HOX+ even when on brightness 100% does not allow for comfortable reading in direct sunlight. (compared to the iphone, HOX+ is a joke). Is there a way to increase the brightness past 100% ? On the HOX for instance, i used Jotha's Advanced power menu with autobrightness; when flashing APM pure (meaning without autobrightness patch) my screen lights up drastically and allows for direct sunlight reading.
Jotha's MOD has some issue on the HOX+ so I do not want to use it
Any ideas on how to improve ?
thx

Are you using power saver function? If yes, turn off brightness option from it because it reduces maximum brightness down..

You might have a screen protector that covers the light sensor, try getting an anti glare, matte screen protector, they reduce reflections and make outdoor viewing just that little bit easier, also make sure it has cut outs for the sensors, I think the Seido one does but not sure. It might also just be a software flaw, try using Lumos from google play, it adjust brightness way more effectively than stock auto brightness and can even vary the brightness of the buttons to different situations.

The was a fancy little option in CM7 (not sure if it is anywhere else) where you could edit the brightness values your screen would display dependent upon the amount of ambient light it detected. Is there such a thing for doing so on the TBolt? I feel like if that could be accomplished, batt life would improve significantly. It may just be a feature of CM7 only and/or wishful thinking. Thankssssssssssssss!
[see attachment for what I am talking about]
Edit: From mister Layher himself via twitter. Shut her (the thread) down.
@HKYZLYF that's a #cm7 feature. I think in sense all you can do is pick between auto or none. I think.
the auto brightness is really BULL**** too. It doesnt get bright enough in light and is too bright when its dark. it really sucks
I have ongoing problems with eyestrain. Back-lit screens seem to be the issue. Have you found the SGS2 better or worse in regard to eyestrain, if this is an issue for you. I would really like the SGS2, but I may go with the Sensation if its screen may be better for me. Is max brightness on the SGS2 bearable? Reducing brightness seems to increase flicker on LED screens.
Does the job very nicely,

Is it possible to keep SGS2 brightness at max and then use this app on top to make it appear darker? Or is Screen Filter just a replacement for the SGS2 brightness control that allows further dimming than minimum, or does it work differently?
Thanks
I havent noticed flicker on the S2's screen on normal usage unless I open up specific test patterns for flickering like this site
http://www.techmind.org/lcd/
It of course is to dimming it over min brightness for easier night reading without any sort of strain, haven't used with Max brightness as even 25% is too bright for me for normal usage and then that app with Auto brightness for night readings/browsing
Regards.

Oh. I thought maybe it worked differently since on the app description it talks about applying a "shade" over the screen.
It might work for me if it did not actually dim the LED, but "filtered" the information to be displayed so that it came out less bright. I don't know how exactly that would work, and I guess if this "software" dimming was available then manufacturers would already be using it.
I've decided to go with the HTC Sensation. I figure that the SGS2 will either be the worst or the best phone in regards to eye strain, and it's not worth the risk. Kind of bummed out since I had my heart set on the SGS2 but hey everyone keeps saying that they're both great phones.
Both phone are great but i dont seem to experience eye strain on sgs2 seems good to me...imho
I really cant find an answer to this problem and I hope you guys can help. Reading the reviews of neo it seems like the reviewers are divided on the brightness of the screen. GSMarena reports a stunning over 500 nits brightness. GSMarena also states the neo has the highest contrast of any LCD on a phone, if this is true how come it's not talked about much?
Now some other reviews like phonearena are saying the display is dim and doesnt do well in sunlight? Basically some reviews say the display is stunning crisp bright etc and then some say that it's dim and just average, what gives?
Since SE keeps changing the implementation with updates I want to know from those running the latest version. I know you cant disable auto-brightness without rooting but I want to know one thing.
If I lets say keep the brightness at 70% does this mean that it will work between 0-70% and will never go above 70% even in sunlight?
Does the auto-brightness disable completely at 100%?
Does the latest firmware allow maximum brightness without rooting and installing that app which boosted brightness?

1: Yes
2: Yes
3: No
Also, without root, the brightness will also have a higher minimum. If I disable auto-brightness, I can lower the brightness so much that the display has no backlighting at all.
So how come gsmarena's xperia neo was so damn bright without rooting and anything? Did SE change it's maximum brightness with an update? Just how dumb can SE get.
use the se tweaked 8.5 rom it disables that damn light sensor and let's you set brightness to 100% it looks awesome and vibrant @ full brightness
I use this, works great (root needed)
Would you guys agree with GSMarena's test that xperia neo has the highest contrast LCD on any phone right now?
The screen dims and changes brightness by itself so much I am contemplating just turning it up and leaving it.
Any thoughts to this, and does it drain your battery super quick?
Seems a waste of the SLCD 2 to have so dim and changing brightness all the time

If you plan on disabling brightness just keep in mind if your an outdoors user or indoors user, the lighting around you will play a key roll on what levels of lighting you decide to have.
Personally I have the Automatic setting enabled, but I keep a widget (via widgetsoid) handy so I can disable it when I want and how I want on the fly.

Max brightness will definitely have an adverse effect on batt life. I personally keep mine at about 40% which is fine except when im in direct sunlight.

I know what you mean, I tried doing the same because I got sick of the brightness changes all the time, but after a couple of days having to adjust it myself or compromise on batt life, I decided to go back to Automatic settings... In my life I go to much outdoors as I can spend hole days indoors its what ever happens, happens so I decided to stick with the annoying setting other than being annoyed by having to set it myself.
Screen brightness is the biggest contributor to battery drain. I keep mine as dim as possible at all times. I've unfortunately become quite OCD about it.

I'm the same way. But the problem I have with this phone is that the more dimmer I make it, the more uglier the whites become (which I have become OCD about).
So I have double OCD working against each other and my brain is going to explode. That is all. Carry on.
Ok; the phone has been out a few months. Anyone's opinions changed?
I generally keep screen auto-brightness OFF, and set it to about 60% to 70% brightness static. When plugged into power to watch video, I go to 100%.

+1 for Auto and a widget. Most of my use happens at the extremes - OFF or 100%, so this provides easy switching.
I keep mine down around 10%, and only use autobrightness when outdoors
Anyone else having problems with automatic brightness changes?
Every evening when it gets dark the brightness level goes to the lowest level, which is much to dark to read anything. Every evening I have to adjust the ''automatic'' level to halfway the level-slider, multiple times.
Do you have night mode enabled ?
I have this feature enabled from 9pm to 7am and indeed the auto brightness goes lower than normal value during this time slot .

No eye comfort modus
No Adaptive sleep modus
Only 'dark modus' enabled day and night
The same is happening to me. The brightness of the screen in darker lights is too low. Every time I move the slider to upper brightness but next time I open the screen is lower again.

I might state the obvious, but the sensor is a bit high up on the device and it might be covered by your phone case, u sure it's not just a goof with an off brand cover?
The sensor is not covered. I use an original OnePlus cover.
Strange thing ... Everybody or at least majority of Oneplus Nord 2 owners had complained about automatic brightness . It's true in my case as well but now problem is solved with a 3-d party apk . Velis Auto Brightness from G.Play . Calibrating autobrightness is very accurate but the app remain active in background all the time and I didn't know how this affect battery drain . I read all OnePlus latest phones have this annoying bug and it's pitty none of latest updates solved it , worst here on XDA or OnePlus forum no one offer any solutions to calibrate automatic brightness .
Some smart guys said there is not "automatic brightness" but "adaptive brightness" so we had to learn phone AI how to adjust brightness a few days and then restart the phone . This are childish thoughts of those which are nothing to do else .
So , what do you think about this ? There are solutions to calibrate or fix this issue ?
I noticed that when the phone is on below 15% or lower and the battery saver is on ( for me it's 10%) the phone brightness goes to automatic mode and it becomes even less bright. I think it has to be a certain feature which is connected to battery saving IMO.
I'm using Velis for 3 months as well. This solves the problem. But OnePlus definitely should solve this.
Even latest update v11.3 EU, doesn't solve it. I even did a factory reset. 3 hours work to reset everything back as is was, for nothing...
Look at a possible solution (for me didn't work) :

FYI: I did this a few minutes ago. I think that may be it. Before I did this, the screen brightness did not work at all. I could slide that slider up and down and nothing ever changed on screen brightness, auto or manual. Now it works! On auto and manual!
Hopefully this is the "fix"! But disabling a feature is NOT a fix, it's a workaround. Luckily I don't need that feature

So far the screen brightness has not faded into darkness. Phone is working fine now. This is a workaround that works.

Since A.14 OTA , Adaptive Brightness is better but not entirely satisfying . It seems they solve bugs by little steps ... which is quite annoying !

Minimum level (especially in low light) is a little bit higher , sensitivity is more accurate and transition between levels is also a little bit faster . I'm pretty sure there are some improvements , that's a fact not a feeling .
