Anyone having an issue where the phone does not charge with the screen on? It shows that it is charging, but I think the drain may be too heavy?

Look, it just does it for everyone. Its not an issue.
Apparently the latest release from samsung doesn't do this any more.
But essentially, as soon as one minisculer, tiny, mini, minute little bit of power is used, like 1 millionth of a milisecond of an LED light or screen on or data connection etc, its no longer truly 100%.
So if its 99.9999999999999999999999999999% battery, it shows as 99%.
I guess Samsung changed it to change to 99% later in the newest release because everyone whines about it. About 5 threads a week here.

the new uk unbranded firmware charges to 100% and stays on 100% when i take it of charge
Regardless of what the indicator displays, ion lithium batteries never charge 100%.. once it reaches 100% it discharges to avoid over charging..
It's not an issue..

My friend has an att s3 that doesn't turn on and charge. When I plug it in without the battery the red light comes on. On the other hand when I plug it in the charger with the battery the red light doesn't come on. The phone is in complete stock so not rooted at all. Do you guys think this is a battery issue or something else?
Btw I already googled this for a while and people are saying different things. So I had to post this here on xda.
Thanks in advance for you guys' response.

You're in the wrong section so you probably won't get much help here. Try posting it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1713
There's too many s3 threads. Thanks for saying that.

It shows up as Charging AC if it's plugged into 1 or 2 amp charger. Is there any app that will show the current charging rate?

There is this app: Galaxy Charging Current Lite (I can't post links yet)
It reads the current of the charge, so not sure if that's what you are looking for.
Here you go https://play.google.com/store/apps/...FudGlzLmdhbGF4eWNoYXJnaW5nY3VycmVudC5mcmVlIl0.

Battery Widget Reborn will do this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hubalek.android.reborn.beta
There is also a non beta version and a pro version.
There is a thread about it here on xda as well.
Let us know the results!

After downloading the app that freddyfredfred has offered you might go to Galaxy note 3 accessories. There are threads on charging, from what I have read and experienced the stock charger works the best. But the trick is a heavy cable, I picked up a 3.0 USB cable for a external hard drive at a radio shack. The cable is twice as thick as the stock cable and knocked about 15 min off a charge cycle from 20% . Hope this helps !
jimzweb1 is right, i am using pantech burst cable with the charger and it works absolutely fine
you can use 'galaxy charging current lite' to check charging current to the mobile.
I downloaded Galaxy charging current lite and it says 1200. Is that a good rate?

Sorry for late reply mate
Value depends on ur charger output.. See what's the output current on ur charger... If it's 1.2A then your value is perfect
Btw you are supposed to consider maximum value not reference one
