Hi, i just wondering if we can replace Samsung Vibrant screen with the Samsung Galaxy S 4G one so that we don't need to manually make a hole for our front facing camera, is that possible?
If so, that would be really awesome.
any body?
I dont see why not except, isnt the screen glued on and wouldn't removing the screen make it impossible to re-attach another
I think u could...as long as u carefully remove the old glue with some goo gone or something like it..but im not sure what kinda glue to use to reattach the screen

I've installed an FFC on my vibrant. You don't need a new screen. You just need to take apart the phone from the back. The bezel doesn't even have to come off. Get yourself a Revision 2 FFC and when you go to install it, the only thing you'll need is a guitar pick (works great) or another safe prying tool to take the phone apart, Goo-Gone and Q-Tips. The hardest part of the whole process is the amount of time you'll be sitting there taking the black paint off the screen with the Goo-Gone. It's taken me about 30 minutes on two phones I've done. The hole is already there. Your phone will look just like the Galaxy S 4G!
Thanks for the reply, but the Vibrant my friend gave me has a cracked screen and bezel that I have to replace anyway. I figured it might be easier to just buy a new screen with a camera hole already (which the T959V does have) than to scrape out one.
Also what rom do you recommend? Seems they all have problems - unstable, no 911, no gps etc.

as far as roms go for 911, only the Cyangen based roms have that issue, gps fonuctions on almost all 2.3 roms, and all 2.1/2.2 roms. stability really seems based on the device. i use Miui as a daily driver, yet i see people complain about issues that in the 5 months of running it I have never personally experienced.

I know this is really late and a bit off topic to be honest, but to anyone interested, I just used a LCD/Digitizer/Bezel/microphone/antennae assembly out of a Vibrant to put in my SGS4G. Different application, but I'm sure it'll work the same given the circumstances of any one still wanting to put a front facing camera in their Vibrant. The only difference is I had to switch out the ear piece/audio jack/proximity sensor assembly because it had a different connector on the board. This is the lazy fix for someone who has both phones, but needs to swap out certain parts. In my case it was the entire screen and bezel, but this confirms the OP's question, yes it will work.
Just thought I post results since I came to this thread in the first place looking for answers.
I am having an issue with my phone not reacting correctly to the proximity sensor. When I am in call, the screen shuts off when I put the phone to my face like it is supposed to, however when I remove it from my ear the screen doesn't come back on. I tested the sensor with an app called sensor list, and it is without a doubt working correctly. I have a custom kernel installed. Could that be causing my issue, or is the software just bugged?
Stock, rooted, unlocked, what Rom? Info would be a good starting place.

Stock rom, debloated, rooted, and incredikernel beta 6.
I ordered a new digitizer to replace my mildly scratched one and would like to replace the prox switch while I have it apart. does anyone have any clue where I can get a replacement? Or better yet, what is the exact switch I need. I have an old d1 somewhere, can I Frankenstein that into my rezound to make some abomination?
I recommend testing the sensor itself to rule out whether it is a hardware of a software issue. There are many proximity sensor tester apps in the Play Store.
Edit: NVM, it looks like you already did test it. Disregard this post.
This is what part the Elixir app reads on my Rezound; the phone hardware revision B rather than XA if that has any impact (likely not for this simple part, check under the battery to make sure you have a B model phone if you wish):

the op was from a while back, I have since got my sensor to fail the test. Thus I will replace it. I don't want to send my phone in only to be received by someone in a bad mood who will charge me 650 bucks for unlocking my bootloader. And they will send me a refurbished device that will probably have more problems than this one.

Despite the fact that nobody has actually had that happen yet???
So you will void the warranty instead... so if you really break it, you don't have no repair option at all.

This makes more sense... but even then there, it is not 100% you will get a refurbed unit or that you will have problems with what you get.
BTW, my stock unit doesn't turn the display on when you take your face away from the screen. I always have to press one of the volume keys to get the display back on (easier than reaching the power button)
My display stays off as well. Does not seem hardware related to me.

I have already had this phone apart and the little green void sticker is already gone.
I guess if everyone is having this same issue, it must be a design flaw. I doubt I will correct it by changing the sensor. The screen is supposed to come back on when you remove the phone from your face, unless that's a software bug in sense.
The real question is does it work in 100% stock Gingerbread no custom anything. If it does work then it could be a app or the kernel if it doesn't work then its hardware.
How is this such a hard concept for people to grasp?

If you look at my op I was on 100% stock gingerbread other than a kernel. If everyone has the same problem, yes it is hardware related, but it is a design flaw. It is unlikely that everyone who posted has a bad proximity sensor.
Yes I did read and as you just posted your not on 100% pure stock. You said stock rom, but never said stock ics or gingerbread but like I said best way to test is go 100% stock no mods at all and even go the route of no extra apps, it may seem extreme but its crazy all apps that can cause issues.

Here is the real question. Does your screen always go off when you cover the sensor. Mine does not. I have to try several times, and when it finally does turn off, it only sometimes comes back on. other times, I have to press the power button. Who else is experiencing this?
Mine acts as if it had no proximity sensor at all. Programs say it does, but it always reads that something is zero cm. away from it... power button is the only way I've found to turn the screen back on.
I bet a lot of HTC phones have this issue. When I searched the number for this sensor, a lot of their phones came up as results. I think we are all running bugged hardware.

So is it just a strip of the screen?
If you really really wanna be able to get it unlocked, Download the correct version of clockwork mod for our phone one that's not touch, has to use the volume rockers and fresh install the rom, Or as a matter of fact, Just boot into whatever recovery you have and clear data/factoryreset, that'll get rid of your lock pin
Hello from me too!
I have a strip on my touch screen that doesn't work. It's right where the Search button and Install on Play Store is and Clear on the Phone notifications, too.
It had the stock rom, I have replaced the screen with the digitizer when it fell down. It worked after that. I had to unscrew the phone one more time because my LCD was touching the screen and the phone had gone mad. After that, and a couple of days later, I noticed that the strip didn't work anymore. Today I finally flashed a new rom (King Cobra 3d) and nothing's changed so I figured it might be a hardware problem...
What's your opinion?
Thank you!

I've replaced my digitizer twice myself. I got a cheaper one the first time, and figure that's what I get for trying to go on the cheap. (I was out of warranty). Sorry to say it but it could be that again.

I think I'll buy a new one... I unscrewed it a while ago so I could see if sth had been misplaced or if the digitizer had scratches or sth like that.
I saw that the ribbon's top had been ripped off right where it bends on top of the LCD... Don't know if that's the problem...
p.s. I live in Greece. My carrier is Cosmote. We don't have Sprint here...
Yep, if the ribbon cable is ripped, that would be your problem. Don't go too cheap on your replacement. Good luck!

The last one I got from Amazon is the one I'm using now (about a month old), and spent $20 US on it, which was NOT the cheapest of them. Not knowing the exchange rate right off hand, would venture to say the one you're speaking of is not a "cheap" one. So go for it. Just take your time replacing it and be careful with ALL the ribbon cables. Good luck!
Hey, guys. I'm asking this question for my friend's wife who believes she's having trouble with her screen. She claims that apps will open when she means to swipe, and that the screen is overly sensitive.
I won't rule out user error, but if any of you have heard other reports of this, and perhaps have a solution, let me know?
Thanks in advance!
Before root I can vouch that it was sensitive. After root and downloading viper it hasn't been sensitive at all.

Ok, so do I take that to mean you feel the screen is now not sensitive enough? Do you think it was the rooting that caused the change in sensitivity, or the ROM? In the case of my friend's wife, she has no interest in flashing ROMs or any such thing, she just needs the phone to work for her.
Is there some sort of patch that can be applied to fix it so that we don't have to flash another ROM?
Yes I understand. She may be doing it wrong when she is swiping from screeb to screen. She maybe pressing down first enabling the app to start up. Maybe the phone does have problems. She can speak with a tech from Verizon and do trouble shoot.

What i meant was stock dna was too sensitive. it was very sensitive when i touch the screen and it would open apps just like you said in the first post. When i rooted the phone and installed viper, it got less sensitive and it was much better.

Understanding of the technology is needed.
All smartphones now a days use what's called a "capacitive" screen. Back during the old days it was called "resistive". The difference is big. Resistive touch screens needed to be calibrated routinely. The user also needed to push into the screen for the input to happen. They were unreliable because they would go bad from people pushing to hard and they had to be plastic for it bendable nature allowing scratches.
Capacitive screens use the electricity (not heat) in your body to pickup input. Therefore glass could be used and thus making it more scratch resistant and without a constant bendable nature, became more reliable. When your finger touches the screen there is a build up of ions underneath your finger. Think about how lightning hits the earth. These charges find the most efficient route thru your finger (like lightning). Hence people with giant fat fingers can use a keyboard on a 3"screen. Because as long as the piece of skin making contact is directly over the input out chooses the center because it is the most efficient route thru it otherwise rounded finger tips. However if we gently push into the screen then more surface area becomes available causing the "center" of contact to shift causing the screen to shift along with it because the system thinks it is the user trying to swipe.
This becomes an issue for people who in the past used resistive screens because they want to push into the screen(more so when they get frustrated as they continue to not choose what they intended because they try to force the finger onto the screen even harder). It is a matter of breaking a habit. Let's face it . Everyone hates change and would much rather keep everything the same.
I highly feel that by returning and trying a different phone will not help.

I just bought a SGP311 (US Wifi 32G). When researching what tablet to buy, I did see some reference to phantom screen touches when flexing the screen, but I think the video said it was cleared up by firmware updates.
Mine is running .370, which I understand to be the newest available for the SGP311 (25 Aug 2013).
I find the phantom touches so sensitive and terrible that I can't believe there is not more stink about this on the internet. For example, if I'm holding the tablet with two hands and reach away with one hand, the resulting pressure from holding the tablet with the other hand causes touches all over the screen, wreaking havoc on whatever I'm doing. It even happens if I push "too hard" e.g. when playing a game excitedly.
Do I have a particularly bad unit for this? Is there a way to fix or mitigate this?
As it is, I don't think I can keep it - it's just too frustrating to use. If I hold it lightly and with two hands it's fine, but anything else - there's a high probability of touches all over the screen, especially in the Back button area
Mine doesn't do it. Or I'm not holding it "incorrectly"
Can you link to/upload a video showing this behaviour? You may want to turn on developer options->show touches to get an idea of what touches the device sees.
I have the same problem as the original poster...
Bought mine today and was messing around with it. Then I noticed the tablet 'doing stuff on its own'. After a quick test I realised I could reproduce the error by holding it in landscape and twisting it slightly. This resulted in either the back button being activated (lower left corner activated / pushed) or the settings notification area popping up (lower right corner activated).
So I guess they should have used a stiffer material as the back cover. But then again it seems almost inconceivable that the testers wouldn't have encountered this issue, if it was universal... so I'm guessing that our units are faulty - sonofabitch!
At the same time its my very unqualified guess that it isn't something which can be fixed by new firmware.
Edit: Just thought of something ... perhaps thats why the UI of the new firmware has changed? No more 'buttons' in the lower corners (as far as Im aware).

I had these same issues with mine when i got it but the update did actually fix mine so its possible that, if you are on the 370 update, that yours is extra sensitive. I have done quite a few flex tests to try to make it happen again and just can't get it to repeat after the update.
I would contact either the place you bought it from if it is within the return/exchange policy or Sony and exchange it.

Im using 10.1.C.0.370 - tablet came with that installed.
For once I actually bought electronics in a physical store (5mins walk away) so I'll go there and get them to replace it - and also test their demo model.
The demo model had the same issues. It also seems the issue is quite widespread judging by the Xperia tablet Z support forum.

So that's what's happening
I am having the exact same issue, in fact I didn't realize it was the flexing that was causing the issue until I read this thread. Now I can reproduce it consistently. I am so bummed, I LOVE this tablet, Sony has a lot of great stuff they put into this tablet and the form factor is amazing. I am pretty disappointed though because this makes it pretty hard to use. I checked and I am running the latest firmware. For what they charge for this thing you would think it would be a better piece of hardware. Back to Best Buy I go I supposed.
