Am I correct in thinking that you are just using prepaid minutes if you travel oversees?
Yup. I've used local prepaid sims with data service in macau and singapore without any issues and when I get home back onto vzw.

where did you bought it? in the tmobile?
I live and work in Germany, and the phone has worked perfectly here as well as every other country I've driven/flown into so far. The GSM technology that's used here is the same technology that's used in the states. Just waiting for 4G!
Stock vibrant on ji5 here and it didn't work well in japan when I was there. Didn't pick up any of the carriers and gps didn't work at all. Gps works here though

is it in japan only that's not working? i'll be going in the philippines and i'll be using a sim card there.
No SIM, Wifi calling, possible? I pulled the sim card out of my unlocked, rooted vibrant...fired up the stock WiFi calling. It responded with invalid SIM...what does T-Mobile have to do with my wireless network? Do we have to unlock the app too?

You have to have your sim card in for it work. Did you try it with the sim card in??

Well it said something about using minutes...so I thought what be the point...when I could just use the phone anyways...could someone give me an example where I'd be where I'd have WiFi and no cell coverage?

If you're in a basement or solid building where signal can't penetrate, use wifi to make calls instead. Still uses your minutes, you just get a consistently strong signal instead of dropping the call

Gotchya...thanks

Wifi calling uses the account information on your SIM card to call people. If you have no SIM card, then you have no account with T-Mobile, making their app useless.
Can't connect to mobile network...any of youse guys in beantown lose network? Seemed like mine just crapped out.

Live in Phoenix and since I have changed to T-Mobile from AT&T on unlocked phone. Have 4.1.2 on root. Phone is always in roam mode were on AT&T the problem was not there. Any ideas if I need to change a setting or just poor service?

This is a serious questIon...I'm a truck driver and traveled all 48states with this phone and I have never seen 3g service...2g isn't fast enough on tmobile between cities to listen to Google radio unfortunately

I have T-Mobile pre paid in Virginia. The first 500 mg are 4g. Then it continues after the 500 to say 4g but when I checked an app it said "T-Mobile 2g". They really do **** us
