Im actually enjoying sense as it is beleive it or not so i dont really plan on flashing anything (for now anyways) however i do miss my root apps so i was hoping there was a quicker root/unroot method out there.
I did get my unlock bin from htc dev though haha, just in case.

Just thought I'd ask, anything you do can be reversed.
The reason I do it is for the things like quick settings, volume key wake and root apps.

Ya ive read the OP of just about every rom available for the one and i am very tempted to relapse ( im a recovering flashaholic ) but the "relocked" status of the bootloader worries me as ive had bad luck with warranty claims in the past.

Complete HTC noob here coming from a Droid X. Ive gone through the unlock, I am permanently rooted. AmonRa is installed and Ive got my NANDROID backup done up.
Im looking for advice on a solid method to remove all of the garbage from this phone to help lighten things up a bit.
Again, I am an HTC noob and I really am scared shartless about bricking this lovely piece of equipment
I wanna know this too. Root explorer I deleted the app in system app but it still shows in app drawer.
What is the adb command to remove apps?
Also what is the adb command to pull an .apk. like gtunes so I can put it on another phone

Ever since I flashed my first ICS rom, I have not been able to connect to WiMax 4G. It just redirects to Clear's website telling me to sign up with them.
So my thinking is that my WiMax keys were deleted/overwritten/corrupted.
So my question is this, using CWM recovery, how do I restore my WiMax partition? I see no option to restore it, when I revert back to a previous backup I see all the other stages (system, recovery, boot, etc) being restored but never WiMax.
I do have a nandroid backup from prior to installing any ICS rom... Just can't do anything with it as of now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try doing dialer code ##3282# then go to edit mode and enter ur keys in the 1st part of the NAI under WiMAX but write everything down first before u change anything on the menu just in case

Already did that (kind of) I reverted back to the last GB nandroid I had, took screenshots of all my wimax info in epst, went back to ICS and all settings were the same.
Now I think that was a failed test anyway. Like I said CWM goes through all the things it is restoring, but wimax is never mentioned... ever. And there is no wimax option in "Advanced Restore" either.
There is a wimax-blahblahblah.img in each of my nandroid backup folders though... can I restore it via adb? Pull the wimax*.img from the sdcard and "adb flash wimax ./wimax.img" or something like that?
I am convinced I have the tools to fix this, just not the knowledge yet lol.
More info (trying to fix via fastboot...)
Ok, so I pulled the CWM backup of my wimax partition...
Code:
adb pull /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-05-06.23.15.11/wimax.SERIALNUMBER.img ~/wimax.orig.img
Which yeilded:
4017 KB/s (12583424 bytes in 3.058s)
At this point I am thinking "Woot! going as planned!"...
Ok, so fastboot time...
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Ok, "FASTBOOT USB" displayed, awesome.
Code:
fastboot flash wimax /home/ranthony/Desktop/wimax.orig.img
sending 'wimax' (12288 KB)...
OKAY [ 2.770s]

Also, the NAI is your 4G MAC address (minus all the :'s) @sprintpcs.com, not a key.

I checked the md5 sum between my wimax backup prior to the problem and compared to the md5 sum of a more recent backup... same. Problem is not related to anything in it

MAY, I repeat MAY have found a solution.
I went back into epst, and for some reason my realm was "sprintpcs.com " with a trailing space. I took this out, committed changes, and it rebooted. I went back into epst and the trailing space didn't come back... Hopefully with android being a linux based os where even something as simple as a letter being in the wrong case can screw things up, the fix may be just that simple. Will update when I get a chance to waste gas and drive out to a 4G coverage area again...
Solved.
Damn trailing space ... can't even see it unless you try to edit the realm setting.
But, I got my 4th G back!

I figured I would put this together as alot of folks seemed to be having trouble with the Photon Torpedo Method of rooting. Since Ive been nuked with the new update I put together a torpedo package that is mostly scripted so it should be nice and easy to install.
Standard: I am not responsible if you brick your phone!
Who Should Use This?
- Users that have devices that are not rooted
- Will work on all builds up to 4.5.1A-1_SUN-254_13
Who Should Not Use This?
- Users that are already rooted.
Whats Included?
- Newest su Binary as of 8/7/12
- Newest Superuser app
- Busybox Installation
- Root Cleaner (will clean up old root installs or unroot current ones) {NEW! with v1.1 8/9/12}
What Does This Do?
- Installs All Components Needed for Root Access
What This Doesn't Do?
- Unlock Your Bootloader
- Make You More Popular
Instructions
- Download
- Unzip
- Make sure Moto Drivers are installed
- Make sure phone is in USB Debugging mode
- Run Photon-Torpedo Direct v1.1.bat (Sorry Mac users Windows only at this time)
- Follow on screen prompts
There are 5 commands that need to be typed(2 of them are exit) and they are displayed in the script.
Tips
- When running the photon-torpedo.sh it will throw an error (dont panic) but it doesnt matter as long as it ends up at a # prompt
- When running the kill-su.sh in the Root Cleaner it will throw a mount error (again dont panic) the phone will remount when it reboots so no biggie but Im working on it

Yes once rooted you can install bootstrap and use it to flash roms and make backups. But use caution if you are on the 254_13 build im not sure if there are any compatible roms yet. but 198_7 and down are fine.

I'm hoping someone who has the know-how will jump on this, since my knowledge and skill level when it comes to this kind of thing is admittedly limited at best. However, a thought did cross my mind, so I decided to give it a shot.
I'm one of the many that lost root with the JB OTA. It just goes to prove the saying, "Look before you leap." Anyhow, here's the idea, I just don't know how to make it work, or even if it will work.
When trying to flash back to ICS through fastboot, everything will flash except boot.img, and the system will boot with adb fully accessible, but the display will remain blank. I did attempt some of the confirmed root methods that are confirmed to work on the Razr running ICS, but I ran into some permission problems that I was unable to resolve. With stock ICS in place, except for the ICS bootloader, what is the chance of getting root through adb, then backing up the necessary files and restoring them after reflashing JB?
sounds like a good idea maybe someone will try this soon

i try doing it manual, selecting sodoku as a debugger app and even waiting for debugger app and restarting trying again.. no luck so far. ill let you know if anything comes up.

edit: no luck, tried everything, with out it going into that bug report mode theres not much i can do
Firstly, boot.img contains the kernel and supplementary files. Secondly, ICS exploits use a bug which is caused by the supplementary files mentioned above.

I broke my screen completely. I want to replace the device with insurance.
I am rooted, S-Off, Nil's Business 3.6 v6.4 installed. USB debugging is enabled. The device shows up when using the command "adb devices".
What is the best way to ensure a good brick? I was thinking of flashing a boot.img file made from an MP3 or something in fastboot.
Thoughts?
why would you brick it?? why dont you just lock it and RUU?
The device keeps going offline in adb. I don't think I have time to do anything in adb at this point.
Screw it. I'm going to brick it the "old-fashioned" way. If I can't fine any bricks, maybe I'll check out how some truck tires work.
Hex edit a hboot, just mess up some bytes or delete some. Then flash it in bootloader.. That should brick it pretty hard.

Quick question. I was trying to "adb pull mnt" to pull files from the phone. It only transfer a few MB's or so before going offline.
After many battery pulls, I can "adb rebooot recovery". From recovery, it won't go offline, but I can't adb pull from recovery.
Is there a way to transfer files from the phone in recovery?

I think you'd have to mount the storage within recovery.. Maybe blindly select mount since your screen isn't working.
What recovery are you on? If your amon I can post instructions for you to do it blindly
EDIT. so for amon it will be this :
Once in recovery
1. Press down volume 6x
2. Press power
3. Press down 4x for ext_sd
Or 5x for sdcard
4. Press power
You could also try this.. Havnt tried myself.
It's the usb mass storage setting in amon
To get that just :
1. Press down volume 1x
2. Press power
3. Press down volume 1x for ext_sd
Or 2x for internal sd
4. Press power
I'm assuming that will make it show up as an external storage on your computer

Hmm sounds like you want help with insurance fraud. You realize that if the phone is damaged in any way they will deny coverage and make you pay full retail for the replacement phone? A cracked screen would make you ineligible for a warranty replacement.
Good luck with that
