Hello,I need your advice on this, I am planning to finally hspl my titan unbranded eu version , i am currently at stock mango 7.5 and I would like to upgrade to 7.8, before doing that upgrading procedure I need to clarify some issues...
First question is... regarding backing up all my text messages... I know in windows 8 finally microsoft add the posibility to do so, is that backup option also available in 7.8 Windows phones?? If this is the case then what makes sense in order to keep those text messages is to do an official upgrade to 7.8 and then ...... hspl! But then a second question comes in...Is it possible to do a hspl as we can do by now witn 7.5 mango on a 7.8 phone with official rom?
Thanks in advance!

First of all - HSPL is roughly speaking just a custom bootloader. And it absolutely does not give a $hit about your current system type (7.0; 7,5 or 7.8). So if you are planning to update your phone officially to 7.8 - you may do it w/o hspl-ing your device. Also - if you plan to update to 7.8 and to continue using official rom - than you don't need any HSPL.
HSPL allows to flash custom (that means UNSIGNED by the vendor) roms. That's it. HSPL does not allow any operations with official rom - no access to file system or registry, no easy sideloading etc.
Concerning your question about backing up SMS - 7.8 official rom has no benefits comparing mango builds. So - updating before flashing HSPL is the same useless thing as updating after HSPL.
You can make real backups only on custom roms.

Thank you so much AndrewSh for your kind and so quick answer, sorry for not being as clear as you did regarding HSPL, of course my final goal is instaling custom roms to do more than the official roms can do, as I did with my old win 6.1 mobile device.. Well it's pretty clear now that I will have to loose those sms if I want to install custom roms, since there is not even the possibility of backing them up with the official rom 7.8! So...the latter I will install custom rom the more messages I will loose! Strange since it seems Windows phone 8 has this feature already!
Well at least once I have my phone with a custom rom It would be possible to backup everything as we did with windows mobile 6.5!
Thanks for you time, and info!! very helpfull
Is there any rom with latest 7.8 you can suggest to me? Tried to find yours but I haven't found it!

Actually I don't cook roms for public. Because I have some special personal preferences and priorities, which I implement to my roms. Besides - I hate to cook multilingual roms because I hate to waste my phone's memory with useless stuff. As a member of dev team I would offer Dynamics rom. But the new updated version is not ready yet. So to flash existing public version is useless because ultrashot will release the new one soon.
If you use English as a native - I can offer you my private rom to try (my rom is 0409 only). Also I use radio version 16 - more stable and faster working for me. Radio version is important thing when choosing the custom rom to flash. Because OEM parts of roms are dependent on radio version flashed.
So before I can help you to make a decision what to choose - I must know more about your phone:
1. What stock mango version is on your phone?
2. What radio version is currently on?
3. What is your preferred system lang?

Wow thanks AndrewSh ! Thanks for your offer, my native language is spanish, but english is a almost second nature to me, so no problem for the language!
Answering your question
1. 7.10.8773.98
2. 17.5006.08.27_17.08.50.06U
3. Spanish will be great, but English is not a problem for me, but I will need the spanish keyboard since there are letter like our "ñ" that are only available in our keyboard, and is very common use!
Of course other option is wait and install ultrashot's update when it is ready!
And I agree with you, radio is really important since I have been suffering some issues with voice quality, sometimes people says to me my voice sound as if I were speaking from really far away, and this is happening specially if I hold the phone in a very specific way..I have ordered a silicon cover to help avoiding my hand acting as another antenna in contact with the metal cover of the pone in order to solve this..but maybe radio 1.16 will be better!! who knows! No wifi, or bluetooth problems with actual radio soft.
thanks for your time AndrewSh!!

Yes, there is newer official ROM, you can find it directly on HTC site.
Or you can try any custom ROM - there are lots of them, you just need to try (or do some reading first which one suits you best (they differ from very clean to "fully loaded" with tons of software, also some have "stock" look, some are fully customized).
Don't forget in case you choose to try custom ROM - first you need to update your SPL to some version of HSPL (exact version is not important, you may flash latest 2.08.HSPL directly), then you need to flash Radio (look which versions are recommended by the chief of the ROM you choose to update) and only then flash ROM itself.
I just picked one of these up for a great deal $130. For the price it is not a bad tablet at all.
Decent screen size and brightness, speed is not bad, it runs Gingerbread (2.3.1), and has an SD-Card slot.
Anyhow, I have managed to get the Amazon App Store installed which is nice, however, the stock ROM DOES NOT have the Android Marketplace installed. Also, on my Nexus One I use the stock News & Weather App and Widget religiously and I would love to be able to run this on the Nextbook 7.
I have read lots of posts on XDA covering the Next3 and have seen custom ROMs and even people that have installed the News & Weather App so I know theoretically it is possible to do, at least with the little brother of the Next7.
So my question is, does anyone have any information or links regarding either getting a custom ROM installed, getting the Android Marketplace installed, or getting the stock News & Weather Widget/App installed on this device. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
My father has cancer and I bought this device specifically for him to use as he does not have much motivation to leave the house these days. He has a Droid 1 and loves the News & Weather widget as well so it would be great if I could at least get that to run. I have put the APK on the device and actually gotten it to install, but whenever I run the app it Force Quits with an error.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can shed some light on my issues.

I have a Next6 and am trying to get a custom ROM for it. Any chance you could pull the ROM off your Next7?

hey try that new zerRush root method!
One click roots etc will not work on nextbook 7 Premium due to the system being cramfs. Cramfs is read only, to make changes you have to de-compress the file system, make your changes to system.img (or what ever .img file you want to change..) and re compress it. Then flash the device with the new update.img

Ok, my step dad owns a Next7S...I personally HATE it!! I want to get google play on it somehow. Anyone able to get adb/root??? Windows and Linux both will not find the device via adb. Yes I have debugging on, I'm not a noob. I don't know how to dump the software though at all. But if you give me some useful instructions how to, I can do it. I saw a way to get adb on the Next7P. That doesn't work on this Next7S. Serial Number: YF0312959XX
[RANT]All I want is Google Play.......what idiotic company sells androids without the main market??? SMH!!!
At first when I messed with it, I thought it was CM9 without gapps.....this feels just like CM9 without gapps. This tab isn't worth anything without gapps working.[/RANT]
hi guys..
is there any hard reset method for this device..?

I just purchased a new (but 2011 model) Samsung Stratosphere SCH-I405 cell phone from ebay.com.

As soon as I got it and set it up there was a notification of an available update. I let the update proceed and when I logged back in I checked the Android version 2.3.6. I have had the phone for about a week now and haven't got any other OTA updates.
Is 2.3.6 the highest Android version my phone will ever get (through an OTA update)? Do older phones not get the latest Android updates and if so why? Is it because Verizon (my carrier) has decided to not update my phone as an incentive to buy a newer one? Or is it something like a hardware compatibility issue?
If I am never going to get a higher version by an OTA is the some other way I can update my Android version? Perhaps go to Samsung or Verizon's website and download an update.zip file? If this option is not available is the only other option I have is to root my phone and install a custom ROM? Or can I root my phone, find a higher Android update.zip file somewhere, and update the phone that way? (I guess I would have to make sure that, if I updated using the update.zip method, that my phone is compatible with whatever Android version I am installing.
Thank you,
Jan
P.S. I used the entry called Firmware Version in the About phone page to determine the Android version . I don't know if Firmware Version really is the same as the Android version but there wasn't an entry called Android Version (like there is on my other Android devices which are all running version 4.4.4).
I assume either Samsung decided not show Android Version in the About phone page or if it's due to the fact that my Android version is so old?

You're out of luck with any official updates. Back in 2011, neither Samsung nor Verizon were really insistent about keeping their phones up to date. Add to it that the phone has a physical keyboard (meaning more of a pain to add that functionality to updates since most phones do not have this) and less of a demand from early Android adopters and the fact that the phone wasn't popular in the first place means that it didn't make much sense to put the time and effort into keeping the phone going. Also, about the time ICS came out, they were releasing the Stratosphere 2... So yea, that's pretty much it. Due to it's lack of popularity, this also means not as many people who are interested in developing custom software updates owned the phone and not as much work done in customizing and updating either. It seems your only options are other customized 2.3.6 versions that have been tweaked to be slimmer, faster, and/or maybe some UI changes, but nothing beyond 2.3.6. You can find some more info @ rootzwiki since they don't have a forum here on XDA for it (see reasons listed above for why...)

Oh well. I guess it's not that big of a deal. I purchased the phone on Ebay.com for my elderly mother to use. I am sure she won't "max" out the system and she probably won't need any features that might be missing from an older version of Android. I am setting up the phone so that everything is very easy to use (I found a launcher for senior citizens called Big Launcher) that changes the interface to simple screens with big buttons. So I guess I really don't need a newer version of android or a custom ROM.
I do have one other question though. You know all those default apps that come pre installed on Android like Let's Golf, etc? Is there any way I can uninstall those and "trim" down the phone so that there are no unnecessary programs running and slowing down the system? Would I need to have root access to do so? Or is a superuser even restricted from uninstalling these core apps?
Thank you.

For that kind of stuff, on the older updates, you would need to root the device. Unfortunately, it's a bit more of a pain to the average rooting novice than some...

IMPORTANT:
-First of all, the ROM has been tested on the T1-A21W (Wi-Fi variant), not on the T1-A21L (LTE variant). If you own the LTE variant, which i repeat has not been tested on it, i higthly recommend you to take a backup of your ROM and take the proper precautions. If you installed it on the LTE variant please let me know about your feedback and any other bug not described below.
- The ROM still need some big things to solve like the camera and the Play Store issue, so i would only recommend you to install the ROM if you do not mind to have the mentioned bugs.
Gapps:
- OpenGApps.org
Select ARM and 4.4. I recomend you to choose the Pico variant.
Requirements:
-T1-A21L or T1-A21W device
-Unlocked bootloader
-A custom recovery: Philz Touch Recovery
- Take backup of your EFS & IMEI and keep it safe (Require root/Optional and Hightly recommended): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.efs
- Take precautions
FAQ:
Q: Is this Android 5.X, 6.X, 7,X or 12.X??
A: No, it is based on Kit Kat (4.4.4).
Q: Why Android Kit Kat?
A: It is easy to port and i am not currently able to make the kernel source work in order to get a more upgraded Android version.
Q: Can you implement X, Y or Z feature, mod or app?
A: Nope.
Q: Does it have any bug?:
A: Mentioned below.
Bugs:
This may vary on next builds, if i continue supporting the ROM.
- Camera not working.
- Light sensor not working.
- CarbonROM personalization menu disappears on some specific conditions. To solve it go back and enter again.
- After installing any gapps package Play Store does not connect. Seems to be an issue related to the framework. This issue may desappear to you, for some strange reason, after 1 day.
- "Perfomance" menu crashes as it is not adapted for our devices.
- Maybe something else i forgot.

Good news bro. I find that t1-a21l is the same model as its Chinese variant t1-a23l, whose OTA EMUI3.1 ( android 5.0) has been available. You shall download and install its 4.4 rom from Chinese Huawei site and see if you can upgrade through OTA.
BTW, I have tested your rom on my LTE variant, and it works just fine!
Again, thanks for your work!

great job
hello mustang...Good job on this..you have actually given the opportunity to the likes of us who loves tech but don't always have the resources and needs to meet up our curiosity...i have actually installed the Carbon Rom for the t1-a21l LTE ..and its actually quite good.......except i have been trying to root it or say trying to install supersu but not successful, still trying it tho...like you said camera isn't working.trying to work my way around it thou...no pre installed music player also its a tab/pad hands-free/speaker mode shouldn't be an option only if you are using an earpiece device or headphone.i think charging is slow, still observing it..certain apps freezes and stops......but overall great job.....looking forward to an update fixing the bugs soon.............thanks bro...big ups to you and know your work is appreciated from afar.

hello mustang...Good job on this..you have actually given the opportunity to the likes of us who loves tech but don't always have the resources and needs to meet up our curiosity...i have actually installed the Carbon Rom for the t1-a21l LTE ..and its actually quite good.......except i have been trying to root it or say trying to install supersu but not successful, still trying it tho...like you said camera isn't working.trying to work my way around it thou...no pre installed music player also its a tab/pad hands-free/speaker mode shouldn't be an option only if you are using an earpiece device or headphone.i think charging is slow, still observing it..certain apps freezes and stops......but overall great job.....looking forward to an update fixing the bugs soon.............thanks bro...big ups to you and know your work is appreciated from afar.

Hi, thank you for your words. The charging speed is the stock one as we use the stock kernel and i don't think i will work on this rom anymore for the simple reason that i have a completely stable Lollipop (EMUI 3.1) rom, so i can use it as base to try to port other Lollipop roms

Did you take a backup? If so it should be available on the sd card or internal memory and you should be able to access through the restore menu from the recovery.
Anyway, you can flash the flashable stock rom from my thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-mediapad/development/rom-emui-3-0-light-mediapad-t1-10-t3609602

Hi Mustang.
I'm currently running your Carbon ROM 4.4 but I would like to use the tablet T1-A21L for my son and Google's Family Link can only run on Android 5+ (Lollipop).
Since you said you managed to run a stable EMUI 3.1 (Android 5 Lollipop) for the device, could you share the steps you would have taken.
I looked for the Stock EMUI for <t1-a23l> in FirmwareFinder as it was mentionned that OTA to EMUI 3.1 eexisted for this compatiblee hardware.
However I cannot find it.
Any chance to explain how yo got Lollipop to run on this device ?
Thanks.

Hello, sorry for the late reply.
Check this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82458167&postcount=50
About the "completely working EMUI 3.1 ROM" (twrp flashable): It was indeed a working build but there was some issues for the installation that i needed to solve that whether didnt allow to install it correctly or it didnt boot, to solve this i personally had to make some workaround. I didnt realease it as it was not ready for public usage and never found a way to fix the installation issue.

I've owned various Android devices since my first Cupcake phone. Every time I get a new device, one of the first things I do is to come here to see how the development is going. I've never got a new phone that had the forums soo empty. I don't know if it's just too soon or if this particular phone will never become a model loved by our friends that use to give us the best custom experience in this forums. What do you think?
I have the same opinion.
We're on the same boat.

Same opinion, even from the official developers, this device is stuck on MIUI 10.2 stable both china and global since it came out, MIUI 10.4 stable its already out for some devices like the Mi 6 and we're on MIUI 10.5 over the beta...
Huh, even today we had another update on the PE rom?

That ROM is really promising, but taking my experience with another devices, at this time we'd be here with plenty of ROMs, Kernels and mods. I think the device will never be a good phone for customization just because, for some reason, it couldn't be attractive enough for the developers. Maybe it's this boring waiting time to unlock the bootloader... I don't know...

My thoughts exactly. Checking the Forums what I should flash, during the unlock waiting time (also an unusually thing), I got some doubt If I should even bother with this device.
But after 2 weeks of using it with Revolution OS I am pretty happy with the experience. Even though this heavy MIUI menu customizations need some time to sink in.
I hope they will keep up the support and that xiaomi gets in the game finally and releases some fixes.
I have got the impression many snapdragon 855 devices are struggling with custom rom and dev support. I hope Android Q gets native in-display fingerprint support which could help with many custom rom problems on this newer devices.
It doesn't have OnePlus printed on the phone... otherwise we'd have 20 ROMs 15 Kennels and an official twrp.
Seems Devs are moving away from XDA and posting elsewhere..

Well, if you are looking for a custom ROM, there are are few such as PE.
BUT: I personally have used custom ROMs on every device I have owned, EXCEPT for my Mi9!
REASON: Custom ROMs will break useful functions of the device such as the AI-button and Fingerprint.
I love the MIUI ROM the way it is, it has many functions that are missing in vanilla Android.
For those who say, it is too complicated: You are either too lazy or don't want to learn new stuff - or both.
ROOT:
And I absolutely refuse to use a device that I can't root in order to De-Bloat and Firewall it, etc...
So here my instructions for successfully root. Please DON'T ask about other ROMs or other ways to root!
I have failed with many other intructions and I found what works perfectly for me, as it should for you as well.
HOW TO ROOT MI9 SUCCESSFULLY
ATTENTION:
If your device comes new out of the box, the bootloader needs to be unlocked.

Use this tool: https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html

You do need to connect your Mi9 to your MI account and you need to wait for the Flash Tool to work after the waiting period.

But you must first initiate the wait count by using the flash tool.
If flashing bricked device with Mi-FlashTool, the Bootloader becomes locked again and needs to be unlocked.

If your the waiting period is over, this goes instantly.
Install the CORRECT TWRP via “fastboot flash recovery twrp-new.img” then install the latest Stable GLOBAL ROM from here:
http://en.miui.com/download-361.html
Without installing anything else, set-up the system!

Do NOT USE the option to restore your apps (since another wipe is necessary after rooting).

There is also no need to login to Play-Store or MI-Sync.

I don’t use Mi-Sync nor any other MI-Apps at all!!!
Enable Developer Options, then USB-Debugging and Unknown-Sources.
Check unlock status of MI Account in Dev-Options, add account.
Without installing anything else, set-up the system, YES – AGAIN since BL was locked.
Install Mi9 specific TWRP 3.2.3 from Mauronofrio from here.
[RECOVERY][3.3.1-35][cepheus]Unofficial TWRP for Xiaomi Mi 9 (Stable) or newer:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/Mi-9/development/recovery-unofficial-twrp-xiaomi-mi-9-t3905825
After flashing TWRP, press volume up and power together and hold both until the phone reboots, let go of power after it vibrates but keep holding Vol up until it boots again to TWRP. That way it'll stick.
Install latest MAGISK from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Update Magisk in Magisk Manager if necessary and Configure in Settings SU to always allow if you don’t like to have the danger of missing a SU-Request.

You might keep the notifications on for a while to see that it works.
Install Busybox and verify that it stays installed, if not change settings.

The Busybox from Jared Rummler JRummy Apps should stick if installed into /system/xbin/ or try another location.

I had trouble having the version from Stephen (Stericson) stick.
To check if rooting was successfully, I suggest Advanced Root Checker:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anu.developers3k.rootchecker&hl=de
If you want to block Ads, install ADAWAY manually since it is not in the Store.
AND PLAESE REMEMBER:
I will be glad to help with my method!
DO NOT ASK ABOUT OTHER METHODS!
Why: I spent much time to make this work while other methods terribly failed.
Thanks
Robert

But.. we have PE, CrDroid, Viper, Lineage already lol
Once we get build vendor I'm sure even more build bots will come, I wonder where you see the problems related to this device.
Just wait lol. There arn't many devices (if any) with snapdragon 855 and bug free custom ROMs yet.

Exactly this. Being on the technology's bleeding edge means not many users will have it already. To be honest, I'm more than happy with what we currently have, a fully working stable TWRP, Miui is actually quite good, and I had a lot of fear it wouldn't be, as this is my first Xiaomi device, Floko, PixelExperience, LineageOS, crdroid, viperOS and all this for a very recent SoC used in few devices.
Honestly, I'm not concerned at all.
Custom kernels? Who needs them when you have LTK on magisk.

Lkt you mean, is just a root mod.

Thanks

Yeah, you're right, I just hope this device gets more attention from the kernel devs. There's where the real improvements can be done I guess.
And EVEN IF we end up not getting much more out of the device from devs, I personally think that you don't necessarily need other custom roms anymore, because we already have so many tweaking possibilites.
With MIUI based custom roms (like ROS i'm currently on, or Xiaomi.eu) you get your phone debloated + a few tweaks already out of the box.
After switching to ROS, it felt better but still missed some little tweaks you often get in AOSP based Roms, like switching to next / previous track when screen is off by long pressing volume buttons, or double tap on status bar to sleep. So I found out about CustoMIUIzer, which brings all of that + more.
At last I wanted a little bit more color / theme customization, so I played around with the Themes app. At first I thought the themes will not change much, or that there are only ugly ones out there, but actually if you take your time and scroll through them you'll actually find some gems, and they're free ! (not like on Huawei's Themes App I previously had a bad experience with on my old P10). I recommend the user "peywizart", he has some good ones.
And you can combine them, like take the lockscreen of one theme, the icons of the other, the status bar of another, which can already get you a nice looking UI.
But eventually, I ended up wanting to stay with the stock theme and changing the colors myself. So I found out (yesterday actually, on the CustoMIUIzer thread, thanks user kaizer hanz !) that Swift Installer works quite well with MIUI. I actually bought the app, because I think paying 2 bucks for cross overlay customization (I will be able to use it on any phone / overlay later) is really not bad.
I agree that it would be better if other roms came out that are maybe better optimised, and have all these customizations out of the box, but I think we already have pretty good dev support and possibilities with this phone for now. And until we get a bugfree AOSP experience for our device, I guess I'll stick with my current setup and dream about my good old memories of AOKP on my Nexus 4
So now I'm here, with a snappy, stable phone, with all camera features and fingerprint working, decent battery life, and customized to my likings. Check my signature and screenshots to see what I'm running with links.
Cheers !

No magisk hide, it stops magisk hiding root from gpay or any other apps you've whitelisted.
CTS profile remains intact.
What happened with that developer whom local users donated money for Mi9 and who should deliver stable Lineage?
