Wifi tether w/o ATT plan - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Anyone know how to enable the native tether function w/o purchasing the ATT plan? I have rooted my device. I am running a customed kernel from M7 forum. I don't want to switch the kernel (I knew there is a mod in this forum). Anyone know how to enable the function manually?

Hmmmm let me see, wouldn't this be located in development under "wifi hotspot"?

Yeah you can flash CyanogenMod M7 nightly and then you can tether using AndroidAP which comes default.

Custom ROM wit8h T-Mobile TV & tethering functional?

Does anyone know of a custom ROM that allows me to use both T-Mobile TV and free tethering?
I've tried using the T-Mobile bloater .zip on BulletProof, but that won't allow me to use the TV app (saying my device isn't compatible).
Before anyone says anything, yes, I've tried searching.
Download the tv app from the market...it'll work if you're a t-mobile customer. Tethering works for me....look in the Amaze>Themes and Applications Section..there is a thread.

I tried downloading the app on BulletProof, but still gives me the same thing.

I haven't used BP so I'm not too sure if the string is correct.

[Q] How to enable tether... build.prop?

How to enable?
I know with the HTC Jetstream, we had to go in with Root Explorer, mount /system and change some values around in build.prop. Very simple.
I went in to the build.prop file in /system but didn't see where to edit those same values.
I'm hoping to just simply use the stock tether app. I enjoy its UI.
Also, I saw no thread on this so this might be a good thread to have around...
Hmmm. I thought it was an edit in the services.jar. ?
sent from my Evo LTE, usually.
And how would I go about editting services.jar? It isn't text edition friendly like build.prop.
I believe this is an important question for those wanting to use stock tether.

I just downloaded WiFi Tether 3.1 beta from the Play Store. I have the Device Profile as Generic ICS and it works fine. The only thing I have done is Root the phone, still on the stock rom.
Yea. I could use Google's WiFi tether I'm sure, but I prefer the stock.

I use wireless tether to. It works perfectly. What difference does it matter what app you use to tether so long as you are able to tether?

Have either of you tethered to an Andriod tablet? On my photon, I couldn't get wifi tether app to be used on my tablet.
Are you transmitting in Ad-Hoc mode or Infrastructure?
Wait, Is there a free way to tether without root?

I'm not sure. I think it'd be a smali edit. I'm just going by what I seem to remember reading. I don't know how to edit smali. Sorry.

Easiest and fastest way to get wifi tether

Wife just got new 3d from Sprint as replacement and wants to use it to tether.. Are there any ways to get it to tether without rooting? If not what's the easiest way just to root so she can tether. It came with the new ics update. Thanks in advance for any information

You have built in wifi tether app

You options are to pay sprint to use the built-in tether, or root and use Wifi Tether.
You can use clockwork tether without rooting but it will cost you $5 for the app and it only works through USB,
I was using the tethering thing and now I got a letter from sprint wanting to terminate my account do to not obeying my contract, I think they only found is because I did a profile or prl update. Before that nothing and I was using it for months, so advice to you all, don't update your profile or prl .keep you all updated when I speak to them on monday

From what I hear you can use WiFi tether app without them knowing about it as long as you don't use their native tethering which of course would have to hacked.

TreveModTether issue 4.3

Who successfully has treve tether working on there htc one on 4.3 and how which apk what settings?
Yet to see it work with htc only Samsung

Why not use stock app? It's what I use, after the fix if course, which will require a hard reset or fresh flash.

Neither am I, I'm on the true unlimited 4G data plan that does not include tethering and use the stock app.

Which rom are you on? I was also searching for a solution for this, I use the built in system hotspot and tmobile still docks me.

I'm on Insert Coin 7.0.3 with a few personal edits to the framework-res.apk to remove the tether block and unlock apns.

Does anyone know if there's something I can delete in titanium backup to get unlimited tethering? I know on my old Samsung's there was something and I don't want to just go around deleting random things

Does your plan include tethering ? If so you don't need to delete anything..which I think most higher plans do now

I was grandfathered in to the unlimited plan. I do not have tethering. I relied on custom rims basically to get rid of the tether block

Devs doing roms here should know how to enable tethering, I have it enabled on mine but unless on custom rom and rooted doesnt help much...Knoxraid just released a rom, see if its unlocked on his...but to answer your question no its not something you can just delete and itll work....sorry...

On the Droid razr (vzw) I used a sql editor to open settings.db and there was an option called entitlement check, and I had to change that to 0 instead of 1.
No clue if anything like this would work on the m8,as I don't have mine yet.

Someone said adding tethering_dun_required=0 to settings.db would do it, but I tried it and it didn't work. I rebooted the phone and verified the new setting is in there as below, but trying to start the hotspot resulted in the same "call 611" bull**** as before:
% adb shell sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db 'select * from global where name = \"tether_dun_required\"'
106|tether_dun_required|0

I'm using KnoxRaid ROM which is based on the AT&T firmware. I haven't tried, but I'm willing to bet the international version roms don't have this problem.
edit: Just tried flashing ARHD, which is based on the international stock ROM, on my AT&T device and mobile hotspot works out of the box.
I can tell you the HTC One M8 for Windows (Verizon Wireless) variant despite being unlocked for GSM, it didn't matter whether I used Straight Talk (AT&T) or a T-Mobile branded SIM card; it did not work...that said, this being an Android thread before I purchase a HTC One M8 Android - either an AT&T variant or Developer Edition variant, I wanted to double check with y'all as to whether like my HTC One M7 64GB DE if I also had to root and custom flash for example with ARHD 43.0 to enable the mobile network share aka wi-fi hotspot on the device? It works to perfection on my M7 with ARHD 92.0. (And before some jackass gets on here and tells did I search for this; yes, I did). Thanks everybody; take care and have a wonderful day!
