Hey guys.
Long time gone from XDA.
I've currently got a black iPhone 5 64GB. There is a guy locally that wants to trade me his better than mint White Note 2 with a Urban Armor gear case and all original accessories for my phone. The features on the Note 2 are great and I'm sold on the phone but worries me is losing value because this iPhone 5 will hold value and its not guaranteed the Note 2 will.
What say ye, XDA?

Value compared to a better device. Do the trade bro. You won't regret it. A bunch of people on here have traded iphone5s for the note 2 and all were happy they did

Yeah. But after two years this phone will still be worth $450-500.

In my opinion, the only reason the iPhone 5 will hold its value is because it has the Apple logo on it. Software wise, iOS is still iOS with no new innovative features. (If you think the features presented in those Apple commercial/ads are theirs/innovative, then you're wrong. Android was first with panorama, noise cancellation, etc.) Build quality...meh, it's nice to know you have aluminum and metal on your phone, but is it really worth having it when you drop it on concrete and you can't replace the backing cheaply? I think Samsung is doing right with plastic construction and removable battery door. Furthermore, the Note 2 has up to 80 GB of storage compared to 64 GB of the iPhones. Not to mention, a 64 GB SD card is cheaper than a 64 GB iPhone model. Common sense tells me to go for a feature rich phone, which is cheaper, but is more versatile than an iPhone.
But yes, like most tech, the Note 2 will lose some value later on down the line but that's to be expected as companies are pumping out handsets with upgraded hardware every month.
Do yourself a favor, grab the Note 2, ditch iOS, and join the world of Android that is the definition of endless possibilities.
EDIT: The Note 2 will in fact get Android Key Lime Pie as well. Samsung is doing a magnificent job keeping their devices maintained and up to date with Android firmware.
EDIT 2: Most of the Samsung Galaxy S4 features featured in the S4 will come to the Note 2 (Air hover, eye scrolling, etc.)
What's worth more to you, resale value or the use of the device?
The iPhone may hold value better than the Note, but I value the things I can do with my Note more, so to me, it would be a no brainer. I used to have an iPhone too (not a 5, but still), and I might not be able to sell my Note for as much in two years, but I'd rather have and use my Note for those two years than an iPhone.
But, it depends on what you want more.
Sent from my Note II
Notes seem to hold their value fairly well.
Just look at the prices for the original note
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
And even if the iphone5 does hold its resale value a bit better (which while true in the past, may not still be true in two years), it will work out to be a a loss of maybe $5-10 a month over that period. For the cost of one or two Starbucks coffees a month for you get a far more useful and powerful device. Make the trade...you won't be disappointed.

You may be concerned about the resale value of the iPhone but for the note 2, you wont have to worry because it's a device actually WORTH KEEPING.

almost a year later and s3's are still worth 350-400. im betting in 2yrs the note2 will be worth that if not more, simply for the fact each day apple loses a customer and android gains one. the galaxy line of devices are steadily growing and the apple sheep are finall waking up to the fact iphone is no longer the greatest thing since sliced bread.
If you are worried about trading your oh so valuable iphone, why are you listing it for trade(I am from Memphis & I think I saw your ad, if that is yours).
The best Android phone out right now is the Note 2. Resale value means absolutely nothing if you like your phone. If the only reason you use an iphone is due to resale value, you are doing it wrong.
With that said, there is ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE that the iphone 5 will hold its value as you predict. Look at the 4 & 4s. Since LTE, those phones, at least on Verizon & Sprint are had for 150-200 bucks, Very poor resale value. If Apple stays small screen & software stagnant like it has, iphones will only be worth what the people are willing to pay. Apple is not the status symbol it once was.
I personally don't buy phones because of how much I can sell it for a few years later. I want the best at the time, which happens to be the Note 2.

See? This is why people have a problem with Android fanboys just like the stuck up Apple fanboys.
I didn't ask your opinion on the iPhone. The responses from other people were fine.
I trade phones because I enjoy trying out new hardware/software. I'm a technology geek like that. And I am concerned about resale ability because that's important and should be important to anyone. If a top spec phone came out that beat the Note 2 but it cost only $50 off contract, would you trade yours outright for it? Probably not.
Thus, that proves my point on value being a key deciding factor.

What!??
You asked if trading the iphone for a Note 2 was a sound proposition. I gave you my opinion(which you came here & asked for).
Your comparison to a $50 off contract phone is ridiculous. Makes no sense at all. You were not asking any such thing. You did not ask if trading for a iPhone for a Droid Charge.
The Note 2 currently resells for 500-650 based on condition and accessories. It resells for the same value as your iPhone.
PLUS it has a removable battery, PLUS it has a microsd card slot, PLUS it has the spen, which NO other phone has.
Seems to me, the Note 2 actually has more value.
Why in earth would you come to an android forum, in the Note 2 section, & ask if the note 2 would be worth trading for an iphone if you didn't want to hear an answer.
Everything in technology depreciates in value. rather quickly I might add. When the next phone comes out, your phone is obsolete & is worth less. If you claim to love to try out tech, then do it.
Like I said in my post you quoted, I want the best available at the time, which happens to be the Note 2, not the iPhone. If iPhone had a better product, I would have that. No "fanboy crap"
The software aspect is enough to keep this Note 2 valuable for a VERY long time. The hardware on this phone is future proof so we will get those future Android desserts with the innovative features of Touchwiz.

Incorrect again. I wasn't looking for your opinion of the iPhone 5. I know better than to come on XDA for that. PLUS, I don't need your validation of my iPhone. My topic was generated to gain input on the phone from people that have it.
Technology isn't cheap so my interest in trying to preserve my investment is perfectly valid and I'm not really concerned with you thinking its not.
Lets get back on topic.

Samsung already confirmed the Note 2 will be receiving Android 5.x.
I think the phone will hold its resale value but not as well as the iPhone 5. A lot of it has to do with accessories.
You might be better off buying one outright instead.
I love my note 2 and I just came from an iPhone 4, sure imessage was nice and pandora downloader But the features and capabilities of the note outweighs those of the iPhone. Plus change and development is imminent on the note where as I doubt you'll see much change on ios even though there will be updates.
Multi Window!
Pop-up player!
A stylus!
5.5" screen(great for movies & games)
Ability to flash ROMs, kernels, & mods
Lol
Just my opinion. Good luck!

I sort of feel like Samsung focusing on the spen hurts the marketing of this device more than help it. But again, any publicity can be good in this case.

Haha. Read some of the comments on YouTube. So funny to see fanboys so enraged. There aren't even android fans defending it and they're flipping ****. They're having their own little pissing and moaning party because android has a sweet phone. Wow.
They're all complaining, "there's an app for that," or "get somebody who knows how to use the phone!" Completely missing the point. That girl owns her iPhone and doesn't know how to do that stuff, and they picked this guy off the street and only gave him a couple of hours to play with it, and everything he did is using stock software, not an extra app. Yes, maybe they should have picked somebody who knows the full potential of the iPhone, but I feel that she's a pretty damn accurate representation of the average iPhone user.
I know there are several previous iPhone users here, so just to be clear, that last line isn't a jab at you, as I assume you are all above average iPhone users.

That commercial only pleases people that already have a bias towards android.
She is a typical iphone user.
They just buy iphones without knowing what smartphones can do, and
think iphone is the only smart phone in the world.
As an iPhone owner that recently bought the Note, I'd say that the commercial in question is a joke.
The Note is quite versatile for those particular "challenges", but still that iPhone user seemed extremely incompetent. I really like my Note after spending a few days getting adjusted to it, and I'm also well aware of how dated the iPhone 4 and 4S are in comparison to a few of the better Android phones (such as the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Nexus). Android phones should be aiming to beat the iPhone 5, not the 4 and 4S. That will be the true challenge.
Funny you say that, especially when the iphone 5 isn't even out yet. The commercial was promoting the Note...who cares if its staged? Just like the iphone commercials, most of the things done on the phone were speeded up so the phone would look very smooth.
-On another NOTE, Samsung goes 5.3"

Sorry, but the ball is in Apple's court. They need to produce an iPhone 5 that will beat phones such as the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus, Razr, Razr Maxx, etc. In my opinion, those phones, and some others that aren't coming to mind, bested the 4S in technology advances. Galaxy Note for obvious reasons, screen, size, s pen, LTE etc. Nexus beats it in screen, has ICS, LTE. Razr bests it in thinness, screen (imo), and LTE. Maxx in battery life, screen, LTE. This whole crop of phones was designed to beat the 4 and 4s, and I feel they have done it. Now it's the 5's chance to take the lead in tech again.
After the 5 is released, then Android will again have to (mayyyyybe) fight for the best phone technology wise once again. Although I don't see Apple making the necessary changes to have the top dog in the fight.
That being said, even if it isn't better than the current crop of Androids, the iPhone 5 will sell like mad, purely due to Apple loyalty and insane fanboyism.

Yeah the next new iphone will have voice integration, 1080p video recording, and a dual core processor. Oh wait that's the iPhone 4s. Oh wait all those things were already in most new android phones before the iPhone came out already.
No wait I know...the iPhone 5. A dual core 3.5" phone with a better Siri (because remember Siri requires a dual core processor ) and longer battery life and LTE. Remember it's the next great thing.
I think at this point, if you have a Note 1, you're off contract or at least upgrade eligible. I was wowed by the HTC One, and looking forward to the event last night for the S4, but I was looking for a more significant hardware change. Samsung seems to be more interested in adding more and more features, but none of them were "must haves" for me. I'll be going with the HTC One for my next phone, and will keep my Note for work.
If this is the S4, the Note 3 will likely just be a larger version, probably around 5.8 inches.
Ironically, Samsung seems to be following in Apple's footsteps - they've found success with a particular design, so they have no impetus to push it forward, while HTC is designing some pretty amazing things, partly because they've always done that, but mostly because they need to do so.
When I saw the S4, I immediately thought of Samsung's dig at the iPhone 4S in one ad - "If it looks exactly the same as the last model, how will people know I upgraded?"
Plus, with all of that software, I doubt the S4 will get Key Lime Pie in the same year it's released.
Here's hoping for a $99 Note 2 in the near future.
I'll be getting the s4, the s3 has a ton of dev support and I'm sure the s4 will have just as much.

Honestly, no, while I love my Note, I don't like the look of the the S IV or Note 2. I don't like the button and I want something that looks like it's awesome. I've been eying the HTC One quite a bit and as the HTC Hero was my first Android device it seems only fair that I go with them. However I don't want to go down on screen size. I'm not greedy enough for Huweai's (sp?) 6.3 inch screen, but definitely no less than the OG Note's screen. However the final deciding factor for me is how the whole JB thing has paned out. If I'm spending premium $$$ then I want the best for my money's worth, and that means the latest and greatest software. I'm not a mindless consumer that doesn't demand the best bang for my buck. Not only do I demand it, I also put my money where my mouth is.

In not thrilled on the look but im tired of the og note and im sure there will be a ton of Dev support on it like most galaxy phones. I think the ONE is cool looking but I need a phone with removable battery and SD slot. The ONE doesn't have that so that's a no.

I'd have to agree with a couple of the posts above - the button doesn't excite me one bit. At the same time however, the Note isn't starving for power though. I know the Note 2 and S4 have much better hardware, but I just don't need it right now. We'll see what the Note 3 has in store for us, and then I'll go from there. For once though, I don't feel I *need* to upgrade.
I almost hate to say it, but I agree. This is the second time I've been burned by samsung (OG captivate owner) and I think I've learned my lesson here. The S4 does have some nice software features, but it didn't wow me as opposed to the S3 over the S2.
I think i'm waiting for the new Nexus phone or possibly the rumored Moto X phone. No replaceable battery or Micro SD is a deal breaker for me so I'm hoping at least one of the phones above support that though i'm not holding my breath on the nexus.
I love the speed of the JB roms, I just wish we had the drivers to have the roms stable. I gotta say that HTC did a great job with the One, if that thing had SD and removable battery, it would have been a grand slam.
MWC this year should be interesting.
Why don't you guys like the button? I don't mind it at all, to be honest. The super thin bezel is sweet too

If Nexus came out with a larger than 5 inch screen I'd jump right on it. Until something like that happen I'm going to keep on watching who treats their customers right and when it's upgrade time that's who'll get my money. I'm in love with the stylus and the screen size of the Note, but customer loyalty is a big factor when it comes to spending my shekels. You treat me good and I'll spend good money.
As far as why I don't like the button, it just seems old school and takes away from the elegance I want for $200 + device. And as far as the unremovable battery and lack of sd card slot...I can deal with that because you can't even really move apps to the sd card any more. And my N7 is the same way and we get along marvelously. All in all it's a preference thing.

I don't see any reason to upgrade just to have the newest thing. (Think about it SERIOUSLY. The "S" phones are Samsungs fanboy phone really. This is the phone that the AVERAGE user buys just because it's "new"....mostly Iphone converts and people that just want to have the "newest thing" to show off) Honestly, when I saw the s4 I was thinking, "wow, nice Note2 with a faster CPU". I didn't look at EVERYTHING the s4 is offering (software and all) but if I were to upgrade now (I have 4 upgrades I can use anytime I wish), I'd just get the Note 2 and be done with it. After using the OG Note (and the Dell Streak before this phone), I just can't see going to a smaller screen. Like dvdivx said, the Note 3 will be here before we know it and the S4 will look like a kids toy compared to what that phone is going to bring. They can call the S4 the "flagship" all they want but if you have read anything about what the N3 "is going to have" and then look at the specs of the S4 you can see that this phone is nothing but a little brother to the Note3. To me, the S4 release changes a lot of the N3 "rumors" to FACT and because of that, I'm not interested at all in this phone. Not to mention that there will be as many people walking around with the S4 as there are IPhone users. "I have the S4! It's the newest thing"......yeah well, I stopped thinking like that when I walked away from Apple FOREVER.
I'll be holding on to at least 3 of my upgrades though because there are BIG things coming at the end of the year from everything I've been reading. This might just be the year that changes what a smartphone looks and feels like. ( I'm sure there are some of you that know what I'm talking about)

The S4 just isn't bleeding edge. It's just got some upgraded components that all the other phones are getting. Not interested. It would have been an awesome phone a year ago. It's an S3+, but the lemmings that will buy it have no clue.
I'm not eligible for an upgrade until early 2014. I just purchased the s3 on eBay and I'm planning on parting ways with the note 1. Next time I do upgrade, I'll probably go for the s4 or even the note 2 since they will probably be much cheaper by then with a contract extension

Why bother? The US version will probably not have the dual quad, just single quad.. So yes, more CPU than the current S3 but not a big deal. Same ram. Software I couldn't care less about.
Might as well save money on an S3, it's otherwise basically the same phone.
That said, nope. Maybe the Note 3 sometime, unless it's much bigger than it is today. I like my Note 1, but if it gets much bigger I'm not sure it's feasible.
Maybe we'll see

The fact that only the international version will come with the exynos 5 octa core while we'll get the Qualcomm in the US is a disappointment for me, and will be the only reason that as of now I'll say no, not getting it.

I will not get for the s4 either.
I definitely want to wait for the note 3 though. I can't get anything else now that I am used to the note. But, will the note 3 really get that big of a screen?

I myself want to get the note 3, but not so sure, if it will have a 6.3 inch, that's just to big to carry on the front pocket. That is .7 shy of carrying a 7 inch tablet in your pocket.

I'm patiently waiting for the c6806 but now that the galaxy note 3 is being announced and will be out early October , i might just jump ship and buy the note .Waiting for the LTE version is just painfully slow!
Build quality & the display is too small.
In the end the hardware pro's (ram, slightly higher clocking, cam) of the SGN3 are not compensating this for my requirements, as the performance of the XZU is still astonishing and i'm using my phone only for snapshots.
But your case is exactly showing the becalming situation Samsung has - people love to buy it anyway.
i almost bought the c6802 and live with the 3g connection but im pretty sure i'll be banging my head if the LTE version comes out, blaming myself that i should have waited .
LTE to me is the now technology and 3G is just not acceptable in my vocabulary .

Absolutely not.
I've seen the conferences yesterday, and both Sony and Samsung haven't entertained me.
I mean, Sony has great products but tends to lay them out without any heart at all.
On the other end, Samsung has no innovation at all, but from their point of view it seems they're presenting the Holy Grail to the public year after year.
I have an S3, which is a great device, but on the right and on the bottom the "metal" bezel cut itself for no reason at all. It is 1 year old. And I paid FULL PRICE for this. And by full I mean that it costed me almost as much as a 6833.
I don't want Samsung to fill me with bs telling me the SPen is excellent, that the battery is interchangeable, that this, that that. I already know all that.
And i don't give a damn anymore.
ZU is progression, SW2 too, hell even the SBH52 impressed me more than the N3.
I'm gonna get on board with Sony, and whenever I'll see a guy with his Note 3 I'll say "Hey man, nice phone, I hope you're happy with what you got", not feeling envious, not feeling sorry for not buying it.
Because in the end, what YOU feel with your phone matters, not that extra 0.1ghz or that 1gb of ram.
Let's face it, about 1 out of 1000 Note3 or S4 users will root or even use their device to the fullest. The rest of them will simply feel happy that they can update their Facebook status saying 'I have a Note 3! Sweet! ", until they're not happy again when their friends buy something more powerful/stylish/popular.
I prefer being a 1 percenter, with a device that makes me smile, than being a 99 one, with the regret that I could have bought something more.
But hey, that's just my 2 cents.

There are 2 face on that medal you know...
On one face, Samsung hasn't always been keen with developers, not releasing sources and all, BUT thousands of people buy those, and as a result a lot of developers choose the device they develop on based on popularity, and on the fact that developing there would be more of a challenge.
On the other face, Sony has always been open with the developer community, but their popularity has started to grow big not that long ago, so we might have on the ZU the same level of devs there are on the Z.
As a matter of fact, some of them already started (just take a look on the Android development section), and that is even before the LTE version launched.
Let's wait for UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Spain etc. all have this device on their shelves, I have big expectations.

well, after viewing the Note 3 "coming out" party yesterday, I decided I am not interested in it...
I had a note 1, and a Note 2, which was a major upgrade to the note 1.
Fantastic phone, and I was hoping the Note 3 would be a major "upgrade" as well; but, the only upgrades, CPU speed, 3 gigs of Ram, and 13 MP camera isnt going to make the experience on the Note 3 that much better than the note 2.
I've been watching the Xperia Z Ultra since it came out, and, it looks like a fantastic phone; I am a big guy, so the size doesnt scare me, but I am waiting to see which US carriers will be carrying it.
I have owned at least 50 cell phones in my life, but mysteriously, NONE of them have been Sony phones, but I think this will change in the next 30 days.
It doesnt seem like there is alot of development on this phone yet, but, since many note 2 owners feel similiar to me, I am certain that there will be a large groupl that will move to this phone, once some US carriers are announced.
The quality of this phone seems fantastic; not sure if no flash for the camera will affect picture quality, and, hopefully, easy root/bootloader unlocking is just around the corner, since the sound from that tiny speaker appears to be lousy as well, but nothing that ViperMod or a different kernel wont fix!
The main problem SGN2 had and SGN3 as per first hands on, pics and vids also seems to have is, that - even if it is already to small for me as an Note 2 user - they're not making proper use of the screen size with view to UI on stock ROM.
In the end the Note 2 was and is just a sized up Galaxy.
And 2nd market (custom roms) is not a criterion on this topic for me, because if i have to customize the the product from day 1 to meet my needs, then there's something wrong and i'll better wait for the right deal.

Another user on another forum posted that maybe a real change will be seen when all S3s end their contract.
That's true for the S4 (they sold a lot less than what they were expecting), I was expecting it and I didn't fall for that.
That's true for the N3 too, as is a specced up S4 with SPen functions.
It will sell regardless of all this thoughts, but I could bet 1 out of 5 previous N2 owners will buy this N3, and the other 4 will scout around for a better choice or wait for the N4.
That's what I was planning to do skipping the iPhone 4 for the 5 (having the 3G), but Samsung stunned me with the S3 and I jumped ship.
I waited for a big change from the S3 to the S4, but I was ready to wait for the N3 this time.
Sony stunned me since they presented the ZU, I fell in love and that's it.
The only thing that would make me love even more this device would be having a stock-Google Play Edition.
That would be AWESOME.
Last but not least for the fact that we won't need implementation for the SPen, because the screen accept pens and pencils on its own...

Pretty much agree with most posts. I've had the Note & Note 2 (using HTC One now) & the Note 3 doesn't do it for me. I really hate Touchwiz. Everything about it annoys me so I've run custom roms on all my Samsung phones. I don't use the s pen at all either so it just sits there.
I like the direction Sony are heading. I would prefer a smaller bezel but I really like the waterproof design & the minimal additions to Android.
I really don't see why Samsung are the Android leaders...

Advertising, advertising, and advertising. Oh, I forgot about advertising.
They could sell a smart ring for your toe advertising it as the next companion for the summer for getting rid of fungus because it has a 5mpx camera that scans the pavement before you set your foot on it.
Everybody would simply love it.

Definitive answer lol. Fair enough. What will they do in 2 years? They have to go straight to iPhone 11 lol. 9 will never be. Can't believe they pronounced it iPhone 10 lol
Mist definitely!! I mean, I just unboxed my Note 8 literally two hours ago, but i'm such a fanboy, that I just HAVE to have the newest, bestest things in life, even if my current device might be better than the newest bestest one that I'm jumping to. L.O.L.
No way in he*l. I'm never going back to the Apple eco system!
Try as I may, with each yearly unveiling of an Apple phone, I don't see anything that would yank me away from Android. Now I can't say the same for their accessories, because those always look cool and that wide size battery pad looks great, but the phones themselves, eh. Not enough to pull me away from Android. Especially if you compare any of those shown today with the Note8. The stylus on the Note8 is simply the best.

Would be nice. Wish note had upgraded hardware, just would have differentiated it from 6 month old s8! Samsung was lazy this time. Saving money from note 7 problems?
Anyway the benchmark for iPhone x are crazy powerful, but pointless. Current android hardware is powerful enough for anything. Battery technology should be what they concentrate on from now on. And new innovations

Heck even Apple won't tell you battery size. Wtf?
iPhone 7 WOW'd me more than the X...easily the ugliest phone of the year lol. looks like a iPhone 3 with a ugly full screen. every other phone company who decide to go with edge to edge screens made a good looking phone. I would be embarrassed to walk around with that thing on my ear. plus the price tag???????damn
Just seems really silly to all of a sudden decide to switch. If someone was that much on the line about which phone, why even bother pre ordering/buying the Note 8. The iPhone still to this day can't do what I need, its why I buy android. I can appreciate it from a distance but until I can install apps from unknown sources it will always be a no go for me. Lets not forget the pen and everything that goes with that. I dont have to screw with itunes, I can manage my files like a COMPUTER. I need something versatile, not shiny and new. I probably wouldnt have gotten the Note 8 if I didnt get half off the price to own it.
Stupid top bezel, No USB C, Hit and miss Face ID with no other biometric option, crappier screen and more expensive. No thanks. If anyone wants it, they you might wanna shell out £1200 for the 256GB iPhone X as the [email protected] will eat your storage in seconds lmao.
Can't wait for my Note8
I heard that T-Mobile is doing a BOGO offer for the iPhone X, so that comes out to be $500 per phone, which isn't bad, providing one wants to get the X. Personally, I'll stay with my Note8. I really love that thing.
How would one go from the Note8 to that? That's like moving backwards.
I keep seeing these videos on YouTube or other places even from XDA employees. Saying should you buy the Note8 or the S8 or S8+. I know people with the S8 and the S8+ and let me tell you the Note8 is Superior to both of those phones. Number one the build quality and the looks. The Note8 looks and feels like a more premium phone than the S8 and the +. The S8 and especially the + feels like something is missing inside of them. The Note8 is solid. Then the Note8 has a bigger and brighter screen than the S8 and +. Then it just plain looks sexier than those two. Then the Note8 has software the other 2 don't have. Then we go to the Spen that's a point all by itself!!! So these crack pots making these videos are crazy. But everyone has their own opinions. But that does not mean they are right. I love my Note8 would not trade it for a S8 or + for any amount of money.

I was in the same boat as you. Treated myself to Note8 and never looked back. The display is absolutely breathtaking and that in itself is a unique selling point for me. Even though i have been using the phone for almost 2 weeks now, everytime i look at the display, it takes my breath away. S pen is a hit or a miss for me. It's not the practicalities which stop me from using it. More like, i forget it's there ?.
Also, this is my first Android phone which i will not be rooting. Samsung pay has spoilt me.
I've had s8n, s8+ and note 8...ill take the s pen and 6 gb of ram... My. S8+ always got 5.5 hours screen time, note Rarely over 4.5...note for the win

But ive also been very interested in sm-n955f and have been debating on cancelling my pixel xl 2 order and go after a note 8 international f version. theyre priced similarly .
the only thing i want is to have freedom over my device with custom recoveries custom roms substratum with definite root and unlockable bootloader. if the 955f rom development opens up and gets growin thats my queue.

This literally has nothing to do with this thread topic. The OP is questioning why reviewers don't seem to value the key differences between the S8+ and the Note8, which is baffling to us Note8 users.
I agree with you, OP. I wouldn't even buy an S8+. For me right now, if I wasn't allowed to buy this phone, it'd be the Pixel XL 2 or LG V30. Only after those being taken away as options would I consider the S8+. This phone having the RAM boost for unparalleled multi-tasking ability and the s-pen are HUGE differences. If the s-pen was a modular add-on for any phone, I'd always buy it and I'd probably pay $200 for the s-pen abilities. So the gap in price between the S8+ and Note 8 is easily worth it to me.

I hear ya. I was a die hard Nexus user. When they went to pixel it just did not do it for me. I do not like the way the phones look. I will admit the pixel 2 XL does look better. But the Note 8 looks way better to me. I do miss all the development on Googles phones. But as I have gotten older I don't see myself flashing all these roms like I use to. I would like root and a couple of things. But until Google makes another Nexus I will stick with the Note. Nexus to me was like a pro phone. The Pixel looks like they made it for the average Joe. I liked having something special.
I dont see the point in comparing apples with oranges? I see these reviews and most of them baffle me.
There are four superb Samsung Galaxy S8 series mobiles, the 8, 8+ the (forgot the bloomin name) and the Note. All four have there market share, all four serve a given need and they are not comparable.
Identical situation with cars. Merc class C will come in coupe, saloon and cabriolet even more types.... One is not better than the other all are good cars and all will serve their niche in the market.
I have no idea why we see the Note 8 being compared or versed against other mobiles? There is no other mobile like the Note series. Not my fault don't shoot the messenger. We own a particular type, brand and style of mobile that's unique in this marker sector. As for comparing the Note 8 with non Android mobiles such as Windows and IOS it becomes even more absurd.
I find the note range in the past few iterations to be fabulous micro PC's. Incredible devices and those who don't make use of that S-pen are truly missing the point. The S-pen is not the cherry on the top its the cake. :good:

For some reason, people always feel that they have to justify to the public why their phone is better than your phone; I mean who really cares what someone else thinks about your phone, your car, your clothes, what ever; I miss the days when being an individual was more important that being like "everyone else"..

Your last sentence is where we differ. I am unsure how one can write that no mobile is worth 1k€? I know its an awful lot of cash and I know it makes ones eyes water BUT in the case of the Note 8 have you any idea how complex this mobile is to design then produce? The R&D must cost tens of millions alone. Write a list of the accomplishments the Note 8 covers and its incredible.
In way of comparison. in 2000 my Toshiba Satellite 2800-100 lap top cost 1,500.00€. Celeron 650MHz processor. 6GB hard drive. 64Mb sdram ram memory. It weighed about 3kg. In 2000 it was cutting edge technology! 17 years later we have micro engineered a device that is just chalk and cheese in terms of value, cost and tech'.
In 1989 my NEC 11A 'mobile phone' cost £320.00(?) and only made and answered calls and wow was each call expensive. Its relative and accept it or not over the years the technology has developed at break neck pace yet the prices have dropped.
I paid last year for the Note 7 887.00€ (twice, enough on that already). This year I paid 1,020.00€! That's a rise of 133.00€ in 12 months to maintain this cutting edge technology. Does the Note 8 warrant that 133.00€ price increase? I would say without a doubt yes but it is subjective and open to debate. :good:
In theory by 2020 we could be looking to pay for the Note 11 1,500.00€ or more! Goodness knows when this technology will level out and reach a point where totally new technology will reach a plateau? For sure unless the science of battery power changes the next generation of uber mobiles may only function for an hour sans a recharge or be the size of my 1989 NEC 11A!
The Note series started a revolution in the mobile market. I recall when it hit the stores there was hardly a positive review as most reviewers said the device was too big and the trend would never catch on and indeed I DID feel self conscious when using the Note 1 in public. The rest is history.
Now if you truly desire a debate on the value of a device talk Apple. There latest iPhone 8 is a literal disgrace in 'modern technology' and the price -v- value is absurd by any standards. The iPhone 8+ is a better buy but still lags behind the rest yet millions and millions buy them? I suspect just for the brand? That's crazy. :silly:

I think that all those videos or articles about questioning if the note 8 is worth the money it costs over the s8 or v30, etc. Are simply based on the fact that the authors of such videos or articles do not really apreciate what a samsung galaxy note is ! I believe that most of us that love the s pen features and "boxy" body style , will NEVER look back to any other s pen less phone
If the PEN means nothing to you.. get the S8+. me .. I LOVE the PEN!
I had a note 1 and 2, and a 4, then got tired of touch jizz, and moved on to other stuff; got a note 8 after being bored with my mate 9 pro, and realizing the nexus 6 was long in the tooth..
As far as 1000 being too much for a phone, I spent many years in the consumer electronics marketplace, and I know the more the technology matures, the lower costs actually go; not that I expect ANY electronics mfg to lower prices on newer models, although if you look at t he prices of 4k tv's now, versus 3 years ago, you will understand what I mean about costs to produce dropping as time goes by; the reason phone mfgs keep raising prices is to keep consumers thinking their phones have newer and greater stuff in them every year, but, believe me, the cost to mfg these phones either stays stable or goes down over time..
anyways, we all decide what we are willing to pay for stuff, so the market forces dictate what mfgs charge; if people stopped buying apple crapple, they would lower their prices too, since they use the lowest cost labor in the world, and their raw materials are nothing to get excited about; they sell the sizzle, NOT the steak!!
I keep hearing about the Spen? If you don't use the Spen get the S8+? I do use my Spen everyday. But if I did not use it I would still choose the Note8. It's just a better all around phone than the S8+.
I was using an s8 before this and I don't use the spen at all..but trust me ..this is an awesome phone and YES very very much worth it
