[Q] Phone not recognized? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. I am in a bit of a pickle! Right then about 3 weeks ago my phone had what I believe to be 'SDS' sudden death? It went off to be repaired/replaced & nearly 3 weeks later they sent me a 'new' phone! Now then, since I have had my phone back my computer won't recognize my phone. At first I thought it might be because I hadn't reactivated my sim card? I have just reactivated the sim card & still the computer won't recognize the phone?? It's quite maddening really as I need to root my phone to restore the phone (hopefully?) with Titanium? Unless I can restore my phone without having to root?? Can anyone help me out please?
Cheers Jay

1. check another cable;
2. uninstall KIES, install samsung drivers
3. turn off net on pc before connecting
4. check on another cable/pc
It is possible, that your "new" refurb phone returned with damaged connector.

That is OK, follow the steps I provided.
It still CAN be charged, even if not recognized.

I think I bricked my phone... again...

So I just received a replacement phone because I bricked my previous one and I think I may have bricked this one as well (because I'm an idiot).
I can't get anything to show up on my screen except the screen that has a phone a yellow triangle with a ! and a computer. They're little icons lined up in the middle of the screen when I try to turn it on.
How this happened:
I upgraded my stock phone to Froyo using Kies and then I tried to flash the KA6+Voodoo firmware that I found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480 using Heimdall on my mac.
I had put the phone into download mode, selected the zImage and clicked start and it just sat there for a little bit before it said "Failed to receive device info response!"
I didn't know what to do after that so I just tried to restart the phone and I ended up with that error screen that I'm becoming more familiar with than I would like to be...
If anybody can help save my phone I would really appreciate it.
You just need to go through the normal odin steps to go back to stock.
The instructions on how to odin are in this forum.. I'm kinda lazy this morning sorry.
Odin isn't recognizing my phone right now and Windows is saying that it's detecting a "gadget serial" device but can't successfully install drivers for it. Based on some advice I found elsewhere, I'm installing Samsung PC Studio which should contain the drivers for the "gadget serial" device.
Hopefully Odin will work then...
also try a different cable. I know that if I use certain cables odin will not work. I have to use the cable that came with my phone.
Google Galaxy s USB drivers and install those.
And your phone is only bricked if nothing ever comes on. So your still golden. Just use the volume button download mode method and odin to stock.
IT'S WORKING. THank you!
The only problem now is that it's not recognizing my sim card...

Turn off the phone and pull out the sim card. Reinsert the sim card and reboot the phone. It should be recognized.
I just tried that a couple times and it's still not recognizing it.

OMG PANIC! Insert another sim and see if that works. If so, pull the battery for a minute and try again with your sim. If that doesn't work call T-Mo and confess that you broke it.

I'm trying to restore my phone to factory settings using (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475) but once again I've gotten the phone ! computer error. However, this time when I plug the phone into the computer to try to use Odin, it's no longer recognizing that a USB device has been plugged in.
I've been trying different combinations of battery pulls, plugging it in after the phone is on, plugging it in before it's on, etc. and nothing is working.
EDIT: Nevermind, I got it. Ignore me... it case it wasn't clear already, I'm a n00b and have no idea what I'm doing.

USB of LG O1 not getting Detected by PC

First of all I am a big-Noob.
My LG optimus one P-500 is in stock ROM.
My Problem :-
Earlier USB was working fine but now
when I plug it in to the AC Adapter it charges OK but when I plug it in to the USB after that it only charges and neither the Phone nor the PC recognizes the USB data connection.
I have tried
1) Power off the phone and remove the battery for a couple of seconds and power it back up, after doing this the USB does not connects. Not even recognised by PC or Phone
2) Device manager also does not detect anything.
3) Uninstalled modem driver and reinstalled USB driver but no result.
Please help
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Dear mates
I have really very high respect for the forum so please help me out.

Cheers
This happened to me twice before. I had to send it to LG's Service Center because I saw no way of fixing it since the computer wouldnt know what to do with it...
If you have custom recovery installed, you might be able to flash an original ROM over it. This wasn't an option for me before and it seemed like the only way to fix my phone. Don't take my word for it though. Try for the service center first if possible...
Did you try going to settings and choosing Mass Storage only?
Also, change the USB port of the cable with which you connect your phone (plug the cable in another one - try this with all ports if it doesn't work the first time)...
Before going to any service, do a backup and Factory Reset your device, then try again...
Oh, and disable LG modem from Device Manager after installing the USB drivers.
USB not getting detected
I am trying in choosing Mass Storage only.
"Also, change the USB port of the cable with which you connect your phone (plug the cable in another one - try this with all ports if it doesn't work the first time)..."
Not helping either
Disabled LG modem from Device Manager after installing the USB drivers.
No use
Before going to any service, do a backup and Factory Reset your device, then try again...
I will try this definitely but going to service means 3-4 days without phone . really very scary .
thanks mate
anymore help
Okay , I did face this problem before and I did about hundreds of advice from my friends but this is the step that works.
I discovered that this happens when you do crazy **** on your sd card with applications such as titanium backup or root explorer. Curiousity kills the cat.
Firstly you need:
1) Usb Card Reader [Of course which suits with your sdcard]
2) Computer
Firstly, you want to dismount the sdcard from your phone and mount it to the USB Card Reader.
Connect the Usb Card Reader to your Computer.
You should be able to gain entry to the sdcard
Next, clear everything on your sd card then place your sd card on your phone back and do a factory reset. If you don't do a factory reset then you must do it all over again if you decided to connect the usb to the phone. After reset-ing the phone , try to connect your phone to the computer. Congratulations.
Note: This works for me but it doesn't meant that it will work for you , but I think that this is worth the try.

Ur phone charges through usb that means your phone usb port/usb cable is ok. Do this :
Uninstall the drivers, restart the pc and try connecting the phone again. Remember not to install the drivers again. Win7 save a dump of old drivers and i think it will auto detect it. Post results here.

Got exactly the same situation with USB(on different PCs) and also Emergency mode on every reboot(taking battery out for about an hour helps).
Did SD wipe though not sure about factory reset afterwards, gotta try it one more time...

Are you sure you are having the latest driver?
try this:
Code:
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/client/app/B2CAppSetup.exe
install it,
(you may have to choose language from the last tab, 1st or 2nd option)
and choose P500 from "driver installation"
I didnt experience this issue but if i cant help im sorry.

Try another cable.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
None of the above methods worked on mine as well - same results on different cable(pc/os).
Will try to flash rooted original firmware via custom recovery, del custome recovery and root and send it to service.

[Q] Hardware USB issue troubleshooting

Hey guys, well my note got thrown into a puddle last may. Everything has been working fine up until now. Two weeks ago my computer was recognizing my note just fine. In the last couple of days I've been trying to figure out why my computer isn't recognizing my phone.
So far I have:
-Uninstalled/reinstalled USB drivers
-Troubleshooted kies to see if that would recognize my phone
-Started up droid explorer to see if that would recognize it either.
-Have disabled/enabled usb debugging to see if that made a difference.
Is there anything left I can do to determine if it's a hardware issue or not? The phone charges just fine.
I've been paying warranty monthly.
If it's indeed a hardware issue, how am I supposed to revert from my custom rom back to stock and remove personal files without usb?
Thanks for the input everyone.

Have you tried Kies whilst your Note is in recovery and download mode?
If not...
If I recall correctly, the stock recovery has an OTA firmware install option.
If I am right, you can use a WiFi FTP connection, Dropbox, Google Drive, Skydrive, Box, etc to get the CWM/TWRP installable stock recovery package onto your phone, flash that, then restore to stock firmware via the OTA option.

[Q] Has my SII's USB died?

Well, the day before it occurred to me that I'd like to install a custom ROM, therefore I went on to plug my phone into my PC and for my surprise, the phone didn't pop that MTP warning and the PC did not recognize it.
So I went around and changed USB ports, cables and PCs, same thing.
Decided to try Mass Storage mode, when I press the START button and put in the cable it goes back into the main start screen.
So I went on and tried that *#7284# trick people used since apparently 4.0.3 bugged some crap stuff in the phone, no success either.
Strangely enough I can connect the "pendrive dongle" and it will map pendrives.
Well, I don't have my phone rooted or with SU so that means CWM from app store won't be able to install the recovery module, and I can't install... you get the picture.
Nor ODIN nor HEIMDALL will recognize my phone in recovery mode, wich suggests that the data lanes on my phone went somewhat dead.
Finally, any cable I plug in the phone says it's charging my device, wich leads me to belive that the usb port is dead.
Anyone had this issue?
Anyone can confirm me I'll have to take it to Sammy's assistance?
Sure looks like the USB is dead/dying.
Sent from my digital submersible hovercraft.
So I got one more question, can I root and/or install CWM so I do not stay dependent of the USB to update it or I do need to plug in the USB to install CWM through ODIN?
Several problems
It can be several reasons
1.the usb is dead buy new
2. try factory resetting the device
3. install kies on pc it will install all the drivers that you need
4.your usb port(of the phone) is dead
I had the same problem pc was saying "USB cannot be recognized" I TRIED EVERYTHING from factory resetting, changing pc usb ports, changing usb, changing kernel, roms, trying on other pc, reinstalling kies and drivers but nothing. The problem was in the usb port on the phone where you connect the charger on the phone. That part is weak and so you have to change it. Take to customer service with your warranty and they will fix it without charging anything just tell them your problem and say that you read that most of the galaxy s2 users have this problem and that you didn't touch the hardware of the phone

Warranty has already expired.
Kies was installed on the PC, ODIN gives no info @ COM port.
I wanted to connect it just to root and install CWM so I can swap ROMs as much as I want.
Thing is, the customer service wants 1 week to assess the issue and probably 100USD to fix it.
So for some god-knows-why reason my phone decided to conect to MTP while charging, I quickly restarted it into revocery mode and flashed CF_Root w/ CWM5.5.
Successful!
Bloody USB thingy!
Now I can start messing around with the phone.
Anyone has a n00blet guide on ROMs?
I was thinking about moving to CM 10.1, one of those nightlies running 4.2.2.
This is the one I used >> CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXX_LPE-v5.5-CWM5
Can anyone suggest actions?
For future you should change your USB-Port. Here we get one for about 15 € (about 20 $) in ebay. It's very simple to change and then you have a full working phone again. Just watch the Videos on Youtube and everyone can do this. Hope I could help!

[Q] [PROBLEM with] USB Connection and recognition

First off, hi all.
I have a bit particular problem.
Few weeks ago I got my self a SGSIII for my birthday (already had one, but it got stolen), and since the beginning I've had the same problem: My computer won't recognize my SIII, not even as Unknown device, won't even charge it, only if I take out battery and get it back then plug it in - it starts to charge but again there is no sign of any kind of hardware being connected on the PC. The cable I'm using already got me connected with my previous SIII device to this very same computer, so you're thinking "it must be your new device then", but no - the same cable and same device work on my other computer.
SO; on my computer (with Win8), it wont connect in any manner - only charges if battery was just removed; it connects to my other computer thru same cable (this one has Win7); but the same cable connected my previous SIII to both Win8 and Win7 with this cable with no problem.
This is what I tried so far:
Kies unistall, install, reinstall, update - all that stuff
Driver only, uninstall, install, rebooting, installing blah blah - did that also
So; anyone here has any IDEA what is going on? Thanks in advance.
Question impossible to understand .

I'll try to simplify:
My SIII when plugged in to a computer - not recognized, not even as Unknown device in Device manager.
It does not even start with the charging, unless I remove battery and put it back in.
I thought the problem is with my Win8 pc, because my SIII works on my other pc (that has Win7). BUT my previous cellphone (also an SIII) was recognized every time on that same computer with that same cable. So I'm wondering if anyone had this problem or has a clue on a solution - the problem itself is not that hard to understand.
try to set: use as camera - works for me on win8
