I just got an OTA Update for Jelly Beans ROM v12 and now my custom bootup animation is gone. I worked on it for a long time and didn't think to back it up because I didn't think anything would overwrite the /data root section of my phone, but I guess the upgrade deleted my custom one and replaced it with the ROM's...is there a way I can bring it back somehow?
Do you have a nan of build 11 that had your boot animation

Now I'm running a custom ROM with custom recovery. If I ever want to have back the stock/original recovery, what is the possible way? Or should I just flash stock ROM?
You won't be able to replace the stock recovery by flashing over it or anything. That's something in the kernel. Flashing a stock ROM will give you back the recovery though.

Ohh I see. Because before this, I used Galaxy Wonder. The system file is rather differenece with Galaxy S II.
Anyways, thanks for the fast reply. :highfive:
If I take one of the custom kernel zips, and switch out the boot image, do I need to change anything else? For example if I take perseus kernel zip, and just switch out the boot image, will that work? Thanks in advance

No it will not because the stock kernel is not capable of using such features such as Perseus. It's not that simple unfortunately.

Switching out the boot images always worked on htc devices. I just want a flashable stock kernel zip to flash back to if i dont like a custom kernel. I have been enjoying a modded stock rom, and don't want to run a custom rom right now. If it isn't as simple as this, could someone point me in the right direction?

You're saying you want a flashable stock kernel zip? Right? If so, do these VRALL4 and VRALJB kernels work? They are completely stock.
Thank you man, I googled, and dug around for an hour here. This is exactly what I need. Thank you very much. Guess my google foo needs some work.

Okay so yesterday I got stuck in a bootloop updating a 4.3 ROM and had to Odin back to stock and root and install recovery all over. I'm just curious before after I rooted the first time I had the unlock icon on boot now it says Samsung galaxy s4 on boot. Root is working fine along with recovery now but that's different. Is this okay? I used the no wipe tar file factory image if that makes a difference. Thanks
Maybe because your still stock rooted and have not flashed a custom rom yet...

If you're still on HC, its best to upgrade to stock ics first.

That's correct. Stock ICS will give you the correct Bootloader required for the custom ROM you wish to to flash.
Cheers.

Hi
Before, rename your post name. Not correct, use "[PHONE MODEL][PROBLEM TYPE (here Custom ROM)] Freeze on boot.img flashing".
Thanks.

CWM needs ROOT, so flash SuperUser/SuperSU.
Flash CWM
Install the ROM as the OP says

No need to root to either flash CWM or a Custom rom..
just flash CWM via recovery mode and then flash a custom rom via CWM...
thank you,
