Which class 10 32gb or 64gb micro sd to get? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have read about problems with the class 10 Sandisk 64gb card having problems due to manufacture defects. Some articles also mentioned formatting the card to fat32 in order to work which limits transfers to < 4gb's. Some of my twrp backups are bigger than that.
What are you guys having luck with?

The consensus seems to be the smaller the better. So get a 32 GB if you can.
I myself bought a 64 GB and it kept being "unexpectedly removed", so music playback would pause after a couple of minutes. I contacted Sandisk, and they're replacing mine with "the latest card" because they have found the problem and have implemented a fix. I'm sending my card in today. If you want to be sure that you won't have any problems, don't buy Sandisk. But just know that if you do buy Sandisk, they'll replace it for you.
As for the faulty card, I've tried literally everything to get it work. Trust me, there is no fix. Either the card works or it doesn't.
Just buy a card that isn't Sandisk and you should be fine.
Hope this helped.

People have had issues with 64GB c10 sandisks. I have the 64GB Samsung c10 UHS-1. No issues so far. Lots of use on it already. Faster, but also more expensive.

If you look in the CleanRom thread you'll see this topic was discussed at some length. I've had two SanDisk 64gb Class 10's and had nothing but trouble with them. I switched to the Samsung 64gb UHS-1 Class 10 (as Metallice mentioned) and haven't had an issue (that wasn't kernel related) since. I'm a huge proponent of Sammy's storage products overall, as in addition to the 64gb MicroSD, I also run a couple Samsung 840 Pro 256gb SSD's in my computers and can't speak highly enough for their reliability, quality, and performance.
Just remember: When it comes to Storage, you get what you pay for.

No issues with my Samsung 64 GB formatted to fat32. Think about what they probably did their factory testing on and decide if its worth the extra $10.

+1 for the Samsung

Sounds like Samsung 32gb is the way to go. Now how about the format? Looks like my backups are ~3 gigs. Is everyone using fat32?

I believe we were all talking about the 64 GB. More = Better.

Agreed. It would be worth holding off on buying anything until you can afford the 64. Think about it - there will come a point when you'll need to get a bigger (i.e. 64gb) card, save your money and get it now instead of buying a 32 and then needing to buy a 64 a year from now.

Good advice. I very well may be kicking myself in the future. The 64 is enticing though.

I got the 64 Samsung from Amazon and let the phone format it. I actually don't know if it's FAT or not, but I figured the phone would do the best job of formatting its own card. Have had no problems

Samsung is the way to go. I get mine from the samsung web site. But they are expensive

I just bought a new Samsung 64gb micro sd on amazon for 59.95 on sale.
Not sure how long the sale will last.

I'm pretty sure those will not work. The "xc" is a different format than "hc" I think. And, stupid expensive...

Its not really a different format.. more like a revision of hardware.. the thing is sdxc is a combination of hardware and software.... Some have either one or both.. but for some reason some devices work even if not advertised... Hense why im asking if some one has tried

This pretty much explains it all...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micro_sd#microSD
I've looked into the SDXC cards, from what I've been able to find, SDXC devices can use any SD card but they are the only ones capable of handling SDXC cards.
You will ruin an SDXC card by putting it into a regular SD slot, the device will have to format it to use it and will destroy the cards native format, which is exFAT.
The short answer is, yes, the card can be installed and read by an incompatible device, but doing it will destroy the cards ability to get beyond 32GB and reduce it's speed from UHS-I UHS-II down to the host devices class speeds. This is permanent damage to the cards, it cannot be reversed.

Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
Yes, I did say that - its my video!
I would think it works in most current handsets to be perfectly honest, but since it works in the Sensation then I can be nearly certain of it also working in the Evo 3D too.

Since it's all your fault, (lol) would you mind me at least asking how much that card's gonna cost me?
Also, one more question.... what kind of speed ratings did you get, if you've run any tests?
Thanks, man.

They cost the same as what 32GB cards did when they first came out - $220US (yes, ouch!). They will drop in price soon enough though.

You can only run SDXC if you have exfat support on your Android with the Tuxera (proprietary not OSS) driver. To the best of my knowledge we don't have that yet for our ATPs.
I suppose you can technically format them via NTFS, and maybe that will work, but that's going against the official SD spec.

Honestly, I didn't catch that detail, it being SDXC. There's a review for the product on that Best Buy page that says it worked on their Prime . . . Then it stopped working. Well, we'll see!
Needed an RMA by PrimeUser from Virginia on 2/8/2012
What's great about it: Capacity What's not so great: Reliability Incredibly got this for 50% off during a sale to be used with my ASUS Transformer Prime. Its not even close to 30 MB/s even when being used with a SSD on my PC, more like 7 to 10. My biggest complaint though is the fact that after using it for about 2 weeks it all of the sudden stopped functioning and had to send in for RMA. It is now 3 weeks since they received it and I have still not gotten another so I am not the happiest customer at this time. Otherwise great capacity for its size.

Like I said before, your phone/tablet needs to support exFAT. So basically your vendor had to license the Tuxera driver.

I dont think anyone is being a hater. It is well known that MANY sellers on ebay are selling fake capacity sd cards. You can manipulate a sd card to read as if its a 64gb card even if its really only 2gb. You wont know the cards true capacity unless you run a sd tool or install more than 32GB on the card and see if all your data stays on the card. Dont rely on what your phone or computer states the capacity is. Trust me fake generic cards are very popular on ebay and Sandisk is probably the most imitated brand. I only buy my sd cards from reliable places like Newegg, and Microcenter. I hope your card is the real deal just be careful when buying sd cards on ebay. A quick google search will confirm what I just said....
Any chance someone could post the name if the seller on Ebay that sold the legit class 10 card?

google does not believe in external storage for its devices. It will create lots of problems. 16GB out to be enough for everything . THen there is USB OTG for others.
Another question i have is that Nexus 4 seems to use micro sim. So if i import one from US, will i able to use it here. I have seen ways to make your own micro sim.
Frankly speaking I am more excited with Nexus 10 launch that Nexus 4. Nexus 7 3G is also great news. Google is hell bent on landsliding every competitor
I'm in sync with 'all the above' - considering Nexus 7 to shootout with my wife's pending iThing-Mini - looking at Nexus 4, but would consider Nex 3 or other LG. I'm one of those that have gained a healthy respect for the anvil-like P500/509 [in my case].... Was/is an under-rated device that delivers way more bang-per-buck than critics credit. THat plus the little-recognized fact of pretty good Tech Support from LG people... I give them a 8/10 in my experience. even as old as the device is, their 'chat' people are great if you just have a bit of working knowledge to give them direction.
yay LG.
I guess I'm leaning toward Nex 4 because, if it is not overly buggy at introduction, I think it will just nuke the surrounding competition. the others will quickly move to Ebay...

To everyone who has purchased one of these cards, what type of speeds do you get from your class 10s? On Amazon, some brands claim 30MB/s, 45MB/s, and 18MB/s (this was a "no-name" card, sold at a cheaper price than the others...not a real class 10 if you ask me).
Please list both the brand of the card, along with the speed readings. For the most consistent results, please use SD Tools from the play store. It might not be the best, but it is a very small, lightweight, and simple app to use.

Is that the OG Evo or the LTE? My scores are better than that with my class 4...
EDIT: My scores reflect the internal SD. Attached are the scores for my class 4.
This is the internal speeds. There's no comparison.

It's the LTE..The bottom pic is ur class 4? If so, holy shizz!! What brand of sd is that u got there? I do remember getting better speeds on my 32gb kingston class 4 and thats with the typical 2048kb buffer size on both of course.
No, the bottom pic is the phone's internal storage. If that was ever an external, then I wouldn't care to get a new one....ever.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that the EVO lte can only support up to 32G cards.

Yep, that's a 64GB Class 10 MicroSDXC card for $38, reportedly faster than SanDisk. I just ordered it, will report on it soon
Update: SanDisk 64Gb class 10 is now $37.95 and the 32Gb is $19.99 http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009QZH7BU
I use the 32gb sandisk class 10. I had a 64 but it wasn't class 10. went to buy one and they only had 32's in class 10. so far so good
