Multi window - HTC One X+

Samsung's new multi-window multi tasking is exclusive. However, Does this feature exist in any rom for our device? Can it be made? Is it possible?
It allows you to open many apps at once, viewing all of them without having to lose any of your data to switch to another window
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium

From a HW point of view, our device is certainly capable of running apps at the same time (and it does), and our display is large enough to view 2 windows/apps at once.
But from a SW POV, HTC has not implemented this and I don't think they will. Sense 5, their newest iteration does not have this.
IMHO, I can see this "multiview" feature be implemented on tablets because of all the wasted space on the display. But on phones it just seems more of a gimmick that real useful. It's nice to have, sure, but I don't see myself using it that often.

I know we don't have the biggest screen. But don't you think it would be nice to Reply To a text message on Whatsapp, without having your Youtube Video Interrupted? Or Continue recording a video while you search something on Google?
Can this be implemented in Roms? Having multi-window? Or is it too hard for devs?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium

To tell you the truth, I have to idea if it can be implemented, I leave that answer to the DEV's.
I'm just pointing out that in real-life situations in my opinion it would prove to be a "feature" you wouldn't use. Yes, Youtube does not continue playing when you switch the app, but that could be fixed by the Youtube app. And seriously, when replying a text message, can you really watch the video at the same time?

Trust me man, I think the new HALO thing has a multi window like feature. Go to XDA or youtube, watch how it works and trust, if you use your phone the way i do, those little things matter a lot.

This kind of feature can be implemented at software level by app developers. In fact moboplayer already includes a window feature that can be displayed over other apps.

There is one important issue with that
A multi window approach is against all google android guidelines
CM devs have thought about in the past but god harsh critics from google devs to not do it
Samsung has gotten around it by using blacklists for apps that will not use it
If you want it by a samsung device

Once the cdma issue is fixed it should be rather easy porting since it uses cm10.1 as a base...

I must say, having tested it first hand that it is very ... interesting. I do like the OS itself, it's fluid and the best part is the pulldown settings (view video here if you don't know what I'm talking about) makes things much faster.
All that being said, it's clearly a very early build. There are a lot of bugs and it's clearly targeted towards developers and geeks like us. It is not ready for use as a daily driver (unless you like that sort of adventure). Also the lacks of apps at the moment really hurts it. I can't live without my basic apps (titanium backup and tasker).

Yes it is as it takes cm as a base however they currently do not support cdma function as of right now but that will change. So the answer is yes it can be ported but u will not have any cellphone usuage which is y no-one is porting it here yet. Impossible idea: Collaboration

I think it would be mind blowing to have a collaboration Rom made by all the Developers we've had here. I know it would be nearly impossible due to conflicting schedules and having lives other than developing but wouldn't it be great to pretty much have a perfect rom? Just kind of a post for conversation, I guess.

Rhetorical or not he's looking for the one Rom, a single Rom to rule them all... would get cluttered and bombarded with too many ideas conflicting. We need choice to keep things interesting. Every Rom here is awesome on a customizational level I haven't seen in my previous phones.
Pointless endeavor really.

this is why AOSP i build is as "plain" as it is, so people can add stuff\remove stuff via flashable zips to it...and make it they're own rom..
I just thought it would be cool to be able to have a massive pool of tweaks from every Rom available in one package. Of course it's great to have a variety of roms but I also think it would be great to see what kind of performance we could have with a bunch of devs putting their skills together in building one rom. They're all great but I was just thinking of what it would be like. I already knew it's not possible which is why I labeled this as an impossible idea. I just wanted it open to discussion.

Who here will dump sense when HTC one GE comes out?

So since we have s-off and we'll be able to use the ruu or just flash a zip (hopefully) who here will be dumping sense and going with aosp? I will probably jump back and forth. What about you guys?

Nah, I like and prefer the look of sense and the older weather flip clock. It'd be nice to get the updates straight from Google tho. I'm hopeful in the near future the UI from sense and others will just be a skin that we can apply to an official Google device.

Depends on how much the camera is crippled in AOSP, but I'm certainly going to try it out.
<3 AOSP but the camera software will bet the deal breaker if any.
They said that it will produce comparable images to the Sense version, but obviously stuff like Zoes won't make it over to the AOSP camera. Really interested in trying it out, particularly when it comes to the current AOSP based ROMs and how it will improve them.
I like that it'll have beats all the time.

I just wish the firmware would leak. None of my friends who work at google have access to the android stuff.
The camera issues is what's keeping me from AOSP as it is, I'm ok with losing Zoe but if it can get close to Sense's camera quality, I'll bite.
I've never used zoe.

I picked the One over the S4 mainly because I find sense a lot more tolerable compared to TouchWiz though (especially with nova launcher and google keyboard) - until the GE is out.
Already dumped Sense, running CM.
Is there already any announcements if Google will make the rom available to everyone who wants to install it? Can't wait to get sense out of my phone.

Android 4.2.2 Hits The HTC Butterfly

http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/07/android-4-2-2-hits-the-htc-butterfly/
Rumor has it that some features on the HTC ones sense 5 won't be on the HTC butterfly/DNA sense 5 update for example blinkfeed.
It literally says in the article that you linked that blinkfeed is included.
Only things that won't be included are things that can't be included, stuff like zoe and the TV remote.

Official CyanogenMod Support for One X+?

I love my One X+, but I also somewhat regret getting it over the Galaxy S3 sometimes because of the lack of development in the ROMs for this device. I know that the One X+ is somewhat of a rare device because it was HTC's flagship phone for not too long with the introduction of the One, but it is still an amazing device with a lot of users. I have looked at a bunch of different ROMs and have been sad to see that they are not officially supported on the One X+. Lloir and all the guys who do ports of ROMs, I really thank you guys, and you guys are the ones allowing my phone to survive and not get thrown away or sold by me because of the lack of development on it. So, to come to my main point from the title, it would be nice to see official support from the CyanogenMod team and all the other major ROM teams. There are plenty of ROMs for the One X, so it shouldn't be too hard to make ROMs for the One X+ too.
I know that the lack of S-OFF and the Tegra 3 processor are major obstacles in creating ROMs for this device, but I would like to see some more official development for this device, and Lloir and all of you guys who work tirelessly to port ROMs over for the One X+, I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart.
