(I thought I asked this recently but can't find the post)
OK ... first off GPS / Nav works.
The issue is first off in car use cigarette plug charger, when as a phone only (or playing music via BT) all OK .. battery keeps topped up.
However if I use SatNav the battery cannot keep up .... even though it says charging it slowly discharges ..
I read here some car adapters don't give out full mA current, (that SGS can take) to be 100% sure, I went and bought a 1.5A USB adapter and still the same ... no problem until I switch on SatNav ... then it starts draining ... a couple of % every 15min.
I assume this is simply down to screen taking so much current .... but in very simple terms the phone should be able to keep up via charge when SatNav is enabled.
Anybody got a fix for this ? (screen dimming is enabled)
Ok seems that I am not the only one that is seeing this.
I've owned the S2 for a week and it feels very weird coming from HTC products.
It charges sloooooooow. Also I noticed that battery monitor shows weird values were on the Desire HD it was giving rock solid logical numbers in aspect of Voltage and current.
The s2 sometimes gives me 80% at 3,952 Volts and after a 40min drive 78% and ... 4,012 Volts. It is not stable at all
Just checking the stats in the batt monitor tool.
23:21 at 70% and 3,986 Volts while at 9:00 at 82% and 3,981 Volts.
It doesn't make any sense at all to me
From what I have read is that the charging controller of the S2 is only capable to charge up to a rate of 650mA while the HTC charged at 1000mA (0,65A vs 1A).
Now today I switched off wifi while driving and then it seemed to be very slowly charging. Give that a try and let us know.
Different types of chargers charge at different rates. Mains charges at 650mA, but USB and misc are around 450/550mA. If you're rooted you can change the charging currents in ExTweaks/Voltage Control/setCPU/whatever, however USB is limited as to what it can output anyway, and if you try and force too high a current through, things start to fry.

You would not use a Mains charger when using SatNa
It would be a basic requirement that SatNav use in car would be able to keep charged with a USB charger.?
As the same micro USB port is used, how does, phone know its not on Mains?
In answer to above Q ..Wifi is off, I always turn it off when I enable BT.

OK, that is an 'easy' one. The chargers 'shorten' the 2 data lines.
I've placed shorten between brackets because it doesn't do any harm at all.
I've you install battery monitor you can actually see 'usb connected' or 'ac charging'
As always using waze on my trip to work which takes about 50min.
Started at 58% and went up to 65% when I arrived.

Here is a simple Q then (maybe I'm naive) .. I am not using USB data port to charge, but a car USB charger point (no chance of any data)
Would charger manufacturers not have this 'short; in place as they are making chargers only ?
If not can you provide any details how to do this ... chargers have plenty of current, be good to get phone to use what it can of this.
dont know how to fix your issue but just to let you know its normal for the phone. Im always on my sat nav with a car charger and never been issues with losing any power. Quite often it comes off charge with more than it was plugged in with.
Hmmm.... I'm using original Blackberry car charger for both BB 9700 and SGS 2.
Yes, it charges slow, but with BT and GPS on it does gain on charge/percentage.

They should have but unfortunately they often seem to 'forget' it

I have attached two photos showing an adapter I fixed myself. Look at the image 'charger-bottom-side.jpg' and notice the red circle. Within this circle you can see the short between the two data lines (D+ and D-). The short is simply a drop of tin-solder.

I have now purchased a new lead and charger (to be sure)
Running the App it shows "Charging AC Plugged"
It cannot keep up with current demand when Bluetooth & GPS active ... slowly discharges.
I have had the S2 for about a month now.
Seems like Sygic is the only GPS soft which I tried that doesn't hit the cpu 100% all the time.
I did a test over the weekend and with everything 'on' it slowly charged the phone.

I have had the discharge problem using sat nav (Copilot live premium) and a car charger (various car chargers actually). Stock S2 with generic UK firmware. The problem exists on 4.03 and 4.04 - not sure about previous GB as updated to ICS as soon as I bought the phone.
I have found that if I apply battery save mode and turn down the screen brightness the charge just about holds station.
But the strangest thing I have found, although reading around I have not seen it mentioned elsewhere, is that if I enable mobile data the phone charges just fine whilst using sat nav. The problem only arises when I disable the data connection. This came to my attention whilst abroad where I deactivated data to avoid preposterous roaming charges.
This rather implies to me that something is trying to use the mobile data connection when it is deactivated and is causing battery drain when it can't. This could be any app of course, but the problem only rears its head when I use the sat nav (power hungry) with the mobile data turned off.
Has anyone else noticed this? Any advice on narrowing down which app/process this might be would be welcome.

Sorry for bumping into this thread but I think I can help.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your question is:
-Battery charging cannot keep up with discharging rate while using GPS and Bluetooth.
Reason for this problem:
-This occurs because usb charging further is lower than charging via wall charger, hence the battery heroes discharging when the demand is higher than the charging rate.
Solution:
-we need to increase usb charging current to equals the Ac charging current
How is that possible:
1.Root access is needed. If you don't already have root access key me know
2.custom kernel needed.
-You need to flash one of, Siyah, Dorimanx or dream kernel.
-Any of these kernels has the option to increase usb charging current
-move to 3. If you are already running any of the listed kernels.
3.after flashing the custom kernel, install extweaks from market.
-open extweaks
-under "misc", change the charging current to option 3.

I advise not to do that because:
It will not solve this problem as charging from AC is already detected by the device (see above).
The option is dangerous and will enable (if working at all) charging with the higher current limits from any USB port.

Actually in my case when using sat nav it will charge with mobile data enabled, but will discharge (whilst connected to the car charger/wall charger) without data enabled.
Guys, I m having a serious problem from the last week ... whenever i charge my galaxy s 2 ... all it does is get heated up ... but not even one percent of the battery gets charged .. but it charges only wen i switch off the mobile

Try to recalibrate your battery using recovery menu or 3rd party app from the market.
I'd also recommend upgrading to 4.0.3 via Kies.
are you trying to recharge it with usb or mains?
First thing; don't try and 'calibrate' your battery using any app, the recovery menu or any voodoo crap you might read on here. It's just not possible. It's a nonsense. Best you can do is charge the battery to 100%, remove it for a minute, put it back in the phone & enjoy so far as that is concerned.
Waza is on the right path. If that's happening when it's connected to charger, you probably have a problem with the battery in all likelihood (or maybe even the charging circuitry). I'd get a new battery & see how that goes in the first instance, if it does end up being something 'worse' (USB/charging circuitry), at worst you'll have a spare battery for when you get it repaired & at best you'll fix the problem.
As Waza alluded, if it's happening on USB charge, that's not necessarily unusual if you're using the phone - whatever you're doing with the phone is using more juice than the rate of charge, also the phone will tend to get hot if you do anything more than light use while it's on either AC or USB charge.

and i m looking forward for the battery life ...

I have s3 I9300 unrooted with stock rom. Its charging and battery problem annoying me alot. I gone through many threads but didnt find any solution..my problems are.
1. Charging issue. suppose i am charging with original s3 charger ( USB+CHARGER) than it shows charging but actually charging not happening & battery percentage is decreasing as on standby mode. than i charged through USB than its working fine. after that i again use charger (USB+CHARGER) than ists working fine. It continuously happening to me day by day. I done factory reset also & i also flash the stock ROM two three times.
2. Other thing is that the battery draining so fast in standby mode while normal wallpaper, wi fi off, gps off, mobile data off. Its really disgusting. I love this phone but ..... HELP?

My phone has to charge more than 24 hours to fully charge...I'm using the stock wall charger and i'm on KitKat 4.4.2 Teamsek unofficial v42 using Boeffla Kernel 2.2 beta1. What to do ?

Maybe the charger or just the cable may be faulty so you need to check first.
Second, if you are turning off wifi from the toggle, then try turning it off from the settings manually. If you think this is related to the ROM, then you can ask in the relevant thread for assistance.

How do i reset my battery and deep charge ?
1. Slow charging is because bad charger (if you have root and for example Boeffla kernel, you can force fast charge).
2. Wifi always on is because you have set in wifi -> advanced ->always allow searching for accurate location.
The names of path and settings are probably wrong, because i have Czech language, so i dont know how it is called in English.
Solution:
1. buy new charger
2. turn off searching wifi for location purposes.
Before buying a new charger altogether, you can just test what happens if you try to charge it via usb port, you should have a microsd cable lying around somewhere. USB ports only give 500mA but it should still charge in a few hours.
If it still doesnt charge, it might be either the charger module in the phone or the battery. I had a faulty microusb input in my old i9100, it prolonged charging hours.
charge to 100%，open rootexploer ，find /data/system/ba tterystats.bin,delet it,never charge it until it drains completely。
Switched chargers and now it charges in 3 hours...
Since you're on Boeffla Kernel, you can download and use "Boeffla-Config" and increase the AC charging current from 1100 mA to a higher number and turning off Ignore Unstable Power and Ignore Safety Margin.
And increase USB charging current from 475 to 500 mA this will provide you with faster charging speeds.
P.S Increasing USB Charge Current To anything beyond 500 mA has no effect on USB 2.0 ports since these ports provide only 500 mA output current no more.
So i just played with Custom ROMs to find the best for me...
But from one point my Phone f*cked up the battery detecting...
CM9 and CM9 detect the battery at 45% and then he Level instantly just drop to 0%...
I cant even restart my phone, so i guess the battery really went out...
So how can i fix, that the ROM would not detect it 45% but 3-4% ?
And let me fully chage my phone ?
Stock rom Always Detect it 100% and then randonly the phone shut down in random times (cuz it drops the level to 0%)
I've tried the "Fully-Charge, Fully-Discharge" But the ROM still detect the Battery wrong...
Even tried to delete the battery stats...
Any solution, or idea ?

How old is the battery? What charging cable are you using and what is the cable plugged into?
If the battery is more then a year old it could be 'tired' and not holding a charge correctly (trying another known good battery in your phone will determine this, as will trying your battery in another phone, and if it works well you may have more issues to deal with). If you got the phone second hand, you have no way of knowing the battery's history. Repeated overcharging is also not recommended, as well as leaving the battery in very hot places as it can damage the onboard circuitry in the battery.
Cheap aftermarket (non OEM) USB cables are not that great imo, they are generally not as well made and soon get loose connections, resulting in poor connectivity (charging with a bad cable can also damage the battery). Always use the original cable or a good quality aftermarket one, like Belkin.
Charging the phone from a USB port on a PC or laptop (and/or via a USB hub) is not as efficient as charging it directly from a wall mains USB adapter, because the power often gets interrupted. Ideally for the best charge you should turn the phone off and use a wall/mains socket USB lead, so as give a direct, constant, power supply to charge a battery. A typical full charge is done in two hours. If you charge this way and the battery still has issues buy a new one.

First of all, the Phone is manufactured in 11W41 (2011 Week #41) and the battery in 11W39 (2011 Week #39)
I use a tipical Micro USB charger which does not connect to the wall with USB but the cable directly integrated into the adapter...
And the phone's shipped official cable to charge throught my PC...
The battery worked fine before i forgot to delete battery stats and flashed a ROM...
After that, all ROM is getting fake battery data...
After using my phone i noticed:
-When the phone displays 70-80% charge, the battery actually have 10-15%
-When the battery reach 0% the phone not just jumps to 0% but the Phone shut down within a half second (as no more energy)
-When i charge it to 3-4% the phone show 80% again...
-So i can charge it to about 10 or max 15% when the OS detect 100% and does not charge it further more, which prevent me from properly re-calibrate the battery stats, cuz 10-15 will be always the max charge of the battery...
Now i'm looking for some kind of Mod / App that fake the Battery level to the OS (for example lock it to 5% and the OS continue to charge the battery) i know its dangerious cuz if i'm not aware i'll overcharge it and it will die permanently, but i have no better idea ATM...
Update: Sometimes after my phone dies from no remaining electron in the battery It displays 5% charge when i switch it on while connected to a charger (the only way i can switch it on) And starts to increase.. (5-6-7-8 etc..)
But sometimes it instantly jumps up to 70-80% if i think right when the screen switches of..
So i enabled "No-screen-off-whili-on-charger" and letit charging..
Will notice you about the result...

try reflash stock.ics ftf should fix this
Already tried, the Stock rom always showed 100% charge, and when the battery ran out, just powered off...
(Jumped from 100 to 0 instantly)
As i mentioned, in the reply you quoted, today it started charging from 0...
It went good, but somewhy, it just stopped at 26% and not a single volt went into the Battery...
As i Pulled out the Cable, the indicator jumped to 100 instantly...
Can you link several stock ROMs ?
I've tried with the 4.0.4 Android
but maybe the 2.3 can still work with it...

but i think theres some HW damage. even if not rhe battery maybe some config chip is broken or whatever on the board. normally flashing a stock.ics.ftf resloves all software issues, as its resets all stuff to factory..

One solution still, that my frind has the same phone as me, so when i meet him, he can charge my battery to really full and maybe when i insert it to my phone it might work...
