Just wondering if anyone has tried rooting their Canadian Notes. I'd try it on one of the Notes at my store if I could.
Methods that might work:
S2 Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414&highlight=unroot
This is supposed to work with all Samsung devices
Super One Click 2.3.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
There are a couple other Skyrocket methods that could be attempted too. But I don't see why these 2 methods wouldn't work. If someone could try them out and report back, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.
Can't comment on the first method since I don't feel like patching in sketchy kernels, but Super One Click is a big pile of fail on this one, as is the zergrush exploit in general. Both just crash out and fail to get permissions.

Hmm... It probably won't be any different for the AT&T version. I'll give every method a shot though.
I'm going to wait to see if someone will release a kernel that already has root more than likely.

Should work with this version since this phone is just a big Skyrocket.

That's what I was thinking.. same chip..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
I am using a Korean note which is the exact version as the AT&T version
The way to do it would be to flash a kernel which would enable root
I wonder if it would apply to the devices in Canada Nd the Us eversions
Well when it gets here I'm going to use SuperOneClick 2.3.3 and do temp root and see if it works so I don't break it lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Using the Canadian Telus version - SGH-I717D - the latest Super One Click 2.3.3 fails when attempting the zergrush exploit.
Using the S2 Root mentioned above (without flashing anything extra, mind you), it says:
Device Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
Device Model: SGH-I717D
ROM Build: SGH-I717D-user 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD 207 release-keys
...click "Root Device"...
Checking Device Connection...
Device Connected!
Restarting ADB Server...
Checking ROOT Access...
Superuser Request Has Been DENIED! Aborting...
if I remember correctly, many users of the galaxy s series had trouble rooting at one point because of the signature verification in the 3e recovery. So if the note has the same recovery you won't be able to root using super one click until you remove this verification process. Can anyone try rebooting into recovery to check what recovery they are using.

Okay i just rooted a skyrocket and i had to ODIN flash CMW the flash superuser.zip now thinking should i try that same attempt with the Note... Uhh id hate to brick this bad boy already!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
Personally, I wouldn't risk it until you know for sure you can return it. If you have your AT&T version in hand pull the full rom dump so we can root this bad boy.

I've got a Rogers i717, and I'd love to do a rom dump, but I'm not sure how. I assume I need to use ODIN/Heimdall. Could someone walk me through it?
Ill do a dump soon as i get time when i get home.

Hi guys,
I have my note in hand, just gotta run a few errands and I will get root going shortly.
Easiest method will probably be building a kernel with root already included, anyone know of a stock ROM floating about, that would make it a bit easier Reply @ my post in ROM dev forum, thanks

Hello,
I dont know if it's really silly to post this,
but flashing CM9 and using three key recovery can lay you into recovery to recovery bootloop.
before, I use to flash [EH03] stock rom to overcome the problem.
I just notice a simple way, maybe some might be aware of this.
Here it goes,
First flash the following recovery from odin :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=556634&d=1301538947
and then once you are in recovery then flash a glitch kernel from recovery :-
dowload link :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488976
This breaks the loop.
I dont know how it works but seriously it worked for me.
if it doesnt then flash ths build, and you are done. this can also be use to switching cm9 roms easily rather then again going to stock.
sageDieu said:
it also works to flash a gingerbread rom (I keep a stable cm7 rom on my card just in case) and you don't even have to wipe data, just flash cm7, boot, recovery, then flash back to ics. that way you can save yourself if you're away from a computer.

Silly? Not at all!! I've been wondering about this issue. So many times I would just say screw it and odin back to EH03 stock and start all over because I couldn't get the right CWM to flash.
Thanks!!!!

If you are in a boot loop where recovery does not come up, how do you get to a point to flash?
hello,
you need to flash recovery from odin, so that you can flash a rom. it is mentioned on first post.

Aio toolbox works the best. Anyway, don't go for passion, its an old and obsolete rom. Try iczen on the rootzwiki forum, ICS chimera, doc masters, remics, cm9, slim ics, or a jellybean ROM. If you wanna go jellybean, you need to go flash an ICS then the jb ROM or you will be bricked. For jellybean though, try the hellybean or slim bean ROMs.

Your right about passion, I personally like Schimera it's really nice and customizable. Although jellybean is the one that gave me a some-what soft brick. I made a post about it called SD card, yeah that was thanks to the jellybean rom I used. So until an actual stable jelly bean rom comes out I'm gonna try that. Also the passion one was running quite well except the GPS terribly sucked.

Sorry in advance but *sigh*. This is the 4th one in a week. The TMo 4g (SGH-T959V) is NOT the same as the Vibrant (SGH-T959) . You need to flash the correct pit and PDA files for your device. They Alsop have their own threads and forums. Just search and you will find them.

I agree. If you ever want a clean install, formatting system is one of the puzzle pieces to do so. Wiping system and data and caches is not the same as formatting them.
Anyone can download the toolbox from my signature. I have it permanently hosted there.

Most OPs should state this and my ICS install guide definitely states it. Btw those videos that show the ICS and JB installs are not all they are cracked up to be. There are edited and don't include "everything" to properly flash.

Hmm, I never thought about wiping the system, well if you insist I will do that if I get the SD card problem fixed. If not I will buy the Google Nexus S. Thanks for the advice though.
When you install a script that check's your device's information (example: ro.product.device), where exactly does it check this?

Thanks.
Right now I am using cm9-1 on my phone (Korean shw-m440s). But last night I saw a jelly bean ota release for my phone. I flashed the original firmware needed to upgrade which was no problem. But the upgrade kept giving me an error saying my device was wrong. I checked build.prop and everything was good and matching. So I just wanted to make sure that was what it checked. Other Korean users have installed the update so I know the ota works. Now I'm just wondering why it won't upgrade.
I just got my new Galaxy S4, and I'm using Titanium Backup to try and restore my text messages from my old phone. In a totally boneheaded move, I accidentally restored the app from my old Motorola phone and not the data! :crying: Can someone PLEASE upload the "Dialer Storage" APK as soon as humanly possible so that I don't have to do a full factory reset?
Thank you!!!
I found a zip of stock APK's (Here). I assumed that Dialer Storage is SecTelephonyProvider.apk based on Google searches, so I copied and replaced both SecTelephonyProvider.apk and SecTelephonyProvider.odex. The issue still persists, and now I'm getting constant "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped"!
I have booted into recovery and done a complete factory data reset, but it didn't fix the issue - I'm getting constant "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped" and "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped" errors. What the heck have I done and how can I fix this? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!! Thank you so much!

not true either.. only way to go back n forth is to use a custom me7 rom. if you odin stock me7 tar you are on me7 just as if you took the OTA. You can root it, but cant get custom recovery. the very first sentence on the me7 thread warns of this that he used...
