After I rooted my UK S2, I found 3 things have stopped working:
1. Bluetooth
2. Voice control (causes the phone to freeze for about 8 seconds)
3. The home button (now does nothing)
I attempted to install (correct term?) android 4.2.2 and seemed to all go well, however, when I had finished flashing it, the phone booted, with the new startup screen, which just stayed there for 30 minutes. So I had to restore the phone to a backup from months ago.
The 3 broken things still don't work.
Help...
Tell me how u rooted, on which firmware u are now, which rom did u flash (correct term)?
U have the I9100 right?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"

Yes I have a I9100 - UK version.
How rooted: I used Odin3v185 and the cable, connected to my Windows 7 PC..
The first file I used to root:
"CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar " - this failed. So I used
"Siyah-s2-v6.0b4.tar" - which worked.
My current "about phone" screen screenshot attached as an image. I am back on 4.0.4 as I restored a backup (with CWM) to get my phone to even start. But the other problems from my OP still exist.

Which rom I flashed might be a moot point, because I am pretty sure I had these problems since I rooted the phone.
I am also not sure how to find which rom is on my phone. I assume the info in the screenshot is helpful, if not I will follow any instructions.
Hope someone can help. Thank you so much...
PS. One thing. I just remembered, before flashing the new rom, I backed up all the phone and SD card files to my PC HD, and then wiped both SD card and the phone memory.
You have 4.0.4 now, with Siyah v6 (according to your screen shot). That kernel should be ur problem.
Siyah v6 is for 4.1.2 JB ROMs.
Please flash Siyah v5.0.1 and see if the issues persist.
A word of advice:
Avoid doing factory reset or restoring nandroid backup while you're on 4.0.4. You're safe with the Siyah kernel, but I wouldn't take my chances with the eMMC Brickbug.

For your information, rooting is not responsible for this. Its the kernel u used to root that is responsible.

That is known as a 'bootloop'. It is quite common when upgrading from ICS to JB. A simple factory reset would have solved that bootloop.

I suggest you move far away from ICS 4.0.4. You can either upgrade to JB 4.1.2, or use ICS 4.0.3.

Just check the Build Version to see which rom u currently have.
In ur case, u have XWLPT build, which is the stock 4.0.4 rom.

All these rom version numbers are a bit of a headache.
Where should I get the roms from? Is there a site with a list of the roms?
Edit:
I got the Siyah v5.0.1 kernel here

Took 2 minutes to solve the problem.

I agree.
I just flashed Siyah v5.0.1 - It fixed the problem. I don't know how or why. Can you please explain?
Also, it didn't delete anything off the phone. But whatever I did before, deleted everything from my phone.

Anyway who cares about that, the main thing for now is I want to get Jellybean onto my handset. What zip file should I get that will not cause my phone problems?
Its up to u mate wot u wnt if u wnt stock (4.1.2) its few out there like wanam, neat rom etc. or if u wnt cm10.1 (4.2.2) i prefer rootbox but u have to just read and make decision.
Best wot u can do before u flash rom download "rom nuke script" it will format all old rubish then u can flash. With stock i think u just download zip and flash a with cm 1st flash rom 2nd gapps and enjoy . but before that read read read good luck mate

You start with a clean slate. No probability of errors due to old junk. Simple.
In my opinion, since u have 4.0.4, I would avoid that just to be extra safe.

Again simple explanation:
Kernels control the hardware like bluetooth, wifi etc. They are different for different android versions. You used a kernel for Jellybean and so some hardware functionality was lost.
Flashing a kernel means replacing the previous kernel code with a new one. So it doesn't delete anything from ur phone.

Like stopro said, you must FIRST CHOOSE what type of a rom u want:
1. Stock firmware (with or without root)
2. Custom rom based on stock
3. Custom AOSP/AOKP rom
Once you decide on that, we can guide you better.

So when I flash a new kernel, I have to root it again? Or my handset will stay rooted?
As for Jelly bean... I just want to start with the stock rom and stock kernel. Can you please tell me what to get.

No, once you root, flashing a kernel will not unroot you. You need to flash a stock firmware to unroot.
You get all stock firmwares from sammobile.com.

If you don't have CWM recovery (assuming you know what it is), you can flash a custom kernel containing cwm or use rom manager, or even use temporary cwm zips.

1. Install ROM Manager and Flash the Latest CWM Recovery from it (Do a NANDroid Backup ofc).

3. Flash a Custom Kernel (Is this mandatory?) e.g. Dorimanx.
4. Enjoy the beauty of life and nature (See what i did there? ).

HI
my counter is on 3 now....is this a problem, as I dont have warranty any more anyway ?
greetz
Re: [Q] Help im to stupid to flash a costum rom
No, its not a problem, even if you did have warranty. The binary counter and yellow triangle show samsung that something had been flashed to phone, so they can refuse your warranty.
But before you would send it back for warranty, you would remove the signs of flashing. If you cant (like mb bricked); then samsung cant see what you have done.
Anyway, if you were on ICS, you can use triangle away app, and use a jig for GB.And flashing by recovery doesnt add the binary counter, that is why the other chap is recommending that.
You dont need to worry now, but the jig is also handy for booting phone into download mode.....like if your home button is faulty.

You can use the method you think whats best for you.
But you should be aware of this;
1.before you do anything make sure you have Odin/drivers installed on your pc in case you need it fast.
2.when you get cwm, do a nand backup and make efs backup.
3.read some guides and have a quick look through the titles in this forum and youll see what goes wrong when you start flashing etc.....LOL

Yes, you need to be rooted to flash a custom ROM.

Hey! I have a Samsung Galaxy s2. I live in norway, and i would need some help getting started rooting and installing custom roms on my device. I have some experience with a old SE Xperia x8, but i could not find root software for my device. It would be awesome if you could help me getting started installing any MIUI rom on my device such as one of these:

Hello All,
What is the best root package for XWLSN on GTi9100 ?? I flashed Siyah-s2-v6.0b4.tar which broke connectivity to PC by Kies completely. I retried connecting by enabling and disabling Developer options > USB debugging but no use. Kies keeps on trying to connect then fail...PC version of Kies is up to date (Windows 7) though. Is it normal for rooted phones to have problems with Kies?
I flashed LSN stock again.
Better ones, with links please?
Use Philz kernel.
Find the XWLSN version.
Download the zip file.
Save it to external SD card.
Go to stock recovery.
Flash the zip file.
And you're...

Sorry to be a paranoid bro but is it fully compatible for XWLSN on S2? Coz I found 19 out of 20 google searches take me to Siyah-s2-v6.0b4.tar for 'rooting XWLSN' ? Perplexed wallah...
Is all kernels for all versions? Some threads bring users with severe issues for flashing mismatch kernels..
A lil more info pls
There is a different root package for every region ?

I really don't know about that, all what I need is a stable root kernel which mostly gives the same stability of stock ones, ability to PC connectivity without issues, ability remove bloatwares and that's it. No bigger games!
I appreciate a further feed from immortalneo and others

Not for Siyah, since its a custom kernel.
But Philz is the stock kernel itself, and hence it differs for different regions/builds (like CF kernels).

In fact, Philz kernel is the stock kernel itself. So its the most compatible mate!
Siyah is a custom kernel that can be tweaked to ur liking. Unless u really want to do that, I suggest you go for Philz.
Please read what I answered Sagar above regarding choosing the correct kernel.

Then you need Philz mate.
Forgive me if I am wrong, but you really need to read a lot. That way, you can dispel whatever fears you have of these stuff, and have a safe and pleasant experience doing so.
I am giving you the correct kernel's link, but I really insist you read the first few posts of the Philz kernel thread given above.

As quoted by Intratech:
CSC*is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.

Hi everybody,
I came here for help, as I need to revert back to 2.3.6 official stock firmware of an i9100P and so far all the tuturials that I have found only talk about i9100 version.
Currently I have installed on the phone:
Model Number GT-I9100
Version: 4.1.2
Base version: I9100XXLS8
Kernel Version:
3.0.31-889555
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 31 14:48:54
KST 2013
NÂș of compilation: JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
After checking the back of the phone and going to Samsung firmwares I have discovered that the stock 2.3.6 is I9100PBVKL2_I9100PFTMKL3_FTM which I have already downloaded.
I have 2 questions for which I would kindly ask for your help. I have searched for 2 days, but I could not find reliable information as to how to do this. And because I don't want to end up with a brick I come here for help.
1st question:
How can I revert back to the stock 2.3.6 ROM? Can I just flash it with odin, or do I need a special files for i9100P version?
2nd question:
After I get to 2.3.6 what do I have to do to root it?
Thank you all for your help.

1. Simply flash stock firmware via Odin. No need of special files.
2. Root it by zergRush Exploit method.
One more thing - this is the general section. Please post questions in the Q & A Section.

1000 Thanks immortalneo
I would just like to ask if I need to select Re-partition in Odin or just leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time in the flashing options.
Sorry for the follow up question, but in some tuturials they use special pit files and csc files to revert back and I just want to be sure that I don't screw this up.
Edit: did you notice that the phone is actually a i9100P with a i9100 4.1.2 firmware installed?

Yes, I did notice that. But its ok.
Just don't change any options in Odin. Leave them at their default settings.
Do not tick 'Re-partition' or use a PIT file.
For more info, read about flashing via Odin.

Thank you I was able to revert back to 2.3.6 and now the phone is working correctly again. I had some problems with not registering to the network. Now for the root I am not sure why but it did not work out, It looks as if it did work, but after the reboot I still don't have su installed and all the options (usb debug. and install outside sources are checked).
I will try to update it to 4.0.3 official and see if that helps to get root.
If I can bother you with one last thing, do you know if there is a I9100P 4.1.2 stock, rooted ROM? Nothing fancy just something light, bloatware free and rooted with the latest JB features and a usable NFC chip.
Thanks once again for all your help.

There are currently no custom ROMs for I9100P. But you can install any custom ROM meant for the I9100!
Of course, you will lose NFC capability after that. To get back NFC, re-enable NFC using this patch.

Dear immortalneo,
Thanks for all your help. The reason why I wanted to revert back to 2.3.6 was because I had a problem with the phone not registering to the network. Everything worked perfectly on the phone, but the phone would refuse to register to the network. After trying different SIM cards I even thought that I had a blocked IMEI, but as soon as I reverted back to 2.3.6 the network started working again which probably means that the IMEI is fine. (please comment)
Then I upgraded to 4.0.3 stock ROM and I get the no network problem again (it even showed Safe Mode on the bottom left side of the screen of the phone), but as soon as I try to root it with your suggested program I get the the network working (after it rebooted).
What a strange problem. So now I have a the stock 4.0.3 (full of bloatware ROM) which I can't root with zerglings. I checked with root checker and I get the message "sorry your phone is not rooted".
The objective is to have a stable working 4.1.2.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: reverted back to 2.3.6 for root but still can't root the phone. Please see the print screen with the end result.
Ok, I get your frustration.
U need a debloated stock rom, right? Try NeatRom Lite.
But since it is for I9100, u will have to use NFC Enabler patch also.
That will do..

For rooting ICS, CF kernels or custom kernels are better than zergRush exploit method.
Just flash Siyah v5.0.1 kernel via Odin to get root on ICS 4.0.3.
Then you can flash NeatRom from CWM.

Thanks for the suggestion of the ROM. Downloading it now.
Now any idea how to install this on a stock 2.3.6 which I can't root? Any way to get CWM on it without root?
Please see the annexed image in my last post.
EDIT: Perfect will do what you have suggested, I'll let you know how it went.
EDIT2: Got it working as intended, registering to the network without any problems (so far), and very smooth ROM. The only thing I could not find was a way to add the Samsung Account (does not appear in the account options), as in case my mother looses the phone, the tracking and locking options will come useful.
But all in all it is working well (knock on wood).
Thanks once again for all your help.

Thanks once again for the advice. I used search instead, found out that the lite version had it removed, downloaded a zip file with all the removed APK, I have extracted it and installed just the one that I needed and problem was solved.
So if the question is there, I normally find it without the need of bothering people.
Thank you for all your assistance with the not so famous version of the GSII the i9100P . Hope to help you one day as much as you did help me.
Have a nice week.
