This phone recently started slowing down significantly. Sometimes when exiting an app and returning to main screens it will say "loading." It may sit that way for a few minutes before displaying the UI. Names aren't always displayed for phone numbers and text msg's. It now takes a while to load a text msg thread. Even after I deleted all messages. I didn't make any changes to the phone prior to this starting. Any thoughts?

I am assuming your phone is stock. Have you tried something like App Cache Cleaner? It might also be that all of your memory is being used by running apps, try killing ones that you have installed but are not using, and make sure they do not start in the first place if possible. Also consider OS Monitor to see if you can pinpoint processes which are hogging resources.

It seems to freeze up a lot. I will select apps and they do nothing, same with downloads from the market. They just hang at showing them as downloading.
I use SPB Shell and sometimes when it does this it will also stick between pages rather than just flinging to the next it will actually just stop in between pages until you continue to scroll though.
When I select links to open, it does nothing until I actually open the browser. I have only had the phone for a few days and it worked fine, now its doing all these weird things.
Anyone got any suggestions or ideas, let me know otherwise I'm afraid I may be taking it back...
Something may be wrong with the phone. I haven't experienced none of that. Even out the box. Actually its been so fast for me that if I experience the littlest bit of lag it drives me nuts. Might be hard ware related.

LOL dude you have the data guard enabled. There is a setting in their that holds downloads and other things in a queue until you are using WiFi in order to save battery. Just disable that and you'll be on your way And the SPB Mobile Shell problem is probably a problem with the app. Contact the developer and tell them about it. There aren't many nVidia Tegra 2 phones out there so it's not very likely they have done much testing on the architecture. Also, what kind of links are you talking about? Like a link you receive in a text message?

I used to have the same problem with apps not responding after pressing. I was using adw launcher I reverted back to stock and everything is good now. Emailed the developer about the compatability and waiting for an answer but the photon is good otherwise

Yeah it really sounds like you have Data Saver enabled which is located under Battery & data manager in the phone settings. If not you may want to exchange the phone as faulty. I have a lot of issues which my Photon: stuttering during music playback, random reboots (twice in 2 weeks so far), and feedback when using the audio out (buzzing / static). These seem to be common problems but the performance issues you are mentioning do not seem normal from what I have read in these forums.

You would be correct. Although i went from the Hero to an LG Optimus S, and now the Photon.
No problems like that with SPB Shell here. Check the data saver mode. You can also try changing the vm heap to 48 or 64. Mine is on 64 but never had an issue with the stock setting either.
Update...
It does appear that it was SPB Shell which sucks because I was really liking it. I will send a message to the dev and see what happens. The funny thing is that is was working great the first few days that I was using it and then started acting up which was why I didn't thing it was SPB

How do you get it that high? I am using VM Heap Tool and the highest it will let me check is 48.
It's not data saver. Or it shouldn't be. It's an Android flaw.
I've had an Incredible, Thunderbolt and then Photon. Which means I've used a few Android phones over a couple of networks (more if you consider the 4G's as their own networks).
99% of the time my phones work fine. Every so often it will stall downloading an app, or an email will just sit on sending for a longggg time. Unless I am recreating the same conditions over three phones and two networks I think this just happens every once and a while.

I'm glad you found the issue, this right here always tells me it was something you installed that caused the problem. When it worked fine out of the box and then....
Just watch what you install, install one app at a time and see how it flows for awhile after each app. Yes, it may take awhile to get all your apps on but you will know what apps are causing you issues! Like a previous poster said, there aren't many T2 phones, so just be careful what you install!
Glad you found the problem!

I was wondering if I modified the Limit background processes setting (which is found under "settings > developer options", would it help or hurt anything? I am not sure how the different options may effect the regular performance/battery of the phone. Any insight would be great, thanks!
I limit mine to 4 cause I don't like having so many apps open. It seems that after a while or reboot it goes back to the default though.

Yeah I do the same, but wondering if I I set it to 0 if that would cause any issues. I know when I clear RAM sometimes it would close up to 10+ or more and I'm confused as to why it had that many since I usually close everything and exit. Basically, I'm not sure what essential things may be running that this setting would effect?
No matter how many processes or apps you think you close by doing stock memory clean, they will come back shortly. The only way to make sure they stay innactive is to disabled them at start-up, just like in Windows or any Linux version. You choose which ones u want at start-up. I use Rom Toolbox by JRummy for that. You can easily control many things with that app. As for which ones are essential or not, it totally depends on what u do with the phone (ur personal use). Try and see what depends on what when u close things. That's the only way)) we all walk through that at some point!

One more thing, don't be afraid shutting down apps at start-up, if something starts malfunctioning, u can always turn it back on.

I've noticed when i set it to 'at most 3 processes' the phone seems quicker. But I really don't understand it and I'm assuming it can cause app failures?
Should i just keep it at standard limit? Thanks!

It's exactly what it states ....
A control of running processes in the background , that directly pull from ram memory.
I set mine at 3, but get some FC's on occasion ,as the device is likely binding some needed processes and forces a restart ...
When I'm running an official build , I leave the setting at standard due too the large number of TW processes needed for a stock build.
Otherwise it's 3.
But honestly , I feel that it's greatest value might be the no processes setting to control background stuff like maps and Facebook etc. As these apps will restart by themselves over and over unless frozen or removed.
Play around with it a bit , as the risk is pretty low. It definitely speeds up the device if you can get around the FC issue ...g
In this thread, you can complain about your own problems. Also, you can help other people so they stop griping. But really. Feel free to ask questions. Such as:
Does anybody else have issues when switching screens?
For example, on some launchers (occasionally even Asus', others including nova and apex) , the icon/sprites get smaller when undocking from the tablet.
Answer other people's questions if you know how.
Thanks,

idk where on xda i read that the whole dynamic display feature relies heavily on zen ui ( asus ui ) .. so without it it wont be as smooth as we expect it to be. Heres a huge bug ive noticed... art runtime wont work at all !

Could you remind me, what exactly is dynamic display? Is it just the tab?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using the XDA app
Dynamic display is in display settings that allows you to add apps to a list so the tablet can transition between phone and tablet mode without a popup message saying you need to restart the app. It's a compatibility list

Are most of the issues about Dynamic Display concerning when switching from phone mode to tablet mode and vice a versa? If so, I do not understand the emphasis this has gotten. It is rare I need an app to stay open when switching, I think because as the unit is being switched I am also in transition. Usually this means closing out an app, then undocking the phone, putting it in my pocket, and off I go.The apps I may use during the transition, the call and text apps, do seem to transfer well. The pop-up menu can be disabled. Apps seem to display well in both the phone and tablet mode when not switching.
I realize some users could find this problematic but the issue seems a bit overblown. I would think my experience of use would be the rule rather than the exception.
Your thoughts.

I've had that same error multiple times on the phone screen when I remove it out of the tablet dock. In addition to that error
I have a certain procedure when inserting the phone into the tablet dock.
1 - I pull up the gallery and click on any picture
2 - with the picture in full screen I insert the phone in the tablet dock
3 - the picture shows itself in all its glory in the tablet and then i can hit home and end up on the tablet home screen
The KICKER I can't let the tablet screen time out or press the screen off button or else the tablet never comes back on....
I have to remove the phone from the dock and I get the android.ui error message on the screen.
I can't put the phone in with screen off, or device off or it will never display, very annoying and hopefully will be resolved by Asus.
Considering this is Asus's 5th or 6th gen of this device, you would tend to believe that they got the whole phone tablet dock errors
resolved. But I'm sure errors resurface when ever there is a new android os.
Has anyone else experience the same problems as me?
In any webpages in Chrome I get a crash when switching
Art issues here as well, i dont get a bootloop, mine just hangs on the boot logo. I left it for about 40 mins knowing the art runtime takes a while to switch over, but i finally got frustrated, had to factory reset from the recovery menu. Tried with fastboot enabled and disabled, no luck either way

chile5o,
Mine does the same thing where the tablet will freeze up and then won't turn back on after the error messages. Then I get an unresponsive black screen. This is my 2nd unit as I exchanged one already for the same issue and Both do the same thing. I Don't know if it is a software or hardware issue. Some apps and widgets apparently don't play nice with the the padfone station.

It appears that you both have some huge problems. Many of my issues were resolved when getting Padfone Switcher and Padfone Controller. They are both results under "padfone" the search bar in the play store. (Sorry for lack of links)
You can control which launcher for the phone and the tab. I chose Nova for phone, Asus/Apex for tablet.
Tell me if your issues are still occurring (post configuring the apps, of course)

Hi. I recently posted on this forum coz I always only had 120 free MBs and my smartlhome started to go pretty slow without any reason. When I was typing on whatsapp it suddenly closed, I couldn't send any instant camera pictures because camera suddenly closes too, etc...
So I decided to root my phone and uncheck the 2 options of MLT Test (Enable option and USB depurate option) and seems like I get more free mbs but now the RAM it started to get short again, Im still gettin 150mbs again and thats annoying....
There is any solution ti fix this? Im using Clean Master too.
Greetings.
Ps. I got an app of my Phone Company and I dobt know how to unibstall it, it is desactivated but I couldnt find thr way to erase it, I've tried many explorers but didn't show up.

Disable mlt is always a good way of gaining a little more ram, also the longer you have your phone running, the more it'll start lagging. So restart it for at least every time you charge it again. Also a bit more than that. Clearing caches isn't always the right solution, due to the fact that your phone has to load everything again, and it is sometimes quicker if you already have the apps cache there as the app will start quicker. If you have a lot of your apps running in the background, messenger, Facebook etc which are quite heavy when it comes to taking up ram, either delete them, or find apps which automatically close certain apps you choose yourself, and remove them from starting on boot.

Completely forgot to mention, if you go into developer settings, then there should be a ProcessStatics or something, it's also called geeky stats, in there it tells how the memory status is, which is the thing managing ram and so on, you can click on every app and see how much it uses and so on, its quite handy. And I'm not sure about the temperature, it doesn't sound alarming so it should be fine
