[SOLVED][Q] I9100P and cyanogenmod 10.1 advices - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OHello SGS2 users! I'm a sgs+ user and a friend asked me to upgrade his i9100P to latest Android version.. I suggested him to install cyanogenmod 10.1 (he doesn't care about losing NFC).
So, I would like to know which are the bugs/issues of this ROM, and how to install it
Since it's a i9100P, I have to install the i9100 cwm (does it use the same .ops file of i9100?) and then I have to install the cm10.1 of i9100?
Thanks in advance

I'm scared of this superbrick bug.. the phone has android 4.0.4, i have to install a custom recovery (which one? I had a look into the cwm thread, but there's only a recovery based on JB..)
I'm sorry, but I'm really scared of this bug

Forget the 'cwm thread (??)' & forget 4.0.4/the brickbug. Read the first page of the CM10 thread (in Original Development section), follow the instructions. Simple.

Oh, i probably solved it..! I will install PhilZ's cwm6 with his safe kernel trough stock recovery, then i will have the stock kernel (safe) and the cwm6, then i will install the cyanogenmod 10.1. Last question: will stock cwm6 come with cyano and overwrite the PhilZ's one within some OTA updates? Thanks guys!

Yes. You can do it that way as well. When you flash CM10, you'll get whatever version of CWM is currently bundled with it. Yes, it will overwrite the version of CWM you get after you flash PhilZ's kernel, because CWM is baked into the kernel; when you flash CM10 the you'll end up with the CM kernel which will overwrite PhilZ's kernel.
I don't understand what you said about OTA updates.

I mean updating from the phone by CMUpdater, without using any PC.. does it work like this with official builds of cyanogenmod?
Since I have a unsupported device by the cyanogenmod team, I always have to download the ROM on the PC, move it to sdcard and flash manually. (Correct me if I'm wrong, this is the first time I mod a cyanogenmod team-officially supported device)

Don't know if they've managed to get that working for SGS2 (they hadn't when I last used CM in around April last year). Check/ask in the CM10 thread. Even if they haven't, no biggie to DL a nightly & flash it in CWM. I used to do that pretty much every day.

Oh yes, CM updater works all right.
I did use it for some nightlies, then switched to Cyandelta to download new nightlies..
We can also manually download the nightly from get.cm directly into the phone, right?

So I use "i9100P: BVLPC-FTM, XXLPY-TIM" kernel from PhilZ, and then i'm able to make a full wipe on stock ROM in a safe way? After installing Cyanogenmod, shouldn't i be scared anymore (Cyano is 100% safe)?

I said to post if you had problems. Not because you failed to re-read the posts on the first page of this thread.
Forget the brickbug. It only applies to 4.0.4 stock kernels.
You know the process because we discussed it on the first page of this thread. If you're scared/unsure, leave the phone stock.

[Q] HELP (Custom roms, etc...)

Hi, Id like to flash some custom roms (AOKP, PARANDROID,...) but im not sure if i can.
Im new to SGS II and i have few questions, but first my specs:
SGS II (i9100) - not branded. czech i think its XEZ
Stock rom - ICS 4.0.4
ROOOTED via CF kernel v5.6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-19100XWLPU-CL975203
Build number: IMM76D.XWLPU
1) can i flash XWLPU roms only?
2) is it safe to flash any other rom than XWLPU?
3) if i flash some rom, do i have to flash kernel or roms have kernel in themselves
4) can i flash any other ORIGINAL firmware than XWLPU?
Thanks

1) No, you can install whatever ROM you want.
2) Yes, but follow carefully the installing guide to avoid issues
3) Some ROMs have their own kernel, others not, but you can get a look at the index of kernels for the S2 and decide which to install.
4) Yes, but they respond differently to your hardware. XWLPU may work fine, but for example XXLPG may work very bad, but nobody knows that, you have to try.
You are on 4.0.4.
My first and Most important Question!
Are you aware of emmc Superbrick Bug?

now you are 100% safe.
You can now flash whatever ROM whatever custom ROM you want.
First, you need to create a Nandroid backup via CWM recovery.
- boot to CWM recovery
- Backup and restore
- Backup to internal/external SD ( depends on whichever one you prefer)
Backup uses about 500MB - 1.5Gig depending on the size of your apps

ensure him that backup with latest siyah is quite diff from the earlier thing
here it will be all in bits and pieces in a blob folder and cannot be restored in any older version of CWM for sure
hence u can select the backup format method inside the 'backup and restore' once in recovery as tar(default) instead of 'dup'

[Q] Updating 2.3.6 (rooted) to Omega Rom 20.1 or any other 4.1.2 ROM?

Hey guys! My friend has a Galaxy SII. He wants me to update it to a new custom ROM (he said do the Omega ROM latest one). I have rooted that one on 2.3.6 (don't remember the Recovery though). So all I know it that the process isn't as simple as just flashing the ROM (Partition Layouts?)
Anyways, I searched all over I couldn't find a suitable Guide for this procedure. I have attached the "About Phone" page of the Phone. A simple numbered guide by any of u will be highly obliged

If you don't have CWM recovery (assuming you know what it is), you can flash a custom kernel containing cwm or use rom manager, or even use temporary cwm zips.

Please explain more what you are trying to do. Are u talking about official JB update? If yes, u dont need a custom kernel or recovery. U just need Odin.

Ermmmm... Lemme make it easy to do xD
I explain a process and u correct me
1. Install ROM Manager and Flash the Latest CWM Recovery from it (Do a NANDroid Backup ofc).
2. Flash the Custom ROM JB (like Omega 20.1 ROM).
3. Flash a Custom Kernel (Is this mandatory?) e.g. Dorimanx.
4. Enjoy the beauty of life and nature (See what i did there? ).
Oh and do give me ur recommended links u used like ROM, Kernel, Themes etc. (like in ur signature)

Good work! U got it correct. But custom ROMs come with custom kernels and recoveries included. So u don't need to flash another kernel unless u need a different kernel..

[Q] I brought a Galaxy S2 from my friend, Its Updated to Jelly Bean with a Custom ROM

So my Question is -
How can I switch my Galaxy S2 back to its Original Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS 4.0.4) version. I mean Original Stock Version?
I don't want Jelly Bean, or Custom ROM, cuz I don't know the functions very well. I just want to Switch it back to its original form.
I don't even know is the original ROM Backup-ed already.
Please help me.

This is my first Android device. That's why I don't want it bricked. so I need step by step information.
Again I'm saying that I want my Samsung Galaxy S2 back to its original Ice Cream Sand witch form.
I mean I want it to be just like a newly brought Samsung Galaxy S2 from showroom.

Like i said there is a step by step guide in that thread.
Maybe if you can explain what you don't get, then i can help you futher.
After you flashed a samsung stock rom, dail this code *2767*3855# (this will preform a factory reset, everything will lost)
About the firmware: I don't think you have a carrier lock, so just take the newest firmware for your country.

You didn't tell me anything about " How to backup and restore, in case I brick my phone "
And oh yes !!!!!! after flashing I want it to be unrooted.
Actually, my phone is heating up, specially around the camera and upper Samsung logo. Thats why im switching it back to its original version. Maybe this is cause of the heating problem.
And thank you very much.

if you flash the firmware using odin, root will be removed. before you do this activity read more on flashing this will help you avoid bricking your device. after flashing the firmware via odin and if you are stuck in samsung logo, just reboot the device in recovery mode and do factory reset/wipe and then reboot it should be fine.

[Q] Data connection not working properly [Solved]

Hi peeps, recently my phone's data connection is not working properly. I cant seem to send/receive msgs on whatsapp, can search for videos in youtube but cant load the videos, speedtest app able to download but not able to upload. I'd flashed 3 differents ROMs (Neat, RR, Jellybam) and the results are all the same. I'd too flashed dorimanx kernel after each attempt on each ROM and changed the modem but it still doesnt help. I'm currently using rom - Jellybam 7.0, kernel - dorimanx 9.14, modem - XXLS8. Was wondering if anyone can help on this or point in a direction that I can read up on. Thanks!

Edit: oh I forgot to mention that previously on custom roms i dont experience such issues. it only happened recently, without me knowing what i'd done to the phone =/
