Ok so a bought a thunderbolt back in Nov but returned it cause I kept having issues with the hot spot and got the rezound which turned out to be even worse so now I am back to another thunderbolt after having tried a bionic as well. I have tried several different roms trying to get one that works well for hot spot and so far the only one that was somewhat stable(CyanogenMod 7.1.1) quit working after I put it in airplane mode and i wound up having to start over to fix the issues. So now I am running 2.11.605.5 after having downgraded from 2.11.605.9 so I have the radio and lte upgrade from the latest ota. I have looked around on the forum thread about the different roms but i havent really found any postings about how the hot spot has been working I have found a couple of roms that just flat out say that the hotspot isnt working at all and have avoided them but for the most part I havent found any that say if its stable or not. So the short of it is that I want to find a rom that is stable for hot spot use. Gotta give the bionic credit for the hot spot use. That thing was great but it has the worst screen I have seen so far on an android phone. Any help would be awesome in finding a rom that is good for this
Well is it the built in hot-spot that isn't working? If so just download Wireless Tether or Open Garden and go on tethering.
If you really do want a ROM, I'm using LiquidSmooth AOSP w/ Wireless Tether app that works great.
I've used Skyraider, BAMF 1.10 with Open Garden without any issues either.

I tried skyraider this time and i was using the stock app and wireless tether but I had not tried open garden but the stock and wireless tether were not working it was constantly dropping in and out it would stay connected according to my windows icon on my computer but i would have no access and i would get dced from games and my torrents would drop off completely. it would take a min or so for it come back on. had that problem with a couple of roms and some would just not work at all like bamf soab which i found out today has known issues with the hotspot. I will try open garden on skyraider i liked his roms when i had my dinc. thank you for the input. any other inputs would be greatly appreciated like maybe what i might do to stabilize this problem.

Second that. Profile to Thunderbolt and wifi router fix was the only way I could get it to working. Smooth as butter now

i have tried your recommendation and it has worked brilliantly on virus' eternity rom. So thank you for your ideas and support. I am a happy tbolt user now.
Thanks for the useful thread! I've been using the mobile hotspot recently, on stock 2.11.605.9 and it is just awful. It stops and starts, youtube HD just buffers all the time - it's basically unusable for anything except web browsing or email.
i am paying Verizon for the (dubious) pleasure of this barely-working feature.
So, I rooted, revolutionary-ed and installed WirelessTether. I did the configurations suggested here. Unfortunately, it's just as spotty as the stock mobile hotspot app. I notice no difference in performance.
Do I need to install one of the custom ROMs to see any benefit? Although I'm rooted and S-OFF, I'm still on the stock ROM.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions! :-D
PS: BTW, my LTE coverage is pretty good, and speeds on the phone itself are quite consistent and stable.
It's not a ROM issue. It's a Verizon issue. Every phone does it. I cancelled tethering because of this. Verizon doesn't seem to care that people want to tether for more than 5 mins without rebooting.

This is more of a router issues than phone issue. Try your routers website forum or google it.
From what I have read, I dont think you can open the nat when tethering from the phone

I think the issue is tethering via 4G, not from a router.
I'm frustrated as hell about not being able to tether 4G for no longer than 5 minutes at a time, after which I have to reboot my T-Bolt and my tablet.

Im not sure how people have problems with this. I use wifi router 3.1 beta and can tether 4g for hours. All i use are the standard fix settings and there is zero issues. I play games with my laptop online when i work out of town.

I'm not finding "wifi router 3.1" or "wifi router 3.1 beta" in the Market anywhere. Is this an app? Just to clarify... this app will tether 4G LTE wirelessly to your device of choice for hours, correct? Thanks!
Edit: Found a link to what you're referring to in a different thread. Installed the APK, checked the box for the Wifi Fix, selected Thunderbolt, enabled access, and voila! Going on a solid hour of 4G tether with no disconnects! This seems to indeed fix whatever problem Verizon is having with the 5-minute disconnect.
For those who need it and may have missed it, here's the link for the fix:

The tether apps are filtered from the market when accessed via Verizon, I believe.
I have used tethering quite a bit for Netflix, etc., on CM7 with the older android wifi tether. I switched from CM back to Sense just to try something different for a while and have used the stock tether app since then. I don't recall having a tether-related reboot. I'll probably switch to the new wifi tether, love the mac filtering in there.
I will say, though, that I always have to start wifi tether twice to get it to work (enable - disable - enable.) Then it's solid.
Edit: oh, and stuck.
Question: why is it that when I turn off my tablet, wifi won't reconnect without turning my phone screen on? Very strange. My tablet reconnects immediately to my home router, but it will only reconnect immediately to my phone as long as the phone screen is on. I've tried everything and can't solve it. Otherwise, 4G Hotspot works awesomely.

rom with great hotspot
while the wifi tether app with correct settings has given me success on most roms i've tried it on, i like the built-in and hacked wifi-hotspot on thunderstick full blown a lot. overall, full blown is a great rom, and the included hot spot works perfectly for me and keeps my number of installed apps lower, which i like as well. my .02 anyway.
I actually just installed MIUI Rom that came out a few days ago and that's been working fine. My problem with most things is that I either get good 4G or GPS, but not both. :/
For some reason though, any stock tether/wireless hotspot apps never work. The miui rom uses Cyanogen Mod.

It happens to me on occasion, I'm more willing to blame the app since it seemed to start happening, at least with me when they started overhauling the app

it's driving me crazy
had to go cm10 only for everything to work

I don't think it has anything to do with aosp or sense

It might be your network profile because I just ran Youtube off of WiFi, 3G, and 4G on both AOSP and Sense and it worked flawlessly. Go to Settings > System Updates > Update profile. If that doesn't fix it and you know your MSL code, you could also do ##3282#, Edit, type your MSL, go to Data Profile, hit menu, and hit reset (only resets activation, not the entire phone).
I'm having an issue where apps won't install or update when connected to my home wifi. I have localized the problem to something with the Wifi because the problem persists over the 4 android devices in the house: rooted HTC evo 4G lte, rooted epic 4G touch, stock (non rooted) evo design and a stock (non rooted) nexus 7. With the 3 phones, play store updates with no issues when connected to 3g data and if I go to a friends house, the nexus updates no issue with that wifi. Everything else with the wifi works, I'm even posting this from the nexus 7 over wifi.
I've tried the standard clear play store data, but since the problem persists over all 4 devices, I feel it's more Internet localized.
Any suggestions to try things?
Thanks

Check your home wifi router. Probably looks like a problem of it, and not phones.
Do all devices have the latest version of play store?
Is it possible to tether a rooted droid incredible 4g running the stock HTC Sense image that STILL has the unlimited data plan (I got the phone just before they killed it last summer)? I have a stock droid incredible 4g (Android 4.0.4) that I simply unlocked the bootloader on and installed/flashed SuperSU from TWRP. I apologize if my terminology is off as I am new to this. I have installed both WiFi Tether and FoxFi and have had no success with either program. I may be configuring something incorrectly or it may not be possible given I'm still on the unlimited data plan. I assumed that rooting my device would somehow allow Wifi Tether to bypass whatever verizon blocks on the unlimited data plans to prevent tethering. I have googled everything I can with regard to this issue and have attempted all the recommended fixes with FoxFi (rename the SSID, reboot the phone, disabled WiFi, etc...). I do not know how to configure Wifi Tether (tried the defaults and a few combinations I found on google) and have found very little to assist further with it. There are multiple device-profiles and setup-methods to choose from in addition to a bunch of other options, and am hoping someone know specifically what I can do or have a combination that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
Simplified Questions:
(1) Is it possible to teather on a droid inc 4g with unlimited data?
***These Questions assume '1' above is true***
(2) Can this work in FoxFi, if so, how do I configure it?
(3) Can this work in Wifi Tether, if so, how do I configure it?
(3a) In Wifi Tether, I would need it set up to do a 'hotspot' not an ad-hoc network connection, no clue how to do this...
(3b) In Wifi Tether, which device-profile and setup-method should be used?
(3c) There are a number of options in WiFi Teather, which ones should be selected?
Solved
I continued to search and try settings and figured out what worked:
(1) Phone must be rooted
(2) Download WiFi Teather
(3) In Settings -> Choose HTC Rezound (LTE/CDMA/GSM) as the 'Device-Profile'
(4) Leave the 'Setup-Method' as 'Auto', which is the default
(5) Optional: Use 'WiFi-Encryption' if you'd like
(6) Set the SSID
(7) Check the box for 'Wifi-driver reload'
(8) Ensure 'MSS clamping' is checked (was by default for me)
(9) Ensure 'Routing fix' is checked (was by default for me)
(10) Start Tethering
The above should work...
Simple, if your on a sense based ROM just use open garden https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=og.android.tether
And in settings select either generic ICS or rezound I forget its been a while but I know it works flawlessly
On cm which I am just use the built in tethering very simple
I use WiFi Tether (currently using 3.2-beta2). Works great. Fast, no drops, etc.
While I am running ViperLTE, I see no reason why it won't work with rooted stock.
In fact... I'm using it right now

i still don't seem to have gotten past the throttling... i have frozen these apps with not apparent change.
tethering works - i just don't get the same speed results when comparing my phone vs laptop. :dunno: i also note my area doesn't seem to have very fast 4g speeds compared to results i see posted on the internet.

I have found that signal strength/area is everything when it comes to speeds - tethering or otherwise. At work, I have intermittent 4G and my tethering speeds are so-so. I have to carefully put my phone in the right spot to get 4G, and that spot varies depending on the weather...
However, at home my signal and 4G are rock solid. 4G speeds, including tethering, are faster than my WiFi connection.

I just got the HTC one yesterday. I'm coming from a galaxy note 2. I not the unlimited data plan that I believe come with 500 mb tethering. If you're already rooted, you can use the WiFi tentering app by CWM on the play store ( yellow WiFi icon). Just change the device profile to wlan0 and check the this option after the MAC spoofing section( can't remember the name right now haha.

i THINK i did that already. not exactly sure what that last step meant lol. but i am rooted, and have treve mod on it. and have all the settings in it set. though when i use it as a hotspot, the data shows up under the tethering section on the tmobile account app. the only way ive found around it is using vpn shield. then the data isnt collected. BUT the problem with that is that it knocks down speeds considerably

I'm in the same boat as you with an unlimited data plan but I'm getting blocked for tethering. On my HTC One S there was a file I used to flash in TWRP that unlocked the APNs using the stock ROM when rooted. . But I have not found anything like that for the One yet.
I have read of some people using SQLite to edit the phones carrier list on other phones. But I'm not a developer and I don't know if that would work on this phone or not.
Just throwing an idea out there since the thread is here.

I got the stock hotspot app to work again. I had to go ahead and unlock my bootloader at HTCDev, flash TWRP recovery, flash a custom ROM (which I did NOT want to do), and add a different APN to get it to work again. I flashed the Revolutionary ROM, which is pretty close to a stock M7 ROM with a few minor tweaks. Has the same stock feel. Even on this ROM, the fast.t-mobile.com APN will block tethering and give you the page to add it to your plan. But if you add the old epc.tmobile.com APN, it will save and not switch back to the fast.t-mobile APN. Also, the APNs are not locked, you can delete it if you want.
I'm just testing out this ROM right now to see if I can get the same kind of battery life I get with the stock ROM. This is the main concern for me. The stock ROM got me 3 days of use out of the device. That's unheard of on any Android device I've ever used. If I have to spend weeks working out bugs and flashing different kernels, I'm going to run the RUU and return my device back to stock and continue searching for a way to modify my stock ROM or just give up and use one of those clunky slow apps in the market place.
But basically, you just need to find a way to unlock the APNs and you can get wifi tethering/hotspot to work natively.
Did anyone get Wifi Tether to work with 4.3 ROM? It did not for me. I am s-off.
