I've had my L9 for about a month now and have been trying to (simply) root it to remove the excessive amount of T-mobile bloatware.

then no, there is no 1 click root. just lelus' method.
Haven't heard of that yet. Only bin4ry (binary) root method but it seems so complicated. Could you possibly post a link?

Lelus is it for us, I'm afraid. It isn't horrible but certainly not one click. Lol. After rooting, save your root with the OTA Root Saver app if you want to update to Jellybean. Then you can reapply the saved root. And use the search function. Spoon feeding is frowned upon.
It's more of a 10 or 15 click method.

Should be able to push everything through from sdcard on your phone, as long as your typing correct commands into your terminal emulator. Can find the instructions with the file links.

For rooting, this is what worked for me.

Success has been reported in post 15 of the same thread. Also, check out the stickys, particularly "Read Here First. All things MoPho". The best info is kept there.

Ok, so I'm on the edge to root my Samsung Galaxy S3 (AT&T), but I have one concern. Jellybean is supposed to land on this phone in a month, and I was wondering that when I root my phone (no custom ROMs) can I update to jellybean OTA with the root, and have no problems?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
It's gonna be best to un-root before doing the eventual OTA update because it can play havoc with your phone otherwise.
If you stayed rooted and still done the OTA, the best case scenario is that it'll simply take your root status away, but it can cause more problem than simply that.
Sent from Stephen Hawking's rooted wheelchair
What's worse case scenario? And it is usually easy to unroot
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm not too sure what the worst case scenario is, I just remember reading it not long ago.
I didn't word that last post too well to explain properly. If you're only rooted then you'll be fine to do the OTA. It's if you have CWM installed that errors can happen.
So, you're fine to root but you'll have to re-root once you've done the update.
Sent from Stephen Hawking's rooted wheelchair
Ahhhh okay. So if I root and stay on stock ROM ( I'm not playing to put on any custom ROMs anytime soon) I can update OTA, and everything will go well, and then I'll just root again?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
It says I need to install CWM Recovery for the root

Many people run rootkeeper or the like to take OTA updates without issue. Haven't seen having root causing issues, just taking updates after erasing bloatware.
So if I root, I shouldn't have any problem updating to jellybean OTA?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure you will. I rooted my phone and couldn't do a OTA so I just went with a custom rom that updates. Best decision ever
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
But what if I don't install any ROMs
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm sure the devs in your forum will offer a stock rooted ROM based off the OTA. So just keep your root and wait for them. Hell . They often release theirs before the official push.

Some devs here are starting to work on their OTA updates for their ROMs. Otherwise, most devs here work at a much faster pace to release their updates than any manufacturer or carrier will.
So its impossible to straight up OTA from your device if your rooted with no ROMs installed?? I don't want to wipe out my data and restore my backup all for a "ROM" because I can't update legittimatly from the OTA server

Its possible to receive ota updates... do it like this.. root your device.. don't remove bloatwares.. don't install custom kernel or rom.. then unroot your device before trying to use ota updates... it works for me.. so no worries..

Pretty much like this. But it makes rooting quite limited, so I don't see why you would go throught the hassle when a custom ROM is a waaayy better choice. Just my opinion, though

Have you tried disable?
sent from my locked rooted P769 v20f
I'm on YouTube (BioDesigner48)
You're able to disable it, but that's it. If you root you can "quarantine" them and it's sort of a more powerful form of disabling. It stops them from ever starting up again and saves a ton of memory, RAM and physical. Now, why would you not want to root? Why not use the LGPwn?
Because if I root the phone I void the warranty and void T-Mobiles Jump program and would have to pay full price. I only got this phone because my HTC Sensation no longer works and I needed a phone to hold me over until a phone came out that I actually wanted.
You can just as easily unroot, lol.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this. I think we should pool our efforts and provide a collective bounty to a dev that can successfully unlock the bootloader without having to flash 20b euro kdz.
I will start by officially offering $25. Come on, guys... we can do this.
UPDATE: Here is the total so far....
Me: $25
fastwanabe: $25
jpeterson066 $20
Total: $70

Nice to see somebody stepping up to put their money towards this. Since there's no development here, I think this will probably be moved to the general section.
Anyways, if somebody could figure out a way to automatically flash the European ICS firmware followed by the JB firmware, unlocking the boot loader would be as easy as enabling USB debugging then waiting 30 minutes, then inputting the OEM unlock code.
Even better, if a talented developer could reverse engineer the lg KDZ flashing tool like other developers did with ODIN, unlocking the boot loader and unbricking a soft brick would be so much easier.

The problem with offering money for this is, in a month or two when there's an easier method, you would've already successfully unlocked its boot loader because you did sufficient research and you didn't give up after you failed a few times. Granted some of the tutorials could be rewritten or simplified, I know the one I used was written in horrible English by an Indian fella and it took me a while.

I linked in the other thread to a very informative link about porting Loki (titled tried to port Loki and failed).
