[Q] DriveDroid - AT&T LG Optimus G

I tried to get it to work with no success, I guess I am wondering if anyone else has got it to work.
Will drive droid work with this phone?
If it wont work, are there any other alternatives?
I am using BeanStalk ROM
edit: I am guessing the main issue is the lack of UMS support....

Drive droid saved my ass last week when I was recovering my freebsd box that couldn't read the zfs root volume.
I'm running rootbox on my phone optimus G.

Root box has a mass storage option?

I don't see a mass storage option. But that didn't seem to stop drive droid from working for me.

[Q] insert disk into drive f?

Just got a new computer the other day and just ran into an issue with my x2. I downloaded and installed the drivers but when I plug in the phone to the usb port, it detects a device but tells me I need to format the drive. I click cancel and in 'my computer' it shows 2 removable storage devices but when I click one it tells me to put in a disk. I am in usb mass storage mode. Running preroot gingerbread on phone, windows 7x64 home premium. I can use my xp computer that I know works but it'd be awesome if anyone can help solve this.

My laptop is running windows 7 64bit and I've had no problems connecting to my DX2 SD Cards running pre rooted gingerbread. I've no idea why you would be having problems. Sorry I can't be any help other than to let you know it can be done
Im totally aware that its possible to use 7, and like the OP says, I've got another pc that I can use. What im wondering is if anyone knows how I can fix it so I can use my awesome new computer instead of walking upstairs to use the senior citizen

that just happened to me today, make sure your phone is awake and unlocked.
It is but thank you for helpful advice

you could always try re-installing the drivers. maybe something went wrong during the install. just a thought though, dont bank on it

Did try that, uninstalled, reinstalled from the rsd download. Also uninstalled and plugged in phone and let it auto install. Same result but thank you for constructive ideas.

For file transfer proposes, ensure the phone is set to usb mass storage mode.
Disregard all other phone settings *unless* you're using adb. Then you'll want charge only setting.
Cheers

I installed my drivers from here with no problems. Make sure u install them as the administrator for a correct installation. shoot i cant post the link cuz imma newbie but its handheld softpedia...jus google it
Ok I solved it, sort of. If I am logged in as owner/administrator I cannot access the mass storage, but on a whim I logged onto my kids account and tried it and it works. This strikes me as extremely odd. The reason I tried this is because I was trying to access shared folder on my xp pc last night from admin account and it wouldn't show, but it showed from my kids account. Anyone know what permissions I need to change? Win 7x64 home premium.
Edit: thanks everyone for advice.

Sounds like malware or corrupted user profile. I would just delete your user and remake it

I highly doubt its either, the computer is 4 days old running trend micros titanium internet security. Is it even possible to delete the owner profile?
Btw thanks for offering up serious advice

[Q] USB Max size?

I tried searching the forums for an answer, but haven't been able to locate one. If someone knows of another thread, could you link it please?
My question is, is there a size limit to a USB drive that the Prime dock will recognize? I have a Scandisk 16Gb drive. When I put it in the USB port the Prime flashes "Preparing external storage", but that message disappears, leaving me no access to the drive. Smaller capacity USB drives work fine, albeit from different manufacturers.
Is this a capacity issue, or something else?
I think it is something else. I plugged in a 500gb hard drive via usb and it seemed to work fine.
The USB drive that I have that didn't work was a Chromium image which I'm guessing just can't be read by the Android OS.
My 2 tb external works fine.

Thanks for the input. What is a chromium image?

I never heard of that before. Would like to know also.

2TB USB3.0 works fine here

I think the question is how is the drive formatted. Not every format is supported. I know that NTFS (windows default for large drives) is hit or miss.

USB debugging vs mtp initialization

Has anyone ever had a problem flashing .zip files over debug mode because I found that I just get a (bad) flash if I copy a rom or kernal through debug yet mtp transferred files work great
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I've always used transfer in debugging mode and never had a problem. Flashed just about every ROM here and have never used mtp.
I transfer in USB Mass Storage, cause MTP is slower and more likely to have an issue.
Though I have gotten lazy and transferred through MTP and flashed without problems.
I couldn't get my phone to flash anything I transferred through USB debugging but I'm glad to hear it works for you guys

I seem to recall a while back (think it was in shostock2 thread) quite a bit of discussion regarding transfers via MTP. If I recall correctly, the general consensus there was that MTP was causing numerous file corruptions/incomplete transfers...

Mine is the.other way around if I use debug my phone won't use an apk zip or anything Hmm I wonder why

Ok I figured out my 32 gig memory card is the problem when I transfer data from internal to external it normally corrupts when I do a bunch at one time so I transferred one song at a time and it worked like a charm everything played no corruptions I was stoked then I powered my phone down for a reboot went back to emmc and only about 25 of 300 songs were still there the rest were gone can anyone tell me why this happened

Using the USB port in my car for audio?

Hi there. I have a Ford Escape with a usb port that can stream music from ios devices and charge them. Does anyone know of a way to make this work on Android? I'm currently using bluetooth to stream. I'm on stock 4.1.1

Just wondering, what happens if you put the phone into usb mass storage?
Edit- sync may not support external memory so not for sure if that will work or not.

I have 2012 cruze with a usb port and ive tried a couple of different things and I cant get it to work either. My last phone was a evo and I could just mount as a mass storage device but the note 2 doesn't have that option...
I have a cruze as well and use an ipod with it. You can put the phone into mass storage mode as long as you are rooted. Do a search on xda for mtp to mass storage and you should be able to find something that should do the trick. It does require flashing a zip. If I recall it may or may not work for the note but I had no problems with it when I had my s3.

[Q] insides of a dna?

Has anyone opened up a dna to see the insides? I'm curious as to if there's any way to add more storage to it.

Just get an OTG (on the go) USB cable. It will allow you to plug in SD cards or USB devices (like a flash drive or HDD)

The only drawback I've seen with OTG is no way to charge at the same time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

DNA comes with this: http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...ct/flash-emmc/detail?productId=7639&iaId=2324
sticking with Sammy's eMMC is probably a good idea (essentially an industrial-grade SD card: bundling a memory controller and NAND memory all in one) & here are your the ones you can choose for the upgrade: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/file/media/Samsung_eMMC_Brochure-0.pdf#5
then if you manage to get the chip soldered on to the board, you have the BIOS issues so you'd need a software dev who knows how to do it...
edit: i recently picked-up a mint One X+ for $100 from CL...it would be nice if i could swap out that 64gb to upgrade my DNA & give the the X+ the 16gb...kickstarter anyone?
That would be very hard to do if its even possible.
