[Q] Data connection not working properly [Solved] - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi peeps, recently my phone's data connection is not working properly. I cant seem to send/receive msgs on whatsapp, can search for videos in youtube but cant load the videos, speedtest app able to download but not able to upload. I'd flashed 3 differents ROMs (Neat, RR, Jellybam) and the results are all the same. I'd too flashed dorimanx kernel after each attempt on each ROM and changed the modem but it still doesnt help. I'm currently using rom - Jellybam 7.0, kernel - dorimanx 9.14, modem - XXLS8. Was wondering if anyone can help on this or point in a direction that I can read up on. Thanks!

it seems like yes, that this issue currently only occurs with custom roms. I don't quite understand "stock firmware" . how do I try it or maybe can you point me to a direction where I can read it up? sorry i'm not very good with all these!
Edit: oh I forgot to mention that previously on custom roms i dont experience such issues. it only happened recently, without me knowing what i'd done to the phone =/

[SOLVED][Q] I9100P and cyanogenmod 10.1 advices

OHello SGS2 users! I'm a sgs+ user and a friend asked me to upgrade his i9100P to latest Android version.. I suggested him to install cyanogenmod 10.1 (he doesn't care about losing NFC).
So, I would like to know which are the bugs/issues of this ROM, and how to install it
Since it's a i9100P, I have to install the i9100 cwm (does it use the same .ops file of i9100?) and then I have to install the cm10.1 of i9100?
Thanks in advance

I'm scared of this superbrick bug.. the phone has android 4.0.4, i have to install a custom recovery (which one? I had a look into the cwm thread, but there's only a recovery based on JB..)
I'm sorry, but I'm really scared of this bug
Forget the 'cwm thread (??)' & forget 4.0.4/the brickbug. Read the first page of the CM10 thread (in Original Development section), follow the instructions. Simple.

Oh, i probably solved it..! I will install PhilZ's cwm6 with his safe kernel trough stock recovery, then i will have the stock kernel (safe) and the cwm6, then i will install the cyanogenmod 10.1. Last question: will stock cwm6 come with cyano and overwrite the PhilZ's one within some OTA updates? Thanks guys!
Yes. You can do it that way as well. When you flash CM10, you'll get whatever version of CWM is currently bundled with it. Yes, it will overwrite the version of CWM you get after you flash PhilZ's kernel, because CWM is baked into the kernel; when you flash CM10 the you'll end up with the CM kernel which will overwrite PhilZ's kernel.
I don't understand what you said about OTA updates.

I mean updating from the phone by CMUpdater, without using any PC.. does it work like this with official builds of cyanogenmod?
Since I have a unsupported device by the cyanogenmod team, I always have to download the ROM on the PC, move it to sdcard and flash manually. (Correct me if I'm wrong, this is the first time I mod a cyanogenmod team-officially supported device)

Don't know if they've managed to get that working for SGS2 (they hadn't when I last used CM in around April last year). Check/ask in the CM10 thread. Even if they haven't, no biggie to DL a nightly & flash it in CWM. I used to do that pretty much every day.

Oh yes, CM updater works all right.
I did use it for some nightlies, then switched to Cyandelta to download new nightlies..
We can also manually download the nightly from get.cm directly into the phone, right?

So I use "i9100P: BVLPC-FTM, XXLPY-TIM" kernel from PhilZ, and then i'm able to make a full wipe on stock ROM in a safe way? After installing Cyanogenmod, shouldn't i be scared anymore (Cyano is 100% safe)?

[Q] Best root kernel for JB 4.1.2 XWLSN ?

Hello All,
What is the best root package for XWLSN on GTi9100 ?? I flashed Siyah-s2-v6.0b4.tar which broke connectivity to PC by Kies completely. I retried connecting by enabling and disabling Developer options > USB debugging but no use. Kies keeps on trying to connect then fail...PC version of Kies is up to date (Windows 7) though. Is it normal for rooted phones to have problems with Kies?
I flashed LSN stock again.
Better ones, with links please?

I really don't know about that, all what I need is a stable root kernel which mostly gives the same stability of stock ones, ability to PC connectivity without issues, ability remove bloatwares and that's it. No bigger games!

Not for Siyah, since its a custom kernel.
But Philz is the stock kernel itself, and hence it differs for different regions/builds (like CF kernels).

In fact, Philz kernel is the stock kernel itself. So its the most compatible mate!
Siyah is a custom kernel that can be tweaked to ur liking. Unless u really want to do that, I suggest you go for Philz.

As quoted by Intratech:
CSC*is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.

[Q] Rooting caused voice command to stop...

After I rooted my UK S2, I found 3 things have stopped working:
1. Bluetooth
2. Voice control (causes the phone to freeze for about 8 seconds)
3. The home button (now does nothing)
I attempted to install (correct term?) android 4.2.2 and seemed to all go well, however, when I had finished flashing it, the phone booted, with the new startup screen, which just stayed there for 30 minutes. So I had to restore the phone to a backup from months ago.
The 3 broken things still don't work.
Help...
Tell me how u rooted, on which firmware u are now, which rom did u flash (correct term)?
U have the I9100 right?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"
Sent from my SGS II
Yes I have a I9100 - UK version.
How rooted: I used Odin3v185 and the cable, connected to my Windows 7 PC..
The first file I used to root:
"CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar " - this failed. So I used
"Siyah-s2-v6.0b4.tar" - which worked.
My current "about phone" screen screenshot attached as an image. I am back on 4.0.4 as I restored a backup (with CWM) to get my phone to even start. But the other problems from my OP still exist.

Which rom I flashed might be a moot point, because I am pretty sure I had these problems since I rooted the phone.
I am also not sure how to find which rom is on my phone. I assume the info in the screenshot is helpful, if not I will follow any instructions.
Hope someone can help. Thank you so much...
PS. One thing. I just remembered, before flashing the new rom, I backed up all the phone and SD card files to my PC HD, and then wiped both SD card and the phone memory.
You have 4.0.4 now, with Siyah v6 (according to your screen shot). That kernel should be ur problem.
Siyah v6 is for 4.1.2 JB ROMs.
Please flash Siyah v5.0.1 and see if the issues persist.
A word of advice:
Avoid doing factory reset or restoring nandroid backup while you're on 4.0.4. You're safe with the Siyah kernel, but I wouldn't take my chances with the eMMC Brickbug.

For your information, rooting is not responsible for this. Its the kernel u used to root that is responsible.

That is known as a 'bootloop'. It is quite common when upgrading from ICS to JB. A simple factory reset would have solved that bootloop.

Just check the Build Version to see which rom u currently have.
In ur case, u have XWLPT build, which is the stock 4.0.4 rom.

All these rom version numbers are a bit of a headache.
Where should I get the roms from? Is there a site with a list of the roms?
Edit:
I got the Siyah v5.0.1 kernel here
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/?p=1536
Took 2 minutes to solve the problem.

I agree.
I just flashed Siyah v5.0.1 - It fixed the problem. I don't know how or why. Can you please explain?
Also, it didn't delete anything off the phone. But whatever I did before, deleted everything from my phone.

Anyway who cares about that, the main thing for now is I want to get Jellybean onto my handset. What zip file should I get that will not cause my phone problems?
Its up to u mate wot u wnt if u wnt stock (4.1.2) its few out there like wanam, neat rom etc. or if u wnt cm10.1 (4.2.2) i prefer rootbox but u have to just read and make decision.
Best wot u can do before u flash rom download "rom nuke script" it will format all old rubish then u can flash. With stock i think u just download zip and flash a with cm 1st flash rom 2nd gapps and enjoy . but before that read read read good luck mate

You start with a clean slate. No probability of errors due to old junk. Simple.
In my opinion, since u have 4.0.4, I would avoid that just to be extra safe.

Again simple explanation:
Kernels control the hardware like bluetooth, wifi etc. They are different for different android versions. You used a kernel for Jellybean and so some hardware functionality was lost.
Flashing a kernel means replacing the previous kernel code with a new one. So it doesn't delete anything from ur phone.

Since u asked for a zip file, u are planning to flash JB via recovery, right?
Like stopro said, you must FIRST CHOOSE what type of a rom u want:
1. Stock firmware (with or without root)
2. Custom rom based on stock
3. Custom AOSP/AOKP rom
Once you decide on that, we can guide you better.

So when I flash a new kernel, I have to root it again? Or my handset will stay rooted?
As for Jelly bean... I just want to start with the stock rom and stock kernel. Can you please tell me what to get.

No, once you root, flashing a kernel will not unroot you. You need to flash a stock firmware to unroot.
You get all stock firmwares from sammobile.com.

sammobile needs me to be registered. worth it? Anywhere else I can get what I need?
Would you help me pick a guide for flashing my phone to jellybean?

Ur right.. u got the basic idea!
Registration is free mate! Worth it too! Because you can search for the exact firmware for ur region and carrier!
But if you don't want to register, find all generic stock firmwares here:

You can use that method to root, but you have to BE CAREFUL.
That method involves using a temporary CWM recovery to root and unroot. As long as u only do that, you are safe. But if u wipe data/cache/dalvik or restore a nandroid backup, YOU MAY BRICK UR DEVICE!
For more info, please read about eMMC Brickbug.
To be safe, you can root by flashing Siyah v5.0.1 via Odin.

[SOLVED] [HELP] No Mobile Data in SGS2

Hello folks, this is my first post Hope to have a solution for my M250S converted to Galaxy S2 which I'm having a problem with.
I'll get to the point straight.
The problem that I'm with S2 is that I'm not able to use mobile data. Even though I've enabled mobile data from settings, No mobile data icon is shown in status bar. I've set up APN settings correctly as well. Did try with different network SIM with correct APN settings. But no luck. I'm talking about either EDGE, HSPA or 3G icon in the status bar (like in attachment below).
But internet via WiFi works fine. Tried flashing a new stock ROM, custom ROM, wiping out cache, factory resetting and turning on "WCDMA only" as well :crying:
Could this be a hardware fault? Or firmware issue (like csc or modem)?
Note : On the first day I purchased the phone, mobile data worked (and it was already converted to i9100). But backside of the phone near camera got overheated. Then I turned mobile data off and switched to wifi. Afterwards I can't remember that I could use mobile data.
