Hello Im interested in the Ubuntu for tablets and I know there's a preview out for it. In thought there's bound to be others interested as well and I had some questions. So I made this thread so we can discuss it and if anyone else has questions they can ask them here as well or if they have anything to say about it.

So I was going to install the preview just to get a look at it but i wanted to ask if anyone else here has tried it and then restored a backup to get back to android. I saw in the install instructions that restoring a backup might not work. So will a tarp backup be enough to get back after installing Ubuntu on here?

Hey everyone so I just read here... http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/09/att-samsung-galaxy-note-ics/...that Samsung is FINALLY rolling out the official ICS update. My NOTE however is running a custom DaGr8's AOKP ICS ROM...I'm a noob, can anyone tell me if I need to roll back to the bloated-stock ATT Gingerbread? And if yes, HOW??? Many thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:
Can't help with your query (because I suck) ...I'm sure someone smarter than me (who doesn't)suck) will have the answer you seek..

How long do you think it would take for the release tomorrow to become rooted? Im using T-Mobile, would 4g still work if I switched or do I have to wait for root?

How would you go about backing up and restoring contacts and texts/mms? Titanium backup shows the contacts and what not but it also says 2.3.6 at the end. I feel like restoring this 2.3.6 onto 4.0.4 might not work.
Also, I'm aware you shouldn't lose anything in the upgrade process but I want to factory reset and erase absolutely everything prior to this upgrade. I run a stock rooted ROM.

but thats just me
it might work, but might have problems
Yea that's what I'm saying. So is there another method to backup restore texts? I see a method to put them on the SIM but you can only do them individually.

Why don't you just install SMS backup from the market...that's what I use.

I managed to soft brick my note and I can't seem to get any custom ROMs to boot past the boot animation, and returning to stock just bootloops. If anyone can provide me with their backup of CM9, that'd be great. I just need the boot.img, cache, data, nandroid, recovery, and system files. You don't even need to give me the clockworkmod folder, backup folder, or the folder for the actual backup! (Make sure there's no private information on the backup, mmkay?) Preferably, it would be made in CWM after flashing CM9 quincyatt RC2 and the 4.29.12 Google Apps.
If this won't cause too much trouble, I hope you people can provide a backup. I managed to wipe all of mine out (bad luck!).
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: If it helps anyone, I have an AT&T Note.

Thanks! It's an incomplete backup, but I can splice it with some of the backups I have on my computer and write it to an SD card.

Yes, I have. I get a bootloop when I try to Odin back to stock. I found an old recovery I made from the OEM stuff, so I'm just going to flash that and start over. Case closed, I suppose.
Anyone know how to get rid of the annoying message that comes on whenever I enable GPS? Its so annoying to have to see that every time I turn it on. Also, I am currently rooted running the stock 4.1.1 I believe; whatever release came with the Note 2 and I am looking for a decent ROM. I dont have alot of experience and dont wanna mess up my phone.

Basically its backup all your apps and data from apps u downloaded, like facebook,twitter,etc.. the user apps, system apps, the ones that come with the rom dont ever restore causes problems rom to rom.. after u put the rom on your ext sd card..twrp, go to wipe proced to wipe data factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, install from storage the rom, flash that, then reboot... I personally purchased an app called go backup for all my backups and restore.. it only let's up backup your user apps not system apps so u can't screw up your restore, what I do is backup with go, then flash my new rom, after the new rom is up and running re downldownload go from market and restore from there, all apps are saved dont even have to log into anything again...

Search for creepyncrawly username, read all his signature links and you're good to go.

You will need to read and learn before you act. This phone is configured differently than what you are accustomed to, judging from your statement above. You won't install recovery separately on this phone, since it is built into the kernel, for instance. Most roms have flashing instructions in the OP.
Ok. Im rooted... I unlcoked it for Tmobile. and its now on 2.3.4. When i go to recovery it juts says android recovery. Im not sure if its Clockwork mod, because i havent used clockwork since the days of the Moto backflip. SO how would i go about getting Clockworkmod and then installing Slimbean.

The clear answer has already been given to you. Search for username creepyncrawly, read all the threads linked in his signature. You need to be patient, read and research for several days before attempting to flash anything. It was reckless and foolish to root before doing so.

Hey so quick little question. I just flashed a rom. But I decided to flash to backup back to stock because I think we get 4.4.2 tomorrow. I'm rooted. I have it all. Android system is to blame. And a few other things. Does anyone have any suggestions to help?
correction : the phone seems to fine now.

You won't be able to take any updates until you flash a stock recovery on the phone... just letting you know so you don't screw up and try to take OTA with custom recovery.
