Fast dormancy - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anybody having wakelocks for fast_dormancy? I've read about fast dormancy, but I don't know how to disable it, or if disabling will improve battery life. Ideas? Also, I'm also seeing one for mdm_hsic_pm0. I don't know anything about what this one is. Help with both is appreciated. I'm running imnuts' tweaked Rom and pbj kernel.

Last night I dropped 20% to mdm_hsic_pm0 tons of wakeups that shouldn't have been happening... Not sure why...

I feel your pain. This thread is primarily looking for help disabling fast_dormancy, but I want to know about mdm_hsic_pm0, too. They both show up in better battery stats and seem to be related.

I see fast dormancy on mine too.
I have searched but can’t find the answer............... does Verizon even support fast dormancy?
From what I read it sounds like it has its purpose, but if not supported it’s just waking up my phone for no reason. A LOT too.
Battery seems fine (6+hr screen on), but if it can get even better........ oh man that would be tits.
I did find a fast dormancy toggle developed for the Slll that supposedly works on the Note2, but i have not tried it until I can find out if it will benifit me.
The big question is does Verizon support fast dormancy in the US? Answer that and we will know the answer to if we need to stop it or not.

Okay so I just thought I would bump this one up.
I downloaded gokhanmoral's toggle and installed it. It did turn off fast dormancy. I checked data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/nwk_info.db and before toggle it was on and off after I toggled the app. My phone is deep sleeping better now and there is no fast dormancy wake at all.
However....
wakelock mdm_hsic_pm0 is still waking my device a Lot! 1518 times in 7hr 42m for 43m. I don't notice any large battery drain per say but that can't be good no?
I am trying to find out what this wake is actually for but I am thinking it is part of the fast dormancy even tho I don't have that particular wake any more.
Can anyone share some knowledge on what this is and why it's waking my device like it is?

App market

Hi guys i found app juice defender is that good for increase battery life? Im using cyanogen. Mod 7 dunno if look ok with this app any suggestion?
Sent from my SAMSUNG S II SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
the juice defender debate goes on. some people report good battery life while others dont. I personally dont think its worth it but you can give it a try. maybe you will like it.
In many cases, battery savers use more battery than they save.
All this app does is turn off the data/cellular network when in lock mode. So when you wake your phone, you get your data back. Some people report missed calls and/or texts because of this. For someone like me who looks at the phone constantly, it would probably drain the battery more because of the on and off of the data/cellular network. It also annoys me that when I'm ready to check an email or something, the data is not readily available because of this feature.
when i was testing JD, i was constantly missing emails, texts and gtalk messages because my data was turned off. I didnt think it was worth it.

Yep I had this happen, and there was a delay because of it so it was very annoying.. I noticed way more battery life from a custom kernel than I ever did with juice defender.right now using entropy kernel with serendipity rom, gave me a good couple hours extra battery with normal usage.

Battery life, tried everything [screenshots included]

Alright so, i grew tired of this, i literally tried everything, changed kernal used [Phenomenal Extreme, Siyah undervolted and battery friendly governer and i/o.. other kernals also]
Fast democracy disabled, GPS disabled, Wifi disabled, 2G Network, Auto brightness, disabled heptick feedback... other things i cant remember
Tried different ROMS with different base(AOKP, Samsung based)
Undervolting and underclocking, also tried different modems.
And still my battery can't last 24 Hours with soft use, 2 - 3 maximum display time, also i guess deep sleep is working perfectly with SOME wakelocks, when the mobile is on 100% battery, it remains that for 6 - 7 hours if it went to deep sleep, the problem is when it drop below 100% it starts to drop fast, today i went out to my college with 84% went back after 6 hours with 66% left, with really soft use, just 10 min gaming and 2 phone calls, thats a huge drain for a deep sleep.
Ill leave you with the screen shots.
Your battery usage looks normal, you just seem to be expecting too much.

Battery life is normal
Your battery life is perfectly normal buddy!
Other battery saving tips:
Lower your brightness
Turn off WiFi as well as Bluetooth, and GPS
open up your dialer and input this *#9900# and then disable fast dormancy (Big battery boost!, also fast dormancy is useless so dont worry)
---Don´t forget to hit the thanks button if this helped you
Turn off automatic brightness. The light sensor will be on all the time - draining battery - set your brightness manually. Try using Abyss Kernel. Am

This is not always true. It all depends if your network supports fast dormancy.
In my case, fast dormancy enabled enhances my battery life very much because my network supports it.
To check if your network supports fast dormancy do the following:
dial *#0011#
look at your RRC STATE
If your rrc state reaches IDLE after a few seconds then your network supports fast dormancy.
In that case fast dormancy should be enabled in order to benefit from it and help you save more battery.
I hope this helps.

Gaming eats a lot of battery. So dont expect great battery life if you game a lot.

Thanks for your replies, i enabled fast dormancy its idle after a minute or so, if you think its normal, then i feel relieved now lol, thanks again!

Help me identify battery drain

Hi,
It's been awhile and I've tried most things and I'm still getting fairly big battery drain compared to others here on the forum
I was wondering if you are able to help me identify what is causing my huge battery drain? (anywhere from 2%/hr to 8%/hr)
I have here the betterbatterystats dump file. When looking through it I dont' see any problems but yeah I'm getting big drains.
I've tried disabling fast dormancy to no effect. Tried turning off wifi when not needed still nothing. I can only think it's of the widgets I have? Beautifulwidget, APW Widget and agenda plus widget.
have tired powersaving mode on and off, brightness set to auto. NFC disabled.
I can't seem to identify what's causing battery drain. I even bought a new battery (it's a spare) and yeah same thing.
Anyway here's the dump file. oh yeah I'm using Omega v35.
I noticed there's also another thread on this. Maybe me and him have same problems? lol
bugger dammit!!
Might be better to add to that post instead of making a new one. Work together?

Android OS using up too much battery.

Is there anyway to reduce the amount of battery the Android OS uses? It is currently using 61% of my battery, which is quite a bit much. On my previous phone, the Android OS would only use about 10%. Are there any solutions to fix this? On my other phone I shut off the "Back Up My Data" setting and it solved it, but on this phone, it doesn't help. Any help is much appreciated
Have you tried the fast dormancy disable app in the apps section?
I don't even know what that is Lol Is that pre-installed on the phone?
Look in themes and apps in these forums there's a thread. Install the app disable fast dormancy
Isn't there a way to naturally stop it? I mean, the Androis OS shouldn't be using that much battery. it must be something in the setting, right?

It's a BUG.
This fixes it for most people.
Android OS has always been/will be high on this phone with ICS. It's really old news.

This worked well and lowered my OS from the 70% range to 40%-50% range. Still sucks to have it so high.

my wife's is around 30% and her standby time is obnoxiously good. 48+ hrs between charges
There were some funky reporting bugs in ICS on the SGS2... they didn't really hurt battery life though, there. Are you seeing fairly decent life, or not? Can you, for instance, get 18 hours off charger with 3 hours combined screen on/calls? If so it's probably just reporting errors.
I was seeing high numbers like that on stock ICS on the LGOG, but was also getting zero deep sleep. I just went to JB to fix both that bug and fast dormancy problems... not sure if those 2 were related or not, but got them both gone.

I'm not seeing bad battery life. The phone will go 20-30 hours on the battery. I just know that the OS isn't supposed to be that high on the battery usage, so I was just wondering if maybe I'm not getting the battery life I could be getting. Maybe it is just a reporting bug.
That is a well known reporting error with ICS. Android OS isn't really using that percentage of battery.

Today I woke up and the battery was at 26% after unplugging it at around 11:30 pm. I usually wake up with around 93%. The Android OS had used up 91% of the battery for whatever reason -.- I finally installed that fast dormancy thing. Hopefully it helps.
When the phone has higher than normal OS %, it's because of wakelocks that is preventing your phone from going into Deep Sleep State (CPU). Install Better Battery Stats to see if what is keeping your phone away under Partial wakelocks and/or Kernel wakelocks and also what other alarms might be affecting your phone. You can also use the same app to see how much time your phone is at each CPU State.
Yeah. If your phone is draining by 70% over night that's a bigger problem than just Android OS

When I was on stock 4.1, I was using around 15-20% overnight then I flashed CM stable 10, happily saw the overnight usage drop to 3-6%, then I flashed to CM 10.1 M and now losing 11-16% overnight. Running "deep sleep better battery pro" in slumber mode with little success. Have had issues with that but that's another story. Still in experimentation mode. Starting to use "best battery stats" in hopes of getting more info.

if you install snowjb it already comes with fast dormancy fix. on that rom, android system doesnt use much battery at all. here's a pic to show what i mean.
I think what we are seeing is that kernel wakelocks -- which can be caused by apps -- get lumped in under Android OS.
For example, I was seeing about 9% sns_async_ev or something wakelocks that went away when I froze Smart Wifi Toggler. This made no sense to me but it turns out they were caused by the app accessing the barometer, and turning that feature off virtually made them go away. Overall this was just a small amount of time awake, but all of these add up in that category. It would have been nice to see that under the app itself but there's no way to differentiate that.

JuiceDefender, GreenPower, or Snapdragon BatteryGuru?

I'm looking to squeeze a little extra battery life out of my DNA. I've used JuiceDefender in the past, but it looks like it hasn't been updated in forever. I've never used GreenPower, but it looks like it gets decent reviews. I think I tried BatteryGuru when it first came out (maybe a year ago?) and wasn't too impressed. Does anyone use any of these and get good results?
On the newest stock rom, under power settings, there is a toggle for "Sleep mode". It says it turns off data "during long periods of inactivity". Has anyone noticed a difference with this on or off?
I already do the standard battery saving stuff (turn brightness down, turn off Wi-Fi/bluetooth when not in use, etc.). Doors anyone have any other suggestions to get longer battery life? Thanks!

Not sure if this will help, but I just started using a combination of greenify and wakelock detector today in an attempt to prolong battery life. I know these both operate completely different than the apps you asked about... I've noticed that most apps that "actively manage" settings to control battery usage end up burning quite a bit of juice themselves. Plus, it seems like you're already managing the setting those apps attempt to. Thought I'd stick to managing everything manually with a little help/info through greenify and wakelock d. I've also read good reviews on Gsam (similar to wakelock d). I'll let you know how well the combo works.
