Lelus Root Method questions... - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hi,
I'm new here to xda and I'm looking into rooting my T-Mobile L9 on running jb.
Before I try the lelus method I wanted to ask a few questions.
1. If I miss up during this process, will it brick my phone?
2. If everything goes good will my data still be there? (Apps, internal sd, external SD)
3. Will this work on Windows 8?
4. What is the worst that can happen if I screw up during this process?
Thanks in advanced
P.S. I was originally gonna post a reply in the thread but it said I didn't have permission

Problems/doubts related to rooting the phone

I was going through threads on rooting, ROMs, kernels and bricking. Before reading threads about bricking I wanted to root my phone but after reading I got scared of bricking my phone which I think is difficult to debrick (unbrick).
Is it really the case that we cannot debrick the phone at home? Is it ok to root with such a consequence?

All I can say is if you're that worried about it, don't root your phone or flash anything. Leave it on stock & enjoy it.
Is it possible to change ROM without rooting the phone?
And what are the chances of bricking the phone while rooting? And if bricked what is procedure to make it as earlier

use this to root your S2...It is 100% risk free. However use only if u are on ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Also, read everything before u flash a rom/kernel..95% of them get bricked without reading or consulting properly

I read it, but I didn't not find anything written as it won't brick the phone. So just wanted to confirm even if I made any mistake, it won't brick my phone, right?

if you don't wanna brick your phone, then don't screw up in following the instructions
Look at method 1 in the link from my signature
It will not brick your phone as I now include cwm4

The thing is u are just installing CWM and busybox that gives you root by that method mentioned. Believe me i was also afraid and i rooted using that method..took hardly 30s lol
And it wont wipe anything..
Just go ahead..u aint flashing any inseure kernel or any rom..so there is no chance of bricking..Go ahead

i was trying to root my SGS2 using this method but i never found file CWM.zip file in the "apply updates from external storage" options. i tried to moving it to sdcard (main folder), creating a folder in sdcard and by moving it to folder android under sdcard (which is visible in those options) but couldn't find CWM.zip file. i use volume up + home key + power button to go to recovery mode.
plz help me regarding that why i couldn't find that file
Done with rooting.

Cheers dude ill have a quick gander.. btw can i do this to install cm10??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
after doing so you'll able to install any rom* you'd like including CM10/CM10.1 and perform a full backup of your device.
keep in mind that it'll void your warranty.
*make sure that you install a rom for your device model here's a quick guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756332
you can check your version at settings>about phone.

[P760] CWM flasher

Hey guys, I thought I'd just share this here, since I havent seen anything like this around here.
It is a package containing a script to flash either the touch or non-touch version of CWM via adb commands.
I took the script from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477022&page=3
I just added our CWM file and changed the script accordingly. I take no credit for all this and all of it goes back to my bros over at my old P970 forum. They literally tought me everything I know about Android.
Touch CWM: http://d-h.st/9JY
non-Touch CWM http://d-h.st/nmR
Works great for me and does, what it needs to do. You need root & of course and unlocked bootloader for this to work.
It will automatically flash CWM to our recovery partition.
It also contains a script, that reboots your device to recovery. This will allow you to directly check, if it worked, or not. BUT CAUTION!!!!!
If the recovery has not been installed, it will simply make a factory reset!
If you have questions, go ahead. If not, have fun using it

Hey don't flash those (if you get the bootloader unlocked), they are NOT for the P769 or LGMS769. It will mess up the touch screen.

Actually, I plan on updating them to check the sha1sum before for flashing.
Do you happen to know, which phones the official recovery works for? I mean its only the boot.img, has nothing to do with bootloader or other stuff, but thanks for the hint!

I'm sorry but I don't understand your question, fully. I know only a couple of the official recoveries work. I believe 760 V20B works, but it's a pain to work with. I think ice 10g for 769 works.
Now about the boot.img ?
If you are trying to say that only the p760 boot.img causes problems (touch screen), you are mistaken. Anyways thanks for modifying those scripts

I see my friend, how will I know if it is the proper custom roon that I'm going to use? how I can prevent my phone of getting brick?
Just type "list of custom roms for **your phone model** " in google.
This list varies for each and every model, brand, motherboard specifications etc.
Be carefull. I hard bricked my phone once. Now its not even switching on. I have thrown it in dust-bin,it became useless

early this morning as i open my phone, i used to think that if i will transfer all files from my phone "system" in my 8g sd card it will be helpfull to lessen the burden of my processing ram that is 489mb available. I attemp to use root explorer to transfer the system files on my sd cards. i cut it in the root explorer option and paste it in my sd cards that is 8g. seconds passed it transfer files but as minute goes by it stock up and dont run anymore. i used to press the reboot system which is power botton + up volume and hold it in a couple of seconds. and then i stock in the system recovery and dont know what to do next. everytime i install some zip. files it is written that E: SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED INSTALLATION ABORTED. thats the whole story. hope someone will help me to fix this issue.thanks for your time reading my message.

No..it wont work like that buddy!

Sorry man! Your stock rom was collapsed.....i got the same situation(error signature) with my samsung galaxy tab. Then i came to know that it was soft bricked.
Then i kept my phone in download mode and flashed stock rom(available in official samsung site) through Odin software using my laptop. Then is worked like before
So now what you do is......
Open google..and search for "How to soft unbrick **your phone model** "
You may find something which is helpfull.

Firstly don't create multiple threads to elicit more responses. Maintain the forum etiquettes.
Secondly install xzu dual recovery by nut and then after flashing xzu dual recovery boot into ur desired recovery and flash super su zip
You chose to use Kingroot, which is somewhat controversial tool since it's closed source, and it is, or was, "allegedly" sending info to a server in China, but we don't know. Since it's closed source, we have no idea what it does to your device while it's rooting.
Rooting with an unlocked bootloader is really easy by fastbooting. It takes only a minute, and it's the native way of doing it. You chose to use this more dangerous method instead, even though I and others have mentioned the proper way of doing it several times.
The main reason I wanted root was to gain access to my sd card. I have that now. I could really care less about roms and Yodakernels and ftfsxyz flare files and exploding cpus terminals. Crazy time consuming stuff. Thanx tho. I got what I need

Alright, then all is good I recommend that you update to 5.1.1 when you get it though (or you can manually do it), since the memory leaks have been patched, and the system is much more stable.

Just use the installer if you aren't familiar with fastboot.
From NUT's thread:
1. Make sure you have USB debugging turned ON.
2. Download XZ/ZL/TabZ/Z1/ZU-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-BETA.installer.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com
Windows:
3. Unpack at C: or somewhere you will remember!
4. Navigate to the resulting directory and look for install.bat, double click it to run;
