It happens to me also. Ive tried turning gps off, closing all apps and services but it is still there. This doesnt happens with custom roms, it only happens with the stock rom. But when go to battery in settings it shows me that gps is off, but i cant get rid of that notification.

try to go to apps that need GPS location (eg facebook or maps)
i happens got to that situation and then i go to facebook apps and GPS star to blink and then i just press home and the GPS sign is gone

Ive solved this, force stop facebook wont work, the only way to avoid this issue is uninstalling facebook app, and problem solved!!

[Q] Lost sync, GPS issues

It seems my phone is no longer syncing normally as expected. GMail doesn't seem to be pushing email and the built-in EMail app isn't notifying me either. Other random apps aren't syncing properly, either. It happens over both 3G & Wi-Fi. Sometimes restarting will fix for a moment as everything gets synced and notifications pop up for G/EMail. Twitter is about the only app that seems to be working properly.
Also GPS constantly stops working. A restart usually will re-enable it but it keeps failing. Opening Maps or other GPS-enabled apps does not get fix (GPS icon never appears). Even the GPS On/Off toggle does nothing most of the time.
I'm running Eclipse 1.3 on a 2.3.4 kernel with the beautiful ICS theme (Email app NOT themed). No settings were ever changed and checked to be set properly. I've even tried wiping Cache/Davik without success. I want to see if there is anything I can do before trying to Wiping/SBF back to 2.3.4 stock and reflashing.

[Q] GPS Icon in the Notification Area even when it is off

Hey guys, I don;t really use GPS on my Galaxy Player 4'', but I have notices that it will all the sudden display the GPS icon in the notification area even when it is off. I have disabled GPS and the "Use wireless networks" option, but the icon will appear at least once a day and won't disappear until I reboot the device. It just keeps blinking over and over until I reboot the device.
I have noticed it drains my battery way to quick when that icon appears (uses about 10% when the deviced is locked), which is crazy because it uses about (2%) battery power when it is locked during the night and the player does not shows that GPS icon in the notification area. I have killed pretty much every single application I have been able to kill to find out what app is trying to use GPS, but the icon won't go away no matter what process I kill. I use juicedefender and it has really improve my battery life, but when that icon appears, my device still will waste about 10% battery power even when it is locked with no apps running. Cannot explained why this is happening.
Has any of you had this problem?
Thank you
Try reseting to factory default, my batttery life on galaxy 4.0 is incredible.
I've had the same problem on my 5.0. I figured out it was an app that was constantly trying to get a gps signal. Simply going into the app and the exiting out seems to solve it however. It still happens but going into the app and exiting out helps. I would try to figure out which app is constantly trying to connect and if you don't use it very frequently uninstall it.

Difficult to pinpoint this app.
Do anybody know any way to log what app is using (or trying to use) GPS?
I noticed this happening today. I have my notification bar hidden, so not sure how often this happens. I could make it go away by turning on GPS and GPS Test, then back off. I checked for apps that might be trying to find a location in running services, killed a couple "maybes", but the icon kept blinking. Only app I installed today was Simple Calendar Widget, but didn't see anything in it's options that would be pinging location...
I have Power Tudor that shows how much juice apps are using while you monitor them, the only app there that looked like it could be was something like "system_1025" or something like that.... nothing I could find to stop it.

Also use Simple Calendar Widget, but I don't think it's the reason.
Did you use Samsung Dive recently? I did, in order to test the ring, lock and location service provided from within Dive. The service running on device tries to establish a GPS connection even if GPS is disabled. I didn't make a location trace, only a simple location test.
After reboot GPS icon do not show up any more ...
Looks like Google Latitude might be the culprit. Try opening it and signing out of that service. Also go into "Settings" --> "Location and security" and uncheck "Use Sensor Aiding". Once I turned those off the GPS Notification went away.
What does sensor aiding do anyway? Sure doesn't help the Compass!
I had the same issue with my HTC ONE M8 I did the same process as you. Went into my settings found my battery usage and saw what was draining my battery. It was groupon. So I force stopped the app and the GPS notification went away.

No push notifications in sleep mode

Hi everybody.
I just bought a Samsung S3 but I have a problem..
Every time I put my phone in standby, after 5-10 minutes the phone stops getting push notifications (fb, whatsup). I need to turn it on and after that everything's fine..
I tried do update to android revolution hd 17.1 but I still get this problem..
I've already tried to set Wi-Fi to always off, checked all notification setting but to no avail..
Is there a way to receive internet messages without turning on the phone every 5 minutes?

Their is a refresh setting of almost every internet app, try to change those. And check whether Do Not Disturb option in the notification panel is not on.
Hit Thanks if this helped.
Disable smart alert in 'motion' and that should fix it
Especially if you have a broken/malfunctioning proximity sensor

Sorry but I can't find any refresh setting in phone settings or whatsapp options. Can you please tell me where can I find them?
Have you downloaded any deep sleep apps or Juice Defender/any other battery management app?

No I didn't.
I even did a hard reset 2 days ago. The only apps I have right now are whatapp and fb messanger
I just tried to uncheck "smart alert" but the problem persists.
Okay wait, when you say 'standby mode', you just mean you're locking it, right?
Assuming that the answer to my previous question is 'yes', tell me, when you turn your screen back on do you get a little notification on the bottom of the screen that says "You are now connected to (whatever your WiFi is called)" ?
He still doesn't receive texts I believe so this is not having the WiFi set to turn off at lock

My issue only occurs when in 3G. It seem the phone disconnects from 3g line when in deep sleep.
I've already tried to use different sims of different operators getting the same behaviour
If I connect my s3 to a wifi spot it always gets notifications instantly

Annoying sprint app.

Anyone else annoyed by this constant message when your GPS is turned off? Could it be turned off in settings/apps by unchecking the show notification box for the data optimizer app?
If this happens alot to anyone that doesnt wanna turn on there gps because they wanna save battery what i said to do in the op will work

Trouble with notifications

Having trouble when phone has been in sleep for half hour or more. Notifications coming through wifi are not working. I've being trying to solve it since yesterday but I'm not having any luck.
I've made sure the apps in question are on auto start in permissions, turned off ultra long standby mode in battery power management settings and set the apps to be exempt from cleaning in app protection settings and even turned off 'align wakeup' in power management, and of course wifi is set always on.
Phone is x820 model running fresh china 17S rom, to which i manually installed google play, gmail, bbm apps.. bbm and gmail are the apps in question are the ones not getting notifications, even though phone can receive an sms messages no problem, weirdly even receiving an sms doesnt spring the other notifications to work, also when turning the screen back on notifications still don't come for up to ten minutes even though wifi is working fine.
Any help would be really apreciated, thanks
Hi,
I'm in the same situation as you.
Also my calendar doesn't want to sync. I've flashed phonesky.apk for google apps but it doesn't contains google agenda sync adapter.. so no agenda sync
I've some app which is always run but seems to be cut by the system
Also have a lot of start up app (reboot) but nothing start huhu
17s china
Yeah it's pretty odd. Maybe the trying the Indian rom is the solution.
Generally the settings for notifications should be done in this way:
1. Check that notifications for the desired apps are ON under the menu Settings - Notification Management
2. Allow the apps to start automatically under the menu Settings - Permissions - You have allowed ... apps to auto launch
3. Disable the auto cleaning of the apps under Phone manager - Power Saving Management - App protection
I have Lock-Screen cleanup unchecked, Ultra-Long standby during sleep checked, Align wakeup checked, Clock night-alignment mode checked.
In this way I have no problems with notifications with whatsapp, viber, e-mail (I'm using yahoo mail with the stock email app), fb messenger, Facebook.
If the above are done and stil there are no notifications, then check in the app itself. The last but not least, reflash the firmware.

It's seems when my screen is off, the data is also off because i've shown 0.00kb/s when there is a connection to internet (wifi or data)
but when i turn it on, 1 sec later it show 0.00kb/s so when screen is off, no data ??

If your data will work all the time, then the battery will be drained fast. The phone connects from time to time to the Internet and then you'll get the necessary notifications. I cannot tell you how often is this, but you can decrease the time by deselecting Align Wakeup in Power Saving Management.
I am not sure that the way described above is correct, so if someone knows differently, please state.
edit.. thought i found a workaround, but I jumped the gun. Still trying to work this out.
I'm giving up, thinking about sending phone back under the reason of not fit for purpose
Maybe we need to try cuoco rom.
I've installed gapps by myself so maybe they is a bug with it
I've been testing WhatsApp all night, checking every hour if a message will get through and so far it has.... but i bet as soon as i post this it will stop working, that's the luck i seem to have lol
oddly on 19S rom WhatsApp is automatically set up to lock itself in memory, with the lock sign in recents screen, and autostart enabled in permissions
edit, put the phone in airplane mode while i slept, turned airplane mode off and now whatsapp won't get notifications even with the screen on unless i open WhatsAppl
I'm sure it shouldn't be this hard
