Hi, i will be coming from a 2s lte, skyrocket that got bricked.
I am thinking of getting this because its cheap, maybe it will fit in my pocket better, and battery last longer ?
Can you still run things like skype video, navigator and other navigation apps ? Is there anything it can't do i will
will wish i could ?
seems like a solid little phone.
What's your budget?

If you have more budet, buy nexus 4 or s3 mini.
This is good phine, you can run evetything, no problems. Just some hd games lags and can't be played without modifications.
For me it is really fast if you have right settings

Ace 2 is a great little phone, fast enough and not too big to look silly in your pocket. But ... it is my last Samsung phone and there are better options for the same money.
I do not know why it is so much underpowered (worst 4GB EMMC on market, light sensing ability not used, Touchwiz). I had ability to play some with Xperia Sola (NovaThor U8500, 512MB RAM) and it feels damn faster. At paper Ace 2 looks better due more ram and bigger screen. I agree that screen is better in Ace 2, but everything else is much worse.
And Samsung does and support Android as it should. I am not Samsung hater or something. They just focus on releasing 2-3 devices each month and they do not care about those that were released couple months ago.
My opinion: go for Nexus, Xperia or LG. Do not buy Motorola, HTC and Samsung. But that's just me.
i would never bux xperia, for me it is female phone and phone have no SD CARD. They put 4 GB on phone just 1,1 usable and you cant expand that memory. I am not fanboy but if i would buy new phone i would go for samsung again , htc or google nexus.

Do you mean xperia u? It is different with xperia sola. Xperia sola has sd card, so you won't have any problem playing 1 gig's data game
For me, I still choose ace 2 because of its complete feature like front camera, radio, quite big amount of ram and sd card availability. Actually, if xperia u has sd card, i will choose it instead of ace 2.
Another advantage of xperia phones is developer supports. Nova thor Xperia has more custom rom rather than samsung.

If you have a good budget, then I strongly suggest you buy a nexus 4 because it gets all the latest android updates immediately.
Or u can buy the s2 or galaxy nexus (for me is the bests phones) (for example in my country you can find the s2 and galaxy at 250-350€)

I can get the ace 2 refurb for $100 with a 1 year warranty, so it's cheapest i can find that may suit my needs.
I had a Nexus 4 right when it came out, sold it for a profit, and I just can't have a phone that doesn't have a removable battery, SD card, and is to easy to break the glass back, i know the s2 doesn't have OTG, neither did the n4.. I like otg as I can plug a keyboard in.. but anyways...
No way I would be able to use a phone without a battery swap, I am to much into the outdoors and my phone GPS, not to mention I need SD cards for various reasons, 16 gigs internal is useless to me as my needs.
Anyways I could also get an S2x for $200 refurb with one year warranty, I can't really decide..
I thought i would be fine with the ace, i don't play games much so don't care for that, I care not to have the latest updates.
My biggest thing I could wish for is long battery life, tough to drop on the ground without a broken phone..

As a long time digital music and graphic designer, I will tell you about the last thing in the world I would do is install updates immediately, lol... you wait about 6 months min, you double check all the bugs are taken out by the testers, you make sure all your software and your hardware is going to work well with it.
On thing you learn by getting older with computers, is updates (unless security related or software bug fixes) are about as fun as sticking your head in the trash can.. If your system is working for you, and your system is how you make a living, you leave it alone unless you have a a very good reason to update, as far as the few new features, those are not worth it..

On GB its really long. I could get 3-4 hrs screen time. Almost 2 days on standby, 17 hrs on light use (small apps, WiFi browsing), around 7-8 on moderate use (3G always on) and around 3-5 hrs when gaming. I have TPU case on my Ace II and I dropped it from 2nd floor when I accidentally hit the table while watching a movie (when I grabbed it below, it was still playing) although my phone's silver bezel is almost chipped off entirely, I can say this phone can take a beating (especially from me, someone with a habit of throwing/dropping phones for no god reason)

Hello,
I planned to buy the S3 in thailand when I go abroad in a week, after scouting a little on the forum I noticed the SDS brick and the uncertainty of it all and i'm wondering whether I should still go for it or choose another device, and if so what is the other recommended device I can go for (n4 out of stock).
thanks in advance.

I'm thinking the same thing, asked a similar question in questions forum, those that replied said go for it. I'm still not 100% sure yet, and hoping to see some more replies here.
At the price no it has to be the Nexus .

There is yet to be a better device than the galaxy s 3. If you want to go for a bargain you might consider the nexus 4 but it has a mediocre camera and is far from being the full package. The note 2 would be another competitor if the size fits you but other then that you want get a device that is the overall awesome package that the galaxy s 3 is. Go for it.
The only thing better than a galaxy s3 is the upcoming galaxy s4 which is yet to be announced

Only problem with waiting for the latest phone is you can potentially be always be waiting, as there will always be a new latest greatest phone just round the corner. I got into that trap with the last phone I got a few years a go. And trying to avoid it this time round. But I do get what your saying.
No don't because with in a month or two it will be outdated and you will find all new phones with 5 inch screen gorilla glass 3 and better processor etc and more advanced stuff so i recommend you to wait either for s4 lol till may or Sony xperia z(beautiful) or htc m7 mosy probably you'll see that in mobile world confrence and Motorola x if i am you i would wait and go for a newer phone as it is i buy one phone a year.

Outdated?!!! With its quad-core processor? Are you bonkers or high? :silly:
Well, we'll definitely see a lot of new stuff at the MWC. Nothing ground-breaking, I suppose. Everyone has already made their CES announcements and they've left nothing to speculate about (except the possible new Motorola phone).
There isn't a doubt to whether the s3 is still good, I want to buy it, but there has been reports from people in this forum it suffers from hardware problems and can die at any moment, and in that case I'll have no warranty from thailand, does anyone have something to add on the topic ?
Get a Nexus 4.
The S3 for sure. It's ground breaking and even the nexus 4 can't compete.
S3 has plenty of innovative features not to mention things like s beam. Also expandable memory.
When you get you s3 you will just be upgraded to a new version that includes the fixes. Then if you want to root just Flash an old ics bootloader and your good to go
I just bought another s3 so I now have 2. Was going to get the nexus 4 but there's no point. Sold my old s3 to a mate

I am thinking of buying the Xperia Z the adverts are calling my name so bad.. But am not sure. I mean i love my galaxy s3 it is the fastest phone i owned till now. Plus from day one i had no problem. But i really want a premium feeling phone.. The nexsus 4 is a good phone but sux to be honest. The nexsus brand is very limited in terms of storage and i don't care about cloud space.. I am not going to use my cloud space when i am outside am i when i only have 1gb data a month....
So if you want speed and reliability then go for the S3 sure you've heard of sds and blah blah blah.. I had the phone since it came out in the uk not SDS no nothing. But if you want something else it is upto you really..
I on the other hand am really tempted for a Xperia Z....
Hey guys, my contract expires in a month and I am looking at a couple of new phones to buy. I currently own a Droid Incredible, and I absolutely love it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it has poor battery life, and it's kind of slow. Things that I do like about it are that I have a plethora of roms to choose from and it has great development support. Some phones that I am looking to buy are the Droid Razr Maxx HD, Samsung Galaxy S3, and the Google Nexus. Can you tell me about the pros and cons of the S3? How is the developer support for this phone? I appreciate any help!
Developer support isn't the worst but it isn't the best, the Exynos 4412 is Faster than it needs to be, don't go for a Snapdragon S4 Quad just because its faster... the differences are minimal.
If I was you I would get the Nexus 4 over the Galaxy Nexus if you were to get a Nexus device.
Cons:
Not much.

everything is great with this phone, developer community, xda support community is good, frequency of software updates from samsung is also good compared to other OEMs at the moment...overall phone experience is excellent and you will not be disappointed...however, sgs3 suffers from two issues...
1) stock Contacts & Phone App lags, takes 3-4 seconds to open for the first time and will not stay in memory for a long time for fast opening..this sucks...work around is avaliable like Exdialer app from play store or Jkay mod for SGS3 to keep contacts and dialer app in memory always.
2) heavy apps installed from market cannot be moved into external memory (memory stick)...work around available though I guess..!
If you are comfortable flashing a custom rom, kernel or mods, then it's a wonderful phone.
Stock experience is good but has some shortcomings like mentioned before.
Overall, I think it's the most balanced device right now. Removable battery and micro sd slot surely give it an edge and it's not as large as a Note.
Xperia Z would be also a great choice if you decide to wait. Seems that it would be a better choice IF you can wait a month or two.

@gchindi: well, i am not too worried about the contacts and phone apks taking a while to load. and how big apk files are we talking about?

I meant to say the dev support for the Galaxy S3, which isn't massively impressive compared to the Nexus, but that's expected as AOSP is made for Nexus.

Easily fixed with a new kernel or ROM.
Worst thing about Samsung bloatware, but that isn't as bad with the I9305 and its 2G ram.

Yeah, I'd hold off for a few months if you can - get a discount off your monthly bill from your service provider, save that money, then pull the trigger on a brand new S4 when that comes out. S3 is a great phone, and there's nothing else I'd rather have at the moment (except maybe the i9305 with more RAM, although a much weaker dev scene). But with the S4 release within spitting distance now, you'd be mad not to wait. Unless cost is an issue, in which case I'd still say wait, cos the S3 will drop in price quite a bit when the S4 is released. Might as well get yourself synced up with the Galaxy S release cycle now, cos once you have one you're unlikely to want to go elsewhere. I did buy myself a Nexus 4 when that came out, but the only benefits that had was the software (if you're into vanilla Android) and two gigs of RAM. EVERYTHING else was inferior to my S3, so I ended up sending the N4 back.

i was thinking about waiting for the s4 but i don't know when exactly it will come out. regardless, i probably won't buy it since i personally think that it might be too over powered and the battery life will take a hit, but hey, you never know. you're right about the S3's cost dropping though. i was looking at the nexus 4, but the no microSD card
(at least that's what i've read) was a complete turn off for me.
40 million S3 units sold, having come from HTC I can see why just on the quality of components Samsung uses in it's phones. I had a choice between the new nexus and the S3, the removable battery and sd card sold it for me but I'm very impressed by how well the software works. All my phones up to now had AOSP, this is the first that has ( albeit a stripped down version) a stock ROM onboard after three months use.

Its all about choice. I have a nexus 7 which is a bigger version of the Google nexus in theory. Do you mean Google nexus or the nexus 4? I have to say that I love the jelly bean on the nexus and especially the user interface which I think is very simple to use on my nexus7. The RAZR maxx has the best battery life out of any phone I have seen on the market. My friend has one and funnily enough I have a s3. The s3 is brilliant you can really feel and see the quality Samsung put into making their phones. I came from HTC myself after having alot of issues with the one x . I would recommend either the nexus 4, simply because of the software and easy access and the s3 because of the removable battery and SD card which is what made me go for the s3 rather than the nexus

I highly doubt this will be the case - the battery life will be no worse than the S3 (most likely better). Chances are it will have a bigger battery as well as a better CPU (which will have better power management). The possibly larger screen and 1080P will obviously have a negative effect. This is obviously basing off rumour specs (and no one will really know until the phone is released), though point is, just because the phone is more powerful doesn't mean the battery life will be worse. The S3 is more powerful than the S2, though has better battery life (for me anyways).

Yeah, the Nexus 4. What was wrong with your One X? But yeah, I think I'm going to go with the S3. It has a lot of roms (so that beats out the raxr) and it has a micro SD(beating put the Nexus). Having a rooted droid incredible has kind of made those two things a necessity for me.

I'm patiently waiting for the c6806 but now that the galaxy note 3 is being announced and will be out early October , i might just jump ship and buy the note .Waiting for the LTE version is just painfully slow!
Build quality & the display is too small.
In the end the hardware pro's (ram, slightly higher clocking, cam) of the SGN3 are not compensating this for my requirements, as the performance of the XZU is still astonishing and i'm using my phone only for snapshots.
But your case is exactly showing the becalming situation Samsung has - people love to buy it anyway.
i almost bought the c6802 and live with the 3g connection but im pretty sure i'll be banging my head if the LTE version comes out, blaming myself that i should have waited .
LTE to me is the now technology and 3G is just not acceptable in my vocabulary .

Absolutely not.
I've seen the conferences yesterday, and both Sony and Samsung haven't entertained me.
I mean, Sony has great products but tends to lay them out without any heart at all.
On the other end, Samsung has no innovation at all, but from their point of view it seems they're presenting the Holy Grail to the public year after year.
I have an S3, which is a great device, but on the right and on the bottom the "metal" bezel cut itself for no reason at all. It is 1 year old. And I paid FULL PRICE for this. And by full I mean that it costed me almost as much as a 6833.
I don't want Samsung to fill me with bs telling me the SPen is excellent, that the battery is interchangeable, that this, that that. I already know all that.
And i don't give a damn anymore.
ZU is progression, SW2 too, hell even the SBH52 impressed me more than the N3.
I'm gonna get on board with Sony, and whenever I'll see a guy with his Note 3 I'll say "Hey man, nice phone, I hope you're happy with what you got", not feeling envious, not feeling sorry for not buying it.
Because in the end, what YOU feel with your phone matters, not that extra 0.1ghz or that 1gb of ram.
Let's face it, about 1 out of 1000 Note3 or S4 users will root or even use their device to the fullest. The rest of them will simply feel happy that they can update their Facebook status saying 'I have a Note 3! Sweet! ", until they're not happy again when their friends buy something more powerful/stylish/popular.
I prefer being a 1 percenter, with a device that makes me smile, than being a 99 one, with the regret that I could have bought something more.
But hey, that's just my 2 cents.

There are 2 face on that medal you know...
On one face, Samsung hasn't always been keen with developers, not releasing sources and all, BUT thousands of people buy those, and as a result a lot of developers choose the device they develop on based on popularity, and on the fact that developing there would be more of a challenge.
On the other face, Sony has always been open with the developer community, but their popularity has started to grow big not that long ago, so we might have on the ZU the same level of devs there are on the Z.
As a matter of fact, some of them already started (just take a look on the Android development section), and that is even before the LTE version launched.
Let's wait for UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Spain etc. all have this device on their shelves, I have big expectations.

well, after viewing the Note 3 "coming out" party yesterday, I decided I am not interested in it...
I had a note 1, and a Note 2, which was a major upgrade to the note 1.
Fantastic phone, and I was hoping the Note 3 would be a major "upgrade" as well; but, the only upgrades, CPU speed, 3 gigs of Ram, and 13 MP camera isnt going to make the experience on the Note 3 that much better than the note 2.
I've been watching the Xperia Z Ultra since it came out, and, it looks like a fantastic phone; I am a big guy, so the size doesnt scare me, but I am waiting to see which US carriers will be carrying it.
I have owned at least 50 cell phones in my life, but mysteriously, NONE of them have been Sony phones, but I think this will change in the next 30 days.
It doesnt seem like there is alot of development on this phone yet, but, since many note 2 owners feel similiar to me, I am certain that there will be a large groupl that will move to this phone, once some US carriers are announced.
The quality of this phone seems fantastic; not sure if no flash for the camera will affect picture quality, and, hopefully, easy root/bootloader unlocking is just around the corner, since the sound from that tiny speaker appears to be lousy as well, but nothing that ViperMod or a different kernel wont fix!
The main problem SGN2 had and SGN3 as per first hands on, pics and vids also seems to have is, that - even if it is already to small for me as an Note 2 user - they're not making proper use of the screen size with view to UI on stock ROM.
In the end the Note 2 was and is just a sized up Galaxy.
And 2nd market (custom roms) is not a criterion on this topic for me, because if i have to customize the the product from day 1 to meet my needs, then there's something wrong and i'll better wait for the right deal.

Another user on another forum posted that maybe a real change will be seen when all S3s end their contract.
That's true for the S4 (they sold a lot less than what they were expecting), I was expecting it and I didn't fall for that.
That's true for the N3 too, as is a specced up S4 with SPen functions.
It will sell regardless of all this thoughts, but I could bet 1 out of 5 previous N2 owners will buy this N3, and the other 4 will scout around for a better choice or wait for the N4.
That's what I was planning to do skipping the iPhone 4 for the 5 (having the 3G), but Samsung stunned me with the S3 and I jumped ship.
I waited for a big change from the S3 to the S4, but I was ready to wait for the N3 this time.
Sony stunned me since they presented the ZU, I fell in love and that's it.
The only thing that would make me love even more this device would be having a stock-Google Play Edition.
That would be AWESOME.
Last but not least for the fact that we won't need implementation for the SPen, because the screen accept pens and pencils on its own...

My friend and i were avid samsung users. We both had NOTE 1 then i sold it bought htc one x then sold it again and he too sold note and we both bought Note 2. Note 2 was a great device but design was my only grudge against it. Then in april i bought sony xperia z and now have htc one. And i swore that i wont fall in samsung bad design good performance trap. Currently trying to sell HTC ONE and i will buy Z ULTRA. and my friend too will buy z ultra no more shameSuck for us we had it enough

Leaving Samsung behind. Time to move on. I love my new z ultra.. build quality is awesome. Note 3 is great, but same old same old except for specs. Each their own.

Pretty much agree with most posts. I've had the Note & Note 2 (using HTC One now) & the Note 3 doesn't do it for me. I really hate Touchwiz. Everything about it annoys me so I've run custom roms on all my Samsung phones. I don't use the s pen at all either so it just sits there.
I like the direction Sony are heading. I would prefer a smaller bezel but I really like the waterproof design & the minimal additions to Android.
I really don't see why Samsung are the Android leaders...

Advertising, advertising, and advertising. Oh, I forgot about advertising.
They could sell a smart ring for your toe advertising it as the next companion for the summer for getting rid of fungus because it has a 5mpx camera that scans the pavement before you set your foot on it.
Everybody would simply love it.

Hell yes...
More portable format, better camera, camera flash, SD card, removable battery, stylus built in, pressure sensitive wacom touchscreen, better hardware and software.
Basically, N3 is everything the Z wants to be...

Yeah... remind me again why you're browsing the Z Ultra forum...?
You see, you're everything Samsung wants.
Go for it my friend, you deserve it.
Samsung wants to be the next Apple. Good for money at first, but look at the iPhone crowd now... oh yeah, these is no crowd.

A friend is saling his Samsung S2 i9100 coming with a new mpj extended battery. He bought it two years ago, but still runs good. Is it still wise to buy? My phone just dead totally and I need a replacement asap. Please helped me with a decision, thanks!
Yes buy it..
It still a good midrange phone.
A dual core wid 1gigs of ram and 8mp camera wid 16gb inbuilt space
Thumbs up
it's a good phone
honnestly, i have mine from about 2 years, and i,m very pleased with it, and i dont plan to change it until there is something on tha market that really make a difference...
No, not 2nd hand. Not at any price. The number of phones we see develop faults on here after the 2yr mark means you're going to have to spend money on it sooner or later. You're better off getting an S3 cheap if the most recent devices (S4/others) are too expensive for you.
But if you were to get it for free, then yeah, why not.

Got money? Buy. And with "buy" I mean "buy everything you can think of".
Help your country's economy by spreading around your money, don't be selfish!

Country's economy is completely irrelevant, who goes in the market to buy a phone just for some country's economy.
Anyways, I own S2, and I do like it very much. However, if you can find a better phone for your bdget (like note, S3), go for it.
Why not man?? Go ahead and buy it lol. But i really recommend a new phone than second hand.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I agree with @MistahBungle, you shouldn't buy it. Even tho most people say its a good phone, i see no reason to buy it right now when there are phones like Moto G out there, and you definitely shouldn't if its 2 years old because a month after you buy it you will come back here.
@Dakura - moto g is not superior in all aspects...
S2 is still beneficial in terms of
Screen hardware quality (not ppi)
Camera (moto g camera is pathetic i have used my friend's ..its no were near to s2...no touch to focus also..lol)
No expandable memory...
Wifi direct doesnt works wid a sammy wifi direct ready device..
Almost same screen size...coz 0.2" screen size is used by ugly on screen buttons...
S2 still has more developer support (in terms of kernel development..all exynos 4 family is treated equally)
And its pure aosp... Even to swtich of data... U need to pull down notification bar... Settings...mobile network and then get to data...
To get cm on moto g..say bye to much needed warranty ...:victory:.. S2 is a legend...
ya you should have. Its a great phone.
It's a good value for the $. Flash latest CM or SlimRom and it's as good as it gets.
make sure its not clone...and check whether he/she drop/disassemble it...
and i agree with @MistahBungle, if you have the option to buy 1st-hand phone, drop the offer...2nd-hand is 50-50 even if it is in good condition
I would go for the S2 HD or S3.
480x800 isn't a nice resolution for 4.3 inch.
NO , Don't buy any phone that has no warranty at all as it will costs you to replace any faulty part in future if problem persists and they don't come for cheap..
There are now much better option available..
You can opt for Xperia SP , that's a good phone.. Moto G- The bestselling phone right now or any other Good phone phone in your budget..
Don't make decisions on the basis of what people said here... Just mak a list And decide on your own what features or requirements you need and then go for that phone..
BTW Moto G is really good , if you don't click many pics , that will suit your requirement , However Outdoor are stil pretty good..
If root & custom ROMS are not your choice and just want to use pure android and its smoothness .. Go for Moto G..
Well i would go for moto g because newer plus not exynos(more developer support) and kitkat official or get s3 if you can these are good alternatives but if you want an s2 so bad get it if better price.
I would buy a second hand 2 year old no warranty S2 for maybe 50$ or lesser, but that pricing itself will get me suspicious enough to not get it at all, don't get me wrong, I love my old faithful and sturdy S2 to still not upgrade and probably will hang on to it till the day it dies, but as a new and cheap investment I would go for the Moto G as many other's recommend here.

Hi guys I'm thinking of buying a Song Ultra Z and just wanted to get you guy's input if there are some downfalls that I don't know of/commonly known.
Im upgrading from a galaxy note one which has been a nightmare: calls breaking up, power button, overheating.
Also if you have any recomended accessories.
Much Thanks!
I came from a Note1 myself and have only one advice for you: Buy it blindly [emoji16]

I too, came from the Note and i'm still happy with it (bought mine last september). It's pretty big (but very thin) and the camera isn't the greatest, and that's about it really.
I came from a note also. Its really nice phone. Although battery is not that good compared to note2. Also it has no camera flash but im still okay with it

Buy the Sony phone and run the ported GPe ROM on it !
Think of buying this phone as it is relatively cheap compared to other phones im my region.
Should I get this or the G2, the prices are the same...
I like this thing primarily for its size and display.
I just want one thing to know, can I flash cm11 android 4.4 here? I dont care about warranty. My current phone, lg optimus 4x never fell from my hand ever, so I am careful with my devices.
I would be going for a 5.5 inch phone but this thing is the cheapest larger than 5 inch phone.

Yes, CM11, and others are available, so that's not an issue. You've probably seen the preview of Android "L" today, so just imagine that on 6.44 inches. It'll be sweet.
The G2 isn't a bad device though, but you can't compare those two since they are two different types of devices (phone vs phablet), but I can easily recommend the Ultra.
I've had every high end phone and this by far is the best if you can deal with no flash and mediocre camera performance. I never need a tablet this thing is actually my main computer. I torrent the hell out of it fixed the ext sd card write permission and download like crazy on unlimited data.

You can also try save your device, but this needs root. Try LagFix (fstrim) from the Play Store ^^.
