Alright so ill start this of by saying, Picked up my note today and loving it so far. Got it rooted thanks to Da G and getting ready to get into roms.
Anyway im making this thread to see if anyone else has tried anything out on the non-AT&T notes(i.e I717M and what not). So far from what i have read people are developing mostly for the AT&T model and saying its not for bell rogers or telus. Now I have been in the samsung world for a while and when it comes to my galaxy there was always ways around this.
For instance most of my ROMs were made for the international version not my bell version. But as long as I kept a copy of the bell modem on my phone i could just flash that and the ROM worked great. So does anyone have a copy of the bell telus or rogers modem for the note? or know if there all the same?
Another example in the galaxy s world was the captivate(Same soft keys as our phones). A person with a captivate could flash an international ROM as long they made a soft key fix when they developed the ROM.
One of the main reasons I ask all of this is because i see so many N7000 ROMs up and running and am wondering what will and wont work.
Look forward to hearing from you all

you can get all the carrier radio/modem, and even the kernel from carrier here:

Bell note here. Been. The at & t roms with no problem.
The only issue that I have is the Yellow Pages crap that appears in my contact list as well as at& t bloat depending on the rom. Easy enough to deal with though.
Aside from that, it's been perfect.
Currently on Team Perfection 4.0.4.

I forgot to add that I haven't had any issues with data speeds at all.
Also, Don't venture into the N7000 roms because they will not work.

The N7000 ROMs can hard brick your phone since the hardware if the two models are completely different. AS Far as ROMs go, most are based off the AT&T software simply because that's the only ICS leak we have available. But you can use any ROM for the i717 on your Bell Note. I have a Bell Note and flashed almost every ROM and never ran into any problems. Also, Ruth the help ofa lot of people on this sure, I've made stock images of the Bell, Telus, and Rogers Notes so we can always go back. Best if luck and don't hesitate to ask anything.
Thanks for the info, I get mine today and was wondering the same thing.
Yesterday I flashed my Rogers Branded Galaxy i717 with Bell Rom and Kernel and have not 1 issue. I chose to flash the rogers i717 with Bell because I use bell mobiletv and this was the only way to get this particular app to work. Again not 1 issue with data or anything else.
No Rooted device either. Just flashed using ODIN.
I'm currently running the UCLE2 Rom on my Rogers i717. I've noticed that I am not getting LTE where I should be. And GPS connectivity is shoddy at best.
I have a second i717 which is stock that is with me to compare (family member).
I am going to flash the Rogers modem to hopefully correct atleast the LTE issue. Anyone know if this would improve my GPS connectivity as well?
For a number of years I have been buying Canadian phones to use on ATT. Canadain ROMs have less restrictions than ATT. For instance tethering and NFC are not locked. Also after rooting my Roger's Note it took under a minute to remove the Rogers branding. (all except splash screen) I was left with a fully optioned unbranded ROM.
I did want to try the stock UCLE2 ROM out of curiosity but I thought it would not install because my phone was not an ATT I717. How did you install it eugenekim618? Personally I would rather wait for the Rogers ICS version. Keep checking everyday to see if it is available.
I have tried quite of a few of the ROMS on here with my Bell i717M, no problems at all so far, other than the "android.phone has stopped working" at startup, I don't know the cause but it only happens at boot.
DO NOT use N7000 roms! But all of the AT&T stuff has worked great for me.

I followed the posts in the Dev section to Root the phone.
Then installed CWM.
The picked a ROM I thought was good and followed the instructions in it's respective post to install.
I've done a lot of ROM installs for the Dell Streak I used to have and for a Sony Xperia X10.
So I am not totally unfamiliar with the process. Just a matter of getting used to the delivery method for each manufacturer. And then, dealing with the quirks of a ROM that is not 100% for your carrier. Goes with the territory, right?
I tried to read all the posts in a given thread as much as I can.
So you are saying you didn't install the one click odin stock UCLE2 ROM?

No, that doesn't work for non AT&T phones I believe. I tried it, and ODIN recognized the COM, but failed to install. From my readings, can't do the one click install on Rogers since it's not a Rogers ROM.
all custom roms should work no problem, ive flashed tons on my unlocked bell note.
its the stock odin files when you want to make sure you get the proper device.
Hey guys Ive flashed pretty much all the roms I can and some I cant lol. So far my experiances have encountered a few setbacks but nothing substantial and allot if not most of the bugs and glitchs occurring in the first & second gen of roms have been fixed or patched.
As far as roms go as was already mentioned as long as you stay away from n7000 model roms and stick to i727 youll be ok. With at&t roms I always seem to have signal and gps issues. Generally tho I find my signal problem will clear itself up on its own and I believe is actually just just caused by the fresh software 'settling in', even though my signal appears low or fluctuating speed testing always shows Im getting peak d/l & u/l speeds. If the signal doesnt seem to improve flashing the Bell stock modem via cwm always does the trick. Gps usually works great, very fast & accurate, when Im having location issues I use the 'faster fix' app from the market, I dont know about anyone elses experiance but allot of the times theres a problem the gps server isnt set to the normal 'north america pool' but servers Ive never seen before or set to an 'international pool'.
All in all besides signal headaches the only other recurring problems are the inherent and unpredictable random force closing of system apps. It can be pretty random but I find a few constant trouble makers to be at&t software update, android phone. At&t update can be disabled easily under applications in the main settings or I was able to actually remove it using 'rom toolbox's app manager but strangely not with root toolboxs remove system apps. For pretty much all other f/c problems the remedy is a running of 'fix permissions', there are a bunch of ways/apps to do it and Ive found using 'rom manager' works the best meanwhile rebooting into recovery and fixing permissions from there will actually cause more problems.
Ok so those are the most recurring and annoying issues Ive had to name a few but the list is too big to write merely because Ive tried just about every rom right from the sketchiest unstable first releases and everything in between lol so feel free to drop me line if your stuck on a problem cause I might be able to help.
But before I end this novel here lol I just flashed the new 'OnlyOne Beta2' rom from the development section and it runs great. The rom is super stable, very fast and features both fully functional S Voice app and fully functional S Notes app. If you havnt tried S Notes yet its awesome the new functions and abilities totally blew me away so I highly recommend you give this rom a try!

If you had LTE before and lost it through flashing a custom ROM or whatever then try changing your APN to your Carrier LTE network. If you never had LTE when you bought your phone, probably the seller gave you a wrong sim. tell her to give you a 403 LTE capable sim, the 401 is only 4G.

Thanks for the tip. But I got everything running again. I did have LTE to start, and have a LTE sim card. The *#2263* certainly helped. And Flapjaxxx's GPS tools in his ROM helped me get the GPS back up to par.

ok now I just lost my LTE after flashing new ROM from Seraphim Stratosphere. How did you get it back. I factory wipe everything and flash Rogers modem and it doesn't work. How did you manage to get LTE back? btw I have a Canadian Note with Rogers. the Saurom ROM was canadian and I had LTE too.

Try *#2263#
Then force select LTE, and select ALL. That should force the LTE connection. So watch the connection bars. You should see a loss of connection, then reconnect on LTE. Once that is established, do the code again, and just select automatic.

When I try dialing it, it says error can't find USSP or something like that... What does this mean?
Just to be clear that im doing the right thing. I go to the dialer and punch the code *#2263#. How do I "force select LTE"? will something popup for me to select it or should I go to settings/ wireless and networks... I don't have those options in "wireless settings", I only have APN settings...
Hi. Hope you can help me with something which is really annoying me.
Got my s3 right at the beginning on o2 with o2 firmware. When making phone calls the reception was crystal clear. I have updated various different versions of ics and jb and ever since the first update a few months ago the reception/radio quality has been poor. It started when I flashed a non o2 firmware, I flashed a stock btu firmware. Since then I have tried various firmwares on various providers and always have the same problem. If I change my phone to gsm only the call quality is fantastic but as soon as I put to auto it sets to hsdpa and goes back to poor call quality, even if I have a full bar for reception. I have since changed the csc to btu on phone and flashed various firmwares again and I still have the problem. I cannot have a £500 phone and be forced to use a 2g signal!
If it was poor from day one I would blame o2 reception but I have lived in this house for 7 years and never had this with other phones, also as said this phone was great originally but after flashing various firmwares it's rubbish now. I am currently using the new o2 jb update released today (my phone csc is btu) I hoped this flash would resolve issue but it hasn't.
Hope this makes sense and hope anyone can give me any tips to resolve my problem! Current signal strength 89dBa 12asu and still poor.
Thanks in advance.

have you tried to flash a O2 modem? maybe it does the trick!
I have the exact same problem however I am on the 3 network. My phone was working perfectly, then I installed the latest 3 branded jellybean ROM, had the exact same problem as you reverted back to stock ICS and the problem is still there. Can you tell me is the bad quality call both ways or just one way? For me it can hear people perfectly well, however the receiving end there is very bad quality. Also my Internet is incredibly slow.
Mine is the other way round, who I speaking to can hear me clearly but it's terrible from my end.
I have used Odin to flash a whole o2 Rom by clicking the pda option but it made no difference. Doesn't matter what stock Rom I flash and change the csc and factory reinstall it won't go back to how it was originally. As mentioned I can resolve the problem by using 2g/gsm network but then using the internet is terribly slow. Should have left it alone!
Have you changed the CSC to both your Original O2 CSC and the BTU CSC? How is your internet speed while on 3G? mine is so slow, half the time it just displays the 'Page timed out' page
My phone was originally o2u csc on o2 firmware and was good.flashed a btu firmware and this made it bad reception so flashed back to o2 firmware and it was very poor still so I flashed back to the btu firmware and changed csc to btu but I still have bad call quality. I presume because I flashed a o2 firmware from sammobile it will be back to a o2 modem?
My 3g data is about 4mb down and 2mb up.
Can anyone help us?
My ping is over 1000 and my download rate is 740kb/s and upload is around 27kbs while on H+ clearly this is very bad. I've tried different radios to no avail.
Since flashing to the latest jb btu firmware my problem has gone!
Hi Just wondering if anyone else has been having this issue.
Phone was working absolutly fine untill the portico update popped up (uk ee). update completed fine and phone restarted.
But since then i have been losing my signal totally, mostly when the phone goes into standby.
The only way to get it back was to restart the phone. I then phoned nokia support who asked me to do a hard reset. My phone then got stuck on the spinning cogs. after a few attempts of trying to soft reset i managed to get the phone to work but still same issue.
so then i phoned ee shop who said they would try flashing latest firmware and if that fails then they will send it away to service centre or replace.
so i decided i'd try flash it myself first using navifirm. Which i did using latest firmware. but still no luck.
so then finally before i take it to store i thought i'd try downgrade firmware and guess what...so far (fingers crossed) still got signal.
dont know if its just my phone but its ceratinly not happy with either the portico update or one of the other updates nokia bundled with it.
just thought i'd share my findings incase anyone else was having this issue.
edit: have just tried flashing a cv gb 1004 portico firmware as i didnt want to miss out on the new features and touchwood all seems to be well so far and no signal drops.
Hey
Yeah same here, upgraded last night all went fine, but today the signal has been up and down like a yoyo, also the battery is almost out !!! normally I would still have 50% left at this time of day, I just checked and I have 22% not great at all.
maybe the upgrade altered some settings ?
I will keep an eye on this for a day or so I think......
Having the exact same problems updated last night. How do I go about flashing back
Same here with my unlocked 920 since the Portico update, so it's not just the EE network. Mind you being as I always get a choppy signal at points maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge.
FIX
Hi guys I have a fix for this issue, drop the highest connection speed down in your settings from 4G to 3G

im using the gb.cv.1004 rom now and i believe though this has the portico update it does not have the same issues. i can not see an option for 4g in the network settings so this maybe why.
though ill wait untill others confirm this fix before i flash back to ee.1017 rom.

Signal issues (ee) since portico update Lumia 920
Thanks to Maggot82. Received portico update, signal then dropping in and out all over the place. Went into settings/network, changed the defaulted option from 4G as the highest connection speed to 3G and now 5 bars of signal and constant.
Worked for me and certainly a less hassle route to try first before thinking to flash different updates to your phone.
Good job, ta.

I had already done this but this issue seems to have resolved itself anyway.
no trouble guys, your welcome.
My 920 came preinstalled with Portico and I had no problems the first week or so. Since last week I have had two occasions where the phone has either restarted or just reinitialized the radio because it asked for the SIM-pin when I took it out of my pocket. And the days after that I noticed a few occasions where the signal was lost altogether for a minute or so.
My phone was set to 3G max speed from the start.
So, are there some radio-related issues with the Portico ROM? And is it Nokia's firmware or Microsoft's WP8 code?

i think there are some issues with the certain portico firmware. i have reflashed to ee uk 1017 and changed the setting from max 4g to max 3g and that resolved the signal dropping issue (thanks maggot).
however i have noticed that the signal is not as good as the gb.cv.1004 rom. so i dont think its a portico issue, more so that it may be the carrier related firmware updates that are causing issues.
not sure if the update was a full update
My OS version number and Firmware number has not changed since portico! the OS version number that I have is 8.0.9903.10 and the Firmware Revision # is 1232.2110.1244.3011. I know for fact that the Portico's FW version is meant to be 1232.5951.1249.0001 or higher, depending on region/network etc.
My phone has your symptoms, i.e calls drop out and very poor reception at times, plus, heating up massively and subsequently maximum 5-6 hours of battery life!
I have given numerious feedbacks to Nokia, but I guess I have to just go down the route of taking it to them to fix/change! mine was originally from Phones4U in UK (Sim free, which I found out that was locked to EE!), £35 to unlock and now on TescoMobile.
Could you please state your OS and Firmware versions, so we know that we are talking about the same release?

And this friends is what happens when you can't leave well enough alone and have to go to something other than stock. If it is not broken the why fix it?
So, I've got an LG US998 that I have Unlocked the bootloader on to try out some custom roms with. Every thing works fairly well and I'd love to stick with a given custom rom for more than a day to really try them out. However, so far i've had no luck with that because of an issue I'm having with Verizon Services. So lately, I've had to stick with Stock US998 or VS996 for now.
The problem:
On any custom rom (yes, even stock based ones like BoomBox/AIS etc...) I cannot send or receive SMS messages, MMS messages, or receive Phone Calls and their respective Visual Voicemails. I have 4G LTE connection with expected signal strength. The LTE Data works fine (ie. I can browse the web over 4G etc..) and calling some one from the phone also seems to work fine.
The catch:
A brief moment after completing a successful call with anyone, I can enjoy about 5 minutes of everything working perfectly! Text messages I missed start rolling in, missed calls and their respective Voice Mails sync up. and text messages pending to be sent get sent successfully. Even MMS messages work fine. I can enjoy about 5 to 10min of this before the phone returns to the previously mentioned behavior without warning.
I have looked at the forums for people with a similar problem for quite a bit over the last week or two and haven't found people with my exact problem. Is this something I need to take up with Verizon themselves? But their service works flawlessly on stock US998 and VS996 firmware so I don't see how it could be with Verizon. I'm at a loss
Any one with some insight? I'd really appreciate it.

If it was just texts, I'd ask if you're using Textra. There's a setting Verizon users need to change. But it has to be something else. I know they're other Verizon users on custom ROMs in this forum. So it has to be something with your setup?
Sent via open market LG US998 V30/V30+
I faced the same problems with vs996 to 998. I gave up trying to get a rom to work right. Something is going on and don't think there's a solution. Changing modem.bin, APN settings, etc doesn't keep connectivity. I've searched and don't think there's a solution. I just gave up and living with stock root. Hopefully someone can figure this out.
Over the weekend I was able to test my phone in another state and found no change in the behavior. I'm inclined to believe It may be an issue with my SIM or particular phone hardware. I'll keep messing with some things as I think of them and try to see If I can learn more.
I'm pretty new to both rooting and this website, so I apologize in advance for any newbie mistakes I'm gonna make.
Background:
I have a VS-996 which frankensteined and unlocked by following this post . After doing that I flashed pie and then flashed lineage os from here . That rom wasn't very stable and kept crashing, so I tried others. I wound up going with Havoc OS. I believe it was in 3.4 when I first flashed it. I've kept up with the updates up to 3.7.
The Problems:
Havoc OS works fine for me, very stable, except for some reason phone calls and messages(both sms and MMS) are spotty at best. Sometimes texts won't send at all, or they'll act like they sent but the text won't be recieved. Sometimes my phone will say I can make emergency calls only. Group messages and sending pictures don't seem to work at all, at any time. These issues seem most prevalent immediately after booting my phone up. Data works perfectly except sometimes when the phone doesn't like to register that the SIM is inserted for a little bit after booting up.
What I've tried:
I've tried reinstalling the rom.
I've tried installing different Android 10 roms.
I've tried going through the process again starting at the the Frankenstein method and going from there.
I've tried messing with the apn
If I flash back to a stock pie ROM everything goes back to working perfectly, and I'm using my sim in my old V20 while I try to sort this out, so I know the SIM is not to blame.
I've been unable to find anybody else with this particular problem, though that could just be because the problems cover so many different aspects that I'm not sure exactly how to search for answers.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

There's an LOS ROM bug for Verizon SIM card users where upon rebooting the phone you have to make a phone call first to then receive texts. This phone call "registers" the SIM card or whatever. Many people call their voicemail number to satisfy this requirement.
This bug affects all LOS-based ROMs.
Yes I am a verizon customer. I had noticed that making a phone call seemed to help things along when messages wouldn't send. I guess I managed to let my phone die or turn it off enough to hide the fact that it fixed me. Giving it a test just now it seems to be working correctly. I don't know if I'll be happy or mad if the solution turns out to be this simple.

Was noted extensively on LOS-16 ROMs, but not discussed as much with LOS-17 (Android 10) ROMs. But earlier this month someone in the Havoc 3.7 (LOS-17 based) thread did bring it up...

Would anyone happen to know a fix for the having to make a call on verizon to receive incoming calls/text messages-
It's the main thing preventing me from running any android 10 rom. Have an unlocked (True) US998

I don't know of a fix, but, I always called my voice mail to get it to work. I haven't been on a custom room for a little while. I assume that still works, though.

However, the larger problem is in six months you will not be able to use LOS-based custom ROMs with V30 on Verizon.
* As of December 31, 2020 Verizon is dropping 3G CDMA to repurpose bandwidth for 5G.
After that date, to make any phone calls on Verizon you will need VoLTE. No LOS-based custom ROMs have VoLTE. You will need stock Verizon firmware. It can be rooted stock firmware; you can use Magisk modules to add features -- but needs to be Verizon firmware for VoLTE.
* T-mobile users are in the same predicament.
In January 2021, T-mobile will be dropping 3G HSPA for same reasons. T-mobile users will need VoLTE, which only comes with V30 stock firmware. However, T-mobile is less stingy. They also allow US998 firmware to have VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling with T-mobile SIM. Whereas Verizon requires Verizon stock firmware, and it needs to have been activated on a phone with Verizon IMEI at some point.
* AT&T will also eventually drop 3G HSPA -- but not until February 2022 (18 months from now).
So, for U.S. V30 owners who wish to run custom ROMs a little longer, you should check out AT&T Prepaid. It's a lot cheaper than "regular" AT&T, but is only for people who own their phones.
18 months is a long time. Anything can happen in 18 months!
AT&T only gives VoLTE to AT&T IMEI phones, as well as iPhones and some other phones I would never own. I've never used an AT&T branded phone on AT&T. I'm an AT&T customer with three native US998 for myself, my wife, my mother -- so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it in February 2022. Will probably give my mother an AT&T V35. Maybe my wife, too. Also, LG may get their act together and produce a good phone fro the LG V70 or LG V80.
Any Verizon, T-mobile (and Sprint), and AT&T MVNOs (Straight Talk, Ting, etc.) will also be affected by these decisions.
I have a more extensive discussion of this issue here:
All U.S. V30/V3O+/V30S will need stock firmware, not LOS-based custom ROMs. When?
