Hi all,
I am trying to decide between the 920 and the 8x.
I was just wondering, does the 920 support 42mbps DC-HSPA+ like the galaxy note 2 4g does?.
Or does it just support lte ?.
Please only answer if u are sure of the answer, as I have read loads of different people saying that it does, or it doesn't, so I really need a correct answer.
Thanks
Corey

thanks man! appreciate it.. i know that the atrix have quadband for gsm which supports 900/1800 here in the phils and for the 3G, the band here is 2100, why it wont work? ... and other than updating manually, can i update it via wi-fi?
The 2100 band is the problem. AT&T Atrix doesn't support that band.
I don't think the OTA works using wifi but you can download the stock update using wifi and apply it.
CORRECTION: it does support the 2100 3G frequency. I didn't understand the whole WCDMA vs GSM thing correctly
i have read some old reviews when it is still in Froyo and there are a lot of complaints about the laggy pinch to zoom of Atrix.. how is the pinch to zoom of pictures in Atrix GB?
I have not experienced any problems. The zoom is very responsive
well i just hope someone who bought an unlocked at&t Atrix from the US and used it here in the Philippines would post their experience about the phone. i have read from different sites and forums that they have complaints about Atrix connectivity like wi-fi and bluetooth in different countries.
it's just too bad only few people here in the Philippines use Atrix.
I used my phone in the philippines. I was able to get internet on it. Not sure it was 3g but it was the h+ symbol on both smart and globe. I went to their offices to help set it up. Just remember, most places won't have 3g yet especially those place that don't support smartbro or globe broadband which uses the 3g signal I believe. Just ask for help there.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the same standards around the world. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those complaints.
The issue with GSM coverage is that the phone must support the frequency bands for the local carrier's equipment, and the carrier must support the specific GSM standards (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSUPA, LTE, etc.) that the phone is capable of. The Atrix 4G does indeed support 2100 MHz but as other folks have noted in this thread, the main carriers in the Phils (Smart and Globe) don't support HSPA+.

im quite confused about that 3G thing.. your post was right.. Philippines do not belong to the list of HSUPA networks.. but when I viewed the list of HSDPA networks, Philippines was there.. (i could not share the link for the meantime, 3 more posts needed).. this got me really confused.. im afraid i cannot use internet services by ISP.. maybe wi-fi only..
thank you guys for helping.. i really appreciate it.

I'd be interested to see your link, but if it came from the same site as the one where folks think that wi-fi and BT won't work in the Phils. then again, I wouldn't put much stock in that claim. HSPA upgrades aren't cheap and with 1 Peso per minute calling plans I don't think the carriers there have much of an upgrade budget. (My wife is a Filipina and has had GSM phones here in the states ever since AT&T has been selling them.)

No problem with the questions.
I don't recall if my Atrix had an option for SMS delivery reports prior to me applying the OTA update to GB. I don't see that option now, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. In any event that sounds like a feature of the Android OS (if it actually exists). So if it's lacking (or present ) on other Android phones then I would expect the same for the Atrix.
thanks andy for the informative replies. Im quite relieved now after i have read the previous post by mamoranto.
because i have have had 5 GSM phones from the states which came from different carriers and i have no idea on their specific details (because mostly are gifts), out of the 5 phones only 2 phones are used for "all around, daily purposes" because here in the philippines, texting is the number purpose of a phone. does the Atrix have sent items/messages stored after you send an sms?
sorry for my noobish questions.

Well I stand corrected.
The "Globe Telecom" page on Wikipedia claims both 3G and HSDPA support on their networks. Apparently they've just begun rolling out WiMAX in Metro Manila and points south as well. This page reads like marketing copy, so I assume this info comes straight from Globe.
Dang...wish I was in the Philippines again!
oooppss sorry for the previous post... it was answered.

I think *every* phone in the Phils originally came from the states, LOL. Or at least that's the way with my wife's family. My sis-in-law just got my daughter's barely-used iPhone 3Gs, and my niece there just got my wife's BlackBerry Curve (wife and daughter had to get new iPhone 4).
Are you gonna buy this Atrix new there? You must be rich...
P.S. The Atrix does keep copies of sent and received SMS messages. It shows them in threads/conversations like iPhone, or Chikka.
It uses the Text Messaging app which I think is part of the Android OS. Motorola also throws in their own messaging widget if you want you want to use that.
My dinner break is over and I need to quit this thread for now...

hi guys,am planning to buy a htc amaze unlocked from the u.s for use in india on vodafone.is it possible...what problems will i be facing by using an unlocked phone in india or do i need to root the phone in order to use it...i heard that when we use unlocked phones in india the battery drains faster as it keeps searching for the signal...am a bit of a noob so dont know much about this....also in a previous post someone said that thier sensors werent working...is it bcos of country diff...i really like the phone and my cousin has one and says he can bring it ...so any help on this matter would be hugely appreciated...thanks a lot....
as long as they use GSM, you should be fine. the U.S. Version of Amaze is a pentaband world phone...it should work anywhere in the world...check your band frequencies with the provider and look in www.gsmarena.com under amaze 4g to see if those bands match, just to be on the safe side.
besides that I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to use the phone. You don't have to root.
here are the bands:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 1700 / 2100 or HSDPA 1700 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100

I use it in India and it works fine on BSNL and Vodafone. You don't have to root if you don't want to.
"battery drains faster as it keeps searching for the signal." - this is BS. Of course you can root the phone and get rid of bloat to improve battery life. I get 1.5 to 2 days of battery.
Sensors don't have anyting to do with country.

gang I am really confused about the different model iterations of the Galaxy S3, SIII, S III, for T-Mobile. not for at&t "unlocked" or anything else, just the one sold in the USA for T-Mobile customers... what is a Galaxy S 3 "LTE" ? What is a SGH-T999 ? is there another, earlier model than either of these [if they are diff].
this is all leading somewhere because I still have lots of wifi related bugginess with this one and I'm trying to sort out whether there was a "Galaxy S3" for T-Mobile that was buggier than the rest and whether I got one... but first need to make sure which handset I'm talking about and looking for answers on.
thanks for helping me!

Honestly not sure. This is the GT-i9300 Q&A. This is the 3G international version. There is also the GT-i9305 which is the LTE International version, but we don't really know anything abaout those crazy US S3's that exist. They're completely different to these versions.
Have a look, perhaps there's a dedicated area for the T-mob US device. As per the sticky at the top of this forum, this area is not for US S3's
well, that is what I thought... I used the "type to find device" search engine for Galaxy S III T-Mobile and it points here.
Thank you for trying to help!
much appreciated
There are 2 different us models. The older t999 will run 4g and the newer model has the radio to run 4g LTE. Hope that helped a little. I was just at the T-Mobile store yesterday asking what's the difference between my old model and the new and the data connection is about it. Does your s3 that you have now a T-Mobile phone for sure and does it run 4g or 4g LTE?

Odd. When I do it, it takes me there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1706
Ok fellas, now before I ask my question, I just rant to let you know I've been a member here for quite a while, and the reason I have such a low post count is because I always do my reading before I waste someone's time.
In this case, all the posts I've read are old and outdated, and none of them provide a solid answer.
So my question here is...can the I9300 get H+ or 4g on T-Mobile network now? I've read first that NO the phone doesn't support their 4g band and never will because it lacks the hardware, that I totally understand, just like the cdma gs3 cannot do the same.
Now with that being said, I've also seen threads saying T-Mobile is adding a new band to support their byop program for people with unlocked phones.
All these I had read had old days on them with the most recent one on Feb 2013.
So does anyone have a straight answer for me?
I have a customer that brought me her fried T-Mobile gs3 and basically I kept get LCD A's transplanted it into a spare i9300 that my girlfriend brought me from Hong Kong.
I know the phone doesn't support LTE and that's fine, it's the 4g/H+ I'm concerned about, and if its possible what has to be done? New modem flash? Custom Rom?
Any help or info is greatly appreciated. ^_^

Is there anyone who can answer my query. I bought an unlocked samsung galaxy note 3 sm n900p from eBay India. Everything is working fine but the main thing calls are not working properly.. The other person can't hear my voice 4 out iof 5 times. Signal cuts off all of a sudden to no service and then again gets the signal. What should I do. I tried factory reset, cache partition wipe and what not but nothing worked. Can anyone help.
Any viable suggestion Wil do. I want it to work perfectly in India. I am in love with this phone
I spoke to a smartphone repairer who has great experience about what I am facing about signal strength. I clearly told him that the best networks are not able to hold the strength and signal strength falling from - 89 dbm from 0 dbm at once and gaining again.
He said this is a problem with sm 900p sprint lte model and it's a bad choice on my part. That I made a mistake by buying it. I asked is there any way I can get it repaired and he said it's not a problem in hardware or software but compatibility in India.
Should I just take his word as final or should try better sources?
