Htc One battery replacement - AT&T HTC One (M7)

So what happens in a year when the ones battery needs replacing? It got the lowest score ever on ifxit so replacing the battery seems impossible. Has anyone else considered this as a major drawback of the phone. I imagine it will greatly effect resale value as well considering no one is going to be interested in buying a used one with hundreds of cycles already on the battery or a battery that wont hold a charge.
I'm sure you can ship it to htc for replacement for a hefty fee but doing it urself isn't going to happen it seems.
major flaw in my opinion.

No different than my iPhone. Instead of Apple dealing with it I will have HTC deal with it.

By then they will have a new phone out that they'll entice us with.

My HTC Inspire has a 27 month old battery that still lasts like it did when I got it new. Not worried about replacing the battery in a year or even 2 years.

I know it's probably not a big help to the OP, but I'd suggest that would be a reason for purchasing some sort of extended warranty on the phone. When I got mine at Costco earlier this month, I paid $99 for a 2 year SquareTrade warranty that supposedly covers everything (including drops and spills).
I'm normally not one for purchasing these types of warranties unless it's on big ticket items (and even then it's a crap shoot for me), but I figured that $99 upfront and a $25 fee if (when?) a replacement is needed within 2 years is reasonable - especially considering the purchase price of the phone when I got it ($129).
Short of doing that, I'll guess that HTC will have some sort of battery replacement service available for the One when it's needed - which hopefully won't be for a long time.

I can count on maybe two fingers the number of iPhone owners I know who have had to have a battery replaced. I'm not worried at all about this issue. I think perhaps people here are just getting adjusted to non-user-replaceable batteries.

Don't think you'll need to replace the battery within a year. More like 2-3 years. By then you could upgrade or have HTC replace the battery.

I got my iPhone 3GS in November of 09 and sold it 2 years later to a guy I work with that is still using it today ...thats a 3.5 year old battery that still works fine. If you take care of it, it will last a very long time.

That was worse case scenario. Buddy of mine went from the original iPhone to the 4S and his battery was still doing fine.

one battery can use alomost 2-3 years. and we always change a new phone before the battery is dying.

The iphone battery is a hell of a lot easier to replace yourself though. Same goes for Nexus 4, One X and One S etc.

From what I'v heard/seen there is a 2 year guarantee from HTC on smartphones with built-in battery, so just let it be replaced withing that timespan. If you need details, just ask htc directly.

I'm with you, HTC is one of the better manufacturers out there

I actually don't have the HTC One. I've got a Note 2 instead with a HTC One S as a backup/going out parting phone
Truth be told though I do kinda wish I got this phone instead. I love the Sense UI and have had 6 HTC phones in a row prior to the Note 2.
Unfortunately the battery being sooooo sooo difficult to replace yourself did worry me in the end, but if I could turn back time...

I have a one s I bought used and the battery is perfect still. Previously I had one phone that needed a battery replacement, desire hd I bought used. Seller didn't tell me it was shot but it was. Probably 2.4 years old.
Other than that I've had a 3 year old nexus one with original battery still within about 15% of new capacity and a 2 year old desire that was the same. My friend's desire is going on 3 and its fine with original battery too. So my experience with HTC battery longevity is pretty good.

If the battery fails in 1-2 years, call an HTC rep, you'll be surprised at how capable they actually are. You can easily talk one of them into sending you a refurbished device. They will have some extras laying around. I promise you.

[Q] Is the amaze 4G a good phone to get?

Hi
Well I was wondering since I'm about ready for my Tmobile phone upgrade, I wanted to know if the amaze 4G is a good phone to have. I'm currently using the HTC Wildfire S and I want to get it out of my sight. Please comment if this is a good idea to get this phone before I upgrade. Thanks
Since you're so close to your upgrade you might want to wait for the One S.
If you can handle not being able to have a spare battery and SD card. You do get a s4 processor which should get better battery life and perform better also.

Yes but it's gonna be too expensive from the look of it. Also since the one s is going out, there is a good chance of the amaze prices to drop dramatically.
Well I just bought an amaze today, have to wait for it to come. Im not on post-paid and I don't feel like dropping $700 on a phone for he One S.
I probably would've waited if I had a contract. The Amaze is great so I hear.. will know in a few days.
I think its really down to your personal preference, an little older CPU with a SD card and spare batteries. Or a new CPU with no spare battery and 16gb locked.
I was tempted to wait, but ended with the Amaze.

Thanks for your opinion. Looks like I'm getting an amaze
I just brought my third amaze yesterday. Now my wife, daughter and I have one. Looked at a couple other options and weighing the pros and cons, the amaze came out on top, again
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA Premium App
Amaze Hands down! i was considering Galaxy SII X but Amaze has better resolution, beter cameras (Front and back) even though its heavier imo it has a 'nicer' design. The cons are as follows:
-Weight
-Lack of Rom Development (We havent achieved S-OFF, and WIFI Drivers are a problem so i read)
-Screen Bleed at the capacitive buttons at the problem ... not a big deal its just at the bottom it will look brighter.)
-battery might suck on stock. For me im running stock and i get full 24 hour usage (phone calls, texting, tweeting, facebooking, browsing, music)
Pros: everything else

Thanks and im getting this phone
So how much did each of you pay when you first got it from tmobile?
i bought mine out right bnib for 380$
bought mine from a guy on xda for $360 with box in new condition. only thing messed up is the vibration (it rattles). that's it though
I don't regret buying it at all, I like the heft to it. it makes it feel expensive. the only other phone I wish I would have waited for is the xperia s which isn't much of a upgrade. considering it has the same processor and same amount of RAM, only huge plus is that its playstation certified and the design.
Mine was 350 with contract but if I would've waited one more week it would've Ben free but I don't care. I love my phone

S-off is still down the road but I'm sure it will be obtained, once that happens and we have cm 9 running I'll bet people will be more interested in this device.
And I got mine for about 350 after the rebate and discount.

depating on purchasing a Rezound

I'm thinking of purchasing a Rezound on Ebay, I currently have a droid Inc2. However, I would like to get the Rezound because its 4g and s-off. I can get one for like $250 or so and my upgrade isn't up for another year. Opinions would be much appreciated.

You'll need some patience. Its the best device ive owned....and I owned a galaxy nexus...but I do hate the battery. Only downfall.

$250 is not a bad price, and the screen on the Rezound is killer. Be prepared to go through batteries like it's nobody's business though. I keep 2 spares in my pocket, and I don't consider myself a power user.

I'm curious on those people who have s-off and custom kernals. Any news on better battery life, I'm just debated because LTE is known for sucking the life out of a battery.
Currently, I get almost 2 days with limited use.
I just bought one for $330 (beats, box, extended battery, otterbox and few extra batteries). And I've got a galaxy nexus. The Gnex has a bad camera in low light or indoors. I'm really looking for the day the package arrives.

I hated my Nexus. Horrible camera, lousy speaker. Beats ear buds couldn't save that phone. Lol. Dropped calls, and soooo many accidental screen shots. And I couldn't get used to a power button on the side and the volume rockers in the middle.
With that said...totally sexy phone. Screen was nice and so customizable. Lots of dev support. The Rezound is the perfect size and as long as you have those batteries you'll be fine.

I'm getting 7 hours average. Light use days are 10 hours....heavy use is 5 hours.
S-off doesn't really do anything special for the phone..just allows stuff to be flashed that wasn't supported with HTC dev unlock..like radios and kernels via recovery.

honestly on this phone I don't notice much of a difference on 3g vs 4g for battery life. I don't know why that is, maybe it has something to do with the size of the antennae running through the back cover.
Totally worth it. Extended battery is a must though if you want to use 4g for more than 5 minutes. With extended battery, you can go all day with Pandora on 4g and still have a good 30% or so left.

Refurbished phones

My screen cracked and I had to make an insurance claim...I'm getting a refurbishes replacement...anyone have any bad experience with them?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
With this phone specifically? Yes. I returned my first one because it had a dead pixel, and the one they gave me had a broken USB port. It thinks its on a USB charger when it's on a wall charger, therefore making my phone charge slow. I also can't connect it to a computer I'm actually still using it too, I figured that I'd return it when something happens to it
The ducks symbolize death!
Through the 7 refurb captivates I had, and the two refurb I777's so far, all of them have looked and function brand new if not better.

I have a refurb i777 I got a while back. As far as I can tell, it's been perfect. I would actually almost rather have a refurb as a replacement than a new phone...the refurb units are put through much more rigorous testing before they're sold than the new units are.

Same here. No issues. Love this phone!
I tried to upgrade with a refurb I777. It was DOA when I received it. Wouldn't power on. I called ATT and told them about it and they sent another. It was also DOA and wouldn't power on. Sent them back and went to Sam's Club and bought a new one for $50. I've had other refurb phones and they were all fine. My wife's Cappy is a refurb and it's been flawless. I think for the most part they do pretty well but you may run into a few bad ones now and then.
Yeah once in awhile you'll hear problem reports but for the most part refurbs are just fine. My Blackberry Curve refurb I got like 4 years ago died a week after I got it. But ATT sent me another, only took 2 days to get it, and the replacement is actually still in excellent condition. Same happened to my fiances but second time was a charm for her too.

Questions on phone exchange t Mobile

So I just got off the phone with the retention department and and they would not offer me a different phone even though I am now returning for the fifth time a defective amaze 4 G.
I know hasoon works there and I think I heard him mentioned something about haggling with retention department and then finally getting a new phone to replace the defective phone that was re sent over and over and over.
Any help would be great please

I've never worked for T-Mobile but have had a lot of returns. The last one was returning my 3rd mytouch4g in a year, and even though they told me their policy is a different phone if you have 3 exchanges within a month, I kept telling them I wasn't happy so they exchanged my phone and also gave me a new amaze. So I ended up with a replacement, and a new phone (this was two months after the amaze came out) even though my upgrade wasn't for another year.
Basically I was in shock how well they treated me, but this was also after talking to a rep who was rude and not helpful, and then a different rep hooked me up and apologized for the other one. Maybe I've been lucky or they like me cuz I've been with them 13 years, but they always treat me right even if it sometimes takes awhile.
My favorite is telling them I'm not happy, and being so nice and ignorant that they get on my side, haha.

Yeah it is sad to see, but Samsung is a monster when it comes to marketing budgets they had a slim chance to compete. I hope they pull through and continue pushing samsung and other Android devices to their limits. I have high hopes for this company
I also worry that articles like this will only hurt... people who are on the fence will read that and go with Samsung...

Agreed. I've always had good experiences with call and signal quality with Nokia, from the 6820 and other TDMA phones back in the late 90s and early 00s to the Symbian-based stuff from a while back. If they put some quality Android-based phones together and offered them with a decent custom interface (like Sense) and unlocked, I think they'd make a pretty strong showing.

Ha, I have its big brother the Nokia 6800. That's not a typo, I still have it right here on my desk
I couldn't help but thinking that I have this power to kill phone manufacturers.
My first cell phone back in the mid 90s was the Siemens S3+ and then briefly the S4 (I bet not a lot of people here even know that Siemens used to make cell phones).
After that, I had a couple of Ericsson phones, the GH 337 and the GF 788 (you know how that story ends, they were swallowed by Sony, and then dumped).
Right after that, I became a huge Nokia + Symbian fanboy, the 6800, 6620, N80, E51, E63, E75 (and look at what happened to Nokia and Symbian).
Then three years ago I bought a Dell Streak (the first android phone with 5" screen that nobody really knows about. the following year, Dell stopped making phones).
Finally last week I got myself an HTC One. Look out HTC!!

I mostly agree with your statement, but I believe it will take more than one flagship to get them turned around and charging towards the front. Maybe after 1 or 2 more flagship they will really be doing well. I just can't see one phone having enough time to turn an entire company around. Especially after they bombed out hard with the HTC First. That was a huge mistake for them to try and even sell that phone.
