Why don't most phones come with a camera lens cover slider such as like this
http://blog.se-nse.net/sony-ericsson-announces-the-c901-for-emerging-markets/
so people don't have to do this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEhaVmyZaBw
If anyone has a good solution for lens protection I really appreciate it...it always gets dusty, scratched overtime etc...

my nokia had it like the sonny you showed and still gets dusty. I think they should make the lens of some kind of material that doesnt get dust to stick. I remember the iphone 4 lens were uncovered and never got dusty, might just be the lens material..

dust i can live with, I'll wipe it...scratches I can't!!! i might just buy a generic cheap screen cover and try to cut it out, but it'll be a hard task to do a good job!!! I'm also afraid its going to affect the picture and camera quality with a cover like that on.

Ya have a case which is actually raised where the camera is so it helps protect it, but lets say you put it in you pocket with keys (I try to never do that) Now what??? the camera is still out in the open, the backplate doesn't protect it like some other phones...my old nexus ones backplate covered the camera with an extra glass, so if it got scratched you could just replace the backplate...this phone there's nothing to protect it...this is a big deal for me as I am an avid picture taker.
Here's what I do. Buy a roll of high quality 3m clear tape like for packing. Cut out just enough to fit over the camera. And I don't mean a small circle I cut to fit the shape of the silver part. Here's a hint: don't touch the sticky part youre applying with your figertips. Firmly apply and as your doing so try to stretch it a bit. For quick snaps you won't even know its there. Otherwise peel back shoot re apply.
Yeah cheesy but it works great.
I'm digging my amaze....

yet another sonyericsson phone with good camera cover
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VXPxko79aI&feature=related
...a lot sonyericsson phones come with that kind of cover, with LED flash PLUS xenon flash, learn HTC, learn. With such high quality camera's now...I would assume that xenon flash and led flash (for flashlight purposes perhaps or video recording) would be a norm. I would also assume a sliding cover would also be a norm...I mean face it our camera takes better pics than many point and shoot camera's out there, and those aall have lenses that have either covers or retract...If HTC is going to advertise this as their "phone geared toward camera" they should have included such things in my opinion, then again there's alway cost, i would probably end up being around 900 bucks unsubsidized...which if you think about it is good, if you have an amazing point and shoot camera and an amazing phone all in one..

Glass piece ? There's no glass piece on the amaze lens, its just the lens housed in an aluminum cover. And its open .

its is a valid idea but I have a feeling the tape will collect dust since it will have sticky borders, and doesn't really prove scratch protection (not that durable).
something like a big generic type of boxwave screen protection would do better i would say since its not as sticky and you can cut many pieces out of it when its time to replace, if you need to replace it at all!!! I'm talking about the screen covers that dont' require water and sopa (not the ones like zagg) but ones that just go on. only concern is how it'll change the picture and video clarity!!! ahhh, i'm takling too much!!
Yeah you do have to be diligent with it, replace a lot , and somthing could poke through and scratch it. But clarity is exactly why I chose tape...now I'm talkin to much...lol

Have scratched lenses been a problem? Are we creating a problem where none exists? Just asking. Are we covering the lens on the assumption that the design must lead to scratches, or cuz the design DOES lead to scratches

yes lenses get tiny scratches over time, they are just glass. heck even gorilla glass gets scuffed up over time, here's a guy who cracked the lens COVER, but he could fix that by getting a new backplate since its this htc phone HAS a lens cover on the backplate. imagine when people start cracking the actual lens, then the camera becomes completely useless and you'll need to get a new phone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HttusQFAp3I
up till now most phones had a glass cover on the backplate, that glass cover would get scratched up like crazy after a year of use, MY N1 had that lens cover on the backplate, I had to order a new backplate after a year so I could shoot clear pictures again...the amaze has no such glass over the actual lens... this can create big problems down the line, since its faily new people have not noticed it yet. worse yet, it can break!!!!

hmmm worth a try, I don't have all this spare money to spend on a bunch of different things though lol.
they have this too, but minimu order is 300 units, its basically the same as as a screen protector, anyone want to go in for 300 units and split it, lol.
I'm awaiting the arrival of my evo lte and am debating on if a case is needed or not. It sounds like it's rock solid, and the screen is gorilla glass, so is something really that needed. Yes, I saw the one post where someone actually did crack the screen, so I understand it can happen, but is it really that likely?
The case I am considering is the basic TPU case that is cropping up on here. My biggest concern is that I want it as slim as possible, and even though the case is supposed to be about as slim as can be, it still adds some bulk.
Anyway, all thoughts are appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I think i may get one because this thing is so nice Im scared handling it.
I wasn't planning on using a case but it's so thin I need one to be able to hold onto the damn thing. I have small hands, so you'd think thinner would be better, but no.

I normally don't get cases or screen protectors. My EVO 4G went a year and a half without a scratch on the screen or a chip in the body.
The SGSII lasted less than six months before the same result.
EVO LTE is in a Platinum case (which sucks) with a Zagg HD screen protector.

good luck when that phone falls
One additional idea I had was to get some kind of sleeve to put it in when not in use. I think it may also come down to how it feels in my hand once I have it.
I've never really kept a case on any of my phones. I'm very good at handling them (except when my wife klutzes it up). I just know that my hands aren't the biggest, and with these phones getting bigger every year, adding a case just makes it worse.
And... I have TEP, and have always kept it.
Using a case is like wearing a condom. Sure it feels better without it but you're taking a chance. Some protection is better then no protection.

Nice analogy.... The phone is so thin to the point it feels slippery. I always use otterbox cases for all my phones. I'm clumsy.
I like my phones like my women, naked! Sanding the top cover makes it a bit more grippy. When I'm drunk in the club and holding the phone over the toilet, I make sure the kickstand is out and between my index and ring finger so it doesn't drop.
First phone I actually bought a case for.
Someone needs to make a back replacement piece that replaces the top plastic half to match the bottom metal half.

I had an otterbox case on my OG EVO and for the many time ive dropped it not a single chip or scratch... the second I took it off and dropped it I broke something under the glass (not the glass) and the screen is completely unusable... the second i got my free case from sprint i slapped it on the LTE and im waiting for the new otterbox from amazon so i can put that on it... i drop stuff too much to risk it lol... go with a case because you never know what around the next corner
I bought the Platinum Series case and I like it a lot. Very comparable to the OtterBox case but about $14 cheaper, and comes with a clip. I found it at Best Buy. I would post a link, but I can't yet. Just search it out on their site.
I read that Sprint was sending out a free case with every EVO LTE, to make amends for the whole customs situation. Anyone receive one of those or know if it only applies to those who ordered direct from Sprint?
Since I opted out of the insurance, I'll be putting a case on mine. My OG EVO did quite well with the official HTC TPU case, so I'm considering this TPU case by Diztronic.
I'm also considering getting a screen protector, but not sure how necessary it'd be with the harder Gorilla glass. I'd be primarily using it to protect against scratches from keys, change, etc that might end up in my pocket.

You can actually sand the top half to match the bottom. I might try this, though it's not that noticeable either way, as my case will cover it.
See here for instructions on sanding.
No, put at least a tpu case on it. It's super slim, hardly adds any bulk, and gives you grip on the phone.
I probably won't put a screen protector on till my first scratch but you got to remember sand or even dust can still scratch the gorilla glass. So be careful at the beach all you summer beach goers.

I can't stand cases. If it's a polycarbonate/plastic phone cases no makes now sense.
If it's a metal phone like iPhone/HTC one, then you sacrifice the sweet touch of aluminium on Ur phone.
Hate screen cases even more cos it adds so many steps in reaching upto the screen.
It's a phone for God's sake. You don't buy a BMW Z4 and cover it with plastic while driving.
I love to feel the aluminium and glass and hence no case no screen protector. That's the reason I guess we pay extra for Gorilla Glass.

No case here as well as no screen protector.
My wellsfargo credit card comes with free accidental insurance when I pay my phone bill with the card. It allows up to 2 claims per year and only have to pay $25 per claim. That's cheaper than paying for a good case and screen protector.

Naked Here ..
I paid a LOT of money for this phone and I guess part of that is for the design.. It doesn't make sense to hid this beauty with some plastic .. saving the phone for the next buyer..
Well, when I do go naked it tends to get noticed more, and the police don't look upon it too kindly either
Seriously though, the first phone that "I went naked" with, was my Note 2. It got battered, so considering I've spent £100 more on this bad boy, I've given it a TPU condom
But just waiting for Spigen to make the slim armour case (or whatever it's called) then will give it some all round yet, svelte protection.

This.. And I dont use cases. Just look at the phone with one on makes it look so much think, ugly and down right crap. (Reminds me of bumber iphone cases) and it gets grit, dust and all sorts of crap in it the case. Just relax, use the phone as intended and don't keep it brand new looking in a case for the next owner. Enjoy it yourself.
You dont by a new car then keep the seat plastics and door transport plastics on it...No you use it as intended .
This phone cost 5500kr (990 USD) In Denmark (thanks Danish tax etc.) so I'm going for a thin bumper and a clear screen protector
No screen protector but I have to use a case or I get nervous, I'm very careful but I've had it slide in the car a couple of times and between seats where it would have been marred had no case been on it. I do take the case off when I'm relaxing at home to admire it tho lol. I use a clear case btw so I can see the back and it is hard gel providing more grip.
I won't think about going naked until full body protectors come out. Even though it doesn't protect from drops, at least it'll protect it from scratches.
Got my note 3 a few days ago and I'm loving it. I love the feel, the leather back, the slimness. It's great. But I feel I should be protecting it somehow.
I went for an official S View case but it turns out it's not official and i'm not sure I want to spend £50 on a case that doesn't offer full protection.
I've had a browse but can't seem to find one that would not effect the profile of the phone. Does anyone have any suggestions
Thanks.

Dunno about slim cases (I have a UAG), but I'd definitely recommend a tempered glass screen protector. Especially if you were interested in getting the authentic S-view case.
I bought an $8 eBay protector recommended in the tempered glass screen protector thread and have been very happy with it. Cheap way to keep your screen scratch free.
The problem I've found with screen protectors is that I can't apply them for them life of me. They always bubble or get fluff stuck under them.

Try the tempered glass protectors. I used the MIME Ghost Glass for my S4 and i just got one for my Note 3. It just got here like 30 min ago. IF you get one, you don't have to worry about bubbles, they come out on their own in like an hour or 2. Just apply it in a bathroom after running the shower with hot water to get a touch (NOT a lot) of steam in the air. That pulls all the dust particles out of the air as you apply it.
As for the cases, I agree. I like the feel of the Note 3 naked. I also got a case that makes it actually feel more slippery. I love the case as i had the same for my S4 but it is more slippery. I picked up the Spigen Slim Armor case in the metal color.
I have a bumper case, just the frame around the phone. My phone already fell out from the pocket of my pants, when I was changing (frankly I thought I had the phone in my jacket, otherwise would be more careful) onto the wooden floor from about 4 feet and I think I would have already some type of damage, if it wasn't for the bumper case. I like my phone very much, therefore having it in pristine condition is more important than anything else.
Something like this:

Caseology, Spigen, and UAG are the only way to go for cases.

This is going to sound odd, but in order to get a flawless application of your screen protector . . . do it in the bathroom. I always run the shower as hot as it gets for a few minutes prior to trying to apply the screen protector to let the steam pull most of the dust particles out of the air. I also line up the screen protector prior to removing the backing and tape one side so that it functions like a hinge. This way once the backing is removed you do not have to worry about lining up the protector and it basically applies itself from the taped side.

Question might be lame but just to make sure - Can tempered glass be removed if needed or once is applied/glued thats it ?
It will just lift up. No residue left really. Think of it as more sticky and does not bond like a glue. Until you crank one and have to remove it... It's kinda hard to describe. But it comes up as easy as it is to put down
Ordered it. Should be here soon. Do I still need a screen protector with it do you think?

just want to ask something about tempered screen protector. i just bought the spigen glass tr screen protector and had applied it successfully on my note 3 just having one little lint underneath but i dont care too much about it as it cant be seen when the screen is on. but i want to ask is tempered glass has any side effect to my screen ? such as reduce the screen sensitivity as i heard from someone that using tempered glass has negative effect. is it true ?
I haven't noticed any sensitivity issues. To be fair, I put the protector on only a few days after I purchased the phone, but I honestly never noticed any ill effects after installation.
On my S4 or this phone I've never had sensitivity issue with either phone. The Spen works flawlessly with THE MIME Ghost Glass (is only 32mm thick as to Spigens tr glass which is .40mm thick)
Well my case turned up and I love it. Such a well made product.

Hi,
I'm currently using a simple rubber case for the side and back. But, as it has few downsides, I have a question: is the case really needed? I want to hear from you, how this phone performs without the case, does it scratch, or damage easily?
Thanks for any helpful replies.
I liked my phones how I like my women: naked. I didn't drop it once, so I can't tell you what damage it can take (although I'm pretty sure the glass might crack, but I'm not in the habit of dropping my phone), what I can tell you is that the back panel is easily scratchable, so I put a screen protector on it (only on the back). The screen is doing excellent by now, not a single scratch, although I might put a protector on it when the summer comes, I don't want any sand on the glass.
Depends, do you have any history of dropping phones? We all have different cases, some people drop their phones often, some do not. Also, there are a huge variety of cases for the z2, mine is a very thin 0.3mm case which feel good in hand, but doesn't provide that much protection.
Regarding the scratches, I can confirm that some cases scratch the back if there are dust and dirt trapped inside.
In my opinion yes, if u are not a rich man like me. Atleast ill use a case for 1 - 2 years before ill naked my phone.

Get a case if you dont like scratching the sides and the back of your phone. If you want to keep your phone slim with mediocre protection, you can try Spigen Ultra Fit. Im using it. Im happy with it as it has protected my phone from falls before, like 3 times, without any damage or scratch. Bulky ones arent my type. I keep my phone on my side pocket. Been using this phone for 7 months, not a scratch! Im just lucky or very cautious. Good luck!
It's not really needed, but I think it's worth the money because of the added protection.

Both times it cracked whilst in my front pocket.
I wouldn't suggest tight pants with the phone Haha.
EDIT: not hard at all. Look it up on YouTube. Took me about a minute.

It was really easy. Phone was a bit sticky at first, but the provided cloth fixed that problem. Replacing it should be easy, but I don't know for sure. My new screen protector should come in on tuesday

Thanks for the feedback. I'll research a bit more into this.

Hi,
I'm currently using a simple rubber case for the side and back. But, as it has few downsides, I have a question: is the case really needed? I want to hear from you, how this phone performs without the case, does it scratch, or damage easily?
Thanks for any helpful replies.

There are good quality tempered glass out there that doesn't break easily...

Hi, if you don't want your phone to get scratches on front/back glass panels, I suggest you buy a tempered glass protector. There are many brands out there that you can buy in the market (e.g. Spigen, Nillkin etc.)
I have white colour and I don't want it to get stained so I'm using a cover.

Yeah. I've got a nasty scratch on the front, so Nillkin H+ is on my way.
InviGuard
Anyone hear uses InviGuard to replace Hard cases?
You might wanna consider a case that can lift up the back slightly. I didn't use a case, but 2 weeks later, I scratched the camera lens already. So I really suggest using a case

I don't use a case, because until now I believed in dragonglass. Unfortunately something scratched the back of my phone. Although Xperia devices are very good, next time I'll use a case.
I bought my phone and used it without a case for nearly one week. I was so stressed that it could slip and broke the front or back glass, then I bought a cheap but efficient hybrid case, it has like rubber and hard plastic covering the back.
Also, my phone now looks black, as it is white and I don't like that color.
