There is no software for the WP8 phones that allows you to intercept, record, or block calls. There never has been and there never will be. It is just part of the WP8 security platform.

Is this still the case? Seems insane: there are legitimate reasons for recording calls (customer service departments & sales reps do it as a matter of course) and it is perfectly legal in all US states & Canada. There are 12 US states that limit admissibility of call recordings in court, but that isn't the same thing as banning the practice. In fact, you can record your own activity anywhere you like. Provided one party to the call knows of the recording its legal, not wiretapping (which requires a warrant). And there's no reason a developer couldn't include a courtesy feature: optional recording or audio beep to indicate recording is happening. You can do this with other phone platforms; Apple didn't use to do it in iOS but that wasn't because its illegal, its because iPhone didn't truly multi-task well.
So, is there not an app to do this? Is this not a great market niche being missed? What's the real reason there isn't a call recorder for WP8? I'm hoping for an authoritative response, not speculation that it doesn't exist because of some MS policy (unless you know for sure there really IS such a policy).

+1 on that request. I can legally record calls without the other party's knowledge and would like to begin recording all incoming calls automatically. So far I've found no way other than google voice, which has an audible warning to the other party.. pretty much defeating the purpose of uninformed recording.
i want a nice call recorder, one where it records both sides of the conversation. any app recommends?
also i read that some phones cant record on android... is the M4G one of them?

This one i know what i'm talking about....
call recording depends on local and state laws. Some states/countries it is against the law to record phone conversions. While it other only one of the two party members must be made aware of the recording and very very few allow one to record a phone call with out either member knowing.
I would first HIGHLY suggest looking into your local laws regarding this prior to doing it. You could get in some trouble over it.
I know Google Voice will allow you to record incoming calls, but not out going calls. Other than that i do not know of program that will allow you to do this.
this is mainly for when i call customer service lines so there is no problem as they record it as well. plus i'm in a state where only one party (myself) needs to be informed.
edit: tried vrecorder but it records from microphone. no biggie but who likes to use speakerphone?
i read somewhere that android itself limits the recording. can anyone clear this up for me?
I've tried a few of them- all of them were OK if using speaker. without speaker only your voice can be heard and the other side only very faint, if heard at all.
now I an using "record my call" (with the ugly big red button) and it is relatively working fine most of the time. I like it because it enables you to classify as important, delete record etc after the call...

Android doesn't have any mechanism for recording incoming audio in the OS. For some reason it's missing, even though Android is not bound to US borders, and call recording is perfectly legal in other parts of the world. This is the reason why there are few programs to record calls on Android, and none of them work w/o using speaker.
The only existing way to record would be to put the phone on speaker and use any voice recorder you want.
I use "allcallrecorder" just search for it in the market. Works great for me.
So older Nokias had this feature built in. The ability to record phone calls. With new smartphones, they build them in such a way where you can't program an app to do that. Recording a phone call to the phone's memory directly.
Please tell me Nokia has stuck with this and built the mic in a way you can record calls. Awaiting hardware and software experts to comment.
thanks!
There are restriction in certain US States to record call. Symbian phone made by European manufacturer may allow software to record incoming call but put "beep" sound natively.
About two years ago I used to have Nokia e90 with symbian and a software called Total Recall.
That software allowed me to automatically record incoming and outgoing calls without the beep.
I'm more than sure that the same software is available on Blackmart for ROOTED android devices.
I just don't need it this is why I don't use it right now.
After all it is very convenient to record a call because you do not have to write down anything while you'r driving.

which mode are you using?
I am using mode 1 [mic] and amr audio, but the callers voice is very low.
other mode crashes very often. My phone is not rooted though.
I'm using default mode 1 unrooted also. Volume is lower for incoming calls but I can hear them, although not as loud as myself. I have been very happy with the app and it has picked up my voice and callers whether it was speaker phone or thru the headset.
Dunno, its been good enough for me. Too bad it isn't perfect quality but its tolerable for my purpose
That's very great, Androrec works on stock DNA

Awesome! Is it stock, or do you have a custom kernel or rom installed?

If you have to have alsa installed then you will need root. But I don't know if the call recorder alone will do it. Alsa is the magic
a call recorder app made the news on the xda homepage, maybe try that?

I find that strange, isn't or wasn't that illegal in some states? Or was it just if they aren't notified first...
Tapatalked from my HTC DNA - ReVolt
actually, it's not illegal in the majority of states to record phone calls as long as one of the parties on the call is aware that the call is being recorded (meaning me in this case). In about 14 states, it is illegal for a call to be recorded unless BOTH parties on the call are aware that it's being recorded.
and it's always illegal for a 3rd party (who is not one of the parties on the call) to record any portion of it without a warrant or court order ala the federal wiretapping statutes....
now, back to the topic.....any insights as to BT headset call recording? I use my BT all day and need to record client calls....

I tested 90% of call recording apps on ios.
All require a paid subscription and to merge current call with another call center number to be able to record, not gracefully at all.
Maybe it's better with jailbeak to be able to do native record.
No call recording app for iPhone all Free & Paid not work, I test many
