I am trying to Sideload my ROM file, since I have accidently wiped everything...
Whenever I am typing ADB Sideload ROM.zip I get a list of adb commands (like it is not recognizing the Sideload state).
What can I do ???
Thanks,
D.
Adb push
You can push the file to the sd
Same thing happened to me with the dna, sideload did not work.
Adb push did.
After you push the file to the internal sd memory, flash in recovery as normal.

Thanks, but push did not work.
I kept getting "error:closed" msgs.
I tried pushing several times, with no luck.
Can you post the whole process please ?

I think you have to be in recovery with storage mounted

Any one out there that can help me understand the last part of Adb.
lol.
I learned how to use Odin and superoneclick.
Now I am on Adb.
I read all I can on Team Whiskeys and XDA website and other googled websites. I installed everything and did the My computer/system properties/advance/Enviroment Variables/Path entries.
I start ADB and then I do in command prompt "adb devices" and whoopie I see my phone.
NOW WHAT?
No body on the instructions or website that I have read goes past that.
How do I push down a Rom to overwrite the system with the new Rom I want to try?
Hope someone out in the Forum has really done this before and will post how they do it.
Need to find someone smart enough to finish the instructions.
Thanks,
CatfishKnight
with adb you can copy files to your sd card or system without ever having to mount your sd card to your phone. that's the main thing I use it for
for instance, I have a rom named Trigger_281.zip on my desktop, to push it I would do
Code:
adb push Trigger_281.zip /sdcard/Trigger_281.zip
you can also pull files by using "adb pull <location of file on phone>"
and so on.
Furthermore if you ever need shell access you can do "adb shell" and run unix commands from console instead of on the phone

Thanks for showing me how to push to my phone. Now do I install it. In recovery mode as a zip? I thought adv installed it and I just rebooted and it was installed.

It just moves the file to the phone. You have to flash the file yourself if it is a flashable.
You can push a .jpg file if you want, it doesn't matter, it only moves it.
And I think you're getting confused with the 'adb install' command. You can install NON-system APKs by doing that.
Code:
adb install someprogram.apk

I guess I was confused on what ADB could do.
I thought it could push down a Rom and install it onto the phone.
Then I would disconnect it and reboot the phone and I would have the newer rom installed.
I didn't know that it only pushed the ROM onto the sdcard and then I would install the zip from the phone itself.
Finally I got an answer to my question.
LOL.
I have tried on the team whiskey site to and no one answered it. Also all the stuff I read on it really didn't tell me that either.
I really appreciate your answer in helping me understand it.
I am also using Trigger 2.8 like you. But you said you had Trigger2.8.1 saved??
I have only seen Trigger 2.8 today.

Duhhh... I missed that... LOL. I am brain fried!!! I have installed Odin, SuperOneClick, and ADM. I have be learning all three but was having trouble with understanding what ADB could do. Been reading lots and lots about it all day. Whew. I am tired. Ever instruction got down to connecting and seeing your phone and then it would end there. Finally I got an answer from Birgertime. Thanks.
I have 4 different roms saved to my phone to switch between if I want too. But I love Trigger 2.8 with Overclock v2. Also I am seeing 9 sats out of 11 on my gps. With Overclock v2 and using CPUBoostPro I am right at 2000 with Quadrant.

Clearify this for me.
Can you get into hboot at all? If you have adb and fastboot already installed and configured on your computer you should be able to do: adb shell reboot bootloader.
What does it say at top? Unlocked or Relocked? If relocked then proceed.
Do you have a PH85IMG.zip file on the root of the external sdcard?

You cannot push a file to the sdcard via fastboot. It must be there already when the hboot is activated so that it can be detected and prompt you to update.
There is a version however I could never get it to install. It always gives me an error.
Difference between deodex and odex is simply the way that the files are compiled. For example the odex version you will see files such as Browser.apk, Browser.odex, Calculator.apk, Calculator.odex, Calendar.apk, Calendar.odex, etc. The de-odexed is simply the *.odex files already compiled with the .apk files. So there will not be a Browser.odex, Calculator.odex, etc. Is there a difference performance wise? None that I've noticed personally. However it does make it easier to theme when there isn't a .odex file involved and it's also a lot easier to manage.
Back on topic... do you have another sdcard to try? Perhaps the one that you are using is corrupted somehow? Remember to properly unmount the device before you unplug it.
i do have another sd card (in my hd2) with ext 2 pert'. i will give it a try later on.
but the strange thing is that on this phone i didnt put any sd card, i only use the internal card.
another thing, i cant boot into the hboot if i turn of my phone, only after i pull the battery out.

Here is a complete guide for anyone interested in rooting the HTC Droid DNA. The insecure boot image, TWRP recovery, CWM recovery and SuperSU files used in this guide are not my own developments, and their developers have been credited in the end of this post.
I am only writing this as a newbie-friendly guide for everyone, and am providing my own SuperSU, su and busybox installer zip file that includes everything you need for full root.
Unlock the bootloader of your device by visiting the HTC bootloader unlock page. Warning: This will wipe your data.
UPDATE: Thanks to Verizon, the official bootloader unlocking method mentioned above no longer works. Please refer to this method for unlocking the bootloader.
Download ClockworkMod or TWRP recovery for the device and rename it to recovery.img (or keep the existing name and change recovery.img in the command below to that name).
Download the SuperSU and busybox package and put it on your SD card.
Put your phone into bootloader mode and connect it to your PC via USB.
On your computer, make sure you are in the folder where you downloaded the recovery file and use this command to flash the recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Finally, reboot your device into recovery, flash the SuperSU and busybox package and reboot your device.
You should now have root access.
Credits:
jcase for unlocking the bootloader after Verizon decided to lock it.
dsb9938 for sharing the CWM port and correcting me regarding my previously posted and now removed second method involving his insecure boot image
Dees_Troy for TWRP recovery.
utkanos for CWM port.
Chainfire for developing SuperSU
I have tried to credit everyone involved but if I have missed out on anyone, please do let me know.
thanks for the guide!
just one question though. when you say "Download the SuperSU and busybox package and put it on your SD card.", what do you mean exactly by SD card? doesn't the DNA not have a SD card? sorry if this is a dumb question. i've never rooted a phone before :/

This will not work. You cannot write to /system except in recovery.
This is why I did not publish my initial root method. Using a package and flashing in recovery is the only way to get files on /system without some really gnarly stuff.

Thanks for your response. =)
Based on my understanding (and my experience with Nexus devices), once you boot using an insecure boot image, you have full root access in ADB since it is running adbd as root on the device. You can then successfully write to the /system partition and the changes persist after reboot. While I can confirm that the above will work on any Nexus device as well as any similar device with an unlocked bootloader and fastboot access, I am not 100% sure if that's how it works on HTC devices that have the S-ON flag. Are you referring to S-ON devices in particular here?

Normally it does work that way. And I was very disappointed that it did not on this phone, as I made the kernel just for that reason.
I think there was an error in the coding where it tells unlock which partitions to remove write protection from. That, or they just wanna make our lives hard for some reason.
Either way, you cannot write to /system while the phone is booted normally without S-Off. Even as root.

In command prompt, use the "cd" command. The easiest way to do this is to make a folder at the root of your hard drive (C:\) and place all files you need to flash in here e.g. "C:\android\" Then in command prompt, type in "cd .." and press enter until it displays "C:\". Then type (if you use the same name as the example) "cd android" and it will enter the folder "C:\android\" where you placed the files. Now you can continue with the rest of the guide.

CWR had an option to mount the sd card under mounts and storage. I say had because that was on my dinc2. I'm not rooted on my DNA so I don't have a custom recovery to check for you but this is how I did it in the past.

Not to fret, ran into this problem last night. Both of our recoveries allow for adb sideload but ithasn't worked for me (maybe it will for you)
If it doesn't work, you can drop whatever ROM you want into your ADB folder. To make things simple, just change the name of the ROM to DNA. Go into your recovery and then cd to your adb tools from a command window. type in adb push dna.zip /sdcard/ and it'll move it to your internal storage. It takes awhile so be patient :good:

No problem, we all have to start somewhere. I'll give a bit of clarification.
Fastboot is a way of accessing the Android system from the bootloader, such as flashing system and boot.img's or recovery files, meaning you can't be booted into the system when you want to use Fastboot.
ADB is the android debugging bridge and can be used at just about any time your phone is booted. For the average user, it's mainly a tool to push and pull files. So, in this case since you need to push the ROM to your phone.
I'm not sure if this can be done from the bootloader since it's going to your internal storage, so you need to boot into your recovery. Once there, you don't need to do anything. just make sure that the .zip is in your ADB directory. Open up a command prompt, cd to your adb tools, then use adb push insertfilename.zip (Like I said, rename it to dna to make it easy) so the command looks like adb push dna.zip /sdcard/ This takes awhile depending on the file size (UKB took about 5 minutes, I think. Maybe longer.) so just be patient. If it gives you any type of error, just try again. Hope this helps
So I know realize i shouldn't have attempted rooting or flashing but thats all hindsight. I'm before even a noob but hoping you guys can help me out.
Currently have a m8 att that I think is savable but I cannot figure out what to do next. I never made a backup and I'm stuck without a rom installed. I believe it is rooted and I do have twrp installed but am failing when trying to flash a rom. I'm willing to pay somebody to help me if they are willing to walk me through fixing it. Any help or direction is appreciated. I have been reading different threads but honestly I'm just getting more confused.
Thanks in advance.

Yes I can boot onto recovery and adb does see it. Can I just copy a rom to sd card and install from there or does it have to be pushed? I have copied them to sd card and tried but it keeps failing to install.

Yes you could give that a shot but that's odd that they won't install from sd card. Have you tried more than one? Did you flash a GPE rom? May need to look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721435

Make sure the MD5 checksum of the ROM .zip you downloaded matches the file on your SD card.
Also, wasn't there an issue with a certain version of TWRP not flashing from an external SD card and the fix was just flashing an updated version? So also make sure you have the right version of TWRP on the device.

Copy a working rom to where your adb and fastboot are located connect phone via twrp run this command
adb push nameofrom.zip /sdcard/. exactly as shown here change nameofrom.zip to the name of the rom your trying to flash...this will put a rom on your internal storage and it then can be flashed via twrp
