So I went about rooting and trying to install a custom ROM on my HOX+. I had TWRP Recovery installed, ROM manager installed and ready to go. Tried installing MIUI and it couldn't open the zip file (I stuffed up the download, wouldn't open on PC either). I couldn't access internal storage at this point so I then tried to follow a guide to use and RUU to fix it. The guide told me to LOCK my bootloader and then run the RUU. I locked my bootloader and then ran the RUU. The RUU came up with an error and stopped. I tried another two RUU's with no success.
At this point I have no idea on how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S
adb devices won't recognize the device but fastboot commands still work (reason why I was able to bootlock).
EDIT~ I have now unlocked the bootloader via htcdev. Tried with an RUU again, No success. Unknown Error, tells me to get the right RUU.
I'm having the same issues. I have a similar thread right below thus one. Check it out. Maybe we have the same issue ands can help each other

Hi Splittah,
Can you tell me which phones version you have? International or AT&T? Do you want to recover a fully working rooted device or you prefer to return your phone in its original state?
Also tell me which hboot version you have?
I have the international version. x.xx.707.xx
I successfully flashed a ported Miui ROM onto it after I got a recovery on there after I had no success in returning it to stock (or close to) so any help would be appreciated.
Hboot version: 1.35.0000

See post number 3 of this thread. Make sure your SDK tool is working and installed correctly, see HERE for a guide.
Once you will up and running it will be easier to install another custom ROM.

So I've been following the progress of the Evo 3D for a bit, decided ok I'll get one, and now am at a loss. I've tried every method posted on this site to try and unlock my phone, the TWRP method, Revolution, HTCDEV method, all of them, and none of them are working for me. With the HTC DEV method, I flash the unlock code.bin and there it stops. Tried running the RUU and I get errors, Revolution doesn't even support my hboot version and TWRP is also for older hboot versions. The only one I haven't tried is a method listed in the Express rom thread, there is supposedly a file called reboot3d.zip but the file isn't there anymore for me to try. I'm at my wits end. All I want is to flash a new rom and recovery, unlock my wifi tether and remove some bloatware, why is this so difficult? Has anyone had any success with an unlockable phone by any means? Please, any help would be appreciated.

the htc device method should work are you sure youre typing in the command this way
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
and are you using linux mac or windows as your computer operating system to do this
I assume u are getting stuck at step 13 with Hboot 1.50 unlocking. Htcdev method is the only method.
What is ur current Sw version. 2.08.651.3, 2.17.651.5, etc?
You need to run the matching full Sw Ruu or a more current one (exe or zip version), then the code will work. The Guide/flashing notes in my signature may help u.

A few of these pop up everyday huh?
Hello. So I've tried multiple times flashing ROMs to my device, and have always had problems somewhere along the line. The furthest I got was successfully flashing this ROM, but it ended up in a boot loop. I believed it was due to my device being S-ON, even though I've successfully rooted and unlocked my bootloader via HTCdev and thus I've been attempting to get S-OFF. I tried JuopunutBear but got an error message related to checking my adb and fastboot drivers (Which I'm fairly sure are up to date and working) and I think the problem is I am on HBOOT 1.57. I've been attempting to downgrade using this guide (Which uses Revolutionary to get S-OFF in which case I wouldn't need JuopunutBear). I only got a bit of the way in, however, before I got stuck. After relocking my device it tells you to put the RUU zip on your device, but my computer isn't detecting my device and I'm stuck in the bootloader. I've tried shutting it off, trying all the options in the bootloader, taking out the battery, entering commands into adb, and probably some other things I've forgot, but I'm still stuck on the bootloader and my device isn't detected at all on my computer (Either in command prompt or in the explorer window).
Essentially what I'm asking here is:
How do I get my phone unstuck from bootloader?
Do I need S-OFF to be able to flash ROMs?
If I don't need S-OFF, what was I doing wrong? Should I try a different ROM?
And I suppose I may as well ask if that's a worthwhile ROM. I want something that optimizes my device and allows for custom themes, but otherwise I'm not too picky.
Specs:
Windows Vista (With ADB and fastboot, as well as HTC Sync and other phone drivers. Essentially I think I have all the software I'd need installed.)
HTC EVO 3D CDMA with Virgin Mobile as the carrier.
HTCdev unlocked bootloader
S-ON
HBOOT 1.57
Stock ROM
4ext recovery
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
(Also I apologize if I didn't give all the information needed or if I posted this in the incorrect spot. I figured this would be the most appropriate spot since although I have issues with specific processes it's also a fairly general request for help.)
UPDATE: I tried re-unlocking my phone using HTCdev so I'm no longer stuck in bootloader. I'm going to be trying the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit guide again sometime today or tomorrow to see if I can get it working. I think one of the problems before was that I didn't put the RUU on the sdcard beforehand and then my device wasn't being recognized so i couldn't put it there then. If I put it on beforehand I should be able to update successfully and get past the step I was stuck on before.
If you're son u can only flash sence ROMs.

It will be your hboot causing the problems.
Most recoveries allow you to mount usb storage so you can use that option to connect to your pc and move the ruu across without removing your sdcard etc.

Okay, here's the biz. My wife's phone needs updated, and I'm not sure of the best way to do it. She's rooted and I want to keep it that way, as she needs her wifi-tether.
She's not s-off. I tried using moonshine and rumrunner to no avail, even though I had met all pre-requisites. rumrunner recommended I flashed a less-stable kernel and try it again. I'm not real interested in doing that.
I was trying to s-off so i could flash the OTAs that are on xda.
I have studied posts on here for about 4 hours now and have not come up with a solid answer.
The only things we need are root and the newest 3.17- firmware and possibly radios. Can anyone send me to the right place?
Can I just ruu the newest software?
Please. Thanks will be given.
Phone specs:
freshly ruu android 4.0.4
sense 4.1
software 2.13.651.1
s-on
bootloader unlocked
hboot 1.19.000
radio 1.12.11.0803
Check the top link in my sig. There is a link to all applicable RUU's at the bottom of the first post (I recommend reading the entire thread), including the 3.17 RUU and the newer 4.13 RUU. Running the RUU will update your software, firmware, HBOOT, etc. The RUU is probably the quickest way to get everything up to date, in my opinion. Just download whichever RUU you want to install to your computer, connect your phone to your computer while the phone is booted to the OS, double-click the RUU file and follow the on-screen instructions on your computer. You may also want to install HTC Sync to your computer, as well. After running the RUU you'll need to unlock your bootloader again, install a custom recovery and SuperSU for root access. If you want to S-off the phone once it's updated, again, check the top link in my sig for further info.

I tried using the ruu for the newest 4.XX and it wouldn't work. I guess I should just use 3.17.xxx?
NVM, I forgot to relock the bootloader before I tried the ruu.... now it's working. Thanks

Hey I'm trying to use windroid to unlock the bootloader again, but it's not recognizing the phone's status.. any help on unlocking that bloader?
Again, NVM I had to authorize the debugging on my phone.
Okay, I've ruu to the newest ota, which is 4.XX- and I have TWRP 2.7.0 but I can't figure out how to root it. I have tried flashing both of the super user files from the linked page in your sig, to no avail. I tried to flash them from twrp. Nothing. One app says it needs binaries, and the other one doesn't open. Not sure how to root at this point? I tried to push the superuser.zip files through adb shell and that didn't work either. stumped...

Okay, thanks, got it. Do I need a different kernel to s-off with rumrunner?
My friend made the mistake of following a youtube video and really messed up his phone. He has TWRP installed but he's S-On and deleted his restore image. The only thing that functions on this phone is HBOOT. The bootloader was relocked, and now I can't even access recovery. I need some help here. He was trying to get a custom rom installed, but he never went S-Off. Running the RUU provided in DirtyRacun wouldn't work even though it was for the correct HBOOT version. I have no idea where to start on fixing this thing. It is running HBOOT-2.09. I am very comfortable using adb and fastboot - I use it frequently with my HTC One. This almost seems beyond repair - but I'm pretty sure it is fixable. Please help. I have access to both a Linux and a Windows machine, so a solution involving either isn't out of the question. Since recovery isn't accessable, it has to be a fix involving fastboot and adb almost exclusively.
Have you tried to unlock the bootloader again? Once you unlock you can push a recovery to the phone and then flash a ROM. Remember, since he's S-on you'll have to install the kernel separately from the ROM (or use a ROM that has a S-on kernel installer). Hit the top link in my sig for more info.

I unlocked the bootloader again and got back in to TWRP. Because I am S-On I pushed MeanBean v284 onto the phone but the installation fails every time. I've tried wiping everything, formatting the partitions again, and I can't get past this point.
EDIT: My error says:
"E-Mount: Unable to find partition for path '/MeanBean-v284-jewel-ltevo.zip'
Error flashing zip '/MeanBean-v284-jewel-ltevo.zip'
Updating partition details..."
What version of TWRP and where did you get it?

2.7.0.0. He said it was linked from the xda forums. Also, I am going to try the rumrunner s off that was recommended on your guide right now. I can't enable USB debugging because there is no OS on the device right now.
You'll need to install a ROM before you can S-off.
Also, once you get recovery working again you may find the guide in the link below useful.

According to the MeanBean guide, it will work S-On. I'm not sure if you have to flash the kernel seperately, and on top of that I'm not sure how to do that. I haven't been able to find specific instructions other than using fastboot with a boot.img file. I haven't tried this yet with MeanBean, but it didn't work with the Viper Rom.
EDIT: I made it to the step where you flash the ROM (further than I've gotten so far today...). It says the kernel was not installed when installing MeanBean.
Just follow the directions in the ROM thread and you'll be fine. You essentially have to flash the zip file twice. If you want further info, click the top link in my sig.

After installing the second time, I am still getting the same: "ERROR: Kernel Not Installed!
Copying flashable ZIPs. to /sdcard/Meanbean
Please reboot now!
Updating partition details..."
I am gradually looking through all 949 pages to try to find a solution
EDIT 2: I tried flashing the boot.img file using fastboot as it said in your post to install the kernel. I am still getting that installation error.
The cell is not rebooting into the system, it stays on the HTC logo until the battery runs out.
I can boot into TWRP with no problem. :good:
I think all system got wiped. :crying:
I downloaded from HTC the: RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4.exe
But it is not working because it can't connect, I supposed it needs the system to work.
How can I unbrick my cell? I have never flashed a ROM before from TWRP, so I don't know exactly what is the file I need to download or the commands. The good news is that I do devOps so I'm used to the shell.
Can someone give me some guidance? :fingers-crossed:
Thanks!
That isn't the right RUU for the AT&T version. You would need to have the US Developer's Edition, or else have s-off and change to the Dev Ed CID or SuperCID, to use the "Brightstar" RUU. If you have the AT&T version, and still on the ATT CID, you need to use an AT&T RUU. I have them listed here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
You don't need a working system/OS to use RUU. But you will need to be in bootloader-fastboot mode (in recovery won't work), and relocked bootloader to RUU (unless s-off, in which case unlocked bootloader is okay). IF you meet all the requirements, and still having USB connection issues, you should try to re-install HTC Sync and HTC Drivers, try another USB cable, and try another USB port on the PC.
If you choose to flash a ROM in TWRP, all you need to do is get a ROM from one of the development threads:https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/orig-development
Then you can copy the ROM to the phone's storage using TWRP (to browse the storage); or alternately put the ROM on SD card, using a USB card reader. Then go to "Install" in TWRP and flash the ROM. This also assumes you phone is on relatively recent firmware (Lollipop or Marshmallow is okay for the current ROMs).
Thanks!
For some reason my device is S-On but it is rooted and I have installed TWRP
Please watch this image, it is a picture of the radios, data and all that. thanks!
http://prntscr.com/f11z85
I'm currently downloading the official RUU 4.28.502.1 (Android 5.0.2) from the list you sent me. thanks
By the way, I remember I paid for SunShine to s-off my device some time ago. For some reason, I did S-on again. I'm an idiot right!
I download today SunShine but it is an APK, how don't know how to install it with no system. am I screwed?
From the radio number on your screenshot, I believe it's on AT&T firmware (radio numbers for this phone starting "4.0...." are unique to AT&T). So therefore, the AT&T RUU should work.
But if you want me to determine more definitely, do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
You can't use sunshine with no OS. I agree that making the phone s-on was a mistake, as it serves little purpose unless you were returning the phone to HTC for warranty. But s-off is not needed to recover the phone. Simply using the proper RUU should work.
Once the phone is running properly again (can boot into OS) you can use the sunshine app, and should be able to s-off for no extra $, if you like.
