Hi everyone,
I would like to install on my S2 a ROM based on CM10.1, but which has some of the features of the stock Samsung firmware, like the following:
status bar accesible from anywhere by swyping down on the upper part of the screen
dialer with quick gestures for calling and sending message
Pop-up play
smart stay
widgets from Samsung
Alarm clock with smart alarm
task manager
Samsung music player with music square
zoom in the web browser by sliding on the margin of the page
Do you know any ROM with these features?
Looks like it's easier for you to just install a Samsung rom Install another launcher and you're done.
It's not just about the launcher, but the general look and feel of CM10.1. It's faster, and it has a bunch of features that I like. And not forget the quick settings panel
But those features that I enumerated above are pretty indispensable for me.
check out this thread (X-Treme CM10):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795200
It's AOKP/CM based ROM with a Galaxy S3 Mod that adds the features you are looking for and still maintains the fast user experience.
It's not quite what I was looking for. I didn't even found the Samsung features except for a crappy Task manager replica.

It's almost perfect
I like it because it has the status bar accessible from everywhere, but some of the Samsung functionalities are missing.
If I just had the time to make such a ROM myself...

Hey guys,
I'm still trying to get my SGS2 figured out... I've got it set up with GoLauncher and GoLocker and I love the look and setup etc but I would love to know what ROM people suggest.. I've read all the guides on how to flash custom ROMs, what apps can be frozen etc etc. but I don't know which ROM to go with because I'm not sure if they will change the look and feel of the phone.. This is what I want the ROM to do:
- I want to keep the current look and setout of apps/home screen etc
- Something quick and easy on the battery
- To be able to get rid of all the apps I don't use
I only really use SMS, Phone, Email, Camera, Facebook and Shazam. Nothing complicated really
Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Any advice is appreciated.
Oh boy, it's going to be fun on these forums today.
I use MIUI, it's based on CyanogenMod so there is no bloatware, very customizable, very fast and very efficient battery usage with the Android OS battery bug fixed.
Or use CyanogenMod 7 and use your same configuration of GoLauncher and stuff.
CriskeloROM is if you want to have a very customizable Samsung based ROM.
Rooted stock. Yes, I'm serious.

Sorry mate, the best I could find was a thread which highly suggested Villain ROM but the thread was 6 months old, and I wasn't sure if it changes your home screen and everything.

I definitely won't be going for CriskeloROM then
So will MIUI change the whole look of my phone or can I keep my current look? And what's the difference between it and CyanogenMod 7?
Sorry if the questions sound basic to you guys!
Cheers
CriskeloROM is like stock Samsung ROM with extra added features like CRT on, off, ICS animations, etc...if you want Samsung stuff, and your current UI looks, go with CriskeloROM, I used to use it until I switched to MIUI.
MIUI is different from CyanogenMod, because it has a different look and feel with all MIUI's thousand's of themes and you can make your phone so customized with different boot animations, lock screen layouts, etc.
CyanogenMod is stock Android, with nothing on it and you can put any look on it. MIUI has it's own launcher which is part of the entire theming architecture it comes with, which integrates every aspect of the UI with the launcher, lock screen, and other MIUI apps so that one app controls all.
OK I checked out the MIUI website and I don't really want to change the look so I'll rule that out.
Which is fastest out of CyanogenMod and CriskeloROM? I don't care about Samsung apps (assuming phone + sms etc aren't included? I'm guessing you mean the social hub, music hub etc etc, right?)
Try out CyanogenMod out then, its fastest and speediest because it has absolutely no bloatware. Try it out, there's no harm trying

Try checkrom. Its stock based but has an kitchen app with everything you need to customize the rom the way you want..All bloatware are removed and the kitchen is a must....Or try Hyperdroid...Another good rom and the team are great and they give great support...Those are the two roms that i would suggest
I use checkrom and nothing else.
But for you I would suggest you just root your phone with cf root, install titanium backup and use it to freeze or delete the apps you don't want.

I would suggest going through android development threads and looking at the features, screenshots and videos and compare, then root, make a nand backup and flash as many roms as you like until you find the one you want to stay with

Insanity II, it's based on CM7 and it only has the basic features. Superfast and looks like stock Android. Have fun.

Thanks heaps, I just used cf-root and then froze heaps of unused apps with Titanium Backup Pro, and I have saved a lot of RAM in doing so! I read somewhere there is a battery fix you can apply when you've rooted your phone but can't find it now.. Does anyone know what it's called?
And are there any other essentials to install now that I've got the phone rooted? Maybe the SetCPU program? I'm guessing that would save a lot of battery without sacrificing performance too much, right??
Cheers!
Just flash any Samsung based ROM (I like Androidema), flash Chainfire's Kernel for simplicity and you're set.
Hi guys, i want to buy a Samsung Galasy S3 but sincerly i don't like so much the Touchwiz GUI so i wonder if someone can say me if there is a way in order to delete Touchwiz with a Custom Rom or other way... I also wonder if someone can say me if the timestamp message is time of Message Sent or Message recive i explain well because my english isn't perfet (i'm italian) if i have phone power off and someone send me a message at 6:00pm, when i puwer on phone at 8:00pm and i read message, will i see the 6:00 pm in timestamp or 8:00pm ???
I hope you can forgive me for my bad english, thanks guys you're all a great people, i have only to learn from you
I ASK ADMIN IF GENTLY THEY CAN MOVE THIS THREAD, PLEASE.
Why do XDA even bother on creating a Q&A subsection in the forums...
sorry i didn't see i was in General, now i want to move post in right session or repost in correct session, but i don't find the way for delete this, how can i? sorry again.
Now to answer your question. There are many launchers you can use if you don't like touchwiz. Just install and when you hit the home button it will ask you which launcher you want to use. Check the block to make it your default and then choose the launcher you want.
_______________
Just Flash It !!!
Thanks for the answere, i know this way, but if i change launcher GUI keep the touchwiz or touchwiz is only the Launcher? i ask this because i think Touchwiz by samsung is inside the system and it take a lot of space and i don't think a launcher take so much space. maybe in a custom rom we can recover the space used by touchwiz and use if for other thing, maybe a smoother and lighter rom for SGS3 will improve performance. How about SMS timestamp?
You probably are referring to the touchwiz launcher. You can replace the launcher with apex or nova which are "stock vanilla ICS" launchers that include options to customize it. Apex is a better choice if you want a free launcher with many features...but if you want to buy nova prime I would recommend that.
The new touchwiz has some nice features, and replacing the launcher won't get rid of them.

laastan Regalia,
I've got a Nexus one and i tried to install ICS in order to try some launcher, i agree with you as Nova is the best, i will buy it but before i want to try use the Touchwiz, maybe i'll like ite... it isn't very bad as the Gingerbread stock launcher XD
Hello guys,
I am looking for Jelly Bean ROM ( I mean JB look, i don`t like samsung overlay on android) but with all special functions of Samsung Galaxy s 3 such as S Voice, Smart Stay and touch options( zooming with two fingers on picture in gallery etc.) I spent whole day on searching but didn`t find any maybe looking in wrong place? or just doesn`t exist?
Also i would like to add that it isn`t my very beginig on flashing roms. Previously I had HTC Desire HD with plenty roms tried.

I would suggest a custom deodexed sammy rom (wanam, omega etc) with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730397 and nova or apex launcher! Thats as close as you can get.

And does the "pan to move icons" works? I have already found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886332 MS Team HD 5.0 and it doesn`y support it but just it so it`s very acceptable. Another thing, but propably in every rom, lack of S Planner widget.
Would totally love this combination as well. Mainly so I can keep WiFi tethering which Vanilla JB ROMs don't have.
Nice to hear that I`m not alone
S Planner and other samsung applicatins might be in the rom, depending if the author put it in or not. I can not give you that specific advice because I am using cm10. So you gotta check some roms out and see whats in there.
You also have the option to flash deodexed stock rom and then vertumus theme, so you got the complete Samsung stuff. Here you get the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704185
Oh and perhaps also check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911572 Has the JB look out of the box
http://galaxys3.roms-db.com/ also very neat when trying to find a suiting rom!
Apex or Nova launcher with holo locker.

Hi there all!
I'm porting MIUI JB for Samsung Galaxy S III. Almost everything works smooth as it should and I'm left with only one little but verry annoying issue: when pulling down the notification status bar the animation lags, it's choppy, not Jelly Bean smooth. All other animations run smooth. This problem prevents many user's acces to a beautifuly crafted ROM in wich I invest most of my spare time and I wouldn't want to stop developing this just for an animation issue.
The MIUI I port is original miuiandroid's Galaxy Nexus version and the base I use is CM10 for SGS III of course, which has nice and fluid animation.
I also tryied other MIUI base, such as Nexus S, and also changed the CM10 build, but every combination has this issue. Related to this I read in different places words like SystemUI, surfaceflinger, motion blur, and vsync... but don't know much about them.
Please can someone give me a hint, a place to start, or maybe a solution?
Best bet would bbe to check the MIUI site. No real development for it is done here nor will it ever be.

Hi I have a question, is it possible to port the amazing camera app that is included in AOSP and Cyanogen mod 10.1 JB 4.2.2 to a stock Samsung JB rom?
The camera app is amazing in Cyanogen mod 10.1 has so many options like great ISO settings etc... I would really love to use this on a my stock rom (deodexed).
You might ask why don't you just use Cyanogen 10.1, I would love too but I have issues with it that prevent me from being able to use it.
This what u need?

It looks like the one but I don't see the features like in the CM 10.1 camera app, where you change all sorts of stuff like ISO from 50 and up and different modes for different conditions etc... The options menu in this one only has three choices the one in CM 10.1 has about 8 different settings to go into.
Do you know if that is the same one as posted here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...830-jelly-bean-4-2-camera-20.html#post2283346
I think the the camera app was updated from 4.2 to 4.2.2 version or is that the same?
I just installed the latest AOKP and it has the same nice camera I was looking for and the issue I was having preventing me from using CM 10.1 seems not present, so all seems well for now.
