[q] battery apps stoped updating - Nokia Lumia 920

About 4 days ago , I noticed that my BATTERY STATUS App no longer was updating in the standard 30 min time intervals .My Nokia 920 is on AT&T,. I have downloaded the following BATTERY STATUS APPS AND THE RESULTS ARE ALL THE SAME:
1 BATTERY INFO
2.BATTERY LEVEL FOR WP8
3 BATTERY WIDGET
4. BATTERY
5. BATTERY SENSE
And a few more
Has anyone else noticed or experienced the same thing? For each of the listed Apps , I checked my " Background" , " Lock Screen" and everything is running as it should.
I advise anyone who reads this to monitor your BATTERY STATUS App ( if you have one installed on your Nokia 920)

If you disable all data connections (WiFi, Cellular) the background agents stop working (even if no connection is reqiured). I believe this is a bug in the OS.

Thank you for taking the time to assist me. I believe you may be right . What is frustrating is that it was not always occurring. Now I am having issues with Office documents not uploading to SkyDrive. I was so in love with my Nokia . I still enjoy it . but these features are very important to my daily usage. I will search the Forum for some corrective postings .

[Q] Whatsapp battery drainage - TITAN

Hi Guys,
I have recently installed whatsapp on my HTC Titan, - its a great app, has drastically reduced my international call and text cost.
How ever the battery life of my phone is taking a huge hit. i am talking about 7 hours total from full charge - when i engage in continuous chatting on the app.
Is anyone experiencing any similar issues? - will be grateful if any one can help figure out the reason for the drain

Yes, this is because Whatsapp is continiously checking for new messages using your cellular connection. This means the modem is ALWAYS engaged, and you're practially always connected.
Some random website gave call time spec: Up to 6 h 50 min (3G)
This seems about right with your battery usage.
Being connected with 3g basically counts as talk time, Since the mic and speaker are the least of your worries battery consumtion wise.
Normal synchronisation like email is set at 30 minute (customizable) intervals.
This saves a lot of battery power.
Basically, this goes for any app that uses a continious internet connection (e.g. browser, ad supported app, online navigation, chat.)
Note that in some research a while ago someone tested battery usage in games, and it turns out that displaying ads uses more power than running the game itself (assuming the game is off-line).

Whatsapp is one of those apps that uses continious internet connection.
Also recieving email's "as they arrive" also drains power. So does facebook/messenger chat and any app that refreshes their data in the background frequently OR that is ad supported.
I'm using whatsapp, receiving messages during all the day and my battery stands with no problem until night, 16-18 hours. I think that the battery problem is more related with the time you are writing messages, with the screen, our huge screen, on.
I have had Whatsapp on since day 1 and never had any issues with battery and Whatsapp.
If you do continous chat for 6-7 hours I think your culprit is your screen brightness and CPU that keeps your phone locking and unlocking! I get occassional messages on Whatsapp throughout the day and I manage to reply them whenever I have some spare time. Same with emails.
You can even try anything that will keep your phone "awake" in foreground i.e. keep communicating via emails or e-books with screen on and data on - you will have battery drain.
But same activity on intermittent basis will not cause this drain.
Also, your network coverage - the farther you are from the network masts, the quicker you will drain your phone. Sadly we can't do much about it unless you live in a super-connected area.
@jpmalum: are you using push notifications?
@kpn: actually, WP7 has a completely different background processing policy compared to Android. Incoming notifications flow through MS's push notification service which greatly reduces network access. Periodic polling by apps is restricted to intervals of 15 minutes minimum, and device wakeups for different apps are coalesced to avoid each of them generating its own 3G tail like on Android.
Also, KPN should really fix their network settings, tail times on the KPN network are ridiculous, the modem stays in FACH for up to a full minute! I am aware that this is probably better for browsing but come on, a _minute_, really?
I have some power traces from a Galaxy Nexus with a background process doing some network stuff once per 5 minutes. On KPN, the app uses 277.59J/hour, versus 182.05J/hour and 205.47J/hour on TMobile and Vodafone respectively. The difference is not due to signal strength, but comes purely from tail time. Hopefully fast dormancy and the new enhanced FACH state will fix this in the future, but they require carrier support to work.

I just wanted to post on the XDA forums that there is a thread to help determine what is causing the "heat + battery drain" issue(s) on the Lumia 920.

Specifically, we've seen fairly normal battery drain when using applications, but when LTE data is introduced the battery continues to drain at a rate of 7-8% per hour even after the applications are closed. For example, streaming something like Xbox Music or Netflix over the LTE connection (wifi OFF), the phone warms up considerably and the battery continues to drain at a high rate even after those applications are closed. The same applications behave normally over 3G or Wifi, and the battery drain is not present afterward.
The "fix" so far appears to be disabling LTE altogether.
• Open Dialer
• Punch in ##3282 and hit Call
• At the Field Test menu, choose more options via the three dots (lower right)
• Select Settings
• Under network type, select "3G only". UMTS should be set to "Automatic".
• Change the "Toggle ENS" setting to OFF
• Back out, power off the phone, and power on again
Definitely interested in hearing other's reports on this issue. Specifically, does this happen with ALL Lumia 920 phones? Is this specific to this particular model phone? Is this a Nokia issue, LTE chip issue, or WP8 issue? Was this introduced with the Portico update?

Upon further testing.........
Disabling LTE is *not* the ultimate fix. Yes, it does help keep the battery drain down to more reasonable levels, but it does not solve the problem. I've subsequently tested with the little brother phone -- the Lumia 820 -- to see if the issue is on all WP8 handsets, on all Lumia phones, or even limited to post-Portico update phones (in other words, did Portico make this issue).
After some thorough testing, I can say with confidence that this issue is specific to the Lumia 920 and not necessarily all WP8 handsets or Lumia phones.

I found that disabling bluetooth helps out.
Battery drain
To help reduce battery drain I do the following on my WP
I get a connectivity shortcut app. There are a few options available in the store. Anyway I pin airplane mode, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location on my home screen and turn them off when I'm not using them. Turning off location turns of GPS, so you must enable it before launching Drive/Here. A lot of battery issues I think have to do with the phone being to aggressive (power wise) trying to search for signal. Whether its Wi-Fi a Bluetooth device, etc. I also disable Tap+Send (NFC) because I never use it.
And I go into background tasks and I block every single app from running in the background except the ones I am sure I want to run. Remeber the list where you can block them is for apps that want to run on a timed schedule, they can still run in the BG if you home screen out of them. For me the only one I allow is MS Weather (for the live tile). Disabling Nokia Drive/Here seems to help battery life for some people.
The biggest battery saver I did was forwarding my other email accounts (Gmail & Yahoo!) to Outlook.com, and then set that to only look every 1 hour (instead of the stock 30 minutes). My phone went from lasting 1 - 1.5 days to over 2.5 - 3 days with my typical usage (light usage).
I try not to use Live Tiles, or lock screen pictures unless I really want them (like weather for instance), as they help drain the battery quicker.
Anyway Nokia is really on top of their game so I think they will help contribute to WP to eliminate these issues. The only non-software related issue with the 920 is the dust in the FFC, which personally does not bother me but I could see how it might bother others.
##3282 isn't working for me after yesterday's update. Lets see how I do with the battery today!!!
The earpiece on mine does not work I can't hear anyone and top of phone gets warm I have sent it to nokia repair.

I also have 5-8% per hour drain. (actual offi. release .1308...)
all off, sync, loaction, WLAN every thing, fresh reboot, phone on my desk, not working with it, about 2 lines H signal.
when i switch to airplane mode....1-2% battery drain over a complete night!
its also no problem to activate airplane mode ON and afterwards WLAN additionally ON, then about 1-4% over a night!
i tried everything i found on the inet.
and i have my white L920 since Dec.12! (i did a "hard" update over PC in Feb. and also the the last release over the air...nothing changed)
so now i'm checking if this works for me and post results
I'm located in AUT with an unlocked, unbranded GER L920.
and we dont have LTE til now...maybee thats the problem..?!

UPDATE:
i solved my battery drain issue by setting my "max network speed" to 2G!
by that i now have a drain of 1-2% p.h.!

So then how do you set your network speed?
u don't need access to ##3282...its also possible to "limit" within settings/network. (##3282 NOT working within f.e. Rapdialer!!)
I limit it to "2G" only when its more importand to have less battery consumption than inet speed
limited to "2G" in my region it shows me afterwards a "E" on top.
On this PIC i found in the inet is "roaming" deactivated.
I have to activate "roaming" also when I'm within my own network to have inet access (and the "E").
In my town, network operators share their mobile radio transmitters.
I limited direktly at my provider the access to a "real roaming network" for example a swiss network.
Because i'm most of the time near the border
maybee not possible in your version or provider?
I'm on a free GER version.

My experience is that, I reset the cellphone and after doing this twice and connecting to the internet and waiting for one hour, Microsoft gave me an update for my battery saver and since that time everything is ok, including the battery. I always believed that the updates have problems to be installed completely most of the time, so it's better to reset or download it via the computer and instal it with a cable( using Nokia Software Update). But if it doesn't work, please don't panic. The updates are coming and just be sure that you have reset your device without choosing the setting backup, for you must start afresh. Good Luck.

My Samsung S3 battery goes from fully charged to "low battery" often before I get home from work. I just put up with it because troubleshooting Android is such a pain even with Better Battery Stats.
But by exceeding my data quota this month I see exactly what the problem is. Android 4.3 disabled data last night because I went over my quota.
It is now 6:02PM and my battery is at 82% when it would usually be at 5% by now. I still used my phone almost exactly the same amount as I have a desktop at work. My battery usually goes down to 5% just doing nothing in my pocket and making a few calls and texts and some music listening.
My poor battery life is due to all the data transfer bull Google is doing in the background every day.
Better battery stats can identify the process like Bam_dmux or fast dormancy, but it doesn't tell you which apps are actually calling the wakelock.
If Android did keep proper track of this I am sure many apps would be deleted (including Google Apps) from phone in a instant.
But it is too much trouble to try to figure out which one it is so we just put up with 6 hour standby battery life when the manufacturer claims 72 hours.
What a mess ..... I am going to have to research "restrict background data" now to waste more of my time.
Looking at Data Usage in setting doesn't help much because it only tells how much not how often
HaHaHaHa: Google Search on = android "restrict background data" gives 192,000 hits
Does anyone know a good site or method to do this?
Fixed Battery Issue
Well I managed to solve my battery problems at least until the next round of updates.
Previously ..... Galaxy S3 goes from full battery to empty by about 4:00PM in the workday ... mostly phone is sitting in my pocket. No surfing, occasional call.
Then I blocked background data for:
1) Play Store (I am tired of useless updates anyway)
2) Medscape
3) MPR
4) EMAIL ( confirmed this does not affect Gmail notifications )
Then Removed Accounts:
1) All associated with Samsung
2) WeChat and program
So only Accounts for Dropbox, Google, Scribd and Whatsup are left
Nothing else changed
It's 10:00PM and I still have 60% battery ..... sometimes getting pissed helps as I have been putting up with this for a month.
Unfortunately I don't know which were the offenders.

Day5
Since I made these changes my battery life has been greater than 60% every single night no matter how much I use the phone. Maybe it was WeChat.....
Play Store Issues from the OP
My battery life bliss was cut short by issues with my gmail account and sync probably caused my "restrict background data" on the play store.
Previously restricting background data on Play Store and WeChat improved my battery life from 100%-0 in 8 hours to 100% to 90% in 8 hours
BUT
This seems to cause issues with gmail and Google sync. Neither would work and I had to uninstall and clear data for both to get them working again. It said the sync was "experiencing difficulties".
Uninstalling and reinstalling gmail and play seems to have fixed my battery issues .... even without background data restrictions.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Battery Drain Loe Usage

I just got this phone about a week ago and right away I noticed that battery life was very low. I tried doing some charge cycles and I even got a brand new Anker battery but nothing changed. I looked at the battery usage and the graph is just steadily dropping with very minimal screen usage. I have turned off background syncing on everything and I disabled notifications on most of my apps (all but Facebook and Instagram) and still the battery goes dead in under one day of standby. Looking at battery usage I noticed that Android OS,Android system, and Google play services are pretty high on the percentage (I do have auto updates disabled though). I know the battery shouldn't be dropping from one day of standby. I've also checked some other posts where people say to turn off auto brightness and notifications and I've tried all of that to no avail. Also on the battery graph the scene time is of most of the time, but the puzzling part is that the awake time is only dotted a few times, no large bars that might be huge background processes. And speaking of background processes, most of my running apps say they've been on since the time my phone had turned on (not sure why). Please help me out on how I can fix this, I can post screen shots if needed
Wipe it and flash latest firmware with Odin, disable all the bloat.

It did not work Could this be a faulty device? Here is a screenshot of one hour of usage after factory reseting. As you can see on the running apps (my phone was on for about 8 mins in the picture) there are a few processes that stay running from startup and never stop.
p.s. I also went disabled all running apps that were possible and that didn't look important (clock widgets, SNS, Stock Daemon, etc.)

i just used and loaded my nord 2 full and tried around a bit
I have deactivated nearly everything in background and used all google results to get better with battery life.
still I have the feeling it / something drains the battery quite quick or quicker than my old samsung or my samsung lite work smartphone
I had 100% yesterday evening, now 87%, havent touch it and only tried around a few seconds today with all settings and cam and stuff
so 23% in 12h nearly without touching it
google syncro is off as well as inactivity display, news and stuff
what else can I do?

This is Grosso-Modo what I've done . Use "optimizer" adb fastboot tool . My battery last for at least 2 days , moderate use and I always charge it when drop down to 35....40 % .

I'm not a multinational corporation leader to have hundred of conversations daily , in my region there isn't yet a real 5G network , location is no needed , bluetooth the same , NFC only when I pay something ...
I'm a moderated user , no Facebook , only WhatsApp , internet browser and GPS sometimes and of course some data traffic when I needed . My network operator gave me 50 GB monthly . The most important goal is protecting and save some battery and my phone for at least 2 years when I might to renew it .
