Just got an HTC s740 and i'm having problems getting a GPS fix in Google Maps.
It seems to pickup the GPS ok but doesn't get a fix.. even outside if left for ages.
Also can't find any settings anywhere in the menus for the GPS.
Can anyone help?
Have you activated QuickGPS (in program folder "Accesoires")?
This should improve the fix-time dramatically.
My phone was working fine, and then all of a sudden, while using the gps (with McGuider), it lost its fix and it never came back. I tried it with other progs (like Google maps) and no go there either. They would find the gps, but never get a fix. They would not see any sattelites, as a matter of fact (the graph would be completely flat).
The strange thing is, that it just happened from one moment to the next. One moment I had a fix, all was working well, the next moment I lost the fix, and it never came back.
In the end I did a hard reset and after that everything was OK again.

No GPS-Fix
I had the same problem with no fix.. no sattelites in fact just happened suddenly.I removed the battery for 1 minute and it was ok afterwards. Just happened once. Looks like the GPS-hardware got "hung-up"...
Good to know. Should it happen again, I will try pulling the battery for a minute too. Saves the trouble of a hard reset and reinstalling all my apps.
I DID try turning the phone off and then on again, but that did not help.

Ever since I installed the latest version of Google Maps my location does not get updated automatically. It would go for hours without updating my location. My location services are working fine. Both my GPS and wireless network option boxes are ticked.
Is anyone else having this problem? And does anyone have a fix for this?
sometimes happens maybe it's cause where you are located
I have an app called fast fix which kinda helped me a lot.
this is it

I'm having same problem. Thanks.. I'll try that.

ok hope it worked
This is likely more a Google Maps issue, but since I'm more likely to get response from this community I hope someone here can help me out.
I'm using a Dell Streak, running Android 2.2 under 'DJ Steve's 1.9.0 ROM'. Note that I have also posted this to the Subsonic forum (see below).
When running Google Maps, Google Navigation, or Copilot, the entire device will hard boot (no FC, just a cold crash often requiring a battery out reset). I've narrowed this down to happening when there is network activity. I can somewhat reproduce this by running Subsonic with the Navigation - since this is a normal setup for me in the car, it's annoying that the combination crashes the phone!
With Google Navigation running, when Subsonic hits up a new track and thus starts to download the next on its cache list, the phone crashes after about 2s. I'm thinking perhaps there is some deadlocking over the data connection. Note that I don't have to have Subsonic running to see this problem - it just makes it happen faster!
I’m going to try using a WiFi connection instead of 3G by creating a hotspot with my wife’s Android phone to see if it’s a 3G connection issue.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to better diagnose this problem or a potential fix?

Honestly not sure what is causing your crashing, when I had 1.9.0 with perfmod enabled (now on 1.9.1-b7) never once while using navigation did my Streak crashed. I have used my Streak as GPS for multiple trips from VA to SC and on the west coast due to my job. You stated it happens all the time regardless of subsonic is running. That leads me to believe it is another app running in the background.
Unless somebody else has a better idea, start freezing (with Mybackup Pro or Titanium backup) apps one by one, until stops crashing. I recommend you re-enable each app after you obtain new map data. Reason you need to ensure that it is not a combination of apps causing the issue, if you leave multiple apps frozen and find the one you believe to be it, could wind up having repeat issue once your re-enable all your apps.
I'll try the freezing approach, that's a great suggestion, thanks. I have perfmod enabled too - was overclocking with SetCPU, but thinking that might be the issue, nixed that on the last rebuild. I've done numerous factory resets and still have the issue.
I purchased Sygic a few months ago and at first it worked pretty good. However recently I am getting / experiencing more and more problems with this navigation program.
The problem is, whenever I start Sygic it says it's loading and then throws me back to the main screen. :S
I recently installed the Aura ROM, but this didn't fix anything.
Maybe uninstalling and removing all the configuration files would fix my problem. I understand how to uninstall, however I don't know where the configuration files are stored.
Anyone care to help or is experiencing the same problem?
Hi there!
I'm having the same issue, using ΠCrust ROM, which is based in ATT's ROM. I check into the Sygic forums, and it appears to be a bug with this ROM version. I posted for support in the forum, as in the begining, the aplication was having problems with OpenGL also. The lastest version resolvs the OpenGL problems, but this Open and ForceClose issue is still present.
Here's the link were the issue was originally reported:
http://support.sygic.com/sygic/topics/crash_on_motorola_atrix_2_3
For the FC, there's a work around, it seems it conflicts in some way with the GPS. So to start Sygic you will have to:
1. Disable GPS in the phone
2. Open Sygic, it will ask you to activate the GPS showing a dialog, click settings, activate the GPS and select back
3. Sygic will open normally
Hope it helps at least for you to use the application.
Thanks for the tips. I am on CM7 and have been experiencing the same things.

I just got my wife and myself the S4, our first Samsung phones. Everything seems to be great, except GPS and navigation. I am hoping I am missing something simple. I did not see this issue discussed in the S4 forums here, actually there was one about just how good GPS is with this phone. Anyhow my problem, GPS rarely locks in when I start navigation using Google maps. It will accurately show my present location, I am assuming it is using the wireless network to show that. But 90% of the times I use navigation, it will not lock at all. I have found that if I go into settings and uncheck the stand alone GPS services box, then recheck it I will get immediate GPS lock and can navigate. Then the very next time I need to use navigation, same thing, no GPS lock. I downloaded the GPS status app and same thing there, will not lock on a single satellite, I do my uncheck/recheck thing, and instantly I have many many locked satellites. Anything I am missing in settings?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Fred
I have the same issue.
Works fine for me on stock. I get almost instant GPS lock outdoors. I did have some issues on some ROMs, but I think that was ROM specific, because flashing back to my backup of stock fixed it.
Well I am trying to contact Samsung support. See what sort of run around they can give me.

I had this problem on the GS3...not sure about the S4 yet. Anyway, I found that turning on GPS only when I needed it and turning it off when I didn't made it work correctly. Obviously this isn't ideal but the GPS was 100% using it that way.
I may have found a fix. I tweeted with Samsung support today. They had me boot up in safe mode. In safe mode it only boots up stock apps, nothing that has been downloaded. Well my GPS worked just fine. So it would seem to indicate one of the apps I downloaded was the cause. So I rebooted and began to uninstall any app I had installed. Every two apps I would check the map, still no GPS lock. I had to uninstall every app I installed. Once they were all off the phone, my GPS once again worked perfectly. So I began to re-install the apps one by one, checking the map each time. It kept working. Eventually I had re-installed every app I just took off. GPS, maps and navigation still working perfectly. My wife's S4 had the same issues, so I uninstalled everything, re-installed it, and her GPS works as well. We decided to run some errands and used the navigation for each stop, worked perfectly.
Don't ask me why, I have no clue, but so far my phone is fixed. Will report back if anything changes.
Oh, and if you want to boot up in safe mode and don't know how, power off your phone. Power it back on, when the first loading screen comes up, press the down volume key until the phone reboots. It will be in safe mode. It will be indicated as such in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.
I hope this helps others and is a permanent fix.
GPS not locking, possible solution.
Ok, well I think I have my problem narrowed down to one app. After deleting and re-installing all my apps GPS worked just fine. This morning I opened up Yahoo Weather for the first time since re-installing. Knowing it used GPS location I checked navigation right after. Sure enough I had lost my GPS functionality. Uninstalled the app, all GPS services came back. Check the same issue with my wife's S4, same results.
I am not saying this is the only app causing issues, but seems to be on my phone. Without the Yahoo weather app, all is good. Which is a shame because I really liked the app.

I confirm removing Yahoo weather fixes the issue. Thanks a lot for this solution.
Good, I am glad it help. Not sure if it will help or not, but I did send an email to yahoo support. I am hoping maybe they can come up with an update that will fix the issue.
An easier way of going into safe mode is holding the power button, then when the shutdown menu pops up, hold down the power off button. Might be a little easier

I've been beating myself up over this. I haven't had the phone a week and thought my GPS was shot. I know this is an old thread, but it fixed me. Thanks again. Darn Yahoo Weather!
Are there still problems with this? The app received an update on august 15th.
I've tried turning on the GPS and Google Maps works ok for now.
