Hello to all,
Two days ago I went online to search successful methods for rooting my L9-P769. After downloading, installing file, backup through stock app, installing root checker plus, and Superuser I was now on a rooted device. This of course was something done with minimal effort through ICS, but now a risky, and tedious endeavor with JB. One of my first tasks was to delete the shabby, awful stock messaging app and go forth happily w/ Chomp SMS. Sadly, I have not received any sms or mms since the stock app was deleted. I have since cleared cache, data, restart, a bit of tweaking to my mobile networks (something I havent any previous experience doing), all of which have done nothing to resolve my issue. I also used Superuser to unroot my phone. Could it be that deleting the stock messaging app, and all of its data/settings has left my device unable to receive sms or mms? Unfortunately, I cant find the link to the root file or the youtube video on which the instructions were given. Any suggestions or advice is enormously appreciated! Anything really to save me from having to go to TMobile Level 2 Tech Support
Cheers

LOL. Just so you know, uninstalling the stock Messaging/Phone/Contacts app will disable using those functions. When you use "ChompSMS/invi/Textra/etc." they send the message THROUGH the stock messaging app, they just display everything on THEIR app. So with no app to send/receive from, you're dead in messaging
Now, Either somebody can provide you with the .apk/odex files, or you can flash the KDZ using cmahendra's guide found in the General section. You can't miss it (;
Try flashing the firmware again

If you don't know how to do offline flash, please read about it in general forum. It's a sticky thread. And if you found that it hard for beginner, you should use LG mobile support tool to recover your phone. Boot your phone to s/w update mode and recover it.

This is in the complete wrong section but I'm going to help you anyway.
Download my File Mms.apk, place it on your Sdcard.
Remove HTC Messaging app via ADB or file explorer
Push Mms.apk to /system/app via ADB or file explorer
Then go to sdcard and INSTALL the Mms.apk
Reboot Phone
I'm not sure if pushing it is necessary before installation, but it's what always works me for. Remember this will remove your HTC Messaging app so back it up first, and if you want it back just follow these instructions except with the different apps.
Lemme know this works!
Thank you very much! The push then install was what I was missing!
Sorry for posting in the wrong part of the forum, won't happen again.

Aren't there problems with MMS not actually sending when using the stock app? I'd love to use it, but I remember reading about these issues

When I send it from the gallery it crashes, but I reopen it and it sends.
Shrug?
But yes, I actually removed the htc app and dropped in the stock one with root explorer, did a fix permissions, rebooted, then installed. All my messages were there, didn't need to restore them, and it worked like a champ.
MMS is acting flaky I got it to send once and now nothing. Going to try the AOSP Gallery and see if that fixes it.
Okay, install 3dGallery, and start a text message in Messages, hit menu, go to attach, picture, select gallery, select the picture and then it will send.
At least so far that seems to work.
Not quite the out of the box AOSP experience, but getting closer.
Thanks for all the help everyone!

I am currently running Bionix V 1.3.1 for the longest time…I think about 6 months. I love this ROM and don’t want to switch for a variety of reasons…mainly lack of time due to work, I like the rom and have themed it according to my taste etc etc. The only problem I have is that the email app doesn’t work. It was working fine until I flashed galaxy tablet email from ‘SGS Tools’ app. Since that day, my email exchange has stopped working and always forecloses upon phone reboot and also everytime I try to open it. Is there a way I could get the email app to work because I really absolutely positively need it for work. Switching to another ROM is currently not an option. Also reflashing the same Rom is not an option.
Please please someone tell me how to fix this.
Thanks.
I had a similar problem on a different ROM. I fixed it by installing an old backup of a previous version of the email APK from Titanium Backup. Hopefully you have an old backup.

HELP!
I rooted my Galaxy S3, which worked flawlessly! Unfortunately, I used Titanium Backup to restore data and now I have an issue. It says, "Unfortunately, messaging has stopped." and I can't get to my SMS!
I use GoSMS Pro and I can SEE them, I just can't read/respond. If I click on one of the contacts, it opens a blank window. In Messaging, it just crashes non-stop.
Do you think I just need to reinstall the MMS app?
Thanks!!!!
Uninstall the titanium backup of the app and reinstall it WITHOUT data or from the market.
Yes, you won't have your saved messages, but you will have a working app.

If you just restored data and not app using Titanium Backup, have you tried going to Application Manager under Settings and find the Messaging app click on "clear data" and "force stop" to restart the app? Maybe the fixes your problem.

Hey everyone!
Thanks for the replies... I ended up using the stock ROM posted recently to reset it. Then, using Titanium Backup to restore ONLY the important stuff--not the [SMS/MMS/****] database that kept crashing things. I went back to my Galaxy S2 and used SMS Backup and Restore instead to push/pull in my 20,000 text messages to the new phone. I lost the MMS, but if they were funny/important, I saved them as pics anyway :-D
I assumed going from ICS on my T989 to ICS on my T999, it would be the same, but no. However, now, I have a great phone with my pertinent data and it's working GREAT!
Also in the development section is how to root it. I used the post from the Sprint Galaxy S3.
Thanks again!

I did that, btw. That worked for a LogProvider issue I was having, but would NOT work for any type of SMS issue. Unfortunately, the phone is so new to the US market, there isn't much support. I decided instead to just flash it again and find a different way to get my SMS onto the phone.
I also had the "messaging stopped" error and the only way I could fix it was to reset to factory defaults. I tried clearing data from the messaging app and reinstalling the rooted odin image, but neither of those things fixed the problem. Be careful though, a factory reset will wipe the internal sdcard. It did not wipe my external. The factory reset also cured the problem of Windows not being able to load the MTP driver.
I suspect it had something to do with restoring some system settings with Titanium. I thought I'd only done a few safe ones, but perhaps not. This time I'll be sure and only restore my system wifi settings. If it had been due to debloating, then I would think reinstalling the full image would have fixed the problem.
could someone help me solve the problem of messaging not working
when i try to read a message in messaging, unfortunately messaging has stopped shows up and the app crashes. i have tried clearing cache and delvik cache and rebooting, backing up using cwm recovery and restoring, clearing cache and data and force stopping it, but nothing seems to be working.

Same problem here. I've also reflashed the ROM after wiping everything and nothing seems to fix this. I tried out "AirDroid" from the market last night, and since then SMS has been down. AirDroid lets you send SMS from your phone using a web interface on your desktop, so I'm assuming that's what broke it. But, from what I know, wiping/reflashing should fix things...
I just realized recently as in minutes ago, that my AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G has been compromised. I didn't know where else to turn, if i'm at the wrong site then show me which one can help. Just please help me with this, in some way. I'm absolutely desperate....

one thing I know for sure is that I have a large quantity of texts that I haven't sent. I've tried to get some legitimate logs but I keep having.difficulty. As for wiping my storage has been stuck as majority USB Mass Storage and I can't mount my external SD. I ran Dr. Web which didn't find anything except that my phone was rooted.
oh and for a split second when I opened GOsms to respond to a text I saw a whole bunch of animated emoticons floating around on the GOsms inbox screen. don't know if that means anything, but it freaked me out because I didn't intend for it to occur. and a large quantity of permissions and disk writing happened last night when I discovered this issue. Does Meta-INF mean anything?

As this is a messaging issue and go SMS is the app your using it is common sense to remove that first to test it out. Had many odd issues when i hhad used it and even brought it up in the apps thread with no good reply even though many had privacy concerns

Ohhh okay, I see what you mean now. Well I just did a complete wipe and reformat of all my phone storage, and external SD. So if I have another problem I'm gonna lose it. I used the Infuse Toolkit to do all this and used the failsafe ROM to ensure stock while maintaining root. Is there any error in all that I did? If not I'll just go ahead and do a Heimdall return to stock, then root process. Thank you all for the input though

I updated my l9 to the official Indian jelly bean few days back and since then youtube app fails to play any videos over wifi. Wifi and internet otherwise works perfectly fine on the device. Even in the youtube app I can search, look up videos within my subscriptions fine , just can't play anything over wifi. I get the error - "problem while playing touch to retry". Works fine over 3G though.
I have rebooted the phone and wifi modem/router multiple times which didn't help. I also uninstalled all the updates for the youtube app still no help. Reinstalled the youtube updates still same problem
Has anyone else faced similar problem since updating to jelly bean?

I haven't rooted my phone yet. The only reason I am reluctant to contact lg service center because I think they may not consider this as a phone/device problem. But I will try that eventually.
I feel if I could reinstall the youtube app it might help but then I'm not rooted and this app came pre-installed.
is there a way to remove pre-installed apps without rooting?

As I always say, XDA is not for lion-hearted people. Others should not even come here. I am not rough and tough user and take good care of my phone, therefore I dont care about LG's warranty and thats because I am here on XDA.
Even if anything happens to my phone in future, I will take it as bad-luck, but till then my phone will live life to the fullest.
You can update YT, if it shows Update button. Otherwise No, if not rooted.

However, for me YouTube works on ICS and CM10.1. But ICS is too old for me so I'm forced to be on 20A. Roms from other regions don't work too. So hopefully LG will release an update soon or CM gets stable.

youtube is working again over wifi on my p765. I have been using the default router+modem(huwaei) provided by my ISP for last 7 years. Since it was an old model (54mbps, only b/g) I was planning to get a new one and finally I bought and configured the d-link 2750U and youtube started working again.
I still can't figure out what exactly made the difference because the old router was working perfectly fine all these years with various devices including my p765 before the jb update.
Anyways, alls well that ends well
