Hello,
I'm running android version 4.1.2 and I've seen that there is an option for setting up proxy in the Wifi menu
I'd like to know if theres any way of setting it up in a way of wildcards,
I've seen that there is a way, but the thing I'm seeking for is a wildcard of all but one forwarding, that is, putting it out in a way of a logical NOT, and any site that you add that way will be proxy handled instead of the regular way of bypassing none but the ones you tell it to.
P. S:
A little example of the wanted behaviour to be:
^*://*.examplesite.*/
Will bypass any site that has http/ftp/https... To it, And not matching (www).examplesite.com,org,or net...) to it.
Thanks in advance,
Ron.

up to now I used 'https://mail.domain.com' for outlook exchange mail but last week due to upgrades OWA access has been changed to 'https://mail.domain.com:12345/'. Surprisingly, when I tried to modify this on my HD2, the phone just ignores ':12345' so I cannot access mail. Can't find a solution. Anybody out there had the same problem and solved it? thanks.
Get them to change it back to 443
I can't guarantee it will work but you can make the change stick by editing the registry directly. Search your registry for mail.domain.com and add the port number there. I know it saves the data and it shows up in my Outlook Mail settings. I know it stops my mail from synching. I am not, however, going to change the port number on my exchange server to see it it will actually synch...
tks guys
cant do that xaccers.
AA, what you say sounds good. Whereabouts could that registry be? Im not so used to messing up with registries. Any info will help
Just search the registry for your mail.domain.com, it's the only entry.
just did it and now the number sticks but still wont work. I t just says 'connecting..' but does not. same as before
That's interesting. It sees the change and tries to use it but is unable to parse the difference.
For those not understanding the issue the ":12345" after the https://mail.mydomain.com is changing the port that the https protocol uses from the usual 443 to 12345. Normally, his HD2 requests service from the 443 port on his Exchange server and it works fine. His admin has changed the service port on the Exchange server to 12345 probably as a means of "hiding" his server, (security by anonymity isn't very good security btw). The unfortunate thing is the his HD2 is unaware of the ability to specify a different port in a URL so it attempts to create a connection to the literal URL instead of changing the service port in the request itself. DOH!
Sorry to tell you this mate, but it's a known issue that you can't change the port number that is used by exchange services in windows mobile. I'm guessing that you have web access with the owa.website so you're stuck with using that.
just made my day. sad to hear that.
have been searching for days now and could not find the answer, so that's it.
not even htc hotline nor my administrator, who told me that before changing the owa access they had tested with iphones and other with android and working perfectly. so now I have a brand new hd2 and have to access my mail via owa which I guess you will agree with me that is a bit messy/slow. nobody has heard of any update by changing rom or else??

I've actually got the latest official ROM on my phone and there's still no extra settings anywhere that allow you to specify a port.
thanks John and have you heard anything abt the possibility of android on this phone?

The beauty of Android is that you can dump the system apps (such as the default email app) and just download a new one from the market.
The email app that I use is the one that was supplied with HTC Sense, and that doesn't seem to have anywhere to enter a port number, but it may work with the port number specified in the server URL - I don't know.
Do some reading up and see if you can find an Android email app that allows you to use a custom port. All I can say for sure is that the one I've got on mine is at least as capable as the standard email app on WM.
Has anyone found the VPN settings hidden anywhere on the Nook? I've been digging around through the various settings panes with the help of AnyCut, but haven't stumbled across anything for network settings that isn't in the stock Nook settings panes. I'll settle for either IPSec or PPTP, either would be better than nothing on open wifi nets.
It would also be nice to be able to be able to use Juniper's VPN for work, but Junos Pulse is coming up as "not compatible with your device" on the Android Market.
Any suggestions?
I asked the same question a week or so ago and got no answer.
I havent been able to find any solution myself either.

I saw that thread and it reminded me of VPN settings that I stumbled on while looking at files/inside settings files (not in menus) when I first got my NT, but then I couldn't find them again so didn't post. There is no native support/applications for setting up VPN on the NT at any rate, so you would have to find a separate program, but it looks like some basic android OS support might be there, just not the software or settings menus :/. Did either of you try 5 VPN or a similar app?
edit: Nope, not supported on the NT. All signs point to no until a custom rom or mod is available. I agree - it IS a big oversight and odd omission (and people complained about it on the NC, so they should have fixed it). It's definitely a software issue though, so eventually a feature that can be added.
Hi xda-community,
we are wondering how we can modify our Android by limiting access to certain settings. We have LG-p500's for our employees and we managed to limit the apps they can acceess with an simple app, works a treat.
However employees keep changing settings and then complain that something is not working anymore with their device.
Now i was wondering what the easiest way is to block Access to the Settings? All they should be able to change is the Language settings and the Ringtone Setting, nothing else. What would you recommend is the easiest approach?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Cheers
there is nothing that i know of. i would use clockwork and make a backup right when after you flash, then when they mess it up you should be able to restore. otherwise tell the employees that they break it they bought it. thats what i do at my company. i got a legal sheet from google i have everyone sign when they get somthing.
hope this helps
m creating an app wherein i want to check (just read not change) certain browser settings that are currently enabled on the device. i want to find out whether javascript is enabled, and ssl checks are enabled or not.
m trying to do this via the getsharedpreferences, but something seems to be wrong. it is possible to read the /data/data/com.android.browser/shared_prefs/com.android.browser_preferences, right??
is there any other way of finding these settings?
First off, I apologize if this has been covered before in a thread. I spent about a half hour searching for my answer and was not able to either find it or understand which answer I was looking for.
I have in Taiwan a:
S3 GT-I9300
4.1.2
I9300XXELLA
3.0.31-899179
Rooted
No custom rom
(not sure what else you guys need to know)
I was simply curious if someone would point me in the right direction for the following problems. I use reverse tethering quite often with my smart phone as my office does not have WIFI and I enjoy watching sports games on my phone or listening to the radio broadcasts. I have a plan with a 5GB data limit and the video will eat that up pretty fast. So, whenever I use reverse tether, want to check for available wifi, or do any USB/Blue tooth tethering I have to go two or three menues deep into my settings and it's a tad annoying.
Is there a way I can customize the top drop down menu to replace some of the UI icons with ones that I actually want to use such as, "enable usb tether" or "see available wifi signals" or "turn on wifi hotspot?" I could remove Blocking Mode, or AllShare Cast as I never use them.
While I'm able to root phones (easy enough) I'm pretty clueless about custom Roms, how to use them, which ones are good, how to keep my phone protected when using them etc. There is such a huge amount of information about customizing the S3 on these forums, I just didn't know how to wade through it all to get the one customization that I want.
Again, sorry if I couldn't find the threat where this was discussed, and if there is a thread that answers this question well, I would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
Cheers!
Not 100% sure, but maybe have a look into JKay Delux (you have to find the version for your firmware though). Otherwise another option could be to create a shortcut for your home screen via tasker that brings you directly into that menu.

Does tasker allow you to create shortcuts for any phone command? If so, that might be what I need.

if I am not wrong, most of them yes. At least it lets you control most of the functions (if you add Secure Settings PlugIn even more.)
