GE Radio bypasses throttling? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I just noticed that I'm at 8GB this cycle, and my download over LTE is 10mb. However, if I flash the newest AT&T radio, my speed drops to .5 (throttle speed). Flashing GE Radio back restores 10 mb download. Anyone else confirm?

Looks like you my friend, have found a hole in the matrix!
I'm currently using the latest GE radio, but on the 5GB plan (not unlimited). There can't be many of you guys (unlimited) left, but hopefully someone will be able to reproduce this.

Ive hit 6 to 7 gig the past 4 months with no throttling. This is on a stock att one. I dont get the text saying anything about it either. Maybe ill press my luck and download anything amd everything that I can just to see what happens.

AT&T seems to have moved to relative throttling. What I mean is, throttling doesn't seem to be black and white anymore. In the past, once you passed a certain amount of usage, you would be throttled until the end of the billing period. Now, it appears that throttling is much more fluid: when a large amount of data has been used in a short period of time. Throttling then only lasts for a couple of hours or the rest of the day.
I've observed numerous times where I'm getting throttled (sometimes only download speeds; other times, download and upload), but when I check again later, my speeds return.

Mine is still throttled like clockwork at 5gb....
I followed the unthrottle directions here and switch airplane mode on then off and am unthrottled every time until reboot

Mr. Red if you don't mind sharing the throttling procedure...?? :fingers-crossed:
I had been using dialer trick to make network EDGE only then back to LTE to fix speeds but ATT seems to have fixed that.
Thanks

Anyone having issues on data?

This past few days i'm having issues on data. It randomly drops like 2-4 times a day.
Yes i have tried different modem and rom.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I am. I notice it about twice a day. I've done all the tmo troubleshooting and there is a "trouble ticket" out right now for my phone because of it. I run a speedtest and then take a screenshot of the 0kbps speed, to document the exact times. My plan is to follow all the troubleshooting steps and when nothing works I will request a discount on my bill every month that it occurs.
I have a sneaking suspicion that it is somehow related to throttling. Do you ever get throttled and if yes, do you get data drops more often during throttling?
i'm sure i'm not getting throttled. don't know wth is happening to my phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I have my phone set to EDGE so that I don't hit the cap and get throttled, but I have EDGE crap out on me 3-5 times a day, making me have to reboot the phone to get any data back, but my calls and texts work fine even after it craps out.
I don't know if it's a phone problem, but it's damn annoying, and I will get T-Mobile to fix it, or replace my phone.
If you've tried other modems, maybe look into some of the antenna mods. They seem to help some people. Might warrant a new phone if you can prove to Tmobile its defective.

[Q] Slow 3G speeds (Throttled?)

I'm wondering if I've been throttled :/.
Yesterday morning I was updating a few apps on the market and all seemed normal. I was updating a 2MB app in around 5-6 seconds (I'm on 3g CDMA-eHRPD). Then last night I noticed that browsing was going a heck of a lot slower than normal.
This morning a ran a speed test and found out that my download speed was at 107kbps (compared to the 987kbps I tested 2 weeks prior).
What made me curious is the fact that my upload speed is higher then my current download speed (upload is now 258kbps, was 486kbps 2 weeks ago).
Also if I was being throttled wouldn't I receive some sort of notification?
NOTE: All these tests were from the same location.
Well what's your data usage on your bill so far? Cause it could just be the 3G network taking a crap like it normally does

You aren't being throttled. I'm at a little over 15GB this month and they haven't throttled me.

Hmmm ok. Yeah I am at 5GB this month so it's either the phone or the 3g around here being wonky. I haven't updated my ROM in over a month so I'll do that first and take a drive and see how the service quality is elsewhere.
I have noticed things getting a little faster now. Not like they were, but I hope it is just the service in the area. I live in a semi rural area with big cities 10 miles in both directions.
I noticed that when I had the 906 radio I was getting super slow download but normal upload speeds. Are you on the 906 radio? If so try the 802 one
Yeah I'm running 802. I don't think I ever went higher. Gotta update the baseband in my signature. I had a lot of issues on this build I am on so I'll wipe and flash the latest of my ROM and see where that goes.
I'm pretty much ruling out throttling because I haven't heard really anyone else with the problem lately.

Tmobile/Simple Mobile internet SLOW on blaze modem!

Hey guys, im sure im not the only person, but it seems the internet is SLOW and moves in speed bursts/intermittent pauses when loading websites and downloads can be horrendous sometimes. Its not my reception, never had this problem on another android phone. I flashed the blaze modem.. tried to use other modems like the k2 modem (if thats what the name was) but everytime i flash any other modem it seems to sorta temporarily brick the modem because I never get service after flashing. I am on latest only one rom
Am I missing something? I even changed automatic band to manual, no difference. Is this normal and an issue that needs to be resolved? Please advise, the internet speeds. random slow downs and bursts are killing me. Please advise, thanks guys.

my advice. try all the T-Mobile compatable modems. some work better based solely on your location.
atfer you flash or reboot your phone, normally it takes a while to aquire a signal, its especially bad with this phone. the fastest way is to go into settings and manually search for a network
I agree to the OP. I've tried every modem also and I've experienced the same exact problems where I get great reception in bursts. When I get the h+ signal it goes light gray and I get the worse receptions or the signal just stalls. The h and 3g signals go bright white and signals become fair at best. There are moments of speedy receptions but its seldom.

I was getting all these symptoms when i was on cm9. Its a known fact the that aokp for some reason generally speeds are slower than what you would usually get. This has happened to me on every smartphone ive own.
As soon as i flashed blackstar Rom and dialed *#2263# and changed to wcmda all, my data doesnt hang as much anymore. The spurts rarely occur anymore. Hopes this helps.

I figured out a way to get high speeds again. Go to *#2263# make sure band is on all wcdma and reboot. Once your booted up go back to the band menu and change to wcdma 850. Circle with a line thru it will pop up. Wait like 30 secs and signal bars should pop up but no 4g. Then change back to all wcdma and do a speedtest and if your in a really good t-mobile area your downloads and upload will be fast. I just discovered this last night. Every time I reboot and do a speed test, I get like 2 mbps down and crap uploads every time but as soon as I changes bands to 850 and go back, its like the radio reboots and i get awesome speeds like I used too.
Edit: once in a while there will be a hang. What I do before that happens is before I use my data I refresh it by pressing data toggle wait ten seconds and turn is back on.

Service mode specifically is for stock ROMs. I'll have to go back to it again. Another thing I noticed is that when I altered the service mode then switched ROMs I couldn't change from 2g/3g/h it just stayed on 2g figuring that was the last setting I had it on in the stock ROM. I flashed the stock ROM last night to change the service rom then flashed PA CM10 and I'm getting h again. I will do what you suggested if it results in better speeds. Cm9/cm10 ROMs don't have the service mode but have the phone information settings. Its not as direct or deep in changing the radio freq.

Thank you Rob! This definitely worked for me. I was running the Tmo stock rom (from the Tmo note forums) for about 2 weeks with my down speeds reaching up to 12mb and up reaching up to 3mb. Had to reboot last night, and my speeds went down to crap again, but I just did this and my speeds are back! Great find.

So it seems like the Tmobile Stock Rom is the best way for us to go? Is it rooted at least? Why does this Rom work better than all the others in regards to internet speeds?

Network throttling possible fix?

Ok Guys We are definately onto something here and I hope to test the theory, The story starts like this, I bought a s1 a while back and was using it on three uk, every day at 3pm it got throttled down to 30k a sec, pathetic, well About 2 weeks ago I acquired a ascend p1, Got it home slapped my sim card in it got to three oclock no throttle ! I thought it must be because the phone supported 21Mbps download so was faster and thought no more of it, but every now and then the internet would crash for about a minute or 2, so I installed logcat and got the output and it was mentioning android/server/throttleservice as the culprit, well I got peeved with this so 4 days ago I got the s3 because I thought it too would be not throttled because it supported the same speed 21Mbps , well it got to 3 oclock and band throttled again, now its all starting to make sense, I think the network is able to tell if you are tethering or using a hotspot as the phone is telling it by accessing phone state in the same way as any other app,
flashing this zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346680 saw a huge increase in speed but still got throttled
QUOTE : "Can anybody tell me what is wrong?" Nothing ThrottleService is not part of your app and the error is not intended to concern you. It's a system service that seems to be able to throttle the network traffic (I guess for testing) – zapl Nov 29 '12 at 18:57

This has happened to me when I accidentally removed the following line from the manifest:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_ST ATE" />
Once I added it back there everything came back to normal.
I hope this helps.
Source: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...-network-stats
Was my 1st clue
this was my second http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057344
this is the logcat of the ascend p1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2127311
it was not throttled even on a stock Rom !
To test this theory I'm asking if somebody could be good enough make a flashable zip of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057344 for any s3 rom to test the theory? this could make a huge difference to network speeds, as I say the ascend is not throttled in any way and thats got to be code based. the only thing is that the flashable zip must be for that particular Rom as they aren't generic.
Three uk throttle there speeds between 3pm and 12am. They use a 'technology called SpeedSense. Basically if you are using a lot of bandwith they restrict your speeds to ensure those that havent really used they bandwith to do so. There is nothing we can do as a device because it is all done by your number and tge amount of bandwidth that you have used.

You said it, you and I both!! I don't know if it's just me or my area, but Verizon's 4G has gotten worse than it has ever been! I don't know whether it is a lack of optimization on the towers not having any back haul capabilities and getting congested? Or if the last 4 phones I've had in the past two months all just sucked, including a GS4, LG G2, and two Note 3's, I'm betting Verizon is just starting to suck plain and simple! I barely get above 2-3 Mbps, and that's if I'm lucky, otherwise my speeds are generally under 1 Mbps, yes 3G speeds! I feel like I'm on Sprint all over again. May be time to switch to T-Mobile!!

Just had the notification for the OTA update pushed to my phone about 10 minutes ago. I'm hoping it will be as easy as running OTA Rootkeeper, like it was last time.
Just got my GN3 4 days ago, and am apparently one of the lucky ones. Great battery life, everything just works. Also works perfectly with my Blueant S4 Visor unit, so that S-Voice handles everything perfectly, enabling completely handsfree operation for calls, texts, etc.
My question here is how would I go back to what I have now, should I decide to take the update, and it breaks something that is currently working fine now. That wouldn't be the first time an update broke something.
I have no need for root, so that is not a concern for me.
Thanks.

I had a bunch of that when I first got the Note 3 ... finally decided to fix my Internet problems and I don't get it any more... Went out and got a new router and modem that weren't 2 years old and all is well now...
and yes... all my other devices "seemed to work fine" on my old router setup... but then my other devices weren't as advanced as this thing is and had no way of letting me know i had instabilities in my connectivity.
