[q] uuuggggghhhh!!!! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so this is where I'm at.
I decided after having hellybean for a while I would go back to something simple. Bionix v4. I flashed it in odin with the 512 pit file and the bionix tar file selecting repartition. after 5 minutes it was at the recovery screen as it should be according to the instructions. I wiped/factory reseted. and rebooted as per the instructions and then it said it couldn't repartition. Ok. redo previous steps. nope still the same thing. ok go get the uvjfd file and revert it back to stock. ok. and it says it can't wipe data. ok try again. nope same thing. goes to black after stock boot. got it into recovery and MBR Checksum Error, Movinand Checksum Confirmation Fail. put on the overstock kernel. and stuck at overstock banner. ok restart. same thing again. try to get to recovery. yep. wipe user data. ok lets do it again. and same thing. ok lets wipe it completely. odined the whole thing without the pda checked. and bricked. no problem lets get it into download mode. got it!! ok now revert back to stock. and same problem. ok lets get a froyo bootloader. got it, great. odin it in. yep. revert back to stock. worked and still same problem. reading, reading, reading, reading, reading, ok lets odin back to stock without repartition checked and hope magic happens. nope. got into recovery again. deleted all user data and cache data. reboot and black after boot order again. ok one more time lets try Biovix tar file. and now its stuck and the bali logo again. again again. I think I tried it again 5 times throughout this process. I shouldn't have touched my phone.:crying: Good thing I have a spare but that thing isn't recognized by my laptop nor can it get into download mode. but it works. on cm10 so whatever. any help would be appreciated on how to get my vibrant to work, or get the other one into download mode or get it to be recognized by the laptop again

anybody?

Reflash stock jfd and try from therem i had this happen one time. It might take 4 or 5 tries

[Q] Soft bricked...PLEASE HELP!!!

Installed the DoW kernel over Bionix-v and wound up in a boot loop, unable to get into recovery, but I was able to get into download mode. Tried using ODIN to flash back to stock, but it won't boot past the 1st Vibrant splash screen.
The ONLY rom I've been able to boot is Eugene's JK2+2e Froyo ROM, but it's not recognizing both the internal and external storage (shows unavailable). I'm assuming this is due to ODINing with voodoo enabled, so I tried flashing one of SuperCurio's voodoo kernels on top, but that seemed to have no effect.
I've tried using Eugene's Froyo that doesnt brick and then downgrading to stock JFD, but it still refuses to boot, same as if I negated the Froyo step. I'm fairly lost as to what my next step should be besides randomly changing settings, but I dont want to get to a state where I can't enter download mode.
ANY help anyone can provide would be amazing and greatly appreciated, and I can of course provide any additional information that would be helpful.
Odin needs time. Odin is your solution.

Thanks for the response, but could you be more specific? I'm aware that ODIN is the solution, because I'm unable to flash anything in recovery.

Sure. If it was me id download an older odin version. Just try it. Id also go back to stock.
Remember to back up a program to root.
I still use odin 1.3 myself. Works every single time.
Let me know.

Using Odin 1.7 now, I'll try 1.3 and report back on that. The problem is, every time I attempt to revert back to stock (JFD or JI6), the phone refuses to boot, shows Vibrant splashscreen for ~1.5 sec and then shuts off. No boot animations.

Leave it alone for at least 5 to 10 min on splash screen. Sometimes that takes a while.

Would you recommend flashing Eugene's Froyo that does not brick first and then flashing stock on top? Or straight to flash? And should "re-partition" be checked at any point, since the ext4 system needs to be rebuilt to RFS.

No to repartition on my end. But u may want to ask about the ext4 going back to rfs. Ive always done it in cwm honestly.
Someone else with more expirience will have to answer that.
But I have never and read it doesnt need to be done.

+1. If your phone boots at all it's in my experience 100% recoverable. I own a RIFF box as well so if you brick it dead then I can still fix it... . I'll be getting a video up on ODIN usage for Vibrant/i9000 owners tomorrow. Check out my Boot Logo video on my website for a little bit of ODIN usage to give you an idea. You just need to open ODIN. The put the phone in download mode and plug in via USB. Then select your PIT and PDA file and click start. Then you can reflash stock firmware. PM me as I offer this as a service as well.
Thanks for the reply. Usage of ODIN is not my problem, the problem is that flashing to JFD (whether I use Eugene's Froyo 1st or not) results in a failed boot. The phone shows the 1st Vibrant splash screen for ~2 sec and then shuts off. No process I have tried results in a successful stock boot.
Thinking about trying both of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823300
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940671
HOPEFULLY, one of these will let me get into CWM or access the filesystem in order to disable Voodoo.
Once again, if anyone knows of a way to revert EXT4 -> RFS through ADB or download mode, please let me know!
Well I have been working on it for a day straight and no luck. I have talked to several people and the phone has readonly partition now so it is ****ed! Nand death! I called T-Mobile yesterday and told them I have know idea why but my phone won't turn on, blah, blah, blah. So they are going to replace it under warranty and it will be here in a few days.

Hey, thank you so much for posting this up. These are great finds. I'd be more inclined though, to just call Tmobile and get another phone. I'm really tired of messing with the phone. I don't have time to be messing with this anymore.
The fact that I can get into download mode may be good news, but it does nothing for me right now. With what we know about bricking and unbricking phones, I've thrown every trick I know at it already. I hope you get it fixed, but I"m not messing with it anymore.

Yeah man, me too. I'm getting this thing exchanged. It's a paperweight right now. My phone is doing exactly the same thing.
Can you recap one more time? You are only having problems flashing a custom ROM? You said ODIN is not the problem so I'm taking it you could flash back to stock if you wanted to?
Size matters.
Hey, I haven't posted in here before, I've been a member for a while, just never had anything to contribute. So I got the whole soft brick problem. I spent countless hours trying to get into download mode. The size of the usb cable matters, I was using an LG Optimus cord, and my buddy tried his blackberry cord which had much more gerth, and BAM download mode everytime no problem. Maybe this might help some of you out there.
Also I would like to say, thank you for everyones hard work. I had to roll back to stock roms, and just got the Froyo.UVKA7 to work. I love it, it's quick, it's got color in the settings menu. I wanted to cry... Everyone that has ever had anything to do with the developement to make Android better. THANK YOU!
Absolutely,
I am having problems with the phone starting up and loading what I flashed.
I flashed JI5 Ji6, and Eugene's non bricking Froyo Rom
These 3 are the only ones I was able to find that is ODIN flashable
Why you ask?
I cannot get into Recovery, but I can get into Download mode. I can't get into any recovery at all. NOTHING. This is why ODIN seems to be my only option.
But regardless of any ROM i flash, my phone shuts off right after the Vibrant screen. No splash screen, no loading, no booting. .Nothing. It just shuts off.
I can't charge it either.
i get a Charging bootloop. HOurglass - battery shows up for a bit, then restarts over and over.
So in other words. it's ****ed.
Hope that explains it sufficiently. if you have any more questions or suggestions, Im open man, Im open.
Help me

Problem with T959 after ODIN

I ODIN'd my T959 last night and everything went fine. But now during boot I get the GT-I9000 splash screen... although the phone is listed in the About section as a T959. Worse, I no longer have the green or red recovery, it's blue (even after rooting). I can no longer get to recovery using the 3-button method, I had to root the phone and install ROM Manager in order to get to blue recovery.
I tried using AIO Vibrant Toolbox and still I'm having the same issue.
Any suggestion as to how I can fix this?
Next time you odin back stock, use http://www.multiupload.com/HRYJKFLKFQ instead of the original JFD file. You can probably use this now to get the Vibrant splash back anyway. Just odin like you normally would. And you're supposed to reinstall packages again...Odin resets your recovery.
Since you flashed the GB bootloader, the combos change.
vol up + power=download mode
vol down + power=recovery
read the op next time
Agreed. Reinstall packages in recovery. Sometimes reflash recovery with ROM manager and try again then in recovery choose reboot in recovery. Good luck!

BTW... I read the OP, I assure you. Perhaps I didn't understand it, and that's obvious. But I read the OP. Whenever I flash a ROM I read the entire thread beforehand. I'm still very much a danger to myself and my phone.
laylovj - that did the trick. The splash is back and more importantly, I have data again. I installed SH 3.8 Revolution and it's running great.
Thanks again.

[Q] Bootup loop

I have been having this problem even after doing everything correctly:
I wanted to try this ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195912
So I went back to stock using the ODIN files from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Then used the GB bootloaders from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
Installed CMW recovery. Once done, I used the zip to install the rom.
Now the phone boots up, goes to the bullet screen after sometime boots up again. Any idea guys?
go back into cwm and wipe data/fact reset
wipe cache
reboot system now
While in your bootloop get back into recovery and reflash the rom (I had to do this on Miui and Simply Honey when I first installed them)
why would they do that though? ^^^

Tried both the methods. Nothing seems to work.
I tried disabling vodoo and re-flash. The problem I have then is it just loops. When vodoo is enabled it goes to data parition not enough space issue.
Any help anyone?
Did you wipe date/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik before flashing rom then wipe cache and dalvik and fix permissions before rebooting?
EDIT: Also I would backup everything on your SD cards. I got that not enough space on partition before and it ended up wiping my sd cards.
Sent from my GingerZen Vibrant using XDA Premium App
yes I did. Well looks like vodoo lagfix did its number on me. The internal data has been cleaned up , I am having MBR checksum errors and still doesn't work.
Also you can try this instead of odining back to jfd stock. It's worked really well for me when I've had major problems. Cleans everything up really good.

I have posted about it in several threads, including my own, so I figured I would finally put it in a central location. This is my FTDNB method for starting with a fresh, clean phone, without any ghosts of roms past popping up to cause you issues.
Download this first, and flash through Odin with your standard 512 pit file
http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=8
Then when it reboots to the recovery screen, pull your battery, reinsert it and boot up to dl mode, and flash the following, with your same pit file, and selecting repartition in Odin this second flash only:
http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=3
The first link there is Eugene's Froyo That Does Not Brick, but it doesnt work that well as a driver. As an eraser its great though! The second link is the Froyo JK2 leak, with fixed recovery and already rooted. If the first one didnt, the second flash will definitely put you back on Froyo bootloaders.
Thats my whole secret to keeping a clean phone and wiping out any ghosts. You can proceed from there in your desired direction (back to ZD or GZ preferrably) in a safe manner. Its always worked for me to clear up any oddness, and literally takes 15 minutes tops once you have the files downloaded.[/QUOTE]

Vibrant stuck at boot logo.

Hi guys. I rarely come for help here but well...here I am.
Alright, the problem is a friend of mine did a factory reset(I think) to his while running a custom rom with lagfix. Now the phone got stuck at the vibrant logo. I got the phone, started odin, and tried to flash it back to stock(Froyo) but still have the same problem. If I'm not mistaken, He was running a gingerbread ROM. Is the problem the bootloader?
Here's the screens I'm getting:
After flashing with ODIN, notice it says "failed" on some of the lines on the recovery:
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/3109/img20110909232229.jpg
Also fails on the data wipe:
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/4489/img20110909232234.jpg
Uhh ohhh!
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/5224/img20110909232453.jpg
Tried flashing back to stock JFD (2.1)? That usually fixes anything for me... I don't think GB bootloaders would do that?
Locate my GingerZen thread in the Development section, in the second post, follow the FTDNB steps I posted, and breathe some life back into that thing.
Sent from my ZenDroid, meditating on the XDA App
ALright guys thanks! Will try this when I get some time next week. Will let you know if it revived!
I'll release a heimdall-one click for Vibrant soon enough. This will totally reset your device. Wait until tonight, I'll likely have it online.
Perfect! thanks man!
You would think the .pit and .tar flash in ODIN would fix the problem. Of course you'd lose all memory in the phone and external SD card.
Those guys are smarter anyways

[Q] CM7 boot loop!

Hi all
I'm not new to flashing but I'm new to flashing cm7.
I odin back to stock jfd eclair. Root and Install CWM 2.xxx. I downloaded the stable cm7 and I started flashing. (after I wipe data/cache of course)
IN recovery, it said finding package, opening package, then my phone processed a series of lines and reboot automatically. On the startup, it says VIBRANT SAMSUNG, then GALAXY S CYANOGEN(mod) then the same recovery screen with many lines. It moved too fast into another reboot I couldn't read what was on the screen. And it kept doing this for quite 10 mins now.
Is it normal? if not, what did I do wrong? I can get into download mode and odin back to stock but I did it last night and I couldn't think what i did wrong.
Please help!
Hmmmm..... seems a bit wierd, try going into recovery and wiping and reinstalling with a new download.

This happened to me also, I went directly back to recovery, 3 button, and reflashed. Worked the second flash for some reason.
Thanks. I turn it off, get into recovery again, and re flash it successfully
Same exact thing happened. I have no idea how many time I odened back to stock trying to figure it out.
I did as you guys said, as soon as that loop began, pulled the battery and got back into recovery. flashed again and worked just fine!
same thing happened to me...i got back into recovery...i noticed cwm updated to 5.0.2.8 then i reflashed and all good...when i tried to flash at first. cwm was 2.5 ..maybe thats the issued it wont flash on that...has to be cwm 5.0
