hi guys i'm trying to find a solution for sd cards unmount on lg optimus one!!!i have a kingston 8gb cl4 and i had a 4-5 remount a day before trying this:
format with windows, choose file system fat32 and in allocation unit size choose 64 kb(should be the maximum) and give a name!
after this i had no problem for 5 days: no remount no reboot!!!
i would share this because it could be a solution....so anyone have problem may can test it!!!
there is a solid solution. buy a class 4+ micro sd..
but, kudos to you! i have a class 4+ micro sd so i can't test it out, but i'm sure others will.
btw this will kill all ur data in sdcard. backup is needed

So easy if it isn't your money that will be spent
BTW, I have a class 4 SD and it unmounts regulary, so class 4 doesn't really work.
Thanks for the tip dongimin2, I'll try it out.
before i bought kingston class 4 i had the original microsd that was shipped with optimus one and i never had problems!the problems started when i bought kingston memory!....howewer.....another day without a remount or reboot!
If speed is the problem (assuming it is), then I bet reiserfs solves the problem. That is if someone can get it to work with Android Just my opinion though.
EDIT: reiserfs for Android exists. Can someone port it for the O1? xD
8gb cl6 never once had unmount. Previously on original card, unmounts several times a day

with me happens the opposite...with original sd never had an unmount....with the cl4 8gb several!howewer i'm passed a week without unmounts!
And... what about having NO SD AT ALL? Is it possible? Does it still crash the phone?
Can someone test it (I don't own the device, sorry)?

Erm, this could really solve the unmount problem, I guess.
@kpbotbot reiserfs is goddamn fast..i have been it for past 5 years and not a single corrupt file ever..(MS needs to learn) having a2sd on reiserfs will be quite good and how abt using FAT and not FAT32 for saving data on SD..havent tried it but shudnt it work ??? Both fs have same 4GB filesize limits

But... Do android need an SD card (or an internal memory like the nexus S) to work properly? Or is it really possibile to boot without the SD

Have you tried using the old FAT on your SD? Afaik, max sizes for FAT is about 260~. I'm going to install either Debian Testing or aptosid tonight and I'm going to try out reiserfs
On the relevant side: I hope someone ports it on our kernel :/
I formatted the card from the phone , but nothing changed...i have root + milk os 1.0 touch lag kernel , before rooting + milk os kernel , i hadn't sd unmounts...i did a nandroid backup . Should i restore it ? , but i'll loose the overlock + no touch lag.. what should i do ?
Just an update: I formatted the SD card as the original poster suggested, and it did reduced the umounts considerably, but not totally.
I stigg get a umount every 5 days or so, which is surely better than twice a day
Looking forward to Gingerbread...

Mtd roms sometimes don't get along with some SD cards. You can try formatting in cwm. If you have a spare card try formatting and using that one.
Always use proper mounting, un mounting methods.
PWGB,TKSGB10-14, adren shot xix, honeycomb2.03, ec09 radio.

when you're formatting are you doing a full erase or a quick format?
you might try a full erase, check for bad sectors and what not, use easeus partiton manager, or gparted, of the sd card formatter.
Miui ate my samsung card about a month ago and it was unrecoverable.
What brand of sd card are you having problems with? stock samsung, sandisk , or kingston?
The samsung cards are known to be shotty to begin with.

I have a 32gb San disk speed 4 that gets corrupted by the end of the day (works fine on touch wiz base roms). My Samsung 16gb micro sd seems to be the running fine on MIUI and CM7, never had a problem with it so I doubt its the brand

What kind of error notifications did you guys get?
If you got one saying something like bad sd card
All you need to do is unmount it, and remove it off the phone
Then reboot, and pop it back in

How did you format yours? Through the phone or using the computer? Damn formatting through the computer takes 30 min for me. I have not tried formatting through the phone yet cause I heard its one of the guarantees of frying the sd cards on EC09 days, not sure if this roms frying abilities is the same.
Btw it seem to only damage my 32GB San disk, my stock Samsung sd card is surviving MTD roms

Hello:
I purchased a Komputerbay 64gb SDXC Class 6 card from Amazon, planning to use it in my S2. Unfortunately, it does not seem to work. I wanted to get the Sandisk, but they were sold out...
When plugged in, I get an error about an empty card, and offer to format it - this seems to be stuck, does not finish even after an hour.
The card seems to work fine in my Macbook, and in a Huawei Mediapad running ICS.
Any ideas ? Returning the card is not easy - I got it on a trip to US, and I am now back in Czech republic.....
Thanks for any info, Paul.
in order for it to work in an S2 the card needs to be formatted to Fat32 - it doesn't support exFat (default format of sdxc cards)

Try connecting your phone to your comp and format it to Fat32 from there

interesting ides....
When connected in USB debug mode, only the build-in memory shows up on my Mac. The uninitialized USB card does not show up in Disk Utility ( the OS X program for formatting ).
Thanks, Paul.
Take card out of phone, put in computer, format FAT32.
Plug it into your MacBook, open up disk utility, format the disk as FAT32. Backup the stuff on it before you do it though!

Thanks for the suggestion - this was one of the first things I tried...no go.....
The card formatted this way works fine in an Huawei MediaPad ICS tablet....I am beginning to think there is some hardware incompatibility between the card and the S2. There are user reporting success with this card and S2 on Amazon.
Paul.
Are you running a custom Rom in your S2? I had similar problems, for some reason the format tool doesn't seem to work right. I used this tool - EaseUS Partition Manager to first remove the exFAT partition, then create a new Fat32 partition with the total space used (remember to select 'apply' between steps) then I put it in the phone and it all worked. If it still does not work after that I'd sort out an RMA.

I'm running a 64GB card in my SGS2, it does support them but they must be formatted to Fat32 (which windows doesn't support doing so a 3rd party app is needed)
Try Gparted.Google to find download and tutorial
sometimes windows doesn't format correctly
Windows can't format an sd card larger than 32gb with fat32, only ntfs or exfat I think
I should say I also used Easeus Position Manager to actually format the card. I also put the card in a card reader, it wasn't in my GS2 when I first formatted it to Fat32 from exFat.
This isn't necessary, it's just how I did it.
Sent from my GT-I9100
It does support cards larger than 32GB as long as they're formatted correctly.
The screenshot just shows that my GS2 does recognise the card.

This worked for me in less than a minute: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698672&page=9 (see post 85).
Note: despite the thread being about the SIII, it did the trick for my SII (ROM: CyanogenMod nightly august 26th; kernel: Siyah v4.1.1).
I have had a 64gig card in my phone from Sandisk.
suddenly after 7 months it started to do funny things, not saving pics/movies etc.
Using a galaxy s2 with 4.1.1 and 3.0.15 siyah kernel
Ressurection remix JB
On my computer have the same problem with the card, i can write stuff on it, can read stuff and delete,
When i turn the card out of the computer and then insert it again.
Nothing has changed, nothing extra on the card and the pieces ive deleted are back again and still working.
Got a really expensive 64gig writeable here :S
Can not format it also , even with some tools like posted before, it gives an error.
So boys and girls, it does not always work fine.
And Sandisk says, o no, your phone doesnt support it so no service.
Screw them i say, i never buy sandisk anymore

I try to do it and says the card is safe to remove.
How do I get this to work?

The problem is in format of SDcard. Actually, Faux Kernel won't read exFat format, which is mostly used to format 64Gb storages. There two ways to fix it:
1. Flash Ktoonez kernel (KT-kernel) that supports exFat (just like stock kernel).
2. Find the way to format your SDcard into Fat32 format. There is utility named Fat32Format can be found on the Internet. Or, if you are on Mac - just select Fat format.

caution, formatting 64gb cards in fat32 can cause data corruption over time. i recomend this mod. works on aosp and tw roms that have init.d support. i use it and works great for exfat support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155363

Hi, I recently reverted from KK rom to stock 2.3.3. There is a strange problem only with files on microSD. I copy files on it but at first reboot the media scanning tells me card problem (broken?). If you've not done a /data wipe after downgrading, that can be an issue. Else, copy the files of your sd to your PC and then format it on your galaxy player.

Nope, I have to buy new one. I have been using my card for 2 years. The card performance have been degraded due to extensive read and write, after reading your sugestion I tested the card using software called "AOMEI partition manager" and the result are degraded performance due to extensive read and write.
For information to other people with same problem; I use "persyst.sys.vold.switchexternal" mod/workarround to swap galaxy player limited storage with my 64 Gb card. This mod make the card work very very hard and degrade card performance.
Hope this information will help other people with same problem.
