Hey guys,
Im running stock ROM: 2.73.405.5
Radio : 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
My device has recovery and root.
And GPS does not seem to work, I have tried with Google maps and Waze.
Waze gets my location for a sec (as it resets the map to my real location), I have disabled the use of wireless networks to find out the location so I guess GPS must be working if it can see where I am for a second but after that it says it's looking for GPS satellites and it never finds any no matter where I am.
As far as I recall I have never been able to get a satellite.
Will a radio upgrade help me?
Has anyone ever experience such problems and found a solution?
Are there any changes to settings I need to apply except enabling location services ?

have you sat still for a good 5-10 mins with a clear view of the sky?> and does ur internet work fine on the phone?
hero can locate you either with the phone's network service or GPS, the first one locate you in no time but can't get an acurate coordinate. On the contary, GPS takes longer time but get a better fix (Take a few minutes).
Go to "setting" - "position"(not sure for my not using english as my default language) check both box to active GPS and network locating function.
Hi there - wondering if anyone else has experienced this or can help me. Have seen some similar-ish threads dating back many months but nothing exactly seems to answer this
Until last week, the GPS on my S2 was working fine. Always locked pretty quickly etc.
But for the last week or so, I cannot seem to get a GPS fix AT ALL. I have tried restarting, clearing the aGPS data, etc. etc.
I have installed GPS Status and GPS Aids from the marketplace as recommended in some places. GPS Status shows many satellites being detected in grey, but nothing locks on to them. My phone is not rooted so I have not tried to alter settings etc. as yet, as not really sure this is the problem as I have not changed anything recently. (Could t-mobile have done something on their end that is causing it maybe.. ??)
I am running stock ICS on t-mobile.
Any illumination anyone could offer would be most appreciated!
many thanks
Have you flashed any rom?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Even if it was a carrier update, no need to be a custom rom.
I use GPS-Test to "test" my GPS, can you please install it tell us what is the biggest SNR you get?
I think you will only get a lock if you have at least 3 sats with SNR above 30.

i was using gps status and aid like you did. didnt work till i tried gps test plus.
Many thanks for all the replies
@arc Have not flashed a ROM, just using stock ROM which got upgraded automatically to ICS from gingerbread a few months ago
@zedread Installed GPS Test and tried it briefly just now. Get 7-9 satellites with SNRs of between 20 and 40. All of them stay grey and none of them get used for locking. This is similar to what I have seen in GPS status etc. (i.e. it seems to find satellites but does not proceed to try and lock any of them...all of them always stay grey)
@happily can you advise what it is in GPS Test Plus that helped? Just got the free version at the moment.
Anyone have any more ideas?
Many thanks
Try FasterFix from Google Play Store.....good luck.

hi guys i have been testing my galaxy s3's GPS. i am using osmand app as my GPS app. sadly the app could not find any satellites and pin point my current location. even if i leave my S3's GPS active for a more than 5 minutes it could not get any satellites even if i am standing on a open area.
what should i do? how can i reset my GPS?
thanks in advance
Turn mobile data/wifi on and then try to use GPS. If GPS receiver doesn't have fresh AGPS data, cold start will take from 10 minutes to infinity.

Agree with you. Turn mobile data on. GPS or Glonass receiver use mobile network to fix the signal. When your position is done, you can turn off mobile data.
oh do you really need the mobile data active? was it possible to get your exact location without the use of wifi or mobile data? just your GPS? because osmand can download the maps offline then just use the GPs data to pin point your location. have you guys tried using the osmand app?
thanks
GPS receiver needs to download some (4-5 kilobytes) of data from server. This is called A-GPS, Assisted GPS. Without it, GPS still will lock onto satellites, but it will be 20-30 minutes instead of 2-3 seconds.

U only need data/wifi for first location fix and to dl. extra GPS data.when your location is found,u can turn of data/wifi and never use it again if u got downloaded maps.
Its just to get faster location fix on first GPS fix
I just tested my s3's GPS today in open air and got a lock within two seconds. phone locked 15 satellites. My phone is running completely stock rom and kernel.
So as others suggested, you should turn wifi or mobile data on so that A-GPS could work.
If you are worried about your app downloading more data and cost you money eventually then you may try app named "GPS Test". Its a very simple app and gives you some key info like satellites in view and locked to plus accuracy etc. It doesn't download any maps etc. Once you get locked, you can close the app and open your desired maps app.

Hi there,
I also have an issue with my GPS. Navigation is stuck at Searching for GPS.
Also when I run GPS test, it does not see any Satellites. I have my mobile data and WIFI on, and also tried to update the agps data with fastergps.
I have found different threads suggesting to uninstall maps but that did not help either.
Any ideas? (the issue existed on 4.0.4 stock, and also on latest aokp 4.1.1 build 3)
Thanks.
Also the GPS icon flashes briefly (like twice) and then disappears. Watching the notifications the same thing happens - Searching for GPS- appears briefly and then dissappears.
Is this the normal behaviour?

That usually means the phone has stopped searching for satellites for any reason, these usually are app-related.
Please download GPS TEST from Play store and report if it can find and lock on any satellites. If not or if it keeps loosing the connections, then something is wrong.
Make sure you don't let the screen turn off during the fix since that will disable the GPS.

I have tried GPS Test and it sees 0 satellites. I have also tried a couple of other apps with no success.
Even with GPS test running, display on, I still observe the same flashing of the icon and notification popping up, then disappearing after 2 seconds and reappearing again...
Have same problem. I tried GPS test. It take about 5-10s to lock the GPS. However, it will dropped after sometimes.
If some of you guys are not running stock ROM, then there might be kernel related.
I tried Temasek's newest kernel yesterday on my AOSP MIUI ROM, but couldn’t get a gsp fix.
Went back to siyah kernel and got fix within seconds.
Also try setting your regional pool with fasterfix

I had the issue on stock Rom 4.0.4 before I flashed aokp build 3. But maybe I'll try a different Kernel then... just to make sure that this is not the problem

Update:
Tried flashing latest Siyah kernel, but GPS is still behaving the same odd way,
Thanks for the suggestion anyways

Aluminum Case
I thought my GPS was busted as it showed which satelites were available (agps had downloaded) but it woudn't lock.
I then took my aluminum case off the phone and discovered that this was interfering with the GPS lock.
So take your case off before assuming that the GPS is buggered. *sigh*
"My gps wasn't working on my phone. I took it to the Verizon store after I had flashed back to stock, they messed with it for a little while and then ordered me a refurbished one. I received it the next day and when I powered it on guess what the gps didn't work. So I called tech support and to my surprise the person that answered the phone actually knew what she was talking about.
She told me the gps issue is a Samsung issue, (even though is only effects Verizon and sprint phones) they are working on an update to fix it. But in the mean time she told me how to do a work around to get it working. Here is what she had me do."
Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service(leave it off to)
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market
now the gps should be working.
Hey everybody
I hope I can get some help from you guys.. I got this issue that I started to get into the running and started to need more of my gps to track my training and Ive noticed this weird behaviour of my gps.. It just wont even search for satellites whenever the 3g is on (you know the alert that says searching for gps).. installed the GPS checker to see if there was no satellites or something but it wont even search for them whenever I have the 3g on.. I found that the GPS works only if I disable the Mobile Data and restart my phone.. So I cant have both at the same time.. the minute I enable the 3g data it stops working and I have all the GPS options checked at the configuration and the wifi 3g assist.. What could be causing this?
Please let me know if some of you guys have some issue like this.. I have JellyBam 9.0.0 cyanogen mod based 10.1 and baseband XXXKI4

If you don't have this issue with a stock ROM, its probably a bug in the Jellybam ROM. Have you done a clean install? Since Jellybam has been banned from XDA, you probably won't get support for that ROM here. Maybe you should try contacting the dev of the ROM on their forum.

There's a number of GPS 'fixes' on here, I suggest you search for the threads containing those fixes & try some of them.
Hi!
I just want to share my workaround having same problem as this. After configuring my gps.conf as i've posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713&page=77, all went smoothly and fast GPS lock for just about 5 - 15 sec, even on a cloudy or rainy day. Then last Tuesday morning, as soon as the mobile data got connected it cuts the GPS. In short, GPS & mobile data won't run simultaneously. I ran a series of reboot, shutdown, clean up... then as much as i don't want to, i ended up reflashing/reinstalling everything but to no avail! Now, since everything is fresh w/ my S2, but still had same problem. I now zeroed in the problem to how my mobile data connects. I didn't think of this before because everything works perfectly fine. Anyway, this time i changed the Network mode from "WCDMA only" to "GSM only". Finally! it works! problem solved.
So far as of this writing, both the GPS & mobile data connection are working simulteously. Only drawback are: (1) I can't browse the net using the "GSM only" mode because of the bandwidth limitation, but works ok w/ Waze app. (2) If i switched & connected to mobile data using "WCDMA only" mode, i need to switch again to "GSM only" mode & restart the phone in order for the GPS to works again.
I don't know, but i'm thinking if our telco here has something to do why I had this problem. Maybe they change some configuration... I dunno.
My phone:
SGS2
Android 4.1.2
3.12.0-rc1 Siyah-Dorimanx-V8.41
XWMS3 NeatROM v6.3
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. Searching forum and the internet without results.
Last week I spent a lot of time with my SGS2. The problem occurs when gps and mobile internet data are used at the same time, but only when the phone use 3G or H+ standard.
When mobile data are transmitted on E/2G there is no problem at all. The issue with gps is that when I drive car and I'm in one location at the city (every day at the same place) the gps icon disappeared and no navigation at all. This is quite big square around 2x2 km. After I leave the area I have to turn off and on the phone and everything works ok, even when mobile data 3G/H+ are transmitted.
So described problem occurs only at the specific area. I don't know what cause the issue. After next researching I discovered, that gps disapeared ONLY WHEN THE PHONE USES UMTS 2100 MHz. In the service menu I mark only UMTS 900 MHz and the gps works very good. This time mobile data 3G/H+ are used simultaneusly with gps and everything is ok.
So the problem is olny when we are connected to BTS at 2100 MHz and only at the specific area. It seems that some kind of 2100 MHz signal intereferences wiht gps circuit maybe. I'm not a proffesionalist, I only suppose that.
Maybe somebody will find the complete solution with that.
My problem is at the cetral of Poland. I tried a lot of firmwares, modem drivers, gps.conf modifications. Nothing. Zero results.
My phone
SGS2
Android 4.1.2
Modem I9100XXKH3
T-mobile brand (but tested unbranded)
JZ054K.I9100XWLSS
Regards
Hmmm... it seems our telco here has something to do w/ my concern. Today, simultaneously my S2's GPS & 3G/H+ are working perfectly fine. I didn't do any reconfiguration w/ my S2, i just tried to switch how my mobile data connects, from "GSM only" to "WCDMA only".

Hello,
I get a GPS fix within 10 seconds. But with Maps, however, the signal jumps back and forth. Also, the signal does not show exactly the location, or a few meters away. These problems are probably also known to the UMI users. Somehow I have read what of MTK tools, where this problem can be fixed. Can someone post a tutorial, or link?
Thx.
Hi, looking forward to fix the same issue... Any news?

Gday mate,
I was having similar issues with my GPS jumping to the street next to me whilst driving and getting itself all turned around. The other issue I had was bluetooth would not connecting to my car, so I tried a few things on this list: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/fix-nougat-bluetooth-issues/
Specifically what seemed to fix my bluetooth AND GPS was this: (I also set the passcode on the car to '0000')
"This is a really good fix, confirmed to work by many people. To reset your Bluetooth settings, fire up the Settings app, and locate and tap on Backup & reset option. Now, touch ‘Network settings reset’, and then ‘Reset settings’. Confirm this on next screen. Note: This will reset all your settings related to WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile data. Keep that in mind. If you need WiFi urgently, then better do this later on."
The above made my GPS a bit more stable. Since then I have updated the device to the latest beta: PLUS.V3.02_20170208_c239v55_kw_u3_no-DB and GPS is working perfect now. Link from bencebacsi on UMi Forum: http://www.mediafire.com/file/hh1069alx7v8i6i/PLUS.V3.02_20170208_c239v55_kw_u3_no-DB.rar
Best of luck mate!

It's not usable for this problem.
I tested Faster GPS after rooted, MTK tools, Engineering Mode, and another more tools and tricks, and nothing helped me with better gps signal on my UMI plus.
In enginneering mode I deleted data from hot, cold, warm and full gps start without A-GPS started, A set position from detected position, download new satellites positions, then start A-GPS and it was same how before. GPS signal on Mediatek chipset is bad.
Sometimes I have fixed 12 satellites, another time zero satellites. Gps signal jumping from zero to good in the car, or outdoor.
