Just went from powerwashed to CM7.2 to DOMINATION 20130623 this week.... domination works and is a snap kick to the facial region (in a good way). Haven't tried Hellybean yet, giving each about 2 days before moving on. :silly: Skeptic, have you compared the two?

Is all in the little features for me
Slim has a couple that domination, hellybean, and others don't have.
They are all so close it would be super hard to decided between any of them.
You gotta find those small things you can't live without.

i haven't tried domination. too many features
but seriously, the only feature i use in Helly Bean that's based off of another rom is TRDS, which is freakin amazing on this phone. so useful because i hate that gray gradient image in some apps on JB.
maybe i'll use the app sidebar from chameleon OS, but i'm more of a simplicity guy myself. that's why i used cm10.1 for so long, but i like TRDS too much to ever go to cm lol

Thank you guys ill try all of them thanks again

I have been using the Helly Bean for Fascinate for a few months and I have a lot of issues with MMS. The biggest reason I would assume is because I'm actually using it on a Mesmerize, but I can't find much information about how to fix it. Anyone know anything about this probably? The other problem I have is that it will often not recognize my SD Card, and so I can't get to a lot of the things saved there or use my camera or download images/save screenshots/etc. On the official Helly Bean thread someone said to ask at the Fascinate thread about issues with Mesmerize but I can't find it and this seems to be the most active recent Fascinate thread, so apologies if this should go somewhere else--I'd be happy to take it elsewhere if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

There's two ways to fix this issue:
1. Edit the APNs somewhere in Settings.
2. Convert the fascinate rom to a mez rom using RomKonverter on RootzWiki.

What kind of SD card are you using? I have a 16GB Samsung Class 2 card and have never had this issue. Try a different SD card, that's all I can say.

How might how to edit the APNs and what to change?
And the SD card is a 16gb Samsung card, I don't know much more about it than that as it came with my phone. I never had any problems with it before (on stock or I had an AOKP 4.1 before). I will see if I can find another card to try though.

You have a Mesmerize right? On US Cellular?

I also recommend using this tool to format your micro sd card from a pc/laptop.
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
Backup to your pc stuff you would like to save (pictures, music, roms, etc,,, or even all of it) then put them back on there afterward.
See if that helps get you up to jellybean better.
I run a class 4 16gb patriot card in one of my fascinates in any ROM with zero problems

[Q] Trying to figure out what to do next (noob questions)

First of all I would like to apologize if you have heard these questions a thousand times before, but I have done a fair amount of reading and haven't gotten enough concrete answers to be confident enough to continue.
I just got up the courage to root my Fascinate after over a year of having it by following droidstyle's excellent guide. It was very painless and worked first shot, so no worries there. Now I'm at the point of what to do next... I have already frozen the bloatware and looked into some 'root-friendly' apps but I'm not sure where to go from here. I think I've decided I want to get the most out of this thing as I'm not due for an upgrade for (what seems like) a long time. I'm under the impression that installing a good ICS rom is the way to go but I just have a few noob questions before I continue.
1) From what I have been reading Glitched AOKP ICS is the best rom to use currently on the Fascinate, correct? Also quick question, regarding the link to download it... is the current version the build 34 one or the milestone 5 one at the top?
2) Rooting my phone initially didn't erase any of my apps or data. What will installing an ICS rom erase, if anything? I will make backups of course, but I'm just wondering what to expect. Will the 'bloatware' apps still be there or will installing ICS install new system apps?
3) What market apps should I consider 'must haves' to tweak stuff? I already bought setcpu but haven't invested in anything else yet.
4) I plan to follow section 4 of droidstyle's guide but need clarification... even though I have rooted stock 2.3, I should still follow all steps right?
Thank you for listening to my noob questions and thanks to anyone who can offer advice. I have been building and working on computers for years but this cell phone hacking stuff is all new to me (obviously).

1) M5 is newest. Get glitched build off of the exynos server.
2) Complete wipe. A desktop equivalent would be formatting your hard drive with Windows Vista installed and doing a fresh install of windows 7.
Backup all data and contacts locally or on the cloud. Do NOT use Verizon to backup your contact data. Use Google or a local backup instead.
No bloatware will be present since custom roms do not come from the carrier.
3) NSTools. Maybe Root Explorer or wi-fi tether for google
4) Just follow the guide. Rooting doesn't have much to do with recovery and intalling ics and such.
Not to knock ICS, because I love AOKP, but you could also consider working your way there over time. I had a lot of fun playing with different Touchwiz ROMs like SC3 and TSM Res. You may even find one along the way that you want to stick with for a while. At the very least, you'll learn to get where a complete data wipe doesn't even slow you down.
There's so much good stuff still available for this phone. My phone is sheer perfections right now, but I still have plans to try out GeeWiz and MIUI.
Everyone knows the current destination is Glitched AOKP, but the fun is in the journey.
I agree. I would download everything rom, kernel, and app you can find for the phone between here and rootzwiki, just in case links go dead. Tsm res and awesome sauce are two very good roms that I had a ton of fun with. They are more forgiving to the new user as far as making mistakes goes. Couple of things to know before you continue are that you can use the three finger method to get into recovery on touchwiz roms but not the ics roms(must enter recovery through power off menu). You also cant just flash back and forth from touchwiz roms and cm7 or ics roms, as you have to follow certain steps
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Well I was planning on jumping right into ICS as it looks amazing and I don't think I want to wait... however I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of trying different roms later on down the road. Is it going to be a pain to go backwards from ICS, or just flash like usual? Also, to those that have tried most of the 'good' roms, what would you consider your top 3 non-ICS?
Also on the subject of backing up my apps... I have been using Mybackup as it seems the most simplistic to use and reliable. Will my apps be exactly as they were when I backed them up (after switching to ICS) or is it just better to re-download what I need and configure them again?
I hate to spam some more questions but I figure since I already am... just a few more...
I haven't really messed with Setcpu that much, but is it bad to have it at 100/1000 or should I keep the max lower than that? And last one... what's the best wifi tether to use so Verizon won't send their goons after me? Is the USB tether from clockwork mod any good?
Thanks to all of you for your input. I think I'll be attempting to flash to ICS tomorrow night and hopefully all goes well.
You can go from touchwiz roms to isc roms by flashing but you need to do a lot more using the computer to go backwards. It will make more sense once you have a better understanding. Use titanium backup to backup your apps. If you really dont have any then just redownload them. If you are on the touchwiz roms you can use setcpu, but for ics roms you are going to be using an app called nstools or from control (built into settings section of rom). Again, more of this will make sense later down the road that is why I figured it would be better to start on a from like tsm Res or awesome sauslce

Well I'm still on the fence here on what to do. I really want to run ICS but with all the little glitches I've read about I think maybe I'll try some of the better GB roms first... I think TSM Res looks top for me with the features, but I might try more than just 1. I've heard not to restore data backups when going ICS... does this apply to GB roms as well? Should I also switch the radio or is what I have the same as the GB one? Thanks

That is a nightly and has a minor bug where apps on SD card force close. No biggie for more experienced users who know its a nightly and can deal. Nightlies are bleeding edge releases and as such can contain a bug or two. Milestones are stable releases to be used as a reliable daily driver if one is needed (some do). I recommend the m5 release since it is a milestone and you are new to this. I also want to see you have the best experience possible.

I'm in a similar spot. I put CM7 on my wife's phone a while ago, but she has downloaded so much crap on it it's running like garbage and crashing.
Does the AOKP M5 have any bugs I should be aware of? As long as it's working well and everything is working (WiFi, Camera, MMS, etc), she'll be fine with it as a daily driver.
Two other questions I have.
Where can I get the correct glitchy Kernel?
Do I just need to download the ROM and kernel, wipe data/cache, then flash the ROM then kernel, then gapps (in that order) in Clockwork Recovery? Anything else?
She really likes the ICS stuff I've been showing her on my Rezound, especially the speech to text typing.
Thanks for your feedback.

Should I update radios as well? (Assuming yes since going to AOKP from CM7). Which ones should I do? Again, is this a simple flash in CWR? What's the install sequence?
Thanks.

Get the Milestone 5 Glitched build found HERE
It includes the Glitch kernel, so no need to flash separately, and also has a few extra cherry picks thrown in. This is a Milestone build, so no real bugs, should run smooth as silk.
I'm not sure of the recommended radio for fascinate on ICS.

QFT.
Get the Glitched build as it has fixes, extra available RAM, and much more not available in the AOKP official build.
Wifi, cam, and MMS all work fine. I can't honestly think of anything not working off the top of my head. NovaLauncher (Regular is free, Prime is $4 and well worth it for gestures) is recommended at this point since Apex has gotten a little slow.
Radio is recommended to be EH03 though I think ec09 and anything newer than eh03 work fine. I am running EH03 and no complaints.
I think I remember reading something about torch not working in ICS... is that the type of app that turns on the LED? Believe it or not I use that a lot and it would be a pain if it didn't work when I switch.
Also, is there any way to check what radio you're currently using before flashing? Tried looking that up but couldn't find it
Ah yes...torch doesn't work but you can use the tiny flashlight app to turn on the flash and achieve the same functionality.

The Tiny Flashlight + LED app? That's actually what I'm using now and if that works then I'm all set... I thought when people said 'torch' they just meant any app that turns on the LED
I flashed and ran into 1 problem. I had to flash Team Hacksungs Build 2 ROM first. Flashing glitched put me in an endless boot. Then I couldn't boot to recovery. I really was flipping out.
I had to Odin a new recovery in, wipe, then flash Team Hacksungs Build 2 ROM. For some reason, it booted into AOKP (?) then. I went back to recovery, wiped, reflashed AOKP and got it working.
I haven't searched yet, but anyone know where I can change the boot screen? It's really not a "wife friendly" boot screen.
As I understand it, torch refers to the built in flashlight feature in aokp called torch. Tiny flashlight plus the widget give similar functionality.

[Q] cm9, cm7 or stock?

put cm9 on nook tablets, all of the sudden both went into boot loop, don't know to get out. Someone said that the "ROM has a time limit" & suggested "mod delete"...what's that & how...
Was going to give 1 nook tablet to a nun who'll leave for Ghana soon, but this happened...
2 questions:
1. should I leave it in stock mode...this nun does not know how to fix it...besides, she'll be in Ghana...don't know if she'll have access to internet.
2. if not, which version of cm...cm7 or cm9 should I put it on for her... reason for rooting & putting cm7 or cm9 is so I can utilize most if not all of 16gb of the nook tablet...since I heard that BN only allows 1gb of storage...
Thank you & God bless

Don't go with CM9. It is really not for production yet. Also CM9 has a timer and will stop working every month or so and you have to download and install the next version. I am running the SD version of CM7 and it works well. I have heard the internal is also stable.
B&N will reformat your partitions if you are stock so you get more storage. Probably the best route if the tablets will only be used as readers. Then, maybe the simple touch was a better choice. Way longer battery life. If any hope of internet the CM7 will give a better tablet experience.
You also can add an SD card for additional storage and the sd card can be swapped around and one can be preloaded and mailed..

This is bad advice in my opinion. CM9 is plenty stable enough, its more a question of whether the missing features will affect a given user and this will vary from user to user. Honestly, I think anyone who is flashing roms should at least check it out.

Why does it expire? I rooted the HP Touchpad for my brother & I don't think it has same problem...or at least he hasn't complained to me...
so why is there an expiration for the Nook Tablet? & is there a way of fixing it?

Completely different developers. CM9 is open source so people can use the code to adapt it for other devices. The developers for the nook have decided to make it expire. Its still a rom in development though so anyone using it is likely checking the forums pretty regularly. Its not exactly difficult to reflash the rom once a month.
Also, just to nitpick a bit, you didn't root the touchpad as its not a Linux based device. You likely pushed the custom bootloader moboot and then pushed the custom version of android, cm9, allowing it to have dual boot setup.

correct...well she's officially leaving tomorrow, so i only have today to do dual boot from sd so if things go wrong she can just take it out...

Go to the general thread thread 1059 is a link for CM7 internal. Has been fine for me and it has deep sleep and the wifi doesn't appear to die. Stay away from CM9 in your case. Rooted stock would also be acceptable.
Bill

[Q] Stay stock or install a Rom?

I'm sorry to ask this but actually it's hard for me to see what I'm gonna gain by installing a custom ROM.
I'm saying this, being the owner of two android mobiles, fully rooted and with different ROM's in it.
I'm also one of the unfortunately who bought the 8gb version, which is harder and have few options for a non-stock ROM. I'm rooted, but seeing how faulty some ROM's look to me, I'm still worried that moving to a custom ROM will only give me problems instead of resolving stuff I don't like in the stock. But then, I look at the 16gb version and there isn't more abundance in options, maybe some things are just easier.
So please, tell me that I'm wrong, that going for CM9 is no worst that staying with the stock and so on that I'll find the light.
Cheers
Well I'd have to say I am enjoying CM9 much more than the stock ROM. If you still aren't sure, I would just make a bootable SD card with CM7 or CM9 and try that out for a while. That way you still have your stock ROM untouched internally.
I second the SD cm7 option. I did that for a while. Soon discovered I wasn't using the stock so I experimented with all the ROMs available. I liked the cm9 that crashed as it had the location by wifi working. Cm7 SD does as well. Since a couple of weeks I am running the April 24 build got cm7 internal. When cm9 is stable I will switch.
Bill
Definitely a good idea using the SD card idea to check it out. That's what i ended up doing and now I'm running CM9 internal (the most recent 2.x. kernel one). It's marked as an alpha but it's still really good. From what i've seen on the forum, they are still working on some major fixes on the 3.x kernel.
I am similar in that i have the DroidX and have tried out most of the major custom roms over the last 2 years.
I ended up trying out CM7 on an SD for about 2 days. Then loaded up CM9 internally and haven't used stock or cm7 since. I find ICS to be a much nicer tablet OS.
But my use of the Nook may be diff than yours. So check out the SD versions and decide if u can live with the issues each may have.
Sent from my NookTablet using Tapatalk 2
I tried for a while the CM7 on SD. Maybe it was the SD, but the experience was very laggy, not smoth at all...
Since I'm with the 8GB version I can only install the CM9 internally, but I'm not sure after reading the thread if by doing it in the 8GB I can revert back to stock easily. And this is my main fear, that I'm jumping into an unstable thing and then I can't go back. So if there is some stupidity in this remark please let me know.
On another point I see people eagerly to move to the new google tablet and this is sad, because only with a lot of people we can get ROM's and developers. If that would happen and if we could install a custom and stable CM rom this whole idea of mass migration from one tablet to the other would be halted.
A small question: video playback in the CM9? Is it any good? I do travel a lot and use the tablet to check some movies.
If we can revert to stock after installing the CM9 on the 8GB I'll definitely try this weekend.
Cheers
I'm in the same boat. I rooted my SGS2, but I haven't seen any real big reason root my NT. I got it just before Christmas and have been fairly happy with they way it runs stock.
Something that runs a better browser would be my biggest issue at this point in time, but other than that...
I suppose it just depends on how you use it.
I have the 16gb version, but I had to install it internally also. Here's what i did: got root on stock, did a nandroid backup to my SD card, then installed cmw9 internally. I figured since I have the back up I would be able to restore back to my rooted stock.
But, like you say, it may be diff for the 8gb model.
As far as video is concerned, yes cm9 may be an issue for you. Video acceleration is a problem. In YouTube, you need to turn off HQ to be able to watch the videos. I don't watch any movies on it, but i would think it would be an issue. I'm pretty sure this is something they are working on for the next version. But cm7 plays videos fine, i believe.

The SD CM7 plays HD YouTube flawlessly. But you don't have equivalent quality for Netflix or Hulu Plus (which requires a sideloaded apk) compared to stock.
Since getting a Galaxy Nexus I've actually had less need for CM7 myself, particularly since some key apps like Dolphin, Twitter and Flipboard are on the Nook App Market. But it depends on your own usage.

Check out @succulent's thread in the Development sub forum about dual booting SD cards. I believe there are even step by step instructions on his blog, which is linked in that thread.

More of his great work is in my post on page 3 . CM7.2, CM10, CM10.1 (4.2.1), and CM10.1 (4.2.2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148878&page=3
Looks great. Especially tablet modes and all the customizability.
Ik right and this is just his first port for it. Imagine what the updates will be like. (If there be any)
Anyone tested it? Is it more stable then AOSP and CM 10.1? What kernel does it run?
AOSPA is a nice little move from the occasional CM and AOSP. And don't get hopes up yet, it's still on 3.0.63

After testing it for a few days, I can tell you some of the problems I came across. When rotating between landscape and potrait I experience a little screen lag but nothing serious. Everything else seems to work perfect even the pie style bar and dpi settings in settings.
Edit: Oh, forgot to say that I dont think 10 touch work. I have the firmware installed but it only see's up to 4 fingers.
This doesn't work with the 8gb nook, it just shows a blank screen after the cyanogenmod boot so therefore I don't think it's compatible with 8gb nook and I would appreciate and others too would appreciate if they had instructions on here or compatibility with certain devices so users know what they are downloading.

Thankz for sharing this. I have the 16gb version and works great. I didn't know the 8gb and 16gb was so different besides the ram and memory.
how can I boot it from SD? My nt is cwm-looped and it doesn't boot any system until now. I would to try using this one from SD. Any idea?

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36685310&postcount=1, but in steps 4 &5 use PA ROM and Gapps files with "-SDC.zip" suffix from http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/paranoidandroid-aospa-3-jb-4-2-2-for-nook-tablet-0214/.
Has any one else had troubles backing up the ROM in cwm. I get an error for the boot image when i try.

I've been using it for about a day at home and it works great so far. I am able to stream youtube directly to my smart tv and hbo go works great on the tablet. havent tried netflix yet. play store works too, loving jelly bean so far.
however, the rotation bug (it shows deformed graphics for a second, then rotates the screen) is really annoying. it kinda kills the fluidness of the OS for me. I am gonna try CM10 i think before i decide what works best. I really wish he fixed the screen orientation switching bug. I'd donate if it led to such a fix.

Ikr. If it wasn't for that rotation bug, I would me all over it.
One thing I have noticed. The graphics are more clearer and better on this Rom than the others.

what others have you tried? i have to admit i have just dusted off my NT after a year or so of neglect. I only put the PA3 on it so far, was gonna try to flash SGT7+CM10.1 tonight, should i bother? is there any ROM you recommend?
I do love the clarity of the images when using PA3 (i have no idea if they will differ on others).

Yes. I have experienced the exact same issue with the newest CWM 6.xxx and TWRP recovery. No idea why though.

This Paranoid Android 2.99+. Everything seems the same except for PIE is not in.

HDMI out doesn't work in JB 4.2.2 Roms

I have a XT912 on JB OTA 4.2.1 stock. Droid is rooted, anytime I use a JB 4.2.2 Rom (Avatar or Liquid Smooth) the micro HDMI no longer works. It works perfect in any 4.2.1 ROM. Any suggestions or any 4.2.2 ROMs that HDMI works in would be very much appreciated!! Switching ROMs gets annoying and 4.2.1 sucks compared to 4.2.2. Please Help!!
Nothing for now. devs are working on it.

You meant JB OTA 4.1.2 stock, RIGHT?
btw, the dev still working on it. be patient
our bad ass developers will get there soon patience.... we're lucky they have not moved on yet and abandoned us
Has there been any updates on this? I've been searching for months and it looks like everytime someone ask they get the same answer that the devs are still working on a fix. Seems like for months more and more custom roms are coming out and now some beta 4.3 roms for this device are out there but the HDMI out function seems to have been forgotten or even barely mentioned in recent threads. Have the devs given up on this feature or have we hit a dead end and not going to get it working again? I would love to have this feature back! Anyone else?
When a new android version rolls out, the devs are more focused on porting it to the devices. Reason being it incorporates many new security and other features.
Its just about the priorities. HDMI comes after there is a sufficiently stable build for current system.

Thanks for the info and I understand the priorities. They have made some stable CM ROMs already I wish there was a topic where we can see the timeframe for this. Cause if we search around it really does seems like an abandoned feature. Will wait and see and hope it comes out soon.

i'm trying to post this more so people can see, or if someone wants something from my phone for debugging
I'm running liquid smooth 2.4 d2att (4.2.2) and I've got HDMI working after recovering from a soft brick. I think installing the "stock kernel" fixed it for me but my kernel Info still shows as lean kernel 3.4 which came with the ROM.
This is what I did first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2314841
Obviously I wasn't reading nor did I understand what I was doing but I installed this
http://d-h.st/KhR
Which is clearly not meant for my d2att so I got the brick.
Did the SD card did trick on my 32gb SD card (my phones only 16gb and lol in that forum claimed you had to match SD size with internal storage for it to work, but it worked first try for me.)
I had to reflash the updated boot loader with Odin to fix the brick and then I was back to installing random stuff to fix hdmi
This is the "stock kernel" that got my HDMI working... Im still not sure this is a kernel or what happens when you install it over a different kernel but HDMI worked after installing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1992483
I did a backup post brick and I'm not sure if I should tempt fate by trying out a different ROM with hopes I can get HDMI on them. Its sad but I'm not sure why no one cares to fix hdmi

Last update was from Hashcode working on a new Kexec kernel which was supposed to fix HDMI and 1080p video recording but we have no news on that since October 25 (see for yourself plus.google.com/111109372727398356624/posts/VkjpW9Nk9Qe).
Since he might be the only one dealing with fixing these issues at the moment, the only thing we should do for now is wait and support him in anyway we can.
Anyway, click Thanks if I helped you

Hashcode has dropped the support for OMAP devices, including kexec.
Dtrail1 , and a few devs are working on it now.
