Hi All!
I am a new user to XDA forums but I have been playing around with phones since 2005. By playing i mean rooting, jailbreaking, etc.
However, I recently came across a Killx Kernel that sounded astounding so I flashed my HTC Butterfly x920D with the latest (as i am writing this) kernel; 2.3.1.
My question is, how do I maximise the Killx Kernel's power in my phone?
The reason why I am asking this is because in the XDA thread of the Killx Kernal, the developer had some really impressive results, however I ran some Antutu benchmark after flashing the Kernel but got some poor results.

Any information can be helpful,
Thank You!

Hey peeps,
Currently I'm in the possession of an HTC Sensation XE, but thinking about making the switch to the SGSII. However, some questions are still there and I was hoping that the helpful community here could help me answer some of these.
How is the Earphone quality? Anyone tried it with some decent pair of headphones yet and is able to tell me their experience?
Could someone with a "stock" SGSII (International model preferably) tell me about the gaming performance on the SGSII? I'm talking about games such as Dungeon Defenders, Wind-Up Knight and PSX/N64 Emulation. If entirely possible with a recorded video.
Same request above for a person who flashed a ROM
How does the SGSII perform with Tegra 2 games through Chain-something?
How is the battery life for both the "stock" SGSII and the Lite-ning ROM?
Could a person with a "stock" SGSII show me their benchmark scores after a reboot of the phone?
Same for a person running the Lite-ning ROM
The standard hardware acceleration which is present on the SGSII. Is the hardware acceleration only being applies to browsing and the UI? or also to applications and games?
In addition to the above questions, how will ICS affect the hardware acceleration on the SGSII? Will it be disabled in favor of the ICS style hardware acceleration or will they live together happily ever after?
My apologies for the kind of weird requests. But I do sincerely hope you guys can help me decide whether to get this device or stick with the Sensation XE.
Regards,
Vex

Oh man, many questions and I can only give a few answers:
1. Earphone quality is IMO good. As I do not have a Sensation XE, I can not compare it directly. There are some tests (Google search is your friend ;-) which might give a more experience-based opinion.
2. + 3. + 4. Can't say much about gaming performance, as I am not a gambler.
5. I am running a stock ROM (XWKJ1, Android 2.3.5) and battery life is OK for me. With permanent wifi on, no bluetooth, no GPS, permanent Skype and Google Talk, some email, often internet news and looking into xda-developers forum, a nightly charged battery has about 50% in the evening. So, with less usage my phone could work for about two days.
There are many custom ROMs, which are specialized for optimizing battery life.
You have to set your priority between battery life and performance.
6. Benchmark scores ... which benchmark?
On Quadrant Standard, I usually have 3000-4000 with the stock ROMs.
My actual score is about 3400 as I am running CF-Root kernel XWKI8, which is not based on the real stock kernel of my ROM (XWKJ1).
But to have more than 4000 points in Quadrant, I think you have to use a custom ROM specialized for performance or at least overclock the CPU.
7. No custom ROM.
8. Good question. I think that hardware acceleration is in general available for any app too ... but ... if any app will use it, I really don't know. Each manufacturer ans even each phone has a different hardware and therefore need a different hardware acceleration, so that would be a very hard job for a developer to get familiar with all available hardware-specific APIs. At least the app of the manufacturer itself (=> Samsung) should use hardware acceleration.
But I am not sure about even this.
9. Hmm ... complicated question. I heard that the SGS2 or better the hardware of the SGS2 is 100% compatible with IceCreamSandwich. And that's it. I have got no more infos about this topic.
I will think about such issues just before getting ready for flashing ICS onto my SGS2. Hoping that there will be more and official statements up to this moment.
Regardless of the fact that you aren't able to answer all the questions, I really do appreciate your reply to these matters.
2 Days on battery, that's quite amazing seeing as my XE only lasted for about 8-10 hours on normal use with Wifi on.
Quadrant scores are also quite impressive, even at stock.
I really do hope that someone can clarify more on the amtter of ICS' hardware acceleration. I'm eager to find out how it differs from the acceleration currently present on the SGSII

I'm on Androidmeda 2.5 with Siyahkernel 2.0. I can typically get about 4.5 to 5 hours of screen time.
It's my theory that the basic ROM itself shouldn't affect the battery life. It's the different init.d scripts of optimization and the kernel that will have *some* effect given that you don't OC/UC or OV/UV. Mostly it should be what apps you run in the background like facebook, skype, etc.
Also I find that having wifi and data always on doesn't affect my battery life too much if I disable background sync.
Thanks for that reply.
4-5 hours does seem a little meager though. Then again my Sensation lasted for about as long as that, if not less.
Eager to hear more opinions!
I wonder how effective the different ROMs are out there.
After performing S-OFF to my beloved EVO 3D I'm trying out the different cooked ROMs with the different flavors.
Apart from the feelings and "personal tastes" I wanted to have an objective point of view about the performance.
In order to do that, I installed Antutu Benchmark in every ROM I'm trying out and I want to share with you the results.
I didn't performed the same with the Vodafone Stock ROM so I don't have this report.
I know the limitations of this kind of software but I'm not comparing different devices. Just the same EVO 3D with alternative ROMs.
Anyway here is the first result from the ROM MikRunny V1.02

Honestly, benchmarks mean absolutely nothing. I don't know why people continually ask the question and use benchmarks to judge a phone/ROM. I used to have a Motorola Atrix, very similar to the Photon. The Atrix blew the 3D away in benchmarks and was nowhere near as fast. I have also used ROMs that were smoother than the next and scored lower on benchmarks. On the other hand I have also used ROMs that lagged a ton and scored higher on benchmarks. The only true way to find out which ROM is the fastest is to flash it and check it out. Also, a lot of phones act differently with different ROMs/kernels. My friend also has a 3D and what is fast and stable on my phone isn't always fast and stable on his phone.
Just check them out.
Sent from my ICS lovin 3D!!!
If I've helped you in any way... hit the "Thanks" button.
Well, As I stated, I know the limitations of these tests but I guess that using the same device could have a positive result.
In fact, I find some ROMs faster and smoother than others and I wonder to know 'how much' just to confirm 'my feelelings'.
For example, I found ROM KingCobra3D 1.8.1 a little bit slower than MikRunny although I have some issues with sound in this last one.
Here is the result when benchmarking the KingCobra ROM: http://imahgin.blogspot.com/2012/01/rom-kingcobra3d-181.html
I had results around 6500-7500 (Antutu Benchmarks points ) when i was using MIUI ROM ( forgot the kernel )

WOW, that's impressive. I'll give it a try.
I tried out Leedroid but I found it unstable. In fact it crashes when performing the Open GL test thus I can't see the overall results.
The best benchmark there is is just using your phone. Watch some videos, play some games, and just browse the web. If it seems fluid, then the phone is doing its job
That's understood.
Still fun.
I got 5517 with leedroid 5.1 and anthrax kernel. Oc to 1.51.

I agree with you. In fact that's what I'm doing. Every ROM that I install I perform a full testing specially video playing.
For example I found MikRunny ROM faster than others but the FM radio doesn't work so it's not suitable for me. I wonder how other users customize their EVO 3D and apply tricks to improve the phone.
This is not a competition, simply for fun.
Here's my ROM with chad's v9 kernel at 1.53 GHz
This is another review. Now I'm testing LeeDrOiD V5.1.0.
The prevoious version was very unstable for me -maybe because I didn't wipe the cache - but now it seems to work fine.
Attached you will see the result
Here's SteelH's rom [email protected] 1.51 with chads kernel

""shooter on Deck""
dont have a screen... but virus' 1.4 ODEXED with ziggy's latest kernel....
7500 in antutu... 4200 in quadrant... 17 seconds on RL bench...
that was on lag free governor at 1.72 ghz... ran it like that as a daily for a solid month.
To the people who always inevitably chime in that benchmarks are worthless: benchmark apps are a reference tool, and are rather useful for many aspects of testing out roms and kernels. Obviously their real world value is different. I'm sorry, it may just be me, but its sort of insulting to peoples intelligence for someone to always point out the obvious about the reality of benchmarks. They are however very use full and fun and very important as reference tools.
I bench everything, come on I'm a geek, like I wouldn't dyno my Ferrari if I owned one...
shesh, some people are no fun
anyway, I'm running ics now so I never used anutu on my previous setups, but my fastest was 4007 quadrant on joelz cm7 with one of the anthrax kernels, and 4000 on Airborne 2.3.4 with ziggys kernel.
oh ya both on lag free at 1.72
Hi All,
First of all I wanted to say what a fantastic site and community XDA has here. I am new here and have been looking at the forums for a rom to try on my i9300 (Samsung galaxy s3 unlocked international). I have my phone rooted and in the past, have tried ultimarom 13 / 14 / 15. It is an awesome rom, with lots of features. The only problem is that after I install my collection of apps, I tend to run into problems. My swiftkey slows down when typing and when I check the memory usage (RAM) then it is nearly always running out (normally under 30mb free).
I have checked out some other roms (cyanogen mod 15 and pardus hd rom).
With Cyanogenmod I achieve the fastest hsdpa speeds with virgin (around 7 - 8mb downloads I9300CEEMG2 modem by default). It seems like a basic rom and one or two things crash.
With the latest pardus hd rom it looks nice with quite a few options (with hsdpa download speeds of around 2 - 2.5mb, uses a different modem) and a few configurable options.
With Ultimarom 15, it has tons of configurable options (with hsdpa download speeds of around 2 - 2.5mb, uses a different modem) and no noticeable crashing apps, the only problem is that I am mostly experiencing slowdowns and running very low on memory.
I have had a look at the forums regarding ultimarom and have not noticed anyone mentioning anything about the running out of space issue that I have.
I have also done Google searches to try and find reviews about the latest versions of these roms but have not had any luck. So I wanted to ask this community about their opinions about these three roms and also to find out peoples recommendations for me and advice.
Thank you in advance

Hi there guys and gals. Having a bit of a problem with an S3 Mini exact model is GT-I8910N. Not my first Samsung root as I've done an S2 with dual boot kernel before. My question doesn't relate to which is the best. I am asking for viable ROMs which will reduce battery drain and overclock my cpu. I've used cyanogen on a g2 back in froyo. I've looked into virginity too and the crossover script part confuses me as I've normally just gone through odin and dealt with prepackaged kernels and roms. Which have it all combined. So I am looking for advice on roms but all viable roms not which is best. I can make that choice myself essentially. I'm wanting one with a reduced battery drain. CPU overclock. Bloatware removed and reduced down to as minimal as possible. An explanation of crossover would be greatly appreciated as well as known alternatives. Also am I limited to what types due to the N? I've read there's also an L and an International versions. Assuming that mine is an N as it's in the model number as seen in screenshot. Also is a rollback needed?
Hi,
I've had a massive hiatus from playing around in the custom ROM scene as my last few phones have had practically zero support. I've just bought a 2nd hand Le Max 2 and find myself a little out of my depth, there's just so much information here that it's hard to work out what's what..
It has TWRP installed and is currently running EUI 5.6.013S. I suppose my first question is if everything seems to be behaving (no fingerprint issues) is it worth updating things? What are the advantages of the firmware updates from https://sourceforge.net/projects/lineageos-for-x2/files/Firmware%20Updates/? What is the "best" ROM (a subjective question I know), especially when it comes to maintaining a decent battery life?
If it makes a difference, it's an x820 and I'll be using it on band 20.
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is all a bit nooby.
