WiFi keeps turning on automatically - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

lately in my Asus Padfone 2, the wifi keeps turning on automatically without my permission. Everytime I wake the screen from lock screen, I can already see the WiFi indicator is on above, it's driving me nuts I have to turn it back off every once in a while. This only happen lately when I install many apps from Store I can't remember, so I reckon one of those apps is the main cause of this problem. Can anybody tell me which in my running apps turns on my WiFi automatically?

[FIX/SOLUTION] Facebook push notifications not working .. AGAIN (2013)

For awhile, my Facebook push notifications were working just fine until I had updated to Jelly Bean. I tried everything.. to clearing cache, data, uninstalling, and even the BlackBerry trick again (worked once before) and couldn't for the life of me figure out why they weren't working anymore. I thought maybe it was Facebook clashing with JB. I read everywhere and found out some people had no issues and some had some where every push notifications didn't work and some just Facebook.
Well I spend a day or so trying to figure it out and finally found a new, simple fix.
1) Open the Facebook app.
2) Tap on menu button on the top left
3) Account > Account Settings
4) Apps and Websites
5) Clear out Facebook related apps (Like Friendcaster or HTC Sense)
6) Clear data on the Facebook app and launch app
I noticed some off the apps in there have a push notification toggle button and I believe it was messing up the push notification system of there was to many to keep up with.
Once I spent 20 mins clearing those apps out, I cleared data and started the app notifications started working again. I didn't know it worked until someone wrote on my wall and I was shocked to see a notification!
I really hope this helps some of you out who have gave up looking for another fix.
If you're still not getting notifications, I'm sorry =(

Facebook, Twitter, Google+, push notifications aren't working in any of these apps. So annoying. I even tried re-installing the ROM and apps, but to no avail

Clear all those apps in that Facebook apps list.

Yeah, done that. Doesn't help
Sounds like all your notifications are broke. This is a fix just for Facebook while others are working.

After a whole day of looking around, here's the solution: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120318142032AA1GpzE (quote below). As a step-by-step:
1. log out of your Android Facebook app
2. clear app data
3. go to facebook on a PC and then account settings → security settings → active sessions and end all of them. (not sure if that's necessary, but it wouldn't hurt)
4. Log out
5. Now log in on the Android app and enjoy push notifications.
If you are logged into Facebook on a computer or other device, then your android phone won't sync, one way is to hit the social network widget and tap view all updates, then click on the refresh button, that is what I have to do to fix mine if I am logged into the computer, or you can just log out of facebook when you are wanting to use the phone.
This was caused by the latest update from Facebook's Mobile App, and unfortunately it affects not only facebook, but also twitter on the social network widget.

I have just tried this, along with uninstalling Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Friendcaster. They used to work perfectly. Now, they don't. I ess running the stock TouchWiz but now I'm on CM10. Could that be the problem? I will select the C2DM in Friendcaster, go through the process of entering my email and password, then nothing. It used to say that the registration was successful. Now it doesn't. I will then exit out of everything then go back in to check and the selection will be back to periodic polling.
it worked! Thank you very much!
Actually Solved
I have had this same problem for over a year now, they wouldn't work on my iPhone iPad android phones or tablets. It has nothing to do with resetting anything, clearing caches, reinstalling or restoring. There is an app that you have connected to your Facebook which has blocked your notifications.
Head into your Facebook app and click on account settings, click on the apps button and turn all platforms off. Close the app in your multitask by double clicking your home button and closing the app from there. Get someone send you a test and bam.... Notifications I never thought I would see a Facebook notifications ever again! Head back into your settings and turn platforms back on. Your apps will be gone but once you use an app and connect with Facebook everything will be there again. Worked with Cydia and all my paid apps were in my account again!
Hope this works for everyone to get their notifications back!!

If the problem is caused by an app, yes, it would. But for many that's not the root of the issue, so it's not correct to say it has nothing to do with… Anyway, thanks for contributing with a new solution.

No probs, but I have read through so many forums all having the Same problems and people always giving the same answers, restoring whole fone, getting new fone, updating software, clearing caches, reinstalling the app blah blah blah and the solution I have found fixed mine and many other devices, friends and other forums. So generally it's an app that they have connected to fb that has conflicted with notifications. Instead of going through 1 by one which I tried and everything else, turning off all then starting from scratch completely restored mine and brought it back to normal!

Hi
Found a solution that worked for me so thought I'd share here.
I was using FB 1.9.1 from an old Titanium Backup I kept on my Sgs1 and after setting up Zeam launcher and disabling some system and memory hogs like Google Play Svcs I thought I'd give the newer FB app a go.
Sure enough I stopped getting push notifications.
However rest of notifications on phone kept working, email, gtalk etc.
Then it occurred to me the push notification system might prefer to send notifications to the device rather than the account.
By which I mean every android device had an Android ID supposedly linked to the physical device itself.
I thought of this after noticing that whenever my phone should be popping up a notification that I just sent to mu account from another GB accpunt, namely a chat message, OS monitor would always show a peak of activity before relaxing again and nothing actually happening.
The rush was already happening when notifications were still working.
(I had previously used the newer fB app before and did get notifications to work.)
So i had a close look at Titanium Backup Account settings, and my Google Play store settings, and found out both were *not* using the *main* Google account my phone is linked to.
After which I set both G Mkt and Tit bkp to the right main Google account and immediately after, I updated FB app through G Market.
Hey presto, notifications came back!

I tried as you directed. Works perfect now!
cleared every app on the Facebook account I own. All notifications are working for the Facebook app.
I also used Push Notification fixer for root(there's a non root version too)

This Worked For Me
I am assuming that anyone with this problem has at one point rooted and installed Blackmart, AdBlock, AdAway or Freedom. If not this may not work for you.
I installed Root Commander then went into \System\etc and deleted the hosts file. Using lucky patcher I cleared dalvik cache and rebooted. Then I factory reset my phone and VOILA all push notifications are now working after nearly 4 months. I hope you get your phones working without having to flash your ROM.

I had the same problem, i could not receive the push notification on my nexus 4 and also on my ipad and i think i finally figured out how to correct that. took a minute. log in on a desktop browser check your email notifications: It needs to be at least "important notifications". After that you should be able to open the app and select what kind of push notifications to receive. i am sure that will not help everyone as there are different things that can block push notification but it's still something to look into.

Google Services battery drain

In general this is a well-documented problem, but it hit my DNA only after the most recent OTA. I am surprised no one brought this up here.
If you enable Google Location Services in settings, Google Services will proceed to initiate hundreds of wake locks and turn the GPS on for something like 15 minutes per day, resulting in much downgraded battery life. It will do it regardless of whether you use Google Now or anything else for that matter. Basically it appears Google has decided to keep track of the phone's location on a minute by minute basis as a default option.
The way to turn this off is to disable Google Location Services under Settings - Location and by setting to "off" Google apps location access in Settings - Accounts & Sync - Google - Location Settings. As far as I know this also kills Google Now and your location in Google Maps.
However, to use Google Maps only occasionally, I am not willing to pay the price of a permanently crappy battery life and be subject of so much spying.
If you are rooted there is a way to turn the location services on automatically with Tasker when you run Maps. I am on un-rooted stock, so that doesn't work for me. Another option is to use MapQuest or any other third party maps app.
Any other ideas / suggestions are welcome.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk
When checking the apps that use up the batttery, look at Google services and the apps that call it. Then go one by one and clear data and cache for each app then reboot.
Google services went from the 2nd most battery draining item (just after screen) to nearly the bottom.

[Q] List of apps that can be safely Greenifyed

Hi there.
I can't find it anywhere and the official thread is closed (so strange that there is no official thread in the official Greenify sub forum...)
SO.....where can I look it?
No results in the Search.
Tnx.
I can figure it out yourself. Don't greenify system processes and keep important instant messaging applications running.

My biggest issues come from system apps, such as these:
- Google App
- Google Play services...
- Google Play services (com.google.office process.gapps)
- Google Play services
- Samsung Link Platform Connectivity
- Samsung Cloud Data Delay
- Samsung Push Service
- Backup
- Bluetooth
I have 3 different "Google Play services", Bluetooth even if bluetooth it's turned off, and the Samsung Link there Ida a mysterious for me as I don't have the Samsung Link app installed, and then about 200mb of Google App!!!
Other Samsung backup apps are there but dunno if they can be Greenifyed.
They are all system, and about apps, I don't have any that I can Greenify (I keep WhatsApp, Facebook, and a widget for the clock/weather, but they are so minimum in relation to those system up here!!!
Please help understand if I can Greenify those system apps listed up here, or art least some.
Tnx a lot.

You have some Samsung bloatware on your device, custom ROM would definitely help. Don't greenify Google services, stock Android doesn't run well without. I don't know what "Backup" and "Bluetooth" are in Greenify.
Try to keep all running unless you're willing to flash a ROM.
anyone know if is safe to greenify google photos ?

Yes,I use stock deodexed.
Backup has the Samsung backup icon, and Bluetooth I don't have any idea it's there as I have it turned off!!!
I would like to understand what it's safe to Greenify, and why can't I Greenify Google Play stuff, or if it's safe to Greenify the Samsung Link stuff as I don't even have the Samsung Link app installed
About apps, I have Google App that shows some time after using it and don't get out from the list automatically (so I imagine that Android doesn't close it) so it's shown as a Greenify-able app.
Also, if I Greenify an app like TapaTalk, will I restart from where I was in the forum browsing, or from beginning like if has been killed?

You have practically greenified every App and service on the phone. Do you use it only for making calls?
Calls, SMS, whatsapp, mail (inbox by GMail), Internet browsing (opera mini mainly), games, social (face, xda, etc), and other stuff. It's amazing that you can do almost anything you want with most of the system greenified. It seems that some apps are not so necessary after all... Which app of my list wouldn't you greenify and why? Bye!

E-mail notification problem after update to 23s

Hello, I've recently updated my LeEco Le Max 2 (X820), and I'm having a strange issue.
With the default E-mail app, notifications only arrives when the phone is "on", when in standby, notifications don't arrive.
However, the numeric counter on the icon is showing, so the e-mail is correctly received, only the notification don't arrive.
I've already put the E-mail app in automatic startup and protected apps, but the problem persists.
This happens after 23s update, and other apps, like Gmail, now are working correctly, so I don't think it is the same problem as before.
Any suggestion? It happens also for you?
*sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian.

For me it's working now, but immediately after the upgrade it wasn't working also for me.
I followed these steps and now it's working:
-added Gmail to automatic startup and protected apps;
-disabled background resources control through hidden menu (*#*#46360000#*#* on the dialer);
-opened Gmail-->Settings-->selected my account (***@gmail.com) and then opened "Manage labels"-->Principal, and here, I've disabled and re-enabled the "Add labels to notifications" voice (or if it is already disabled, you should enable it);
-Restarted the phone, and then Gmail started to work properly.
With 20s, also with these steps, it wasn't working, but with 23s now it's working.
I wish it could help you, maybe some word or voice can be a little different (I'm translating from Italian Gmail app).

Thanks a lot for the information. Those are also what I found among tons of posts. I was aware of this issue before I flashed stock rom. I did those steps right after I install gmail (and outlook email app which has same problem). But it was still mute.
How did you install your gmail app and play store? with other service apk? That might be a factor.

I've not used APKs, I've installed Play Store through the pre-installed LeStore app, by typing "Google" on the search bar.
After installed Play Store, I just logged in and then started to download apps, Gmail included, and also updated Play services through the Play Store instead of LeStore (there is Play services also in Le Store, but I haven't installed it).
I have also installed the Google App, maybe it can be relevant?

Looks like it is relevant.
I disable the play services, it uninstalls the updates (which I installed manually). Then I enable it again. When I open Gmail, it would require play services to update through play store. After the updates, I finally get the notification back.
Thank you so much for the idea.
For your Email issue, did you try to change the sync frequency?

I have bought honor 8x from china through a friend As it is a china rom version I have installed google play store and other google services by first installing GM installer...
The only problem I have encountered is that I am not getting notification for messenger app..
I have done below steps to solve the problem but no luck..
1. Reset the mobile settings
2. Providing unrestricted internet access to messenger app
3. Added app in to ignore battery optimization category
4. Manage app manually
a. Auto Launch
b. Secondary Launch
c. Run in background
5. Reinstalled messenger app 4 to 5 times
6. Tried messenger lite as well
7. Uninstalled facebook app
8. Switched on every thing in notification option including priority display..
And every other option I could find on internet
This issue is making me insane as I am getting uninterrupted notification for whatsapp wechat and other social apps...
Developers please help me if you can...

Having this EXACT problem and tried everything you did too. It's really bothering me, I have to open messenger every couple of hours just to find old messages that I should have replied to.
I noticed that when I launch it, there's a brief "no internet connection" message, but just like you I gave it unrestricted access, background permissions, and enabled wi-fi and mobile data to run while phone is locked. I have problems with WhatsApp too though, every time I open it it downloads a bunch of new messages.
Also I don't have Play Services. Installing it causes other apps to glitch out for me, it seems. Maybe this is my issue?
I am not facing any issue with whatsapp and wechat..
And my messenger is solved for now after contacting Honor team..
They asked me to give same access to Facebook app (i.e unrestricted access and background running) and it solved the problem...
You should try the same hopefully it will work for you
