Just a few questions. Running Tmobile stock rooted on the I717 is great but makes me a bit nervous as to what i can and can't do with this phone. I am running the UVLG3 with the T879UVLG3 baseband. and just got an update notification. so was wondering.
1. If i update will it brick the phone. tmobile update as that is what the phone id ID'd as.
2. If i do update and all goes well, i am sure root will be gone. Can i just odin recovery image and flash root through that?
3. if there a way to get the phone to not receive the updates on this rom?
4. Since i have the Tmobile modem, can i flash 4.2.2 ATT roms or any other ATT roms or will that cause issues?
Thanks for the help, just want to get rid of the annoying update reminders in the notification bar.

Hey, I am using the Vibrant on AT&T and obviously I won't receive an update OTA. I have it unlocked, and rooted, and the only tweaks I've used are the lockscreen additions, and the gps fix from j12(?) I believe. I've never used ODIN, and I'm not sure I really want to. Using recovery and flashing a zip is my preferred method of choice. Now, my question is, can I download the update from Samsungs support site? Is there a .zip I can flash for the update? Will updating it knock out the root, and the lockscreens I have installed? Is it worth it to update? I would really like to get this GPS working, even with the j12 update, it doesn't lock in hardly at all. Thanks in advance, sorry if this is beating a dead horse, there are a ton of threads, but nothing really specific about a stock update flashable zip
I am a little confused with the note, i see what i believe to be 4 different versions of it.
i have a stock rogers note, what rom can i use, what root method, what recovery, what kernel.
is mine the same as at&t and should just follow anything that is for the at&t version?
i don't see ics coming to rogers any time soon so might as well get it over with and flash ics.
as for warranty, i see a flash count reset tool, will that realy fool them and allow for warranty repair?
and with that tool available, should i care if my flash count goes up with the normal root methods since i can just reset it to 0 later?
Hardware-wise, the Rogers Note is the same as the AT&T Note and the ROMs will work with both. Only thing to keep in mind is that the ICS ROM available us built off the AT&T leak and does not allow access to some Canadian apps.
I would also suggest flashing CWM first, then back up your unmodified stock ROM, radio, and boot image to reflash later if Rogers decided to release ICS. Let me know if you need any help with that.
My phone use to be running stock rooted 4.2. I kept receiving messages about the OTA Update. I was going to take the update because I was having problems with my rooted 4.2, however, my phone would not take the OTA update. I think it was trying to tell me something lol. So i downloaded the official 4.3 file from the Samobile website. I used Odin to flash it to my phone. After doing this my phone has been a huge hunk crap. The thing that annoys me the most is that the vibration feature is not working. So read where people were talking about using Odin to reflash the 4.3 file. My only question is will this brick my phone? I haven't found any definitive posts reassuring me that my phone will work again after doing this. I just know that the 4.3 pretty much has everything on lock down and didn't want to brick my phone by trying to re-install it.
I just received a notice from Verizonwireless that there is a new software update available. So I went ahead and downloaded the update and attempted to install it. After a few seconds a new window opened showing the stupid Android robot laying on its back and the word "error" displayed. Thinking something bogus is going on with my phone I did a factory erase and retried the software update - same results.
Any way to determine what the error is and correct it so I can do the SW update? Out of curiosity I tried using ClockworkMod Rom Manager to install a custom ROM but got the same error indication.
My phone is a Verizon Galaxy S4 with Andriod version 4.3. The baseband version is I545VRUEMK2.
Thanks.

Sounds like your phone has been rooted / modified. This would be why. Samsung + VZW conspire to make it a mess to update officially when you have modded the phone. Just install the update via the PC and Odin. It is more reliable anyway than OTAs. If there is not an official 4.4 Odin version yet, then install the MK2 update that way and then factory reset then take the OTA.
But sounds like you really aren't sure what you are doing because you should NOT be attempting to use ClockWorkMod Rom Manager on a Verizon S4 with that update!! With the whole locked bootloader fiasco, this operation is not permitted as you can only use the SafeStrap recovery system to load custom roms. Really have to read up some more before you get your phone into a situation it might not find it's way out of...

Hi es0tericcha0s - Thanks for pointing out that Rom Manager shouldn't be used on a VZW Galaxy S4. I knew that but totally forgot about that fact.

You're welcome. What you need is here:

Or a 100 other places, but that one came up first.
I also find it best to factory reset after the update for best results.
Hello,
I have a VZW S4 that is currently running 4.4.2 from an OTA update sometime ago.
Prior to that, and the previous OTA update from Verizon to go to Jellybean(I believe) I had root on the device with the unlocked boot. Root was killed when I mistakenly allowed an OTA update to take place. Ever since then, the phone has been running stock roms BUT it has always shown an Unlocked padlock icon at boot. Also, since then, I have given this phone to my GF and her work has now remotely detected the phone as rooted even though it is not. I am assuming the unlocked icon has something to do with it but I do not understand enough to know that for sure.
Now that the device has 4.4.2 and there looks to be a way to restore root, I am wondering if I go through that process of rooting, if I will be able to undo whatever settings that linger that triggered her employer to detect that the phone was at least at one point rooted - is that possible? I.E., Re-root the phone, alter any settings that need to be altered/deleted, then return the phone to a stock unrooted room and bootloader.
Hope I am being clear.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you!
Odin back to stock.
