Factory reset your phone
This happened to me when I accidentally restored a system app using Titanium Backup. You have no other choice than to factory reset and reinstall IJ. My tips is, careful on restoring apps, especially like DropBox where it is a system app in stock but a user app in other ROM.
And please, don't start a new thread just for a simple question. There's a Question and Answer thread in the Stickies.

It's useful for me, just remember don't recovery your data via CWM.
Or you can do these step before you boot your phone everytime:
1.boot in CWM
2.select "mount and storages"
3.select "mount /data"
4.back to main menu,select "reboot"
It's also useful for me, but it's tiring and....If your phone stuck and reboot automatically, it may random force again.
Sorry for my poor English.
Using my own experience, I can tell that those force closes are getting from read-only /data partition, which is caused by errors in filesystem. Those errors are "created" by buggy formatting procedure in CWM and probably in stock recovery. So use mke2fs (for example from busybox) to format, and remember not to format/restore/backup via CWM. Restore/Backup DATA using those scripts:

Hello,
I am new here so I apologize if this has been sked before.
I had cm9 stable version installed on my phone, and it was working fine. On Thursday, I changed my lock pattern as it had no lock on, but I forgot the pattern I put in (I tend to make it complicated) and entered it wrong many times that it asked for my google account and password, but when it got to that point, it started rebooting and it got stuck on the cm robot, and whenever it gets to the google account thing, it goes back to the robot and so on. Then I flashed a stock ICS rom using Odin hoping it would fix the issue, but it got stuck on the glowing s screen. The phone isn't rooted anymore. I tried wiping cache partition but that didn't work. My biggest problem is that I didn't back my phone up and I have important files that I need. Is there a way to fix this issue?
I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

If you have CWM installed, you can mount the sdcard in the Mounts and Storage menu, but I don't remember if that sdcard was for internel or external.
Did you try wiping Dalvik cache in Advanced menu (Also CWM)? If you do, wait 5-10min for it to boot up.
Flash Siyah kernel, boot into recovery then mount USB and backup your files.
Then just simply wipe/install the rom zip of your choice.

boot to stock recovery and perform factory data reset.
You will lose, sms, installed apps etc but all data stored on your internal and external SD will be safe

Thank you! I will try that now and let you know if it works.
Ok so heres the info burb:-
My phone is UK SGS3 i9300 Vodafone, I rooted it a little while ago, tried a sammy variant custom rom (JB), then changed to paranoid android (cm10). I then tried injecting the sammy firmware files to try and get s memo work - it didnt work anyway, and i lost some data (had backups), so I updated the ROM (without data wipe) but things weren't right, so I was going to do a factory reset, but decided to change to a sammy rom again. aaaaand now it goes really wrong :/
I tried Psycho ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947072) I did a factory reset, and then installed it. the boot logo changed but it just began to bootloop. no adb logcat... o and i had the touch CM recovery with extsd support. I tried again, but also wiped dalvik, cache factory reset, this time i noticed that when i did the factory reset, it rebooted recovery. flashed it again to no avail. so i found UltimaROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911572) it had the aroma installer which i liked. I used a laptop to transfer the files onto my extsdcard. factory wipe (rebooted), wiped dalvik n cache, and went thu the installer fine, but still hung on the bootanimation. and to my surprise it was still the one from psycho rom. I wiped again and tried to install again but same problem. EDIT: I just remembered that it came up with a modem choice... I wasnt sure which to pick...
so I did some research tried to find out what was wrong... Following a few suggestions, I downloaded the I9300BUBLG3 (search on sammobile says thats uk vod - 4.04) from sammobile.com and flashed it via odin. I did skip triangle away, because I was just going to put a custom rom back on it. I'm more concerned about data wipe causing a reboot recovery... I also flashed cf-root again over the top to get recovery again. It STILL hangs on the samsung logo! I have even used the recovery after cf root flash, it still reboots when you select factory reset -_- I can get into recovery, and download mode - so that something right? why is it rebooting when i wipe data? did i flash the wrong stock firmware? Whats the next step? what haven't i tried? PLEASE tell me its not fully bricked?
Thanks in advance
/data GONE?!?!
UPDATE: I've just tried wiping again, and viewed the recovery log, it said it couldnt find /data/... it looked on the sdext as well i think same with other wipes... it cannot find source :'( HELP! I've got to go out for now (without my phone :'( ) - so i hope to return to some advice...
When you go to advanced mode you can mount all parts? Try to set permission only to test.
You can format each part at advanced?
ok so the mount / unmount feature appears to work (or so it says), but when i go to fix permissions, and check log - sh:fix_permissions: not found
when I format system n cache n preload it works as far as i can tell via logs, when i did /sdcard/ it said it couldn't remove "." and ".." I guess that just mean it was already blank (which i had done b4 messing all these roms)
it also just occurred to me to try adb shell in recovery! ha and it works! I can see the sdcard0 and sdcard1 can even access /data!
ok heres what I've got in /data/...
/data/app/*.apk - - - - LOTS OF APKS (i guess wipe didnt work)
/data/data/ -- - - the data for my apps
/data/dalvik - - empty
/sbin/fix_permissions - - is there!
there are obv all the other folders like app-private, media, user, system, gps etc etc
SO why cant my recovery perform a data wipe without rebooting(and failing)?? Ooooorrr what do I have to remove via adb to flash a rom?
--------UPDATE-------
right heres how ive SORT OF fixed it.
I used adb shell with su to wipe data (didnt work without su) then formatted system, cache dalvik etc etc all with adb. I rebooted recovery and flashed UltimaROM. It works and it HAS booted - this is how my phone was left today.
I do have several strange problems tho. I know my cable is a little odd - it doesnt always connect right (maybe thats how i caused the problem - mtp style fyi)- but i cannot seem to get it to copy to the the extsd or sd via the cable. I can use solid explorer to transfer files etc, I can use wifi explorer to transfer files... so the sdcard appears to work. My internal sdcard shows a could of ROM zips that are 0 bytes, and I cannot delete them. I cannot "convert to user app" with titianium backup pro (aka TT) to uninstall the stock email app. TT also shows my internal as 12.1gb total?!?!?! I've not restored any of my apps bar a couple which ive done via the market.
Soooo is my internal partitioned wrong? or does it need an error fixed, or partition alignment... and WHHHHYYYY does my recovery STILL reboot when i try to wipe data (i tried just after installing the current ROM)?? what have I done wrong?!?!
internal screwed i think
BUMP! XD please see above for the update...

Ive done it already, ive got it to boot... look at my update post above. I mean 12.1gb internal is kinda worrying me.
Cannot make head nor tail of the problem .
Standard reply to a non boot is .
Boot to recovery format cache data sd card and system .
Flash stock rom via Odin .
No recovery flash CF root recovery first .
That should give you a clean wiped phone .
jje
OK well I'm going to make another thread now because it is booting. I have a different problem ATM really even tho its kinda a continuation of this... I'll change topic head to solved if I can...

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i which is rooted but on stock rom. I recently installed a live wallpaper "Exodus live wallpaper" from the play store and after going through the options it provided my phone just shutdown. I tried turning it back on and it started boot looping. I had a nandroid backup ready from CWM recovery but that would stop at data saying "Error while restoring /data!". I found this a bit odd so I factory reset it but with no luck. The next step I thought would be to flash back the stock using Odin. Again, no luck. After it says successful it reboots the phone which goes straight into recovery saying:
E:Can't open /data/log/recovery_log.txt
E:copy_kernel_file :: Can't open /data/log/recovery_kernal_log.txt
Reebooting...
and boot loop again.
I've tried re-partitioning, wiping cache, wiping dalvik cache, factory resets, formatting everything, using adb but with no luck (couldn't get root), tried restoring previous backups, trying different roms and copying the files directly to the directories using a root file manager.
I am now exhausted after 4 days of near sleepless nights trying to fix it and with nothing to show for it :crying: .

Use CWM to format everything except sdcard
Then flash firmware with Odin 3.07 with pit file and after flashing, go to recovery and wipe data
Try this and report. I've been in the situation and dozens more. We can always find a way out

UPDATE
I've used Aroma file manager to see if I can find these files and they are exactly where they should be with read/write permissions for root and system (rw-rw-r--) so I have no idea why recovery can't open them.
also is there any way to force android to read them or to copy "recovery_kernal_log.txt" manually?
I'm thinking of taking it to samsung for repairs as nothing has worked so far so if anyone has some additional advice please post it before thursday 15th of august
First clear cache data from stock recovery. Than use cwm format system and data then enter download mode and use odin with pit file. U must use your country spesific firmware. If problem persists after all you may have a faulty phone.
Ps: take out sd card after odin flashes successfully in case problem related to sd card.

Looks like I have a faulty phone then.
I wonder how that would have happened from using the live wallpaper as it was perfectly fine before that.

Probably its the last drop makes phone dead! Usually high powered magnets or heat may cause the error. If you use your phone while charging it gets really hot. Hope phone service can repair it.

Can you boot to recovery?
If yes, then flash the stock ROM again from your previous backup.
If you cannot boot to recovery, then you may need to flash the recovery again.
Generally all phones support a download mode. I don't know about yours. But the procedure is to keep the image file on the root folder of the sd card which has a specific name. The phone looks for it and automatically flashes it. If there is no sdcard support then you do this by connecting your phone via USB & another software (such as ODIN in Samsung).

I can boot to recovery, but flashing or doing a factory reset will result in data loss... which I am not very keen because there are few imp data in my mobile..
Remove SIM.
Reboot.
If Rom boots successfully, power off and replace Sim. Then Rom will boot successfully. It is only the initial boot that is problematic.
It is a known problem with ICS Roms and I have faced this issue couple of times.

Out of ideas now.
Other than restoring from backup, I don't know any other way.
If you have a backup, it would be worth trying a reset to see if you can get to boot. You can retore individual data later.
If your device was configured to back up your apps and settings to your google account, then your data will be automatically synchronized and you won't lose anything.
It seems like a failed flash of the Rom to me.

[Noob question]
I have a 2 year old Samsung GT-S5282 i just rooted a month ago, by installing CWM 6.0.3.7 and flashing SuperSU 2.07 in it.
I've installed a few root apps that "boosts" the phone's performance.
But a month later i tried rebooting the phone, it passes the boot logo, then it comes across a dialog saying "process system is not responding, do you want to close it?"
I pressed "wait", but then the system crashes and the screen turns off. I tried consecutive battery pulls, wiping cache partition, but no luck, it still crashes on the dialogue screen.
I reckon it's on the kernel, but i'm STILL not sure what is going on.
Can anybody suggest a fix? I really need this phone and i don't want to lose any data.
(I've backed up my personal files, i meant i don't want to lose any internal data that cannot be backed up)
Please.

I guess you are able to reach recovery mode. If yes, then u should connect it with computer. Try installing a custom rom (i would suggest CM11).

Step 1: Installing TWRP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-star/orig-development/recovery-teamwin-recovery-project-3-0-2-t3435364

Um thank you so much for the suggestion.
But unfortunately when i try to boot to recovery, the stock recovery opens up, not the CWM i flashed.
I tried to flash a fix for it, but it also didn't work.
But i guess flashing a new ROM will be the last option i have, so....do flashing one delete all my data? And if so, can i restore all internal data if ever i'll back it up? Thank you SO much for replying.

Well, then try three button combo (volume-down + home + power) to boot into bootloader and flash TWRP with odin.
No, your files in internal and external storage are not deleted when you format dalvik, cache, system and data partitions.
Edit: volume-down + home + power (boot to bootloader)
volume-up + home + power (boot to recovery)

Okay thanks.
By the way what version of TWRP would work great? (I have XXANF4 stock kernel btw, i still can't access the main screen of the phone after booting up)
And if i wipe system and data partitions will it delete the settings i have on the phone (ex. WiFi connection history, Bluetooth transfer history etc.)?
Thanks again.

Dang it.
Wanted to keep it.
But thanks anyway.
I still can't access the phone. It just boots up, shows the lockscreen, then crashes and automatically reboots, then gets stuck in a bootloop.
I wanted to install a custom rom like you said but i cannot copy the rom files to the sdcard (the phone's still inaccessible).
Any more suggestions? Thanks.

Also, when i try to flash the TWRP 3.0.2 you sent, Odin gives me an error that the md5 is invalid.
I still don't know what the hell is going on.

Also, the reboot problem existed since i installed root apps, the system crash existed since i installed a custom launcher. (Nova to be exact). I don't know if that has connection to problem.
Can anybody help?

Do a factory reset
Go to advance and format system and data
Then flash Stock Deodex Prerooted rom by akshay
Done
It won't delete anything
Flash cwm for star via odin
Then flash twrp via cwm
Remove ur SD card and using a card reader copy ROM file into SD card.
Mount ur SD card
Then flash the rom

I mean, it deletes all the settings right? Like WiFi hotspots and bluetooth transfer history and every app i have on my phone. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that i will delete all of that just because my phone crashes on passing through the boot screen. . .

U couldn't mention what tweaks did u installed to boost the phone and what exactly happened.
So,all I can say is 'do a factory reset'..
Just flash official firmware. The problem was automatically fixed without wiping data.

So i can just normally flash the stock firmware through Odin and Download mode and not wipe data? Is that correct?
