restore the data of the specific app in S3, and is still not working. It still close automatically.
Does anyone knows how to restore a backup from one device to another device?
Or maybe I transfer back my number to my SGS, and everything will be same as before?

[Q] My Files backup with Titanium Backup Pro

Hello new to this community and kind of new to rooting and modding (smartphones at least). I managed to get SU access to my S4 although I still have the factory ME7 bootloader and kernel. Whether or not I'll get heavy on root type modding on my phone remains to be seen but I'd like to take advantage of Titanium Backup features since I paid for the pro version. the thing I'm mostly concerned with is setting up a backup for specific file folders to my Google Drive - can anyone give me a little walkthrough, or at least point me in the right direction? Any other useful TB tips would also be nice as I like to know all my stuff has a safe backup, and although all the important stuff is stored on a 32gb SD card I'm led to believe TB has a lot more to offer than just backing up pictures and docs. Thanks!
