SD card not reading after flashing - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed my friends s3 to vanilla rootbox and after that his 64gb sandisk card was not reading in the phone. Not even in many laptops.I finally got it detected in an xp system.I then used easus partiton wizard to format the card which had most partition as exfat. Now i have a totally unpartitioned card.I wanna know how to and to which filesystem to format so i can use with the new rom.

[Q] My Xperia Neo is not detecting a 32GB SD card after I partition it for Link2SD

Dear Friends,
I currently have a 16GB memory card partitioned with a 2GB ext4 partition which is used by Link2SD. A couple of days ago I bought a SandDisk 32GB Class 4 memory card and partitioned it using MiniTool on Win 7 and created a 2 GB ext4 and the rest was FAT32.
I did it while the card was inserted into my Neo. Now, after reboot or so, the phone doesn't recognize the card.
What can be the reason behind this and could you provide any solution on this?
I would be very thankful to you. Thanks.
Try formatting using cwm recovery...
I formatted and partitioned my 32GB SD card several times, using MiniTool, with SD in phone. Never had any problems.
AFAIK both partitions should be primary. First FAT32, and second ext.

You would need a memory card reader for this. Put the memory card into card reader and then insert it into your pc. And format your memory card with allocation unit size as default. But your memory card will still remain partitioned.

no need not use a chip reader, i several time created 2nd partition on my 16GB micro SD SD card by connecting my phone into the PC. If you use "USB connectivity" as "Mass storage mode" we can mount SD into the PC and create another partition using minitool.
Try to create both partition FAT.

Thanks keekoo, the only thing that I may have missed would be that I did not make the ext partition primary. I am already partitioning and formatting the SD card as I type this with your advice. Hope it works.

THANKYOU SOO MUCH. This solution helped me get my xperia play's 16GB SD card mounting correctly. I had created the 2nd partition as logical instead of primary and I was wondering why it wasn't doing anything when putting it in my xperia.
I have been following several guides on how to partition my sd-card but everytime I end up with the phone looping at boot.
I have a xperia v with a 32 gb sd card. the card works but when I partition it to 2 new partitions the phone wont boot.
All help are welcome.

yes, when you using minitool partition wizard to create a new partition and dont forget to mark it as primary. then it can be recognized by your phone.

Guys I am on omega ROM v31.
I flashed previous to this codec ROM.
Now I see AOSP browser Cwm and Wallpapers which I got when I flashed codec ROM as write
Protected in internal SD card.
I am unable to format them.
In Windows as well as Linux it says write protected so unable to format.
Please please help me friends.
I tried everything but my internal SD just refuses to format.
And same error with external SD card.
hi
have you tried to delete them via root explorer ?
*don't forget to set read\write permission
Tried but it says sd card doent allow to change permissions...
Root the phone boot to recovery mounts and storage format cache system data and preload .
#Flash stock rom .
Or use one of the many wipe tools posted .
jje
I am already rooted and I am on codec jb rom right now...
Just a query..
Can I use mobile Odin or do I have to do it by PC method...
I actually didn't understand what you meant by wipe tools and how to use them...
great...Thanks...
But how do I format extSdcard...
That solved internal sd issue.
But external sd card still says unable to format.
Write protected...

Try formatting it with MiniTool Partition Wizard Home edition... please backup the data first and PLEASE PAY ATTENTION which disk you'll be formatting... If you choose the wrong directory, your PC harddisk will be formatted instead of your extSdCard...

How to reformat SD card from exFAT

Since exFAT is not supported by AOKP roms and I plan to use one, I have to reformat my sd card. The thing is I don't know how and I cant even find out how to do it.
I've tried reformating in CWM, in Android itself and in Windows (by plugging the phone). There is no option of changing the partition format.
The only way possible is plugging the SDcard directly to the computer? I dont have any adapter so I cant really do it wihout buying one
I use either EaseUS Partition Manager or MiniTool Partition Wizard...google them, you can reformat any SD card to pretty much any format
Rumble
Format it from within the phone.. Go to settings >storage.. It will format it in fat32
sent from here, there, somewhere!!
Oh, I did format it from within the phone earlier, just like you said. It is in fat32 then I guess, will install an aosp rom later and check it (im currently on sammy based)
thanks guys
Well If it is different can't you just install the new rom then format the card within the new rom??
Also i am sure the GS3 formats the card to exfat and not FAT32 as i thought we didn't have the 4gb limitations??

[Q] Issues with micro sd card after rooting

Recently I decided to root and install LiquidSmooth on my Samsung Galaxy S3 9305T for the first time. It's great and I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner. Although since rooting I've developed an issue with my Sandisk 64GB micro sd card not mounting and appearing as Unallocated in Windows Disk Management. I've tried a few things recommended on here including:
SDFormatter as per advice in this thread which didn't work as my SD card wouldn't detect within the program.
Mini tool partition wizard following this method it seemed to format ok but once I put the sd card in the phone it would bring up an error of 'sd card blank or has unsupported filesystem after partition'. Once I loaded the card back into the computer, the partition would appear as Unallocated under disk management to which I'd try format it again to no luck.
Mounting and formatting the drive in ubuntu following this method. The drive mounted however ubuntu was unable to format it
Mounting and formatting the drive in CWM. The card was unable to be mounted within CWM
Tried formatting the card in a camera at home to no luck
I'm leaning towards the card being dead but before I go out and buy a new one I just wanted to check whether anyone had any advice on if there was anything I may have missed?
Thanks

Sorry should have mentioned that 1GB was allocated to EXT4 and the rest FAT32.
You are in the wrong forum .
